"Why?" Ivory stands in a defensive position.
"I just don't feel like it." Inara pulls the cover on her, cuddling in her blanket. Everyone decided on a small bonfire just after the dinner to welcome Kyros and Inara back into their home. But Inara was refusing. Partly because she didn't want to see Evelyn and the other part being confused as to how to face Zade.
"But you were the one who suggested it!" Ivory exclaims. She doesn't understand why Inara was behaving this way. Was it because of Evelyn?
"It is because of that bitch?" Ivory sits beside her bed. Inara peaks from her blanket and then takes a deep sigh. She doesn't know how to answer this. She wasn't a person who would keep a grudge against someone but Evelyn was someone she doesn't want to see, anymore.
"I know you don't want to forgive her. But she has gained sympathy from all the boys." Ivory says irritatingly.
"Even Abir?" Inara asks, shocked. Abir would always support Ivory, no matter what.
"He was like she is leaving tomorrow. This is the least we should do, for ourselves. Something about inner peace." Ivory makes a face.
"I'll come." Inara finally accepts her defeat. She will test the waters. If Zade is actually interested in Evelyn, she will let him go. But she isn't backing down without a fight. She wouldn't let anything come in between her and Zade if they are meant to be.
"And that's how I met Zade." Kyros relates his story of the first time he met Zade. "I knew from that day, I'll like him."
"Of course. Zade is very likable." Evelyn interrupts. Inara is looking at her as if she would rip her head off. But Zade just laughs it off.
"She wouldn't say this when we used to stay together. We fought Every. Single. Day." Zade laughs, taking a sip from his drink.
"How long were you engaged?" Abir asks out of curiosity.
"Six years, right? You had the engagement ceremony the day you were leaving for your exile." Kyros chimes in, totally ignorant of how his sister was feeling.
"It means you would know a lot about each other." Abir teases.
"Bullshit!" Zade almost chokes on his drink.
"That's not true!" Evelyn defends herself. "And I have the story to prove it." She smirks.
"No way! You can't!" Zade struggles to keep her mouth shut but Inara speaks.
"No. We want to hear it too." As she had decided earlier, she would be testing the waters.
"So, when he was around 12 or 13, he loved looking for spiders." Evelyn starts but is soon interrupted by Abir.
"That is bullshit! Zade hates spiders." And invited a death glare from Zade.
"That is after his wolf awoke. Turns out, his wolf was afraid of spiders. He used to catch spiders and keep them as his 'treasure'." Evelyn chuckles. "I am pretty sure Odin still has some of those jars."
"I used to call catching those spiders as 'hunting'. Hence, my wolf's name is Hunter." Zade says with an embarrassed face.
"A painful reminder that he cannot 'hunt' down any more spiders." Evelyn bursts out laughing with the others. Only Inara looked uncomfortable.
She could swear that when Evelyn looked at her, she was mocking her with a cocky expression.
Inara opens her eyes after another desperate attempt to go to sleep. It was three in the morning and everyone was already in their rooms. Though she didn't see Evelyn come upstairs yet. Not that she cares. She steps down from her bed, feeling a bit thirsty. Maybe a bit of fresh air would clear her head and she'll be able to sleep.
She descends the stairs and the lights were off. Which means everyone was in their rooms. Then why wasn't Evelyn upstairs yet? She was supposed to be beside Inara's room. Inara walks to the kitchen and gulps down a whole water bottle in one go. It quenched her thirst but not her curiosity.
As she was about to step on the first stair, she could hear a door open. It was coming from the direction of Zade's room and a shadow was leaving his room, in the dark of the night. It was none other than Evelyn!
Once Evelyn saw Inara, she starts to fiddle with her clothes, as if she was adjusting them.
"Oops, it wasn't supposed to be like this!" she tries to sound guilty but Inara knew she wasn't. She was mocking Inara.
"We got to talking after the bonfire, and one thing led to another and..."
"Have I asked?" Inara says, annoyingly. She goes upstairs and closes her door with a bang.
Inara wakes up to her stupid alarm. It was eight in the morning but she couldn't sleep a wink last night. She gets up to see herself in the mirror, her eyes laden with dark circles and a tired face.
"Damm you, Evelyn!" she curses out loud.
Her stomach was already rumbling with hunger so she goes down to the kitchen. It seems nobody was awake but what was the noise coming from the kitchen? One peek and she recognized the voices even before she could recognize their faces. Not that she could, it was covered with flour!
"Oh, Inara!" Evelyn looks taken aback as Inara was standing there, judging both of them. "I am sorry, I was trying to make breakfast and I ruined your kitchen..."
"Don't lie." Zade interrupts, dusting off the flour from Evelyn. "She would have burned the kitchen down if I wouldn't help. But she started this first!" he points at the mess in the kitchen.
"Don't lie! You threw the apron at me!" Evelyn and Zade start bickering again.
"Are you done?" Inara asks, annoyingly. She drinks a glass of water and looks at Zade with a disappointed expression. She bangs the glass on the table and walks out, puffing out steam from both of her ears. She also drags Evelyn with her to have a one on one talk.
"Inara, wait!" Zade calls out but they already went out.
"What is your problem?" Evelyn frees herself from Inara's hold and looks at her innocently.
"Don't try to be so innocent." Inara holds her arm again. "What are you really trying to do?"
Inara doesn't know why was she asking this. But a part of her must be hoping that all that her eyes see is not the truth. And it definitely wasn't.
"Just trying to remind you of your memories." A voice from behind Evelyn startles Inara. Zade had also come out to help the two ladies and was equally shocked.
There stood, in all glory Victor and Brent.
"Remember me?" Victor grins, showing his ugly teeth.
