Zade was aggressively digging up a part of the ground when Kyros catches up to him. Beads of sweat were rolling down from his forehead but he continued digging as if his life depended on it. He senses Kyros's presence but doesn't stop from his labor.
"She deserves a proper burial at least." Zade says, wiping the sweat with his dirty hands, "I already called Odin and Damon. They'll be here tomorrow to perform the last rites."
"Are you okay?" Kyros asks while stopping Zade. He holds his shoulder.
"Why not?" Zade replies without looking at Kyros. He continues on the other side of the grave. "I finally found the truth about everything."
Kyros is a bit worried that what Zade was trying to bury was his feelings and not Evelyn. He stops his hand.
"Zade, look at me." He takes the shovel away from him, "If it hurts, just talk to me."
"I am fine." Zade insists and takes the shovel back. "There is nothing to talk about."
"Your fiancé was brutally killed." Kyros puts it out bluntly. Zade looks back at him with emotionless eyes.
"The same fiancé who is responsible for Irene's death."
"I am not asking you to forgive her. I am asking you to say it out loud that you are hurting right now." Kyros comforts him but he turns his back on him.
"It doesn't," he replies in a cold voice. "It doesn't really matter what I think or feel. It's already been established that I am selfish." He says with a tone that resonates that of a scorched lover.
Kyros clicks his tongue. He guessed this will be something that both of them have to tackle themselves. But he can try to help a little.
"Inara didn't mean it." He says in an assuring tone.
"Of course, she did," Zade replies. "You didn't see the look on her face when she spit out those words." He hands the shovel to Kyros, asking him to help. "I wouldn't be surprised if you think the same too." He casually slips that in.
"Zade..." Kyros holds the shovel tightly.
"Actually, you know what?" Zade cuts him mid-sentence, "Maybe she is right. Maybe that's what I'll do. Once Damon recovers completely, I'll never see your faces." He fakes a smile and continues digging.
Kyros hides his urge to just smack him with the shovel but speaks calmly, "I know you don't mean that."
"How would you know that? Your sister seems to have perfectly figured me out." He replies with sarcasm.
"See, I don't know why she said what she said, but she doesn't mean it." Kyros snatches his shovel and throws it away, "Right now, what you need is a break." He holds his shoulders. "It is okay to be hurt. It is okay to cry."
Zade lets out a tired sigh and puts his head on Kyros's shoulder, not hugging him. Kyros pats his head and could feel tears on his shirt.
"There you go." He consoles Zade, "I cannot make the pain go away. But I can sit here with you and give you company until you are ready to pull yourself out of that dark place."
Those words comforted Zade in a great manner. He suddenly remembered Damon.
"How would Damon feel about all this?" thinking about how he would react about Evelyn.
"I don't know," Kyros replies honestly. "Maybe hurt and angry, just like you?"
Zade wipes his tears and sits beside the dug-up ground. He seems to have given up. "I don't have the courage to tell him."
Kyros sits beside him and pats his head, "We can talk about it tomorrow. You need to rest for today."
"Well, you finally awoke your wolf!" Ivory speaks to cut down the awkwardness. She and Abir were in Inara's room but she was just staring out of the window. She tries to make small talks but the air is just so dense in that room that they feel like they are talking to a stranger.
"Sadly," Abir joins in with a cheerful tone, "You fainted before you could see her for yourself."
Inara was still silent.
"Do you remember anything else?" Abir asks.
She is still staring out of the window, completely silent.
"How about this?" Ivory breaks the ice, "Let's have some dinner and we can talk about..."
"Just say what you guys want to say." Inara finally says. "I hate it when you keep stalling."
"Don't push Zade away. He was really hurt today." Abir addresses the elephant in the room.
"I know...." Inara says with a sigh.
"Why do I get a feeling that you didn't mean any of it?" Ivory asks suspiciously.
"I meant every word of it," Inara replies sternly.
"I don't get you." Ivory remarks. "One time you are jealous over him and were ready to fight Evelyn and now you are pushing him away. He won't stay there forever, waiting for you, you know." She takes a defensive position.
"Maybe that's what she wants." Abir remarks.
"I don't want to put his or his pack's life in danger anymore," Inara says. "Just knowing the fact that I am his mate is enough for me. Today was an eye-opener of how people who get attached to me, are killed in cold blood." She clenches the chair she was holding on to.
"Are you remembering something else?" Ivory asks. Her tone seems to be directed towards a specific memory.
"I keep getting glimpses." Inara admits, "That doesn't mean that I don't understand that someone is getting killed because of me. Because I am this 'special wolf'." She points at herself.
"I need to bury my feelings for Zade's safety." She sounds so stern that Ivory and Abir look at each other worriedly.
The car was silent and it was itching Victor. They were out of the forest and now driving back into town. Brent was awfully silent making it more awkward between the two brothers.
"Why are you so quiet?" Victor starts a conversation but Brent keeps looking out of the window.
"Anything that makes my brother weak and pathetic, I will eliminate it for you. Your brother will do it for you." Victor says in his dark voice.
"She was pregnant," Brent replies solemnly, knowing it doesn't really affect Victor.
"And your mate. So what?" Victor says nonchalantly, "You will get hundreds of better mates. I'll find them for you."
"You just wanted to break the blood pact. Just to kill Zade." Brent catches up.
"You are finally catching up. It wouldn't have to be this way if it wasn't for your stupidity." Victor hisses.
"I am stupid," Brent replies robotically.
"Just bury whatever regret you have in the back of your mind," Victor suggests. "I have a lot of things planned." He smirks as the car drives through the thick of the night.
