Cause you're a sky, 'cause you're a sky full of stars
I'm gonna give you my heart
'Cause you're a sky, 'cause you're a sky full of stars
'Cause you light up the path
I don't care, go on and tear me apart
I don't care if you do ooh ooh
'Cause in a sky, 'cause in a sky full of stars
I think I saw you

"So, boys, don't make any sound. Be very careful. We are gonna get to the fridge, get the muffins, finish them there. Then the chocolate cake. And again, no sound." Mason warned the twins.
"Okay," they fist pumped in the air.
Checking the hall very carefully, Mason led the boys to the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, they dove in.
It took two minutes to finish the muffins. Because of course, they were shoving those down their throats in light's speed.
"Now, the cake. " The boys were already going for it.
"Wait! Let me take it out." Mason removed the cover and carried the plate outside. Then he set the plate down.
"Shit," Tim said.
"Shit." James said.
What is wrong?
When he looked up, he saw a dark shadow which looked feminine.
"Shit." Mason said.
The shadow stood there, watching them.
"Look, I'm so sorry, okay. I didn't do anything. The twins, they brought me here." Mason said.
"What? You are the one who brought me here." Tim said looking up at him.
"Yes, it was your idea." James said from the other side.
Mason shrugged. "As if, Madyline's gonna believe you. Look Mady, you know how your twins are. They threatened me."
"What? We didn't. You did." They said in unison.
"I did?" Mason asked.
"Yes, you are the one who threatened us." They said to Mason, then turning to Mady's shadow they said, " Mom, we are innocent."
"Yes, of course. I would threaten you. For exactly what?" Mason asked back.
Tim gaped at him. James scratched the back of his head.
The twins are trapped in their own trap. So he thought he might let them go.
" Okay, yeah. I brought them here. For this cake okay? I am sure this is no big deal, right? Isn't it okay, Mads?"
The shadow stepped forward.
"It's okay as long as you let me have that cake." Evelyn's face was illuminated by the fridge light.
"It's Evelyn!" Tim said, "yes!"
"It's not mom. Thanks God." James said.
"So you just stood there and let me make fun of myself?" Mason crossed his arms over his chest.
"It was quite fun to see you suffering." Evelyn smiled.
"Of course. Why not?" He scoffed.
The twins were already cutting the cake and putting it on their plates.
"Not so fast." Mason hold Tim's arm.
"Or we may tell Evelyn that.." Mason clasped his mouth.
"What do you want to tell me?" Evelyn raised her eyebrow.
"Should I?" James asked for the other side.
Mason glared at him.
"Evelyn, do you know.." Before he could finish, Mason interrupted.
"I am giving you two the biggest bites of this cake." He cut the cake.
"What do I not know?" Evelyn stepped forward towards James. He quickly put a piece of cake in his mouth.
"Mom makes nice cakes." Tim came to his rescue. "And Mason always steals them whenever he is here. The next morning mom goes mad and kicks him out of the house."
"That's so not true." Mason replied.
Tim gave him a "are you stupid" look.
Mason took that as a hint and closed his mouth.
"There, now go to your room and don't bother to come back here again." Mason said to Tim and James as he handed them a plate and two forks.
"So you can have..." James winked and Tim laughed.
"You, you satans!" Mason said and the twins acted like they were screaming but they made sure to make no sounds and vanished towards their room.
"What was that about?" Evelyn asked smiling as she poured herself a glass of water.
"The usual. I like to mess with them, they like to mess with me." Mason shrugged. "Don't believe a word they say, okay? They only want to cause trouble."
"Oh, okay." Evelyn smiled being confused.
"Why are you here anyway?" Mason asked cutting a piece of cake.
"I just wanted to have a glass of water. Besides, I thought the house is being robbed." She rolled her eyes. "Turns out it's just the fridge the robber is interested about."
Mason gave her a guilty smile. "The cake's actually good. Try it out."
He handed her a fork. She took a small piece and put it inside her mouth. Then she closed her eyes.
"Madyline's cakes have that effect on people." Mason said as she opened her eyes back again.
She looked quite stoked.
"Trust me, when I say I have eaten enough baked goods in my life. I have eaten gold dusted cake in New York. I have been to the best bakery's in the city. My grandmother was a fantastic cook herself. I have eaten hers too. And God!" She shook her head.
"This," She pointed the fork to the cake, "This beats all of them. It's so light, so airy, so sweet yet at the same time there's the right hint of bitterness from the chocolate that balances it out. It's just so good."
She went for the plate after Mason already snatched it from under her hands.
"That is all for you." Mason said.
"You will just give me one bite?" Evelyn asked.
"Aha." Mason said, "I don't share foods."
"You jerk, you always eat my fries." Evelyn said pointing her index at him. Mason shrugged.
"When it comes to food, I can be a little selfish." Mason confessed.
"Nah, you will share it with me. You will open your ribcage and give your heart to me if I told you to. You are that type of person." Evelyn said out of blue.
"What made you think that?" Mason asked with a laugh.
"You sold your freaking car for them. I mean, Whoa." Evelyn said shaking her head. At the same time, she reached for the plate.
"Flattery won't get you anywhere," Mason commented. Evelyn pouted.
Mason rolled his eyes and pushed the plate towards her. "I always know where to invest. I have invested in the most profitable business."
"About that," She said devouring a piece of cake and moaning at it. "I am so sorry that I dented that car."
"That's old news." Mason waved dismissively in the air.
"No, really I am sorry." Evelyn said again. Mason nodded.
"It's fine." Mason tried to assure her.
Evelyn cut more pieces of the cake and put them inside her mouth with the fork. Her face was illuminated by the refrigerator light. Mason looked at her face and he narrowed his eyes. If he wasn't wrong there was a trails of tears on her cheek. She had been crying.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Mason sighed. He reached for her cheek. With his thumb, he trailed down the trail, Evelyn froze.
"You had been crying."
"Is that much of a surprise? I am the cry baby. Ain't I? All I do is cry, cry and cry. I am this weak whinny dramatic hopeless person who just cries at everything." Evelyn held his hand and removed it from her face.
Looking down at the table surface, Evelyn said, "I hate living like these. I hate being like this. Why the fuck I can't just move on?"
Lacing his fingers with hers, Mason said, "Just give it some time. You will move on, eventually."
"Give it some time?" Evelyn asked with her lips trembling, "You have no idea for how long I have been like this."
It was like something in Evelyn had snapped and she was pouring out the words, she hadn't said before.
Letting his hand go, Evelyn covered her face and sighed. Sniffing, she said, "I have this brain that just won't stop thinking about my past and everything that happened with me. It will keep reminding me how much my life sucks and how I should just let it go. It will keep telling me how I am so weak and non-fixable and how I can never be better, that I am alone and I can not be me, again."
Mason had been sitting across her. For some reason, he felt like he was far away from her. The distance between them was something Mason was unable to cross.
"The worst part about it that I know I am not that miserable. I know I am lot more better than just being a broken hopeless person and I can get over with it.. But every time I try, I can't. I am fucking stuck. I am never getting over anything, I am never forgetting anything from past and it keeps holding back every time I want to step forward. It's freaking inside my head. My fucking brain would never get better and never let me live."
Mason stood up and took a seat beside her. Holding her hand, he squeezed. Evelyn shivered in tears and said with her voice cracking, " I hate to cry. I hate it. It makes feel weaker than I am already."
Evelyn leaned down on his shoulder. Her hot tears streamed down on her cheek and seeped into his shirt. She kept sobbing. Mason wished he could find a way to solve her problems, to make her feel better.
"I think, if you want to break free from it all at once, it won't work. You have to take steps, baby steps and one day, you will see, you are out of it." Mason said.
Evelyn sat up straight. She wiped her tears and looked away.
"The only thing that you never do is giving yourself some credit. You have to respect yourself for whoever you have become. All this time you have been fighting with yourself and never gave in. Heck you have become a strong fighter and a beautiful person, Evelyn. Respect yourself."
Evelyn sighed.
Mason slung his arm around her shoulder and pulled her in a side hug. Evelyn leaned her head in his shoulder. "That cake is actually really good."
Mason helped himself with a bite. "I agree with you."
"I keep talking about myself. What happened with you?" Evelyn asked.
"What happened with me?" Mason asked being oblivious, eating the rest of the cake.
"I know you are not here to visit a friend or whatever you said to me. You didn't want to be in Fallholt." Evelyn stated.
Mason kept playing with icing of the cake. Evelyn was right. He wanted to leave that town. It was sucking the oxygen out of his lungs and he wanted to breathe. So he had to come here.
"Mason?" Evelyn said. Mason glanced her way. "I am your friend. You know that, right?"
Mason nodded.
"That also means you can tell me anything and I won't judge. Now spit it all out." Evelyn said.
Mason looked down at his lap.
"Mason," Evelyn said again. "I am here to help you, support you no matter what. You said to believe in myself. Let me tell you, you have to believe in me too. That will make me feel that maybe I am not a that bad friend."
"You are not a bad friend." Mason said and gave a smile.
"Then how you know so many things about me and I feel like I know nothing about you. Everyday I discover, there are more stuffs I don't know about you."
Mason could see where she was heading with it. But Mason let her continue.
"Like the day you fought with Alex and he said something about your sister. I know nothing about her. I just knew she is in UK for some reasons." Evelyn said.
Evelyn stopped and Mason glanced away. They sat in silence.
After a while, Evelyn said, "I could've asked many people and could even hear from the rumors. But I want to hear it from your mouth."
Evelyn exhaled, "What happened with your sister?"
Mason could feel his throat closing up.
"Mason?" Evelyn tugged at his wrist.
"Let's get to it."
Mason sighed.
It was story time.
