Ch.8
The first thing that came to Sara's senses was a foul stench. The smell was a combination of rotten egg, turd, and who-knows-what. Sara opened her eyes and noticed that she was in a room with damp walls with mold forming. She was lying on an exotic couch with red velvet covering something you would find in a luxury house, not in some dark dungeon-type place. Sara also noticed that the room contained wooden boxes and exotic large and small pieces.
Seeing the room, Sara wondered, "Where am I? How did I get here?"
Sara remembered that she was back at the reactor, but Shinra almost captured her. She managed to escape, but in the process, she fell straight down to the slums. After that, she couldn't remember, only she could vaguely recall the feeling of strong arms holding her when she fell. However, Sara knew that there was no way to survive a fall like that. So the question is, who saved her?
Suddenly a loud creaking of a door opening; Sara looked up and was shocked to see who it was.
Sara exclaimed, "L-Leslie?!"
Leslie frowned slightly and spoke coldly, "You're finally awake, I see."
Sara glared at him for saying something rude and spoke back, "I see, you're still cold-hearted as ever."
Leslie chuckled coldly and handed her a small plastic bag filled with something. Sara took the back and opened it; inside was a plastic to-go container filled with rice, vegetables, and honey sesame chicken along with a plastic water bottle.
Sara looked up at Leslie and said, "Thanks."
Leslie nodded, and Sara took the chopsticks that were in the bag then began to eat. Leslie watched her as he figured that Sara was hungry.
After a moment of silence, Leslie decided to ask, "So what were you doing at one of Don Corneo's warehouses?"
Sara almost spits out her drink and asked, "Wait, what?! I was at Don Corneo's warehouse?!"
Leslie tilted his head, looking at her, confused, "You mean, you didn't know?"
Sara shook her head. She wanted to explain to Leslie what had happened, but she realized that Leslie was not a member of Avalanche. She looked down at her food, refusing to answer.
Leslie seemed to notice and questions, "You didn't go there to steal, did you?"
Sara immediately shook her head; Leslie nodded, "Good if you did, you'd be in big trouble."
Sara sighed, "I know," She looked at him with a pleaded look, "But I swear that I just ended up there by accident. I didn't mean to be in one of Corneo's warehouses."
Leslie narrowed his yellow eyes and spoke harshly, "Be glad that I was out on an errand for the Don, and it was only me who found you. If it hadn't been for me and it was one of Don's lackeys, then you'd be done."
Sara immediately thanked him again, "I thank you again for finding me and bringing me to a safe place. Speaking of that, where exactly are we?"
Leslie replied, "You're in Corneo's hideaway."
Hearing this, Sara snapped, "You brought me to Corneo's hideout? What were you thinking, idiot?!"
Leslie snapped back, "This was the only place that I know where the Don won't find you! And where nobody else won't harm you! Since where I saw you, you were very close to Wall Market! So be glad that I brought you here!"
Sara's shoulders went down. To think of all the places where she landed and right on a site she wished she'd didn't. It had to be a warehouse belong to an infamous crime lord, Don Corneo.
There is not a single person in the slums who have never heard of Don Corneo. Just saying the name or even hearing it will turn anyone's stomach up. Don Corneo is the ruler of Wall Market, a place that's full of crime and violence. Before it was known as Wall Market, the area had many businesses for all kinds of stuff. However, it attracted a crowded full of evil intentions, which is when Don Corneo began to lay out his foundation of ruling the area. Eventually, Shinra decided to wall up the place, and so it became known as Wall Market. Everybody knows that if you went up against Don Corneo, you'd wished you never did. Whether you're an experienced fighter or not, Don Corneo always finds a way to break a person even worse if that person was a woman. There have been rumors that women end up missing if Don Corneo sees them. No one knows what happens to them, but many believe that they end up having the same fate as the victims of the Don.
Sara looked at Leslie, who seemed pissed at her and who could blame him. He risked a lot to get her to a safe place, especially that she landed near Wall Market.
Know this, Sara apologized, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you."
Leslie humphed, "You should also be aware that Mako Reactor 5 is down thanks to you and Avalanche."
Sara gasped, "Wait, you knew?!"
Leslie rolled his eyes, "It's on the news, and there were videos of you and Avalanche fighting that giant robot. Well, you were not fighting, but you were watching. I will say that there's now a bounty on your head for that. Shinra is looking for you."
Sara asked, "How do you know that Shinra is looking for us?"
Leslie clicked his tongue, "I'm not that stupid; after bombing two reactors. There's no question that Shinra is looking for you, which I take it that you escaped from them, and that's how you ended up at the warehouse."
Sara knew that there was no reason to lie, and so she nodded, "Well, you are right, but how I ended up there is a good question. I only remembered falling from the reactor, and I fell asleep while I was falling. I don't know much after that except that I felt someone was holding me."
Leslie, "I carried you here."
Sara looked at him curiously, "Was there anyone out there besides me?"
Leslie shook his head, "No, just you. However, I did notice something strange when I found you."
Sara, "Something strange?"
Leslie, "Yeah, you were surrounded by black feathers as if the fall you made took out a bunch of ravens. Yet, there were none. Don't that seem strange to you?"
Sara nodded in agreement, but she knew that it wasn't the first time seeing or waking up to see a single black feather near her. She wondered why those feathers seem to pop up whenever trouble is right around the corner.
Her thoughts snapped when Leslie started talking, "I'll be back for a bit. I need you to stay here for the moment."
Sara looked at him suspiciously and questioned, "Just what are you planning?"
Leslie replied, "Simple, I'm setting up a way for you to stay low while you're here at Wall Market. Right now, you need to give me time to prepare and follow my instructions."
After finding out that Shinra is out looking for her, it would make sense for her to stay low. Sara nodded in agreement with Leslie, and he left, leaving her alone in this stinking place.
Sara let out a deep sigh and muttered, "I sure hope Cloud and the others are doing okay."
She felt terrible that she had to leave them like that, not knowing what had happened to them. Yet, she could do nothing at the time since Shinra tried to capture her. Now that there is a high possibility that Shinra is looking for her, Sara has no choice but to rely on Leslie. Unfortunately, things may have got more complicated for her to reach her goal.
Hours later, Leslie came back and told Sara to follow him. She obeyed, and he led her out of the stinking damp room next to the sewers. After navigating through the sewers, the two walked out into an urban advancement district littered with piles of scrap, rubble, and construction material. This area was supposed to be an area for advancement between Sectors 6 and 7, but it remains untouched for years and is now a wasteland.
It was already noon since the sun was still out. Sara continued to follow Leslie, who led her right into Wall Market.
He paused and turned to her, "Put on your hood; there's no telling if any Shinra troops are out."
Sara quickly put her hood on as low as possible and continued to stay close to Leslie. They walked right into Wall Market. The area had many buildings and tents, taking inspiration from various architectural styles from exotic Asia to Old Western style. Surprisingly enough, Wall Market seemed to be in better shape, maintained, and very decorated than its fellow neighbors. However, the folks that were roaming around the market were sketchy in Sara's eyes. The men gave off that bad-boy time vibe, while the women gave off a more lustful vibe. It was a good thing that Leslie was with Sara; who knows what would've happened if Sara came out to this place alone.
As they were walking, Sara spotted a tv that sat behind a bar and stopped to look at it. The TV had the latest news. It showed a reporter standing right in front of the entrance of Mako Reactor 5 who was speaking about the situation.
Reporter, "I'm standing inside the gutted shell of Mako Reactor 5. As you can see, there's still a lot of smoke rising from the rubble."
The camera turns to the entrance of the reactor. It was showing several Shinra troopers examining the damage from the bombing. At the same time, the reporter continued his speech.
"While fallen beams and other debris continue to hinder rescue efforts, the fires appear to have been mostly extinguished." The reporter pauses and exclaims, "Ah, over there! That's the director of Shinra's Advanced Weaponry Division, isn't it?"
The camera turns away from the reporter and shows two troopers escorting a beautiful blond woman. The woman is dressed in a long red satin dress with a plunging neckline, a slit on the side, and high heels. Under her dress, she wears black thigh-high stay-up stockings. She wears dark eye makeup with large crystal earrings and wears a green pendant and ring; she has red nails.
When Sara saw the woman, she frowns in disgusted as she continued to watch the news. Sara knew that woman, her name Scarlet.
The reporter quickly asked, "Excuse me, ma'am, but would you mind answering a few questions?"
Scarlet ignored him and said coldly, "Move."
But, the reporter was not giving up and continued to ask, "Can you give us any updates on the status of the reactor? What kind of damage did it suffer in the explosion? Are we in any danger?"
Scarlet sighs annoyingly and looks at the camera, and begins speaking professionally, "Mako Reactor 5 has been temporarily shut down, and all fires have been successfully extinguished. The situation is under control, and the people of our fair city need not worry about any additional complications. We are in the process of conducting a full forensic investigation. But we suspect the device used was similar to that employed in the attack on Mako Reactor 1."
Scarlet pulls out a device and presses a button that changes the screen to video footage of Barret, Biggs, Jesse, and Wedge infiltrating the reactor. Scarlet continues speaking.
"The perpetrators of that atrocity were filmed making their escape. These agents of the eco-terrorist group Avalanche are currently believed to be in hiding somewhere in Midgar."
The reporter asks another question, "And given that this group has now attacked two reactors in quick succession. Can they really be stopped before they strike again?"
Scarlet steps forward and asks, "What do you think?"
The reporter was a bit stunned at that. Scarlet walks over to the camera and kicks the cameraman holding the camera while still showing Scarlet from an upward viewpoint.
Scarlet glared at the camera and declared, "Have no fear; Shinra will keep Midgar safe."
Scarlet walks away while a security guard comes over and shouts, "All right, times up!"
The video cuts off, and then it goes straight to another news report.
"You see, you need to lay low for a while. Now let's get going." Leslie said while walking away.
Sara nodded while she still hopes that Shinra doesn't find her at this moment.
After taking a few turns in the market streets, they stopped in front of a small building styled in Japanese-Western architecture, the building had hung lanterns up along the stone wall, and jaded pots were by the front door. A large neon sign was above the door that reads 'Massage.' Sara wondered why they were stopping at a massage parlor. Leslie was the first to go in, followed by Sara. As they walked in, the room walls were decorated with wallpaper in a flower pattern in a Japanese style and are lit by Chinese lamps and candles.
Sara notices a woman standing behind the front desk and couldn't help but admire the woman's look. Behind the desk stood a younger middle-aged woman with a slender physique. She has light skin, black hair pinned up with elaborate golden hairpins, dark brown eyes, sports purple eyeshadow, and red lipstick. She wears a black kimono with a golden flower pattern secured by a patterned orange obi tied in the front. She leaves one shoulder bare, wears a pair of black geta sandals, and carries a fan that matches her kimono.
The moment Sara and Leslie walked in, the woman frowned slightly and questioned, "Leslie, just what is that sleazeball Corneo wants with me now?"
Leslie immediately cut to the chase, "This has nothing to do with the Don."
The woman was taken back and asked, "Then what is it?"
Leslie replied, "A personal matter."
The woman turned to Sara, looking at her curiously. Then, she walks around the desk and looks at Sara while waving her fan. Sara could tell that the woman was observing her, and she didn't like it.
The woman noticed Sara's uneasiness and smiled, "Don't be afraid, my dear; I promise that I won't bite. My name is Madam M; I'm the owner of this massage parlor." Then, she turned to Leslie, "And Leslie is this personal matter has something to do with this girl?"
Leslie nodded; Madam M asked, "Then what is it you want?"
Leslie answered, "I want to know if you can put her into something that will keep her in a low profile."
Madam M raised a brow, "In what way do you mean?"
Leslie explained, "Let's say that there are some folks who are more potent than the Don who is looking for her. So she needs a disguised that can keep her under a low profile while staying with me for a bit."
Madam M covered her lower face with her fan as she looked at Sara, mischievous. Sara didn't like Leslie making her decisions, but she gritted her teeth and bit her bottom lip while holding back her impulse behavior.
Madam M, "I can most certainly help you out with that, and I know someone else who's willing to help."
Leslie nodded and turned to Sara, "Stay here with Madam M. I'll be back soon."
Before Sara could even ask anything, Leslie was already out of the door. Sara sighed in defeat and turned to Madam M with a defeated look.
Madam M smiled, "Do not worry, Leslie knows what he is doing. The man is Corneo's, right-hand man. However, like many, including myself, he despises the don. So do not worry; Leslie will do his best to make sure you are well-taking care."
Sara couldn't help but ask, "But why would he go that far just for me?"
Madam M chuckled, "You remind him of someone very dear to him. Perhaps this is his way for atonement."
Sara still didn't know what she meant as Madam M continued, "Now let's go ahead and get you a perfect disguise. I usually would dress a girl in something more extravagant. But it would be best if you had something that will fool anyone, even an idiot. I know the perfect person who will do the job. Let me give him a call, and he'll be right down."
Sara nodded and asked, "Is it okay if you give me a massage?"
Madam M smiled, "But of course, only if you pay?"
Sara, "Alright, I'll take your most expensive course."
Madam M, "That would be the Luxury Course, and it will cost you 3,000 Gil."
Sara pulled out the amount from her wallet and handed it to Madam M, who replied with a playful laugh, "Then make your way to the room in the back...and wait."
Sara obeyed and went to the back room. Inside the room was a massage table and small candles that give a sweet aroma. There was also a small table that had several types of creams and a couple of folded towels. Sara decided to unstrap her katana and set it beside the door, and lay down on the table as she waited. A few minutes later, Madame M came walking in with a smile.
Madame M, "This exclusive treatment is reserve for our most well-to-do patrons."
She pulls the curtain over, blocking the entrance of the room. Sara felt nervous as she noticed Madame M's eyes filled with delight.
Sara immediately thought It's just a hand massage, right? So why does she look at me like she's ready to torture me?!
Madame M pumped a cream of hand lotion into Sara's left hand as she spoke, "First...the hand cream...a generous coating for each and every one of your delicate deserving fingers."
Sara closed her eyes as she used her sense of touch to follow Madam M's hands. She felt the tips of her fingers feeling a prick of pain but a sweet pleasure. Somehow, Sara felt her entire body start to relax.
Madam M noticed her reaction and said, "You seem to enjoy this, am I right?"
Sara spoke softly, "Yeah, you're hitting the right spot."
Madam M, "Is this the hand you use to swing your sword?"
Sara shook her head, "No."
"I see," Madam M pauses and walks over to the other side of the table and begins to massage Sara's right hand, "Then I shall work on this one, I can tell that this hand is very intense...let's move to the base of the fingers...see if we can improve your circulation and get that blood flowing."
Sara felt her hands becoming limber while Madam M continued to massage her hand. Every touch was like someone gently pressing a rolling stone on her fingers.
Madam M, "And finally some gentle stimulation for the palm, no more than a touch. Just like this."
Sara felt Madam M's fingers gently pressing on pressure points in her hand that sent shock waves of pleasure to her spine. Sara couldn't help but let out a small moan.
Madam M smiled, "Oh? What was that? A cry of pleasure? Is this how you like it? Or maybe this?"
The more Madam M continued to press the pressure points on Sara's hands; the more Sara let out some moans till it almost sounded like she was crying out in pleasure.
After the massage, Sara got off the massage table and lifted her right hand that felt limp as a noodle.
Madam M smiled in satisfaction, "If that was to your liking, do come again."
Sara replied, "Y-yeah," She then thought, Hell no! No way am I coming back to this place!
Sara strapped her katana and made her way back to the waiting room. She felt her whole body somehow limber and sat on one of the small couches. Then, hearing the clang sounds from Madam M's geta, Sara looked up as Madam M approached her with a smile.
Madam M asked, "Think you can make it a habit?"
Sara didn't reply. There was no way she would come here for another massage. It just wasn't her style.
The door opened, and walking in is a middle-aged man with a slim and athletic physique. He has fair skin, short and shaved dark brown hair, a trimmed goatee, gray eyes, wears silk, and a flashy deep purple and gold outfit with a fluffy raised collar and polished black dress shoes. He approaches Madam M with a smile and speaks with a smooth voice.
"Madam M, you asked for my help?"
Madam M replied, "Ah, Andrea, good that you are here, and as for the matter. She is the matter."
The man named Andrea looked at Sara as Madam M makes a small introduction, "Sara, this is Andrea Rhodea, the owner and star of the Honey Bee Inn. Andrea, this is Sara, the girl I told you about and Leslie's request on what we should do to her."
Andrea walks over to Sara and looks at her closely. His grey eyes watched her as if they were looking at every detail about her. It made Sara feel uncomfortable.
Andrea took a few steps back and said, "I see; she is a fine young woman without a doubt. Yet, I see a hidden fire within her, but a sense of calmness in those eyes. I shall transform you into a vision of beauty and coolness."
Madam M raised a brow and questioned, "May I remind you that she needs to be kept in a low profile."
Andrea gave Madam M a small smile, "No problem, I understand."
Andrea took Sara by the hand and lead Sara out of the parlor. Following Andrea, Sara found herself standing in front of a building that didn't seem much outside or maybe because there was still daylight, so the signs around the entrance made the building less welcoming. But, Sara could tell of the big sign that reads The Honey Bee Inn, and above it is two cartoon-like bees. Sara imagined that at night this building, without a doubt, be flashy and attracted attention.
Andrea guide her into the building, walking into the reception area. The floors were marble in a black and white checkered pattern and a large red rug. Three large vases full of flowers seemed expensive, and a large mahogany desk with a male receptionist and standing beside the desk were two girls dressed in honeybee costumes.
As Andrea passed the reception desk, the staff made a slight bow to Andrea. Sara was still trying to figure out just how Andrea is going to help her. From what she could tell, the man seemed wildly ambitious and caring all about his appearance. Andrea led her to a dressing room with one girl dressed the same way as the girls out front. He gave the girl a few words, and her eyes widen with excitement.
Andrea turned to Sara and said, "I'll be back in a few minutes. In the meantime, Vera here will help you with specific details."
After that, Andrea left the room, leaving Sara confused. She still had no idea what they were planning to do to her. Then, finally, the girl Vera walked over to Sara with a warm smile.
"Hello! My name is Vera and Andrea has told me what you need. So let's get started."
Sara quickly asked, "Wait, just what is it that you plan to do to me?"
Vera answered in enthusiasm, "Putting you in a disguised, of course!"
Sara asked again, "What kind of disguised?"
Vera smiled, "You'll see; I promise it's not as bad as you would think. Now come on, let's hurry up before Andrea comes back."
Sara sighed in defeat and decided to go with the flow, "All right, what do you want me to do?"
Vera giggled and went over to the small closet and pulled out a tank made out of a nylon-spandex blend and cotton in a nude color. Vera hands the tank over to Sara, who looks at it curiously.
Vera instructs, "Put that over your bra."
Sara took off her shirt showing off a black racerback sports bra; she takes the nude take and puts it on over her bra. The moment Sara put on the tank, she felt a slight bit of compression on her chest. It wasn't uncomfortable; surprisingly, it was comforting and able to breathe. However, when she looked at the large mirror, she noticed that her chest was flat. Sara's jaw dropped in astonishment. Vera looked at her with excitement.
Vera commented, "Wow! The chest binder fits you perfectly!"
Now Sara finally understood what was happening. She was going to be dressed as a man!
Thinking about it made her feel a bit humiliated. Yet, Leslie was already doing a lot for her, including Madam M and Andrea. So Sara had no choice but to bite her pride and continue.
Vera decided to give her a little encouragement since she could tell Sara's unhappiness, "Hey, cheer up! It's not every day that Andrea gets to help someone."
Sara wondered, "Why is that?"
Vera explained, "Andrea rarely shows an interest in someone even extends an invitation to the Honeybee Inn. If someone wants to meet him, they have to put their name on the waiting list, which is a wait for three years."
Sara's mouth dropped, Three whole years?! Dang, he must be a popular guy.
The door opened again, and Andrea walked in carrying a bundle of clothes. He looks at Sara and nods in approval, and says, "Splendid, now try on these; they should fit you."
Sara takes the clothes, a black shirt with skulls printed all over it, a black leather jacket with a two buckle collar. Vera starts putting accessories on her, putting two silver-studded belts, one leather bracelet, a pair of leather gloves, and a leather eye patch over Sara's left eye. Vera let Sara keep her one-wing silver charm necklace. Next, Vera styles Sara's hair in a low ponytail adding some hair extensions to make it look like she has choppy bangs swooped to the left side of her face. After applying a small amount of make-up, Vera announced that she was done; Sara looked at the mirror and was shocked.
Sara thought, I barely even recognize myself.
Andrea commented, "Perfection."
Sara turned to him as he continued speaking, "Beauty and coolness can come together and create a beautiful masterpiece. You are the perfect model."
Sara nodded and said, "Thank you, Andrea. I should be getting back to Madam M's parlor."
Before she left, Andrea said, "I'll be holding on to your things. However, make sure you keep that blade sharp. This town can be dangerous if you are not careful."
Sara nodded and quickly left the Inn. She made it back to Madam M's parlor without difficulty. When she got there, Leslie was already there talking to Madam M. When Leslie noticed Sara; he couldn't believe that Sara dressed up so well that he almost didn't recognize her.
Madam M commented, "Well, Sara, if I hadn't met you before, I wouldn't know it was you. Andrea has done an outstanding job, don't you agree, Leslie?"
"Uh, yeah, he certainly did." However, Leslie was still baffled at Sara's new look.
Sara, on the other hand, crossed her arms and glared at Leslie, "Be glad that I'm not cutting you down. You owe me once this is over."
Leslie pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, "Bear with it for now. Now that we've got you set up come with me."
After saying goodbye to Madam M, Sara followed Leslie down to the main street of Wall Market. At the end of the road stood a grand building in Japanese architecture. It had a green-tiled two-tier roof, with red-painted pillars and golden accents complimenting its appearance. With a bridge in front of it, crossing a moat with several lamps lighting to the entrance, and Chinese dragon statues by the front door. The massive front door was black painted with gold accents.
Leslie stopped midway at the bridge and turned to Sara, then spoke in a severe tone, "This here is the mansion of Don Corneo. Here is when you have to secure a temporary position."
Sara's eyes widen; does this mean she must become a lackey to stay low-key?!
Sara immediately questioned, "Now hold on a minute! What makes you think that I will become Corneo's lackey? Who permitted you to do that?!"
Leslie immediately said, "Hear me out. I told the Don that there's someone that I know who is a skilled fighter and that I need a trusted assistant to take care of small matters and asked him if you could be my assistant. Corneo approved of my request, however..."
He trails off, but Sara seemed to have caught on and said, "He wants actual proof that I am an excellent fighter, right?"
Leslie nodded, "Yeah."
Sara also asked, "And by having me as your assistant, I'm less likely not to do any of Corneo's dirty work?"
Leslie, "Correct, and so you know it wasn't easy doing this."
Sara, "So what is it that I need to do at this point?"
Leslie answered, "First, you need to think of a name. You can't be called Sara. You've got to come up with a boy name. Got any names you can think of?"
Sara thought about it, and one name came to her head and replied, "Zora?"
Leslie, "Zora? Hmm, sounds fine. All right, try not to talk too much while we're inside; if you need, make your voice sound more deep or masculine. Otherwise, if you speak in your regular voice, everything we've worked hard will all be for nothing."
Sara nodded, "Got it."
Leslie faced the entrance of the mansion, "All right, let's do this."
The two walked into the mansion of Don Corneo. Inside was a small entrance room with several food stands that didn't seem they were in use. However, the area was kept clean and organized. As they continued going in, they walked to the main foyer designed in an oriental Asian aesthetic regarding ornaments and decorations and is primarily colored with bright red colors and gold engraving.
Several men who wore leather vests or jackets stood around the foyer looking at Sara suspiciously like hungry wolves, but she ignored them. Leslie walked up the grand staircase, followed by Sara, and went to the first door. Inside the room was a large office with a large desk and throne-like chair behind it. Sitting behind the desk was a middle-aged man with a short and portly build. He has fair skin, sports a thin mustache, and blond hair shaved on the sides. He has the word "Love" tattooed on the side of his head. He was wearing a red, three-quarter length coat with fur trim on the collar and cuffs, an open white pocketed-buttoned shirt, stud earrings, a medallion necklace, and several rings on his fingers. Sara could already guess who is the man sitting in front of them; Don Corneo.
Leslie politely spoke, "Don Corneo, I've brought the person who I want as my assistant."
Corneo looked up and stared at Sara with keen eyes. He formed a smile that made Sara's stomach turn as he stood up and walked over. He circled her while she remained calm as she could.
Corneo stood in front of her and spoke in a voice that wasn't pleasing to anyone's ear, "Well, you certainly have the looks of a killer. Tell me, what's your name?"
Sara replied in a deep voice that sounded somewhat masculine. Yet, it made her sound like she was eighteen than her actual age.
"Zora."
Corneo didn't seem to notice the strange sound in her voice and said, "Well, Zora, you're going to have to prove that you are as good as Leslie says you are. Ready to fight?"
Sara nodded, and Corneo led her and Leslie to another warehouse that was behind the mansion. Inside was ten men that appeared to be Corneo's lackeys armed with guns. They made a slight bow to Corneo when he walked in.
Corneo turned to Sara and opened his arms out, announcing, "If you can defeat all of these men, then your hired. If not, well, too bad, at least we'll bury your corpse somewhere. Get him, boys!"
The ten armed men started shooting at Sara. Luckily Sara knew what was going to happen, and she dodges the incoming bullets. Then, drawing her sword, she immediately wasted no time in attacking Corneo's men. She didn't even waste a breath before long; all of Corneo's lackeys were on the ground like flies moaning and groaning in pain. Corneo stood there dumbfounded.
Sara sheathed her sword and asked, "Satisfied?"
Corneo smiled and pointed to her, "You're in! You're now officially Leslie's assistant!"
Leslie, who stood near the entrance of the warehouse, immediately spoke to Corneo, "Now that you've seen what he can do. Is there anything else?"
Corneo shook his head, "Nah! Right now, we've got bigger fish to fry. Since tonight is the bride-to-be audition, so Leslie head down to the trio and see what they've found; after that, report back, then you can go on about your business."
Sara followed Leslie, who took her back to the town and went to a diner. Sara ordered a beef noodle bowl while Leslie ordered a chicken noodle bowl. The two were silent until the cook brought up their food. Then, after taking a couple of bites, Leslie broke the silence.
Leslie, "I'm glad that everything turns out well."
Even though Sara knew she managed to get Corneo's approval easy the hard part is keeping a low profile. Sara turned to Leslie and questioned, "So what do I do now?"
Leslie replied, "Now you are to pretend that you're my assistant."
Sara tilted her head, confusing, "Meaning?"
Leslie explained, "Meaning you are free to do what you want when you're not in Corneo's mansion. But when you are in the estate, act like you're my assistant and don't go poking your nose in places you shouldn't; otherwise, I may force you to punish you. I certainly don't want that."
Sara assured him, "Don't worry, I promise I won't be nosey."
Leslie, "Good."
Sara recalled something that Corneo mentioned, "Hey Leslie, what did Corneo mean about the bride-to-be audition?"
Leslie answered, "Another reason why you're my assistant. Corneo sends out his men to scout innocent women and bring them here. Then they wait to get official approval from one of the trio. Once the trio selects three girls with their permission, they go to Corneo and choose a nightly bride."
Sara could tell from Leslie's painful expression even though he spoke calmly. She knew that those girls who become Corneo's bride, their fates are never good. So Sara didn't need to ask what happens to those girls; instead, she asks a different question.
Sara, "So who is the trio?"
Leslie's expression softens and explains, "They are the only ones in town who're consider authorities on Corneo's particular tastes. You've already met two of them."
Sara's eyes widen in surprise, "You mean Andrea and Madam M?!"
Leslie nodded, "Yes, and the last one is Chocobo Sam. They also don't recommend just any girl stupid enough to come knocking."
Sara, "So getting their approval is tough, and if a girl gets one of their approval, what if another girl is selected on the same day by the same person?"
Leslie, "Then that girl will have to wait until the next audition. Once the trio has already selected three girls, they don't choose another. That's how the process works."
Sara, "I see..."
Leslie stood up and paid the bill, "Let's go. We need to meet up with Chocobo Sam and report back."
Sara nodded then followed. They went south of town outside of the entrance. There stood an old saloon-type building with a large porch with several benches on both sides of the door and hay bails—sitting on an old rocking chair, a middle-aged man with an average build. He has fair skin, short dark brown hair, a thick beard, and dark blue eyes wearing a cowboy hat, a white button shirt, a reddish-brown leather vest, a large brown belt with a golden Chocobo buckle, frayed light blue jeans, and brown patterned cowboy boots with buckles. He also has an empty holster on his hip, as well as a leather whip.
The man notices Leslie and gets up from his chair, and speaks with a voice that's sweet on the ears. It made Sara feel that she was meeting an old countryman, "Leslie, I've been waiting for you."
Leslie, "Sorry, Sam, I got hold up on a lot of things."
Sara realized that this man must be Chocobo Sam considering that he has many chocobos in his attire.
Sam, "No worries, kid, I can understand." He pauses and notices Sara, "Who's the kid?"
Sara frowned and thought, Kid?! I have you know I'm not a kid!
Leslie answered, "This is my new assistant Zora."
Sam, "I see, well on to business. I've already chosen a candidate for tonight's audition. The girl will be on her way tonight since's she's from Sector 7."
Leslie, "All right, I'll let Corneo know. See you later, Sam."
Sam tipped his hat and carried on with his business. Leslie and Sara quickly went back to the mansion and reported back to Corneo. Needless to say that the crime lord was thrilled to hear the news. Leslie showed Sara where his room was, which was a guesthouse outside of the mansion, so that she'd know where to stay for the night. That is until things have settled down. After showing Sara where she'd be staying, Leslie had his other duties to do, and that left Sara to herself. She decided to explore the town; she didn't find the place all that thrilling and disgusted with it. She saw men that smelled cigarettes and alcohol, dressed as punks or wearing flashy clothes. Then there are the women wearing skimpy or tight clothes that reeked with cheap perfume.
As Sara continued to walk down the streets, she spotted a familiar face. She quickly run-up to the person, exclaiming, "Chadley!"
Chadley, who was just passing through, heard his name called. But when he turned around, he was startled and spoke very nervously, "Yes? I don't believe we've met."
Sara knew that Chadley would say that. So she quickly grabbed his wrist and said, "Quickly follow me; I'll explain later!"
Chadley was surprised and curious at the same time. He didn't think that a man could have a woman's voice. It was fascinating to him.
Sara dragged Chadley to a narrow alley where no one would find them. She took off her eye-patch and looked at Chadley who's eyes widen with shock.
Chadley stuttered, "S-Sara?!"
Sara quickly brought her finger to her lips, "Shh! Not so loud."
Chadley understood and lowered his voice, "When I heard that Shinra failed to capture you. I was on my way to Sector 7 to find you. I'm glad that I found you, or I should say you found me. Why are you dressed like that? I found it intriguing."
Sara explained, "Well, I didn't have much of choice considering my savior pulled a lot of strings to keep in under a low profile. Sorry about dragging you into this dark and dirty alley."
Chadley smiled and shook his head, "Not at all, I understand, considering that Shinra is on the lookout for you."
Sara, "Thanks, Chadley, now did you get the information that I wanted?"
Chadley lowered his head in a defeated look. Sara could tell by that expression Chadley did not have any good news.
Chadley explained, "Unfortunately, I failed to obtain the information you want. What you are looking for is highly classified, and the only ones who can get the data are the higher-ups. I'm sorry that I was unable to fulfill your request."
Sara smiled, "It's okay, Chadley, at least I know who to go to get it."
She put her eye-patch on and was about to leave, not before she turned to Chadley, "Let's hope that I'll find the answers I'm looking for when I get what I want."
Chadley said nothing, only gave her a nod, and the two of them went on their separate ways.
Sara decided to take a good long nap at Leslie's small home. It wasn't much only had a futon, table with a single chair, a TV, a small kitchenette, and a bathroom. Unfortunately, there were no decorations in the tiny house which Sara had a feeling that Leslie wasn't the type to decorate his own space. After taking a long nap, it was already eight o'clock when she woke up. As she heads out, she stopped when she saw a familiar man walking on the bridge leading to the estate entrance accompanied by a young brunette woman wearing a pink dress.
Sara muttered in surprise, "Cloud?"
Cloud went through the door, followed by the young woman. Sara remembered seeing that woman before; it was the flower peddler that she and Cloud run into back then after the bombing of Reactor 1. Yet, why would Cloud be walking to the front door of Don Corneo's mansion?
Sara was curious to know, and she quietly walked over to one of the windows of the entrance room that was always open. She took a peek inside and could see Leslie and two of Corneo's men standing in front of the main door.
Leslie sees Cloud and immediately prevents him from going any further, "Not so fast, buddy. Back it up. Got no need for pretty boys here."
Cloud immediately spoke, "We're looking for someone."
Leslie questioned, "Lemme guess, first time in Wall Market?"
Cloud crossed his arms, "Yeah, so?"
Leslie, "So people can't just walk through the don's front door, especially men."
The flower peddler immediately asked in a cheerful tone, "How about me, then? Can I go inside?"
Leslie replied, "Maybe, but you're gonna wish you didn't."
Sara thought, Is she stupid? I mean, you're only sending yourself to the grave!
One of Corneo's men spoke, looking at the girl with interest, "Y'know, Leslie, she's kinda cute. Homely, but cute."
The flower peddler glared at him, "Excuse you?"
Leslie denied, "Kinda cute is not gonna cut it."
The flower peddler insisted, "Come on, can't you help us out?"
Leslie immediately scolded her, "Do you have any idea what you're getting yourself into?"
Cloud hissed at her, "Aerith!"
Sara, So that's her name, well now I know. But still, I agree with Leslie on this one.
The other lackey commented, "Seriously, Les, she's not half bad! With a little work, I bet she'd clean up real nice."
Aerith glared at Cloud, "Cloud requesting permission to kill."
Cloud looked away and replied, "Denied."
Leslie sighed since Aerith seemed to insist and spoke, "If you're really sure you wanna join an audition, then you're gonna need to get official approval."
Aerith asked, "And who can give us that?"
Leslie explained, "The Trio the only ones in town who're considered authorities on Corneo's particular tastes. First, there's Chocobo Sam, and then there's Madam M, over at the massage parlor. Last but not least, there's the Honeybee's Inn's Andrea Rhodea. They're an eccentric bunch, to put it mildly, and you should know they don't recommend just any girl stupid enough to come knocking.
Aerith smiled, "Duly noted, thanks for the info. We'll be back soon."
Cloud and Aerith walked back to the front door. Sara slowly moved back from the window and chased after the two. Sara knew she couldn't call out to them, afraid that her cover might be giving away. So she decided to take a different approach. Sara followed Cloud and Aerith to the south entrance of town. She walked a little ahead of them and stood at the south entrance stopping the two.
Cloud looked at her suspiciously and brought his hand to his massive sword. Sara spoke calmly, "I wouldn't do that if I were you, and don't think that Chocobo Sam is going to give you his approval when he already has."
Cloud questioned her, "What do you know?"
Sara walked over and unstrapped her katana, then presented it to him and asked, "You should know who I am by looking at this sword."
Cloud looked at the familiar sheath and the handle of the blade. Then, he looked up and was completely surprised, "S-Sara?!"
Sara hushed, "Shh! Follow me. I know of a place where we can talk privately."
Sara took them back to the same dark alley where she took Chadley. Luckily for them, no one was around.
Once they stopped, Sara immediately sighed in relief, "Finally, I can now talk normally!"
Aerith giggled, "You seem a bit stressed out."
Sara started to rant, "Are you kidding me? I had no choice to wear this getup! On top of it, I had to talk like a man, which is even harder!"
Sara realized that she must have sounded rude to Aerith and quickly said, "I'm sorry for sounding like this."
Aerith shook her head, "It's okay. I could tell that you don't like being in that outfit."
Sara sighed, "I don't think we've introduced ourselves. My name is Sara Griffin."
Aerith smiled, "I'm Aerith Gainsborough, and we've met before at the-" Sara interrupted her, "At topside, you were selling flowers."
Aerith rejoiced, "You remembered! I'm so glad!"
Sara looked at Cloud and joked, "And I'm surprised you get along with this aloof."
Cloud glared at her while Aerith giggled. Sara asked Cloud, "So how did you two met?"
Cloud explained, "Basically, I fell right on her flower bed, and she asked me to be her bodyguard after I had a scuffle with the Turks."
Sara was surprised. The Turks are a special Shinra task force often saddled with atypical assignments, such as scouting for SOLDIER recruits, escorting influential individuals, spy work, and assassination. The Turks keep to the company's ever-growing shadow, performing deeds best kept out of the public eye. So for Cloud to mention that he had to deal with a Turk, there must've been a reason unless they were sent to kill Cloud since he partakes in the bombing.
Cloud continued, "After dealing with the Turk, I escorted Aerith home, which is in Sector 5 slums, and been dealing with minor jobs over there. Once I was finished, Aerith showed me the way to Sector 7, but..."
Sara concluded what he would say, "You end up in Wall Market for an important reason, right?"
Cloud nodded, "Yeah, but before I get to that. Why are you dressed as a man?"
Sara answered, "You know that guy, Leslie."
Cloud nodded, and Sara explained briefly, "Long story short, he was the one who found me lying in one of the warehouses of Don Corneo's. How I manage to get there? Is a different story; anyways, Leslie helped me out by dressing me as a man, and I'm also Leslie's assistant, not that he needs one."
Aerith asked, "So does that mean you can get into Don Corneo's home anytime you want?"
Sara, "Yeah, but I'd instead not go to that place. But why would you need to get into Don Corneo's mansion?"
Cloud answered, "Tifa's in there; she's was transported from Sector 7 to here."
She recalled what Chocobo Sam said before in the evening. Sara pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed, "So she's the one Chocobo Sam mentioned. Damn it!"
Cloud asked, "Can you find out if Tifa is okay?"
Sara shook her head, "Out here, I'm free to do what I want, but at Corneo's home, I can't go poking my nose around. But I can tell you this much."
Cloud, "That is?"
Sara replied, "That you won't get Chocobo Sam's approval."
Aerith demanded, "Why?!"
Sara explained, "Simple once one of the trios select a girl of their choice. They don't choose another one until Corneo sets up another audition. So no matter how pretty the girl is, that girl will have to wait until the next audition."
Aerith, "But has the others chosen their girl?"
Sara answered, "I don't know. I have met the trio in person. But my question to you is are you doing this to save Tifa?"
Cloud nodded, and Sara continued, "All right, here's what I suggest you do. First, I suggest that you try Madam M. She may not look like it, but she does despise Don Corneo; however, she does take pride in what she does best, and that is giving her customers a message."
Aerith asked, "And what about Andrea?"
Sara shook her head, "Doubt it because he's not the type to see anyone unless it's an appointment which you'd have to wait for three whole years or a request by one of the trio, and I don't think Madam M or Sam will give Andrea a call so that you can get his approval."
Aerith, "So our best option is Madam M."
Sara nodded and gave instructions, "Once you head out of the alley, guide your way back to the south entrance. Look for the red paper lanterns, follow them, and Madam M's parlor is just ahead."
Cloud asked, "You're not coming with us?"
Sara replied, "No, I've got to get back to Leslie. He's probably wondering where I've been. Gotta keep up with appearances."
Cloud, "All right, be careful, and I'm glad that you're alive."
Sara was a little surprised to hear that from Cloud. She didn't think that he'd cared; perhaps he does have a soft side to him. Sara left Cloud, and Aerith then ran back to Leslie's place. It was a good thing that Leslie wasn't inside at the same time she wondered if Leslie is still busy with work. She decided to investigate. Sara went into Corneo's Mansion through the front door. Luckily that the two lackeys knew her, and so they let her pass through without a fuss. As she went to the central foyer, she found Leslie having a small plastic bag in his hand. He spotted her then shoved the bag to her.
Leslie ordered, "Give this to the girl downstairs in the basement. It's food for her."
Sara didn't like that she was ordered, but in this case, it means she was going to see Tifa. In response, Sara replied, "Yes, sir!"
Sara went for the basement area; Sara noticed that there were stone walls and lit several candles on her way downstairs. She stood in front of a heavy-looking wooden door. Sara pulled out a metal key and unlocked the door then walked in. The room itself was a torture room, unlike the decorations upstairs. This room has a medieval aesthetic and is a stone dungeon lit by a single candle. The room has several torture devices around a red table in the center. Sara spotted Tifa pacing in the room; she was wearing an indigo minidress with matching ankle-strapped heels.
Tifa spots Sara looking at her curiously, "Um..."
Sara chuckled and spoke in her normal voice, "Guess my outfit fooled you too?"
Tifa looks at Sara carefully and gasps in shock, "Sara, is that you?! Oh my god, that eye-patch and that outfit!"
Sara rolled her eyes and ranted, "Nailed it, I know, so shut up and eat your dinner."
Sara put the bag on the red table and crossed her arms. Tifa was a bit surprised when she saw that Sara is dressed as a man. Yet, she was glad that Sara is alive.
Tifa immediately hugged Sara, "I'm glad that you are alive. The gang and I thought that we lost you and Cloud."
Sara, "I just saw him, and he's worried about you." Then, she began to question, "Tifa, what are you doing here?"
Tifa began to explain, "Well, you see, after we made it back to the slums, some guys came around asking all kinds of questions."
Sara asked, "Lemme guess they were Corneo's men?"
Tifa nodded and continued, "Right, they were interested in Avalanche, but I couldn't figure out why. So I thought I'd come and ask the man himself."
Sara exclaimed, "Seriously?!"
Tifa, "Thought if I could find a way in and get some one-on-one time. But then I realized I'd only be one of three candidates and that if he didn't pick me, it would all be for nothing."
Sara pinched her nose and sighed in exasperation, "Seriously, Tifa, you've just put yourself in a den of wolves."
Yet Sara was also curious about Corneo interested in Avalanche. So there had to be some reason behind Corneo's motive.
Tifa wondered, "Sara, are you one of Corneo's men? You look like one with that outfit."
Sara smiled, "Not really, let's say that I'm an assistant for Corneo's top henchmen."
Tifa seemed happy to know and asked, "So can you somehow find out why Corneo has been looking for Avalanche?"
Sara lowers her head in doubt, "I don't know, I may be Corneo's pretend lackey, but that doesn't mean that I can just go up and ask the man himself. It will give away my cover. I'll try to ask if someone else knows."
Tifa smiled, "Thanks, Sara."
Sara heard Leslie's voice calling, "Zora! Get your ass up here!"
Tifa wondered, "Zora?"
Sara replied, "My fake name. I gotta go, and don't worry."
After that, Sara locked the door leaving Tifa alone; when she went upstairs, she found Leslie with his arms crossed. His yellow eyes glared at her as if she'd done something wrong.
Instead of scolding her, Leslie turned around and said, "Let's go; we're needed at the colosseum."
Sara said nothing and followed. They went to another grand building with two giant statues standing outside the building and two more inside the reception area. In the reception, patterns are engraved in gold on the walls, ink paintings hung on posters, and kanji symbols written on doors. Leslie walks over to one of the receptionists and goes through the door. Sara follows him, and they take an elevator.
As they waited, Leslie breaks the silence, "That girl, is she your friend?"
Sara knew Leslie was referring to Tifa, and so she answered, "Yeah, I'm sorry if I overstep my boundaries. I'm just glad that she's okay."
Leslie asked, "So why is she in the audition?"
Sara looked at him suspiciously; she wondered if he was asking for info to tell Corneo. So she decided not to answer.
Leslie looked at her and assured her as if he sensed her hesitation, "I'm not going to tell Corneo. However, I can see that you care for her, so tell me."
Sara was relieved to hear, and she began to explain, "She is trying to find out why Corneo is interested in Avalanche. That's why she decided to be a chosen candidate."
Leslie pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, "Seriously, are girls these days have become stupid? Does she have a plan if Corneo doesn't pick her?"
Sara shrugged, "I don't think so, but then there may be a solution to this."
Leslie, "And that is?"
"Do you remember the blonde guy with spiky hair and that brown-haired girl? Sara asked; Leslie nodded. "Their names are Cloud and Aerith. Cloud is also a good friend of mine, and he knows Tifa. Aerith only knows Tifa through Cloud, and they were trying to figure out a way to rescue her. So if Aerith can get approval from Andrea or Madam M."
Leslie seemed to have caught on and said, "This girl Aerith can also ask Corneo as well. But what if neither one of them don't get picked?"
Sara lowered her head and muttered, "I don't know."
Leslie shook his head, "I get your intentions, and I will say this. Corneo is a man that will do anything to get what he wants and to protect himself. So if the plan you spoke of will work, there's a high chance that Corneo will do something to do that against you even if your friend gets the info she needs."
Sara knew that the whole time. She knew the risks and was willing to find a way to help out no matter what the trouble is.
Leslie smirked, "But when you have someone like me that's willing to help out. I could care less about that bastard."
Sara gasped and asked, "So does that mean you'll help out?"
Leslie nodded and said, "As far as why Corneo wants to know more about Avalanche? I'm not sure about that myself. Only that he received a strange phone call that demanded to speak to him after the phone call; Corneo has been sending out his men to search for Avalanche."
Hearing this, Sara wondered, A strange phone call? Now, who could've called some crime lord to find more about Avalanche? Unless it's..."
Sara shook her head in denial, trying not to think about it too much. Only Corneo will know the true answer. So now it's all about getting Aerith into that audition.
Sara turned to Leslie, asking a different subject, "So where are we heading exactly?"
Wherever they are going, the place must be buried deep underground since they've been in this elevator for a long time.
Leslie answered, "We're going to the underground colosseum. Corneo is hosting an event called the Corneo Cup, and the prize money is one million Gil. So you and I are going as spectators as representatives of Corneo himself. Lucky for you, your two friends are Madam M's new champions, and if they win this event, they will receive the prize money. I'm sure you know why they are participating."
Sara nodded, "Yeah."
Sara was relieved that they listened to her suggestion. This means that Madam M plans to help Aerith get into that audition. Now, if only somehow Cloud could get in.
The elevator finally stopped and opened its doors. Leslie is the first one stepping out, followed by Sara. Taking a sharp turn, Sara was stunned at the view of the stadium.
Several giant gold statues of warriors and dragons surround the central arena, and a large screen gives information on competitors for the audience watching from the podiums. Where Sara was standing was a box seat that had the perfect view of the arena. Sara also noticed that Leslie wasn't the only one that had to come here. Madam M, Chocobo Sam, and Andrea were also here. In addition, Andrea brought three honey girls and two honey boys.
Madam M notices Sara and smiles, "Well, well, Sara, you look mighty sharp in that outfit."
Sam looked at Madam M confused, "Sara? Isn't that Zora?"
Madam M chuckled, "Can't you tell with those old eyes of yours? Zora is a woman in disguise."
Sam looked at Sara hard and was shocked, "Well, I'll be damn if Madam M hadn't said nothing. I would've thought you were a man. My apologies for anything that I may have set you off."
Sara assured him, "None taken."
Sam turned to face the arena and said, "Looks like the tournament is about to begin."
Sara walked over to get a closer look and saw two guys walking into the arena. Sara knew them, for they were Corneo's other high-ranked men, Scotch and Kotch.
Scotch is a man with a slim build. He has light skin, black hair styled in a high ponytail shaved on the sides, a scar above his lip, and his eyes are concealed behind a pair of sunglasses. He wears a green-buttoned jacket with prominent white cuffs, black and white gloves, silky black pants, and tall black boots. And Kotch is a man with a slim and muscular build. He has dark skin, tall blond hair styled in a mohawk, and brown eyes hidden beneath a pair of sunglasses. In addition, Kotch wears an unzipped red puffer vest, a black studded belt, blue jeans, and tall brown boots. He also wears a brown glove, a brown wristband, and a gold chain.
The two men stopped in the middle of the arena, and the crowd goes wild as they begin their announcement.
Scotch, "In the city that never sleeps!"
Kotch, "In the paradise of debauchery and sin of pain and pleasure!"
"Where your every desire can be indulged for the right price Wall Market!"
"To you esteemed connoisseurs of chaos and bloodshed. We bid you the warmest of welcomes!"
"Are you sitting comfortably? For tonight, the most gruesome spectacle anywhere in Wall Market or beyond shall be yours to witness! Here in the Corneo Colosseum!"
Several fireworks shot up, and the crowd cheers as Scotch and Kotch continue their speech.
Kotch, "Tonight's grand prize is no less than one million Gil! And there is only one way to get it: brutalize your opponent!"
Scotch, "Thoroughly and utterly!"
"Viciously!"
"Ruthlessly!"
"Until they vomit blood!"
"Only the most ruthless fighters."
"The savages still standing here at the end."
"Shall claim the Gil and the glory!"
Kotch, "And now, the long-awaited event in which the blood starved beasts will battle for your amusement is upon us!"
Scotch, "Warriors of every shape and size will fight to the death before your very eyes! In tonight's Corneo Cup!"
After the announcement was over, the event started. The first few fights began with the preliminaries. Sara wasn't interested in the preliminaries and decided to sit next to Leslie. The preliminaries were over in no less than ten minutes. Then Scotch and Kotch began to announce the final opponents.
Scotch, "For our next match, we welcome two fighters, a young couple, no less!"
Kotch, "Talk about a bad date!"
Scotch, "This is their first tournament!"
Kotch, "A bad first date!"
Scotch, "And most likely their last, inexperienced as they are or are they?! Give it up for Cloud and Aerith!"
Knotch covers his mouth and speaks in a high pitch voice, "Booo! Get lost! Go home! You suck!"
One door opens, and walking in the arena are Cloud and Aerith, who holds a staff. Sara begins to watch them as the spectators start to shout out some insults.
"Couple!? Get outta here with that lovey-dovey bullshit!"
"Sup with the pole!? Gonna do a little dance for us, baby girl?"
Aerith glared at the spectators after hearing that last shout.
She turns to Cloud and says with an angry look, "Okay. Now I'm mad!"
Kotch, "Their opponent one of Wall Market's own a renowned master of beasts!"
The crowd goes while as Kotch continues, "Will his pets make a meal of our two challengers before our very eyes?"
Scotch, "They've already been given their appetizer!"
Kotch, "Their hunger for flesh and fear is unquenchable. The demon dogs of hell, the Sanguine Stalkers!"
The other door opens, and a man runs out, panicking as two hellhounds chase the man. But a loud whistle stops the dogs, and they walk back to their master, who holds the whistle. The man runs back to the open door.
Aerith saw that their opponent brought animals, "You brought animals?"
The beastmaster sneered, "Oh? First-timers, huh? There's no rule that says you gotta fight man-to-man."
Scotch began to speak again from the sidelines, "We're in for a treat, ladies and gentlemen! Who will prevail in this brutal contest between man and beast!? This could be over in an instant, so don't even blink! Without further ado, the fourth match of the first round begins now!"
Sara chuckled and walked back to Leslie. Noticing her confident look, Leslie asked, "You not worried?"
Sara shook her head, "No, I've fought many things with Cloud. This is a no-brainer for him as for Aerith..."
Sara observed Aerith as the girl casts powerful spells that stuns the hellhounds while giving Cloud a boost of magic. Sara could already tell from experience that Aerith possesses powerful magic.
Sara concluded her answer, "She's one of a kind. This match will be over soon."
As Sara predicted, the match was over. Cloud and Aerith won the battle. After their fight, it was onto the second round. Sara didn't even bother watching the second round until Cloud and Aerith were next.
Their next opponent or opponents were a group of thieves from the ruins of Sector 6, and they'd brought six more people to join them.
Seeing this, Sara looked at Leslie, "Hey, doesn't that count as cheating and unfair?"
Leslie looked at her as if she had grown a second head, "Do you think that rules in this town matter?"
Sara was stunned, and she didn't know how to respond to that.
Leslie sighed annoyingly, "As long as Corneo agrees, they'll have to deal with it."
As Leslie said, a cartoon character version of Corneo pops on the screen. The cartoon holds up a sign that says Okay.
Sara shook her head and sighs, "Well, I know Cloud can handle a bunch of hooligans even if they are nothing more than pea-brains, and Aerith is a strong girl."
The match took longer than the last one, and in the end, Cloud and Aerith won again. The match seemed to spark interest in the Trio, mainly on Cloud.
Sam commented, "That kid's really something."
Madam M smiled, "Well, of course, he is. I did give him a massage, you know." She stood up and continued, "His palm told quite the tale. He's cheated death more than a few times."
Sam humphed, "So have half the people in this town. Anyway, we're both still alive."
Sam flipped a gold coin, caught it, and turned to Madam M, "Call it."
Only Madam M gave him an annoying sigh, "There you go again. One of these days your luck is going to run out."
She walks towards him and pats him on the shoulder. Sam smiles and takes hold of her hand, "When I fall from grace, maybe I'll land in your parlor once more."
Madam M gave him an icy glare and snatched her hand away, then sat back down on her chair and said coldly, "That is one mistake I will never repeat."
Sam chuckled.
One of the honey girls looks at Andrea and smiles, "You gotta admit, Andi, the way he moves is totally amazing!"
There was no response, and the honey girls whines, "Andi!"
Andrea only rubbed his chin while his eyes look at the door waiting for Cloud to come out to the arena.
The final match was here. Cloud and Aerith walk back to the arena as the crowd goes nuts. Their opponent is Chocobo Sam's champions. Which, to Sara's surprise, was Shinra armor. Yet, Sara wasn't worried because Cloud knew the weakness of those machines. In the end, Cloud and Aerith won the match.
Madam M looked at Sam and smiled, "My condolences."
Sam said nothing, only a tiny chuckle. Madam M looked at him, surprised, "Oh! You're taking this rather well. I was looking forward to a little temper tantrum.
Sam, "When you bet it all on a toss, sometimes you get burned by lady luck. Every coin has two sides."
Madam M agreed, "You're right of course, even if they are both the same."
Sam chuckled and said, "Later."
After that, he left to go pick up the pieces of his robots. Madam M sighed and stood up from her seat.
She starts to leave, "And now, I believe I have a prize to collect."
Leslie stopped her, "Sorry, the Madam will have to wait."
Sara and Madam M looked at Leslie in surprise as he explains, "The don's demanding that we tack on one more match, it seems."
Madam M exclaims, "What?"
Leslie, "If they win out, then you get paid in full."
Madam M marches over with an angry look, "Now hold on just a goddamn minute!"
Leslie reminds her, "His call, not mine."
Madam M glares at him then leaves to break the news to Cloud and Aerith.
Sara sighs and asks, "Why does Corneo want them to tack on one more match?"
Leslie replies, "Apparently, a lot of people were placing high bets on their matches. More than the usual, and so Corneo wants to milk this one out."
Sara clicks her tongue, "So who's their opponent?"
Leslie shrugs his shoulders, "Only Corneo knows, not even I know. But that's how it is in Wall Market, Corneo makes the rules, and we have no choice but to obey them. Even I dislike his way of ruling."
Sara could only shake her head. After all who would go up against a powerful man like Corneo in this low town.
The actual final match ended on a high note. Corneo's fighter of choice turned out to be a house that was turned into an evil entity. Even though the house did give Cloud and Aerith a hard battle, yet the couple prevailed. Sara was thrilled to see the end of the fight.
Even Madam M jumped with joy, including the honey bee girls.
Andrea looks at Cloud in particular and mutters, "That boy..."
Madam M notices Andrea's unusual look and comments, "Awfully rare, you showing an interest in someone. What will you do?"
Andrea says nothing but only lets out a smile.
Sara headed back to Leslie's house and decided to clean her sword. At the same time, she waited for Cloud and Aerith to return, which could be for several hours. Yet, Sara still wonders why Corneo is looking for Avalanche? Who was it that called him? Sara had a foreboding feeling in her gut.
After cleaning her sword and eating some red bean buns, Sara head back outside, and when she did, she saw two familiar people walking on the bridge wearing dresses. Aerith wears a red spaghetti-strapped formal gown with frill designs and red heels. Her long light brown wavy hair is let loose but retains her pink ribbon.
When Sara saw Cloud, her eyes widen, and she tries not to bust out laughing as she rushes up to the window and sees Cloud walking in wearing a purple dress and braided blonde wig.
She covers her mouth one-handed, trying to suppress her laugh, Oh my gosh! I can't believe that it is Cloud! He must've gotten Andrea's approval since he did take an interest in Cloud back at the arena.
Sara wasn't the only one shocked by Cloud's new look. Even Leslie was taken back when he saw them.
Leslie's eyes widen, "No way."
Aerith smiled and handed Leslie two letters, "Here you are, letters from Andrea Rhodea and Madam M. That ought to do the trick, right?"
Leslie shook his head, "You serious?"
Aerith asked, "Is there a problem?"
Leslie stepped aside and said with a warning, "I hope you know what you're in for."
Aerith smiled, "Oh, we'll be fine."
Leslie shrugged, "If you say so. Come on."
Aerith and Cloud walked to the central foyer. After seeing them leave, Leslie decided to find Sara. He went to his small house and found a laughing girl dressed as a boy on the floor. Leslie shook his head, and yet he found it comical at Sara's reaction.
Sara roared with laughter, "Hahahaha! Oh Cloud, how have the tables have turned! I can't believe that you went that far! Hahahaha!"
Leslie spoke coldly, "And yet you are cross-dressing too."
Sara immediately stopped and stood up, "Oh! Leslie, I didn't mean to..."
Leslie, "Enough, right now, the audition is about to start. Let's hope that your friends will be all right in the end."
Before Sara could answer, there was a knock on the door. Leslie put his hand on the pistol that he keeps hidden in his jacket and slowly cracked the door. He looked through the tiny crack and sighed. The door opened, and walking in was Andrea.
Andrea chuckled, "I see that our two lovely brides went in, and I'm sure you already know that they are not ordinary brides."
Sara crossed her arms, "Yeah, and what's your point?"
Andrea smirks and snaps his fingers. A honey bee boy and girl come walking in carrying a large bag, and the other one holds a familiar sword that belongs to Cloud.
Andrea explains, "I've brought you and your friends' clothes and gear. I'm sure you are aware that Corneo has something that they want. You don't want to go up against Corneo without coming prepared. I wish all four of you good luck."
After that, Andrea left along with his honey bee boy and girl. Sara and Leslie stood there completely surprised.
Leslie turned to Sara and told her, "Better get changed and quickly."
Sara nodded and quickly grabbed her regular clothes from the bag and then went to the bathroom to change. Once she was done, she and Leslie grabbed the bag of clothes and Cloud's sword then head to the mansion. They went into a room where most of Corneo's men hang out. Once they walked in, they saw Aerith and Tifa surrounded by unconscious men.
Sara commented, "Well, you guys certainly took care of them."
Tifa was surprised to see Sara and exclaimed, "Sara?! You're here!"
When Tifa saw Leslie behind Sara, she narrowed her eyes in suspicion. However, Sara shook her head and explained, "Andrea brought us our gear, and so Leslie pitched in to help."
Leslie rolled his eyes and put the stuff down, and said, "I'll do what I can to clean this up. Just finish the job."
Leslie head out of the door then shut it behind him. Aerith immediately exclaimed, "Thank you!"
Sara turned to them and said, "I'll wait outside while you guys get ready."
Tifa and Aerith nodded as Sara left the room. She found Leslie standing in the hallway or, more like guarding the door that leads to the central chamber. Sara stood in front of Leslie, who looked at her curiously.
He asked, "What is it?"
Sara replied, "I wanted to thank you for everything. If it wasn't for you, I don't think I would've made it out there on my own, not with Shinra on the lookout for me. I guess this means I owe you one."
Leslie shrugged, "No need, I only did it because I don't want to see another person I know to be taken away by Corneo."
Leslie looked away that made Sara noticed a painful look in his eyes. She was about to ask him when Tifa and Aerith opened the door, all geared up and ready.
Seeing them ready to go, Leslie looked at Sara and urged her, "Better hurry."
Tifa and Aerith rushed out to the central chamber; Sara was about to follow them. However, she had to give Leslie a final saying.
She presents her left fist to Leslie and smiles, "Take care of yourself, Leslie."
Leslie humphs and walks away, not returning Sara a fist bump. Seeing Leslie walk away like that made Sara feel hurt. Yet, she knew that Leslie was the type to draw a line between himself and others. However, she knew that he has a good heart.
Sara quickly made her way to Corneo's office, finding Tifa and Aerith knocking out a couple of Corneo's goons. Then went over to the door behind the desk. The girls could hear Cloud and Corneo's voices from the door.
Corneo, "Hehehe! Don't stop!"
Cloud, "You depraved bastard."
Corneo laughed, "Yes! Yes, I am! Here I come, baby! Waaah!"
The girls heard something crashing in the room. Sara couldn't help but chuckle, Looks like Corneo is getting his butt whooped by Cloud.
Corneo barked, "Hey! Who the hell gave you permission to do that!? One of you get in here and teach this bitch some manners!"
Tifa smirked and kicked the door that caused it the flung open. She and the other girls walked in and said, "Sorry, but your boys had to learn some manners too."
Corneo exclaimed, "What the!?"
Aerith handed Cloud the bag of clothes, "Cloud! Your clothes!"
Once Aerith handed the bag to Cloud, the girls turned around, giving Cloud a bit of privacy. Yet, Corneo watched as who he thought the bride he picked was a woman. He was shocked that the bride was a man.
Yet, he held his surprise as he glared at Cloud, "So you're a man, huh? What are you four up to?"
The girls turned around, and Tifa spoke in a bossly manner, "We'll ask the questions. Like why'd you have men in Sector 7 asking about Avalanche?"
Corneo groaned as he sat on his big bed and began to play dumb, "Huh? Dunno what you're talking about."
Tifa knew that he was lying and pressed on, "Don't play dumb with me. Let's try again. Why did you have men in Sector 7 asking about Avalanch? Spill the beans or..."
Cloud adds a threat while putting a hand to his sword, "I'll cut 'em off."
Corneo started to panic and stammered, "Alright, alright! I'll talk! I'll talk!"
Cloud lowers his hand while everyone waits for Corneo's answer.
Corneo, "Some guy with a gun for an arm! I was paid to find him!"
There was only one guy with a gun for an arm that everyone knew, and that was Barret. Yet, who was paying Corneo to find Barret?
Tifa questioned, "Paid by who?"
Corneo, "I can't tell you that! They'd hunt me down like a dog!"
Tifa dictated, "Well, you better 'cause if you don't..."
Aerith smirks and says, "I'll rip 'em off!"
Corneo panics again and turns pale, and he answers, "It was the director of Public Security! Heidegger! It was Heidegger!"
Tifa gasped, "Shinra? And what were they planning?"
Corneo shooks his head, refusing to say anything, "Some things are better left unsaid, ya know!?"
Aerith begins to smile and talk sweetly, "See, I'm not so sure they are. Better keep talking."
Tifa puts a boot on Corneo's bed and says, "Or I'll smash 'em."
Corneo whines, and a blade gets pointed at his face. He looks at the sword and sees Sara holding it with a look that could kill.
Sara adds another threat, "And I'll burn them."
Corneo whimpers for a bit then they turn into laughter. The look on Corneo's face changed from being a scared kitten to a cat with a threatening smile. Everyone starts to put up their guard.
Corneo, "Heh, Alright, you got me. I could never say no to a sexy girl. Since Avalanche blew up two reactors, Shinra's decided they ought to stamp them out, home base and all. And I mean stamp out."
Corneo clamped both of his hands together and continued, "By targeting the support pillar and blowing it up."
Tifa gasped, "The pillar?!"
Corneo smirked, "Did I stutter? The plate will come crashing down! It'll be Sector 6 all over again. I'm sure you've been there and seen the wreckage for yourself. So you know exactly what Sector 7's gonna look like!"
Sara's heart dropped as she and the others knew what happened to Sector 6. When Midgar was still under construction, Sector 6 suffered a disaster when its support pillar had a fatal accident, and the top plate came crashing down. Many people were living on and below the plate, and when the plate hit down, many lives were lost—but hearing this from Corneo on what Shinra is going to do to Sector 7.
Tifa couldn't believe it and said, "They wouldn't..."
Aerith urged the others, "Come on, guys! We gotta go!"
They were about to leave, but Corneo shouted, "Before you do!"
Cloud hissed, "No!"
Corneo insisted, "Please, this won't take long. As everyone knows, villains only divulge their plans in a certain situation. But what is that situation?"
Corneo waited for the group to answer his question. Sara replied, "When they think they've already won."
Corneo rejoiced, "We have a winner, and the prize is..." He puts a hand to an arm of a dragon statue and says, "In the sewers."
He pulls the dragon's arm down, which was a secret lever, and the floor beneath Sara and the others was gone. They were standing on a trapped door!
Unable to reacted, they fell straight down while hearing the laughter of Corneo.
"Hee hee hahaha! Enjoy the sights and smells!"
