26. Tomatoes of Love

"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my flower garden"~ Alfred Lord Tennyson

Spain, Barcelona, Park Guell.

"This is looking like a fairytale town," Akane smiled as she looked at the multi coloured, inviting Park Guell in Barcelona, Spain.

The park system of Guell was composed of gardens and architectonic elements located on Carmel hill in Barcelona, Catalonia. The hill belonged to the mountain range of Collserola.

"This park was built by Antonio Gaudi," the guide said as they entered the unbelievably coloured park. A multi-coloured sculpture of a salamander welcomed them at the entrance.

Park Guell was a strangely enchanting place where even artificial things looked more real than the actual natural ones. The park consisted of small buildings with shaped roofs, was laced with pathways, bird nests and beautiful trees. Most of the park was wooded.

They walked around admiring the beauty of the place when Agnes spoke out, "Hey! I have an idea"

"There she goes again," three of them said in unison.

"Let's play hide and seek! I mean, this place is perfect!" Agnes smiled.

They looked at her and laughed, nodding.

"Sssh..He'll find us," whispered Agnes.

The three of them were hiding in one of the roofed houses there, peeking out a little to get a glance of Jason who was moving about looking for them.

"Hey Agnesss?" Takumi sang.

"Yeah?"

"Do you know I have a loud voice?"

"Yeah," she replied. Then, she looked at him. "Don't open. Your. Mouth"

He grinned. "JASON! SHE'S HERE! HERE!"

"That's cheating!" Agnes said, running from behind.

"HEY! SHE'S RUNNING AWAY!"

Agnes fled out into the wooded region, panting. There was no way she was losing now. She looked at a tree and smirked. Then, she climbed it slowly, sitting on one of the branches and getting a view of them.

"She ran away," Takumi said, shaking his head.

"Yeah, and you got us caught. Nitwit," Akane responded shaking her head at him.

Jason laughed. "Now we have to find Agnes.. hmm.."

"Please sir, try and understand," Agnes pleaded to the man.

"You are not allowed to sit on trees mam!"

"Oh God, just wait for some time! I need to win this"

"Look mam--"

She sighed.

"PEEK A BOO! GOT HER!"Takumi laughed.

Jason laughed. "Sorry, Cherry! You are caught!"

Agnes jumped from the tree.

"Ouch," she said, landing right on top of Jason. "Oh fish. Sorry!"

Jason rubbed his head as he lay on the ground with Agnes getting up from him.

"I'm so sorry!"

"My my, see brother? They really can't control. Even their stars make them fall on each other," Akane joked. Takumi burst out laughing.

Agnes and Jason looked at one another and then at them. How can someone tease you to that extent? God save us.

"MR. LECTURER!" Agnes shouted to a reading Jason. "Go get ready!"

"What for?"

"What for?" Akane, Takumi and Agnes shouted in surprise. "IT'S LA TOMATINA!"

La Tomatina was a festival that was held in Valencian town of Bunol, a town in eastern Spain. It was a festival which included a food fight purely for entertainment purposes. It was celebrated in the last week of August.

"Okay people," the guide instructed. "There are for simple rules before we begin.

First, tomatoes have to be squashed before throwing. We do not want anyone to get hurt, now, do we?

Second, nothing except tomatoes are allowed. No potatoes, no onions, " the crowd laughed. "Third, you have to make way for the trucks and lorries.

And fourth, after the second shot indicative of the tomato hurl, no tomatoes should be thrown.

Now, LET LA TOMATINA BEGIN!"

The crowd screamed and laughed as they ran towards the cobblestone street. Agnes held Jason's hand who clasped it and ran. Akane and Takumi smashed the tomatoes.

"Ouch!" Takumi screamed. "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SMASH THEM BEFORE THROWING AGNES! I'LL COMPLAIN ABOUT YOU!"

Agnes laughed. "Yeah! Welcome to high school!"

He rolled his eyes and threw the tomato at her. "Ouch!"

"See? It HURTS!"

Jason and Akane laughed. They had never seen something so insane and yet enjoyable. There were thousands of people with hardly any space to move about. People were falling on each other, all red with the squashed tomatoes and were laughing their lungs out. The scene was pure delight and Agnes was positive that it was one of the best places to look at the beauty of smiles. Yes, the sound of laughter was perhaps the best melodies the four of them had ever heard. They smiled.

"MAKE WAY! LORRIES ON THE WAY!" people screamed. They moved about, falling on one another.

Akane squashed tomatoes and threw them at Agnes. She ducked as they landed on Jason's hair. He took three tomatoes, squashed them and threw it at Takumi. It went flying and landed on someone's eyes.

"Didn't know your aim was that bad," Agnes whispered.

Jason shook his head. "It's worse"

Agnes, Akane and Takumi laughed.

"Come on, Agnes!" Takumi and Akane held out a hand from the lorry filled with tomatoes.

"I'm slipping! " Agnes complained.

Jason pushed her lightly from behind. "There you go"

"Thanks"

"Ahem ahem," Akane and Takumi smirked. "Tomatoes here, tomatoes there, Agnes and Jason are in there.. Love is in the air!"

"You both need to learn one thing," Agnes gritted her teeth.

"What?"

"The art of keeping quiet!"

They gwaffed in laughter. Jason climbed up, smiling at his two best friends.

Tomatoes flew everywhere, it was raining tomatoes. Everything was red, everyone was red.

"Do you like sliding?" Takumi whispered to Agnes.

"Yeah, why?" she asked. Then she looked up at him. "NO! NO I DON'T"

But it was too late. Takumi pushed her from behind with Jason.

"AAAAAAHHHHH!" she screamed her lungs out as she splashed into a pool of red water. Jason and Agnes bumped their heads, rubbing it. Akane and Takumi slid from behind, falling on the both of them.

"Just what were you thinking?!" Akane hit her brother.

He grinned. "Accept it, it was fun"

"Yeah fun enough for my bottom to pain!" Akane said, rolling her eyes.

Agnes and Jason burst into peals of laughter. La Tomatina was a whole lot of fun!

"CLEAN UP TIME!" the instructor shouted. Water burst out from the pipes and lorries, carrying the squashed tomatoes to the corner of the road, making the cobblestone streets look fresh and clean. The people looked at one another.

They looked terrifyingly crazy, tomatoes soaking their clothes and hair, and yet they laughed. It had been so much fun, they didn't want it to end. They washed themselves from the pipes.

"Ugh! Cons of being short," Agnes complained as the crowd towered in front of her, not letting the water reach her. Jason laughed.

Then, much to Agnes' pleasant surprise, he picked her up gently and swayed her around in the air. She laughed as the water gently washed her skin. Jason smiled looking at her pleasant face, praying inside that she never loses it.

Because, his Cherry looked best when she was smiling.

And finally like the sun rises to mark a new day, her life took a new turn.

Finally she learnt how to live. Finally she learnt how to laugh. Finally she learnt how to survive.

But most of all, she learnt how to love.

Jason closed Agnes' hand written book with a wide smile on his handsome face.

"This is unbelievable," he said.

"Thank you"

"Anyone would fall in love with your books, you know"

"Thank you, Jason. They're just parts of me.. Scattered in the qualities of the different characters..," she admitted, scratching her head lightly.

He smiled. "That means only one thing, Agnes"

"Mhm?"

"Perhaps, then, anyone would fall for you"
