(Short/Extra) Phonetics and Falling Fiascos
A/N- As requested, the Lakshman Falling Scene from 'The Fire Which Outroars the Thunder'.
Lakshman didn't think too much of walking in the hallway on his own. Shatru was always the clumsy one, and Maa always held his chubby hand as they made their way down the hallway. But Lakshman, he liked to think that he was independent enough. Never clumsy, to be sure.
He began to toddle lazily down the hallway, where he could hear Papa's heavy laughter as he played, presumably, with Bharat bhaiyya. Lakshman wasn't looking for Bharat bhaiyya though. He hadn't seen his Ram bhaiyya anywhere today! Surely he was with Shatrughan, that rascal. Or maybe, maybe he was in trouble! This made Lakshman walk faster.
Quickly, quickly, quickly, his tiny feet moved. They moved so quickly that Lakshman felt like he was flying. Flying? So be it! He had to show Ram bhaiyya! He flew down this hallway and that, looking for Ram all the way. He wanted to show Ram bhaiyya his flying skills! And wouldn't he be proud of that?
Lakshman didn't notice the toy that Shatrughan had thrown in the middle of his hallway. Lakshman moved so fast that his toes caught on the golden rattle. But still, he continued to move, and like a graceful rainbow, he toppled over with an oof.
The world moved around him, swirling around his tiny body like a cyclone, and Lakshman stumbled to the ground, his arms flailing in a desperate attempt to catch himself. Finally, they touched solid ground instead of the cool air, but the moment he hit the carpet, something else registered.
Pain.
It blossomed, from its origin spot on his knee up to his leg. Faintly, Lakshman noticed a stinging sensation on his elbows as well, but those didn't matter. With short gasps, he sat up, and found that his knee couldn't move without the feeling of the bone being pulled out of his body.
Lakshman stared at his leg, and his large red knee stared back at him. He hadn't cried since he was a little baby, for his Ram bhaiyya no less, and though he could feel tears collecting at the edges of his eyes, he blinked them away, running a hand under his nose.
Maa Sumitra and Papa had tried to teach him how to speak, but Lakshman had never quite picked up the sounds, instead choosing to sit and watch them make funny noises with their mouths.
But the hallway was empty-completely empty-and he doubted anyone would find him till the pain got a whole ton worse. In fact, it was getting worse already. Soon, it would start to hurt to the point he wouldn't even be able to move.
He wanted to call someone, he needed to call someone. Ram bhaiyya. He had to call Ram bhaiyya. But how?
Suddenly, something flashed in his brain. Maa Kaushalya calling for Ram bhaiyya. Her mouth closed, then opened in a wide 'aaa' then closed again.
Lakshman glanced around again, before clearing his throat. "AAAAH-" He stopped immediately. No, that wasn't Ram bhaiyya's name. He had to try again.
"RAAAAAAA-" Wait, no, then where was the end? Lakshman chewed on the inside of his cheek, before rubbing his face. He had to do this, or else he could NEVER walk again!
He took in a deep breath. A huff. A puff. "RAAAAAMMMMM BHAIYYYAAAAAAA!" he shouted, and immediately went into a coughing fit. There was silence across the halls, and Lakshman slumped. Great. Now he would be bedridden for the rest of his life.
That was, until he heard loud footsteps across the floor, and then Ram bhaiyya peeked around the corner, eyes widening at Lakshman half laying across the carpet. "Lakshman?" he began, before his eyes widened at the large scratch on his knee, and he ran to the younger one.
"Here, we should go to Maa Kaikeyi." he said worriedly, helping to lift Lakshman up. They stumbled down the hallway together, Ram talking to keep his younger brother distracted from the pain.
"You know, somehow, I knew it was you, because you've never talked before!" Ram cried. "And that voice was so unknown, but it said bhaiyya so surely. It could not be Bharat or Shatrughan, so-"
"Bhaiyya," came Lakshman's raspy voice. "Ram bhaiyya."
"Oh!" Ram laughed. "Are you trying to get me used to your voice? Don't worry, it's engraved in my brain now!"
"Bhaiyya," Lakshman insisted, and tugged Ram's sleeve.
"Oh. We passed Maa Kaikeyi's chambers a long time ago, didn't we? Why didn't you just say so?"
"BHAIYYA!"
"Kidding, kidding."
A/N-A little mini update short! Actually, I think Swarnu asked me for this, and actually, the first half of this had been sitting in my drafts for a long time, so I'm glad to finally publish it! I know I probably need to write some Bharat-Shatru, and the place to do so is probably here, because MttSK is just about Lakshmila, and Ram v Ravan is about to start in PoA, but a little Ram Laksh hurt no one, right?
