Zade is dozing in his office. The banter he had with Evelyn last night and the weird behaviour of Abir didn't let him sleep at all. He already gave Inara's phone to Ivory seeing she wasn't in the office today. Even Abir wasn't in the office and Ivory seems pretty mum about everything.
But there was something different. Victor was in the office which was a very rare case. This already caused an uproar and rumors fly fast.
"I heard what she did at the party yesterday." A colleague was gossiping with another colleague. Zade didn't mean to eavesdrop but they were standing too close to the coffee machine.
"What? Who?" the other colleague asks, intrigued.
"Inara. The chief editor."
"She straight-up refused the director's offer of the CEO's position." The colleague makes a shocked face.
"Damm! She got guts!" the other one exclaims.
"Or she was just being foolish. The director is in the office today," he whispers the next part, "Which he rarely comes to and he looked pissed. Poor Brent has been in his office for hours." The colleague shrugs.
Zade controls himself so he wouldn't crush the soda can.
"Such a bitch!" the person makes a face of disgust, "She wouldn't bat an eyelid if she had to throw her friend under the bus like that."
That's it. Zade doesn't know what comes over him but he can't let them bad mouth Inara anymore. He bangs his cola can on the table, startling the two colleagues.
"Have you ever tried to understand the other person's point of view?" and then walks off so he can't have any more interaction with those minions.
As he comes out of the refreshment room, he sees Victor come out of his office. He smirks at Zade which made him uncomfortable. Even with just smirking, Victor didn't spare much of a glance at him. Brent surprises him from behind.
"Loosen up buddy." He pats Zade's shoulder and follows Victor. Zade tries not to think much about Victor's unusual behaviour that was the talk of the town right now. Instead, he focuses on work since both Abir and Inara were nowhere to be seen. Only one thought comes across his mind.
"Isn't Inara coming today?"
"Where is Odin?" Evelyn shouts on top of her voice at the poor servant. She decided to pay a visit to Zade's ancestral home after finding out that there must be someone on the other end not holding up their deal.
"Ma'am, he is meditating. He has requested that no one shall disturb him." The servant bows low.
"I don't care! I want to meet him. Now!" she pushes the servant aside and opens the door by force. Some other servants try to stop her but Odin raises his hand to signal to let her come.
"Come my child. What brings you here?" he asks in his calm voice, eyes still closed.
"Cut the crap! You already know why I came here. Zade came to meet you before he came home smelling like that slut." She uses harsh words.
"Do you need some tea? You need to calm down your nerves." He says, opening his eyes and leaning forward to serve her some.
"No!" she bangs her hand on the table in front of her. "I want assurance that the other part of the treaty is being held properly. It wouldn't take me long to prove that your pack broke it first." She threatens him but Odin was still calm.
"Don't threaten us, child. We have enough Alphas to protect us." He says, pouring tea in two glasses.
"Alphas whose wolves don't even talk to them?" Evelyn smirks but Odin doesn't seem to flinch. "Don't instigate me to go to the Elders." Her threatening tone was back.
"They are far away from Alaska, child. Don't trouble them." He places the tea in front of her calmly.
Evelyn shows her hand in defeat. "Then fix this!" pointing at the ring on her finger.
"The crystal." Odin looks shocked, "It's disappearing!"
"Yes! This means he is sleeping around with some slut rather than mating me!" she gets up furiously and paces through the room.
"He isn't sleeping around with anyone." Odin goes back to his calm tone.
"As if you'd know" Evelyn scoffs.
"I would know." Odin stands up, "He came to visit me and I didn't smell anything on him."
"But I did! I don't know who it was, but the scent was unique."
"Something you haven't smelled before?" Odin inquires.
"Yes." She sighs before continuing, "So?" Evelyn looks at him questioningly.
"So?" Odin looks back with the same expression.
"Do something!" she shouts again. Before Odin could answer, a servant knocks on the door.
As soon as it opened, a stench of smell hits Odin's nose, making him frown.
"Master, there is someone to meet you. The..." the servant says.
"I know. I can smell them till here." he walks towards the door, "Do not invite them in yet. I'll be out in a minute." He orders the servant. He looks at Evelyn again and orders her to leave too.
"Evelyn, you should go." Odin's eyes were still on the door, "It's probably nothing to be worried about. It has been years since you and Zade were engaged. Give it some time, okay? At least till Damon becomes better." He pats her shoulder.
"But...." Evelyn wants to speak but Odin raises his hand again, this time having an angry expression.
"Evelyn, leave!" he closes the door behind him to go to the living room.
Evelyn fists her hand and tries to open the door, just to peek outside.
"Long time no see!" A man greets Odin with a smile. She doesn't know who that man is. He was accompanied by another shorter man and their scents were powerful, especially the shorter ones.
"It is my honor sirs. May I ask you the purpose of your visit?" Odin bows in front of that man. Evelyn scrunches her nose. Odin is calling someone a sir?
Weren't the Blue Moons the most powerful here? But wait, they went on an exile and their pack got wiped out.
So right now, there is only one authority over the packs of Alaska.
"Yes. The Black Alders are here." Aurora, Evelyn's wolf gives her the answer.
