Epilogue

“I only want to talk to you baby.”

“I don't.”

Hayden catches up with me before I can slide into my Porsche. “I'm sorry.”

There.

The face I fell in love with from some T.V comercial.

But not any longer.

“Hayden, I don't care if you're sorry or not.” I state, smacking my lips for effect. He takes a step forward and I hold out a finger.

“Uh, uh, don't come any more closer.”

His countenance dips. “Mira...”.

“Don't contact me ever again.”I turn, not caring if my hair smacks him in the face.

As I slide into my seat, I inwardly curse the receptionist for letting him into my safe space.

I think I might need to burn some sage with all the negative energy.

Ignoring his knocks on my window, I back away from the parking lot.

“Message from Keen.”My Goggle assistant announces.

“Hey, where are you?”

Keen and I were supposed to meet an investor later this evening. But with the way things played out today, I think I'll use a dip in my jacuzzi and a massage.

“I just hit the road. I'll be with you in fifteen.”I respond.

“I'll save a seat for you.”

“You better.”

The line goes off and  I tune in to a local radio station that plays good music on Thursday afternoons.

Ribs n Sticks.

One my favourite places to eat at. Keen knows how much I fancy a good meal, the one that leaves you unable to walk there after.

Well, I had to look past their slow ass customer service on my first day. It was worth it. Plus I made a new friend here. Kendra.

“Uuuuh, someone's looking mighty fine this afternoon.”Said person comes around my car as I step out of it.

I grin. “You know you tripping, girl.”

She hugs me and I relax into her arms, relishing the scent of spices. “I ain't tripping, girl. Who got you all dressed up”

“I'm meeting some clients here.” I lock up my car and with my fancy Louis Vuitton handbag, make the short trip into the shop, parting ways with Kendra.

Keen's on table 9, looking all fine, hence the looks some girls on table 6 are flashing him.

He looks up from his phone the moment I'm seated across him. “Hey. What took you so long?”

“I ran into an ex?”

He frowns. “How many exes do you have? I thought it was just Hayden.”

I kiss my teeth, suddenly regretting why I told him it was just Hayden I've dated in my life.

“Whatever. So, he held me up. Why haven't you ordered?” I ask, tapping on the lemon green table with fancy flowers at the center.

“Dunno. Your preferences switch up everyday.”He jokes.

“I'm tempted to hit you with this menu book.”I flash my teeth at him, looking at the available meals.

He chuckles. “When did you get so feisty?”

Truth is I've always been feisty as a child but along the way, life happened and snatched away some of my self-esteem.

“Is this seat taken.”

“Yes it is.”I respond without taking my eyes off the menu book.

Like who on earth would come to an already occupied table uninvited.

“Mira.”Keen taps on my knee forcing me to abandon the menu. Looking up, a scowl automatically mars my countenance.

“You.”I've been trying to reach you sis. What's up?”

Fancy like she always is. At six foot stands my biological sister, Cary. Same person who called me a tramp after I lost my job and ex-boyfriend.

Cary Hopkins.

“Are you not gonna say anything?” She says, smiling in a way I consider offensive.

Why does she think she can come over here and smile like nothing happened?

“What do you want me to say? Hey Sis, thanks for calling me a tramp eight months ago. I love you so much, you're the best.”Sarcasm drips from every word I utter.

Wincing, she digs in her purse, bringing out a hanky. “Look, sis. I'm sorry. I made a terrible mistake.”

“You had two days to fix up your mistake, Carysa. Why today?”I scoff, grabbing my things and shoving my seat back, not minding the stares I earn.

“Keen. I'm out of here.

Kendra intervenes. “That won't be necessary. Please, I'm gonna ask you to leave, you're distressing our customers.” She tells Cary who sobs like the pretentious snake she is.

While the staff handle my sister, I escape to the female  bathroom, breathing in and out whilst staring at the mirror.

4:30p.m
same day

“Remind me to get some sage at the store.”I tell Keen while he drives us home.

He chuckles. “What for?”

“To ward off some demons from re-entering my life.”I laugh, pressing my face against the tinted glass.

Well, he had someone drive my car to his apartment because I was in no condition to drive myself alone.

“Do you want ice-cream?”I  can feel his eyes on my face but I refuse to look.

“Watch the road, Keen.”

He complies. “Ice-cream?”

I mumble out a positive response, smiling when he does.

So, that's it.

Ice-cream, movies, art, Keen...

I could never have asked for more.
