Chapter 40. Trepanation

“You did what?!” I hissed to my boyfriend. He had pulled me to the side in the common area, telling me that after he left Morrell’s office he went to the basement— because apparently he had been there in his dream that night he went missing. Apparently the only person that has keys to the basement, is Brunski, yes the Orderly that hates us. Oliver informed him about that little issue. So, Stiles then went to the boys room to take one of those pills and guess who was taking a shower?

Malia.

In the boys room.

He saw her naked, well according to him he didn’t see anything because of the steam, but whatever— I don’t have time to be jealous. Last time I let jealousy take over I almost punched his childhood friend in the mouth at her birthday party.

Anyway, Stiles enlisted Malia’s help. She wanted to be able to turn back into a werecoyote for some reason, and he assumed that Scott would be able to help her do just that. So in exchange for her help to get the keys from Brunski, he offered up Scott’s teaching.

It didn’t sound like a good idea, but Stiles thinks there are answers in that basement. And he wasn't going to give up until he got down there.

Stiles glanced over his shoulder as Malia made her way towards Oliver. I have no idea what the plan they put into action was, but it was making me nervous. “She’s going to help us, Kasey, trust me okay? I need to get down there.”

“I do trust you,” I mumbled, my eyes narrowing on Malia, “it’s her that I don’t trust.”

Before Stiles could respond, Oliver shoved Malia to the ground. He was calling her a liar as he grabbed her wrist and pinned them to the floor. She was brave, I’ll give her that much.

“What the hell’s going on?!” Brunski shouted as he ran over to the fight. Two other orderly's snatched up Oliver and hoisted him off of Malia.

“Get this nut job off of me!” she shrieked.

Oliver was shaking like a crazy person, a literal crazy person, “No! She said that they drill holes in your head. She said they’re gonna put a hole in my head! Please, come on! Please don’t drill a hole in my head.”

“Is he in on this?” I asked quickly.

Stiles nodded and made his way to Malia, I saw her slip a set of keys into his hands. Wow, that actually worked exceptionally well. How did she manage to swipe those from him?

“You okay?” he asked her as his eyes followed after Brunski.

She sighed, “Yeah.”

I gritted my teeth as she held onto his arm. I was so not a fan of Malia, and I planned on letting Stiles’ know that we can’t trust her.

☾  ☾   ☽  ☽

“This is a bad idea… shouldn’t we do this when there are less staff here?” I whispered. Stiles was standing by the door to the basement, the hallway empty behind us. He was fumbling with the keys trying to find the correct one to use.

He let out a groan, “It’s fine. Where the hell is this damn key?”

“Stiles, maybe we should come back. I have a really bad—“ I didn’t get to finish my sentence because a set of hands grabbed me by the back of my neck and shoulder.

Another orderely grabbed a hold of Stiles and snatched the keys out of his hands, “I told you two that this wasn’t over.”

Brunski. Well shit. He slid the keys into his pocket as he led Stiles and I down the hall. The orderly that had me was being extremely rough, and I could feel my skin starting to bruise already.

“You two just keep causing problems,” Brunski chuckled as he led us down the corridor. Stiles glanced at me nervously, obviously this wasn’t a part of his plan. I mean, I would hope that getting caught was something he thought about— but I guess not. He was more worried about getting into the damn basement.

The hallway we turned down had doors with bars on the windows. It looked like something out of a horror movie. Was this the closed unit? Or somewhere extremely close to it? Another set of orderly’s were waiting in front of the two doors that sat opposite of each other.

This wasn’t right. This was planned.

“Wait a minute, wait—“ I was starting to panic. the door slid open and I was shoved into the room.

It was solid white. The floor was tiled, and it was the most uncomfortable thing I have seen. It reminded me of a hospital, but without the bed. Three people slipped into my room, Brunski was one of them.

I could hear Stiles’ screaming in the other room before he stopped and the door slammed shut.

Brunski walked over to me while the two orderly’s held each of my arms, making it damn near impossible to move. He slipped his hand in the pocket of my pants, pulling out a handful of white tablets.

Wait a second. Those aren’t mine. I didn’t put those there.

“Look at what we have here… wanna tell me where you swiped these from?” he asked with a smirk. It was as if he knew the pills would be there. I don’t know how he would know that, because I didn’t put them there.

My eyes widened considerably, “I have no idea where those came from. You have to believe me when I tell you that I didn’t put them there.”

“I have been informed by a respected official that she saw you swipe them from her office.” Brunski said as he pulled a syringe out of his pocket.

Oh my God.

Morrell set me up. The bitch set me up! She told me that I had to stay awake! If I fall asleep the Nogitsune can get me, well if I open the door… but I can’t open the door. Why else would she do this? Why would she lie—

Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no!

The Oni. It’s not inside of me anymore. When I threw up that firefly, it left. I somehow got it out. That’s why my Admonere abilities have been working. The Oni hasn’t been inside of me and she did this so it can come back. I haven’t slept since that day and that’s why the Oni hasn’t got control yet. It hasn’t slipped back in while I was vulnerable.

She did this so the Nogitsune couldn’t get in. She’s been working against me this entire time. Deaton has too. He knew this was going to happen. He set me up. They both set me up!

“Let’s give this little troublemaker five of the Haldol.” Brunski snickered as he walked towards me.

I started squirming around in the orderly’s tight grips, “Wait. What is that? Is that a sedative? Wait! Stop! No, no, no. I can’t sleep. Please!” I screamed as the needle hovered above the skin of my thigh.

“I have to stay awake! Stop! Get off of me!” I was thrashing around wildly and they had to hold my mid-section to steady my body so Brunski could stick the sedative inside of me. As soon as it was pushed in, I could feel it’s effects instantly.

My eyelids felt heavy as my body fell to the floor. I tried to stay on my hands and knees but it wasn’t working, “I can’t— I can’t sleep…” my words were slurred as I fell onto my stomach, my face pressing into the tile.

“Sweet dreams,” Brunski chuckled as he closed the door. My eyelids snapped shut, and I was pulled back into my nightmares.

☾  ☾   ☽  ☽

My eyes snapped open and my body flew up into a sitting position, sucking in a breath as I took in my surroundings— I was laying on the floor in some sort-of basement. I went to rub at my face, but I found that my hand was cuffed to a pipe.

Panic started to seep into my bloodstream as I heard footsteps echoing around the dark room.

I swallowed thickly, “Who’s there? Who are you?”

A voice started speaking in Japanese, and I could feel my eyes welling with tears as I was prevented from trying to block it out. I’ve heard so many whispers of this language, of these words, in my mind and they’re coming back. I can’t escape them.

“What?” I whimpered, praying that the language would change. Praying that the words would suddenly make sense and not leave me feeling like I’m missing so many pieces to this complicated puzzle.

The voice continued and I hung my head as my shoulders shook from the nervous tears I was shedding. I’m helpless. I can’t move— I can’t understand what this person is saying to me— I’m stuck.

I’m being held prisoner in my own mind and I don’t have the means for an escape.

“I don’t… I don’t understand.” I breathed out shakily, tugging on the chain that my wrist was locked in. The metal was rusty, looking as if it could break if I pulled hard enough.

The voice suddenly began to speak English, “Not who are you, Kasey. Who are we. You’re running out of time, Kasey. Did you notice that we have the headaches again? Do you know why that’s a bad sign?”

My eyes scanned the large basement, searching through the pipes and pillars in the dim light coming form the holes in the ceiling. The Nogitsune was walking in circles around the area— waiting and taunting me.

“It means the Oni’s gone… completely gone.” I choked out, pulling my free hand up to my mouth. This plan that Morrell had, to knock me out so the Oni could get back in obviously backfired.

The Nogitsune let out a breathy sigh, “And you know that means I am coming for you now, Kasey… Stiles is starting to worry, starting to think that it would be better if he let me back in. He’s going to die if you don’t let me in.”

“How do you expect me to let you in! I don’t know what the hell to do!” I shouted, my adrenaline and panic fueling my momentary rage.

He chuckled, “You know more than you think you do…”

“I can’t— I can’t even get out of my own head…” I breathed out shakily, my head dropping down as the pain he had hinted at started up in the back of my head again.

The lighting in the room brightened a fraction, and I could see more of the room now. I could see him. He was standing a few feet away, watching me as I sat here, crumpled and broken on the floor.

“We are trying to save him, Kasey.” he said after a moment.

My head shot up, “Stop saying that! Stop saying ‘we’!”

“You better get up, Kasey. You better get up and go to him, before it’s too late.” he was mocking me. I could hear it in his voice.

My blood was boiling as I narrowed my eyes, “How! How can I do anything when I’m handcuffed to a pipe!” I screamed, my throat was burning from the volume of my voice.

“Are you?” he countered.

I was about to start screaming at him again when I looked down and found that the handcuff had switched hands, it had been on my right… but now it was on my left. How is that even possible?

“Notice something different?” he asked in amusement, “It was on your right hand before, wasn’t it?”

“No… I—“ my voice fell flat as I realized that he was messing with me once again. He was playing a game that I couldn’t keep up with.

He chuckled, “Are you sure?”

“What is this?” I asked as I looked over at him, “What are you doing?”

“We’re trying to save help you save Stiles. We’re trying to help you save his life.” he said as he turned to face me. His eyes weren’t visible, nothing on his face was— apart from his mouth and the razor sharp teeth he had.

I pushed myself back farther against the wall, trying to put as much distance between us as I could. I watched him as he walked over towards the wall, pulling a piece of chalk out of his pocket as he drew a backwards 5. What is that?

“You don’t understand, do you? It’s a riddle… do you know any riddles, Kasey?” he asked me, not bothering to turn away from the wall.

My eyes squeezed shut momentarily, “I guess I know a few.”

“What gets bigger the more you take away?” he asked, standing up from the wall and walking around once again.

I let out a shaky breath, “A hole.”

“What gets wetter the more it dries?” he continued.

“A towel,” I sniffled. My nose was running and my eyes were watering. This was all too familiar. This is what happened to Stiles that night— he was in a basement, he was being held against his will in his mind by the Nogitsune.

Why is this happening to me?

“When is a door not a door?”

My heart stopped. Not this again. No, no, no. I can’t. I can’t do this again. I can’t go through this door shit. I don’t know how it works, I don’t know how to control it— I don’t want these nightmares again. I don’t want these hallucinations and the sleep walking and the never ending, crushing fear and anxiety that opening the door will bring.

“When it’s ajar,” I whispered. Remembering the riddle that Stiles had seen in his own hallucination. The riddle has always been there— the riddle has been here and it’s back. It’s never going to go away, just like the Nogitsune.

It’s never going to leave me alone.

“Everyone has it, but no one can lose it. What is it?” the Nogitsune asked as he pressed the palm of his hand against the backwards 5.

The word “self” echoed around in the back of my head in Stiles’ voice as I looked at the backwards 5. I have no idea what that means, or why I’m hearing Stiles saying but it has to be important.

“I don’t… I don’t know…” I stammered, trying to rack my brain for an answer. I’ve heard this riddle before. I’ve heard it somewhere, I just can't remember where.

The Nogitsune stood up and walked towards me, causing the wheels in my head to spin faster, trying to find the answer to the riddle.

“What is it, Kasey?” he was getting closer and closer and my heart was beating faster and faster and I couldn’t think, I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t do anything other than to just sit there and let the anxiety take over once again.

“Everyone has it… but no one can lose it… think! Think, Kasey!” he then started screaming in Japanese and I couldn’t figure out what he was saying again.

He appeared in front of me and before I could turn my head he shouted, “LET ME IN!”

“I can’t!” I protested weakly. I then watched in confusion as he snapped the chain of the cuffs and latched his fingers around my ankle before he started dragging me across the cement floor.

My arms were reaching for anything to try and stop him, and I was screaming as loud as I possibly could. It was getting darker and I couldn’t see anything. I was slipping— the door was opening and he was getting close to getting in. And there wasn’t a single thing I could do about it.

“NO! NO STOP! DON’T!” I was screaming myself out of the dream. I could feel hands on me, a pair of hands that were shaking my shoulders violently.

“Kasey! Kasey, stop! Be quiet!” Malia hissed.

My eyes focussed on the room, it was just Malia and I. The white tile walls and floor slowly calmed me down, I wasn’t in the basement. I wasn’t with the Nogitsune. I was dreaming. I was dreaming and he had gotten into my head.

I let out a sigh and blinked a few times, “How did you get in here?”

“I broke the lock. If I concentrate I can be pretty strong.” she said as she glanced over her shoulder. My eyes followed and I saw that the door to Stiles’ room was still closed.

No. No, no, no. She needed to wake him up first.

I pushed myself off the floor and struggled to stand, “We need to get Stiles. We have to go— we have to—“ the room started to spin and I nearly collapsed. Malia grabbed a hold of me quickly, preventing me from hitting the floor.

“Are you okay?” she asked skeptically.

Instead of telling her the truth, I nodded once and led the way towards Stiles’ room. I watched Malia grab the handle and snap it off, just like Scott did that night we broke into The Jungle last year.

Stiles was on the floor, his face contorted in pain, his hands balled up into small fists. I fell beside him, me knees hitting the floor forcefully. I braced his shoulders and shook him, he started screaming again, much like the night in the woods.

“NO! NO, STOP, PLEASE! LEAVE HER ALONE!”

Malia slid into the room and started shaking him as well, “Stiles! Shut up!”

His eyes snapped open and he sat up with a gasp, his eyes locked in on my face. Taking in every inch as they darted around. After he convinced himself this was real he let out a sigh and grabbed me, pulling me into his chest.

“How did you get in here?” he breathed out shakily.

Malia quirked an eyebrow, “I broke the lock. When you two didn’t come back, I figured you got caught.”

“It was a set-up,” I said to Stiles. I didn’t really care about Malia being involved in the plan anymore. I appreciate her waking me up, but she’s not getting involved with the real plan here.

He pulled his head back in confusion, “What?”

“Morrell, she planted pills on me, then told Brunski that I stole them so they would knock me out. I think she was trying to let the Oni get back in while I was asleep… he got in my head though, he was pissed. He wants me, Stiles— and he’s using you to get to me.” I explained. I knew he would pick up on who the “he” I was referring to was.

Stiles was silent for a moment before he let out a sigh, “I know. He told me— he told me that he was in your head too. I guess it’s true then. Kasey, he also told me that as long as that Oni is inside of you, he can’t get in. Morrell was just trying to keep you safe.”

“Yeah, but now you’re ripe for the picking and if you think I’m going to let you just be the pawn in all of this then you really have lost your damn mind.” I snapped.

I don’t understand why it’s okay for him to be at risk if I was okay, but when I try to be put at risk to ensure he’s okay, it’s a totally different ballgame.

“Anyway,” Malia said awkwardly, “there’s another way to the basement. Through the closed unit. Where they keep the real psycho’s.”

☾  ☾   ☽  ☽

“I’m going to keep watch, in case Brunski comes back…” Malia said as she pushed the door to the basement open. I glanced around and felt my stomach drop— this is where I had been in the dream. He brought me here.

Stiles nodded, “That’s actually really helpful, thank you.”

“Yeah,” she breathed out awkwardly, “don’t mention it. Just, be careful and try not to make too much noise, okay?”

We both gave her a sarcastic thumbs up and she rolled her eyes before walking back out into the hallway, closing the door behind her.

I glanced at Stiles, “So… what exactly are you looking for?”

“Something to do with that,” he stated as he pointed to the wall behind me. I spun around and gasped when I saw the backwards 5 on the wall. It wasn’t in white chalk like it had been in my dream, it looked like it had been carved into the cement wall.

My eyes widened, “Self.”

“What?” Stiles asked as he glanced at me in confusion, “How did you… how did you know that?”

I blinked nervously, “I heard you say it— when Brunski gave me that sedative, he got into my head. He brought my here, he was saying all of these riddles and I—I didn’t know what it meant and it was freaking me out. But this was here, and I heard you say “Self” in the back of my mind as he was drawing it on the wall.”

“Kasey… that’s exactly what happened the night you found me. That’s literally the exact same dream I had.” Stiles breathed out, running his hand through his hair.

This sort-of thing has happened once before… the night that I had the dream, well I guess it wasn’t a dream because it actually happened, but the night that Noshiko had called me and put the Oni inside of me. Stiles had a dream about the Nemeton, and I was actually there.

I have a feeling it was a connection between the two of us… with the Nogitsune. He wouldn’t have done that if it didn’t mean something. The question was… what did it mean?

☾  ☾   ☽  ☽

“This place definitely used to be a lot more fun.” I mused as I shifted through the records of Eichan House.

There were several boxes stacked in the corner, and we decided to start our investigation there. It felt normal to be sitting on the couch beside Stiles, looking for clues through papers—rather than looking for clues from our dreams and weird behavior.

I whistled under my breath, “Electroshock, ice baths, and Trepanation? I have no idea what that is but it sounds awful.”

“That’s what Oliver was talking about. Trepanation is when they drill into your head.” Stiles said, his eyes watching me intently, making sure he wasn’t saying anything that would freak me out further.

I rose an eyebrow, “Now I see why they don’t let people down here.” I mumbled before tossing the papers into the pile that was scattered on the floor.

Stiles let out a heavy sigh,” There’s nothing here. Could you do me a favor? Can you just check the lines on my back? Make sure they’re still there?”

I nodded, “Yeah, here turn around—“ I instructed as he swiveled his body on the couch. I grabbed at the hem of his shirt and lifted it up slowly, my heart stopped as I lifted it up to his neck.

“They’re almost gone.”

He nodded slowly and spun back around, resting his elbows on his knees.

“Stiles, you’re going to be okay…” I said softly. I didn’t want to lie to him, but I had to say something to make him feel better. He was freaking out.

We were both silent for a moment, just letting the weight of the situation settle down on us. The basement was an awful place. I didn’t like the way I felt down here. I didn’t like the way that Stiles was feeling down here.

I gently cupped Stiles’ face in my hands, “Hey look at me—“ I whispered as he slowly lifted his gaze from the floor, “you’re going to be okay. I promise.”

“Kasey… I’m not letting him take you.” he whispered back before he moved his face closer to mine, his lips landed on mine with a sigh and I could feel my heart skyrocket out of the basement.

He knew what he was doing— he was learning how to control me, using his lips as the expert negotiators that they are to get me to agree with him.

Not this time, but I wasn’t going to let this moment go to waste.

He pulled back for a moment and rose an eyebrow, “This is our first kiss without either one of us being possessed by something.”

“Is it?” I asked with a laugh. Even though the situation was anything but funny.

Stiles’ face went slack, “When we… when we— uh… he was there… when we— you know.”

“I know. I thought about it last night. He was pushing us both to do it, whispering in our ears about wanting to have sex— I’m not saying that I didn’t want to, believe me I did, but he wanted us to do it too… because when I connected myself to you it made it easier for him to get access to me… he didn’t know I had the Oni with me though, Noshiko thought ahead and prevented him from getting in my head.” I explained my breakthrough I had made.

Stiles was silent as he let that sink in. I was proud of myself for figuring this out. I was starting to figure a lot of things out, actually. I was able to make plans from these breakthroughs as well.

“Kasey, I’m so sorry— I didn’t mean for that to happen… I—“ My lips pressed against his to silence him. He doesn’t need to apologize for something that isn’t his fault. This isn’t anyone’s fault.

Well… maybe Jennifer can take some of the blame. Deucalion too.

We broke apart and he pressed his forehead against mine, “I love you.”

“I love you,” I whispered. This was our moment. It was us, just us, and it felt magical. It felt wonderful and perfect and happy and safe. I felt safe with him, even though I should feel the exact opposite.

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into an embrace. I rested my chin on his shoulder, the backwards five staring back at me. Why is that even on the damn wall in the first place?

Why would—

“Stiles.” I rushed out before I pushed myself off of the couch, slipping on some papers as I tried to get to the wall. Stiles scrambled after me in a panic, not really knowing what was going on.

I crouched down in front of the wall and traced my fingers over the five before knocking on the wall. It echoed and anyone could tell that it wasn’t solid concrete— there was something behind the five.

Self.

“Stiles, get something— something to break through the wall with.” I said quickly.

He spun around and searched for something—anything that could be of use. His eyes landed on a loose pipe and he started wailing on the wall. Taking all of his anger out as he broke through the wood.

I gasped when I saw a body, hidden behind the wall.

“This is him.” he breathed out.

I reached into the hole and went straight for the small bag that was on the ground beside him. I flipped it open and pulled out an aged photograph. I couldn’t see who was in it until I pulled it out and squinted my eyes.

“Holy shit… Stiles, we have to get this to Scott.” I said quickly as I handed the picture to him. The photo was of Kira, or well— maybe it was her family member that happened to look exactly like her, and she was with someone.

Stiles took the photo and looked at it with wide eyes, “Oh my—“

Static and buzzing and then Stiles crying out in pain filled the basement. I spun around in confusion and panic. I stood up with wide eyes when I saw Oliver standing over Stiles, holding a taser in his hand.

“You took Brunski’s keys. I took his stun gun.” Oliver said.

Stiles eyes widened as Oliver advanced on me, “Ol—Oliver st—stop,”

It was too late, Oliver had already stuck me in the side. I could feel the nerves in my body start to fry as I slid to the floor, my body convulsing on the way there.

Oliver crouched down beside Stiles, “I also got his Haldol, but I used that on Malia.”

“Like I was saying, Stiles… I heard they used to do Trepanation here.” Oliver said as he spun around. I then saw Malia, unconsciousness and strapped into a wheelchair. How did we not here him come in?

I couldn’t stop shaking, and my shaking only got worse when I watched Oliver pick up a drill.

“Oliver—Oliver what are you doing?” Stiles’ asked weakly, his body shaking as well.

“I’m going to let the evil spirits out.” He said as he turned on the drill.

☾  ☾   ☽  ☽

“I borrowed a few pointers from the five-point restraint.” Oliver said to me as he fastened my wrist in the strap on the chair.

He had managed to get Stiles and I both into a chair and strapped in while we were still out of it from the electric running through our bodies. Malia was still knocked out, she didn’t appear to be waking up anytime soon either.

“Oliver, stop this.” Stiles protested from behind him. He had spaced us pretty far apart from each other, but of course I was right next to Malia.

I winced as Oliver started to cough manically again, he held his hand up to his mouth and screwed his eyes shut— the cough was causing him pain. When he pulled his hand back and revealed it to us, I let out a sigh.

Blood and a dead fly.

I knew it.

Oliver smirked at me, “He said you were suspicious of me.”

“Oliver listen to me. Oliver stop! Oliver!” Stiles shouted as he turned on the drill and angled it right by Malia’s head.

Honestly, would the world be such a bad place without her? I can’t let her die though, not because of me anyway. Even though I don’t like her, that doesn’t mean I can let her die.

“Wait!” I screamed.

He then decided to make himself known as he walked up behind Stiles, “Start with Stiles.” he said.

Stiles and I both froze.

What? No. No, no, no.

Oliver spun on his heel and made his way towards Stiles. My eyes widened as the Nogitsune peeked out from behind a pipe, “You did this? You got into his head…” I said quickly.

The Nogitsune grabbed onto the pipe, “Every Dracula needs a Renfield.”

“Just let him go.” I panicked as I watched Oliver start up the drill, teasing Stiles and making him struggle even more.

“Let me in, Kasey. Do you want him to leave here alive? Do you want us to leave? We can walk out of this place..” he tutted, walking around behind Stiles.

I rolled my head back and let the tears start to fall, there was no use in trying to hold them back, “Just let him go, please.”

“Let me in,” he said as he appeared beside me, his fingers curling around the top of my chair.

I let out a scream as I tried to break free from the restraints. Stiles was struggling, Oliver was grinning as he positioned the drill beside his head, and the Nogtisune was losing his patience.

“Let me in, Kasey! Let me in!” he screamed, it was so loud my ears started ringing and my chest felt as if it were about to cave in.

The whirring of the drill struck a chord in my head and I tried to fling myself forward, “JUST LET HIM GO, PLEASE!”

Oliver was holding Stiles’ head still as he started to slowly descend the drill towards his temple. “KASEY DON’T DO IT!” Stiles yelled out, already sensing what was about to happen.

“Let me in, Kasey! Let me in and I’ll let him live. Let. Me. In.”

I squeezed my eyes shut as I tried to open the door. I have no clue what the hell I’m even doing, I don’t know how to let him in. I don’t know what to think or how to think it. I’m lost, completely and utterly lost.

“Oliver.”

My eyes snapped open at the sound of Stiles’ voice, the drill had stopped. The voice sounded different… but familiar at the same time.

No.

Stiles was rubbing at his wrist before he punched Oliver in the face, knocking him out cold. My eyes widened as he looked up at me, a twisted smirk on his face.

“I told you to let me in…” he said with a shake of his head.

He walked over to me and crouched down, placing his hand on my thigh. I couldn’t move, I was still stuck in this chair.

“I—I don’t understand… I was going to, I was trying—“ I stammered in confusion. What went wrong?

He sighed, “There is a barrier in your mind… Noshiko put it there. I couldn’t get in, it’s a good thing that Stiles was open to letting me back in. All to keep his precious Kasey safe.”

“A barrier?” I squeaked.

Stiles, well the Nogitsune, nodded, “The barrier is something that only the master of the Oni can break. I’m going to break it, and then you’re mine sweetheart.”

“Please, just let him go… he has nothing to do with any of this. It’s me you want, not him.” I pleaded, my wrist jerking on the restraints again.

He chuckled, “Do you know the answer to our riddle yet?”

“Screw you and your stupid riddles, okay? Just let him go.” I snapped, suddenly feeling bold. The Nogitsune wasn’t as scary when he was inside of Stiles.

He was silent for a moment before he pushed himself up into a standing position, “I’ll let him go when you can let me in.”

_________________________________________________________________________________

This was one of my favorite chapters to write, mainly because of the dream Kasey had... if you didn't pick up on it, the scene was pretty much the EXACT same scene that Stiles had in Riddled. Dylan's acting in that sequence was brilliant and I have been wanting to write about it since the episode aired so yeah, Kasey went through it.

Were you surprised by the whole Morrell plan that she did behing Kasey's back? The plan that kind of sort-of backfired. What was supposed to happen was that the Oni would get back inside of Kasey while she was vulnerable... the thing is Morrell forgot that the Oni aren't that fond of coming to Eichan House. (Deaton explained that to Argent over the phone in the beginning of this episode) Deaton thought that Morrell would advise Kasey like she would Stiles... which is why he pushed for her to go there. Morrell acted on her own, trying to keep the Nogitsune from getting inside of Kasey.
