NAVYA HERNANDEZ never meant to hurt anyone. It all happened so fast. One moment, she was quietly stacking blocks in the playroom, and the next, she was standing over a body—Cosmo Thomas, the meanest kid of the group—his blood staining the block she was holding. She didn't even realize he was dead at first. She didn't mean for it to happen.

Before she could even process what she had done, they took her. She was thrown into confinement with a girl she didn't know. At just five years old, Navya had no idea what was happening or what would come next. All she knew was that she'd be stuck in the Skybox, a prison in space, until she turned eighteen. And then, they'd float her. They'd send her into space to be erased, wiped from existence.

Years passed. Time blurred in the Skybox, but something good came out of it: Charlotte. The girl who'd become her friend. They were inseparable. Forced together in that tiny, suffocating space, day after day. They didn't have much else but each other. Stories, made-up or real, classes, conversations—they did everything together, whether they wanted to or not. They had to. They were stuck.

Navya always thought Charlotte was a little... odd. But then again, weren't they all? They were in prison. They'd all done something—something bad. But no one judged. Not really. They were all waiting for the same thing: the end. The float.

So, imagine Navya's shock when she was thrown into a dropship, only to learn that she and ninety-nine other delinquents were being sent to Earth.

The very Earth humanity had fled after the nuclear apocalypse. The radiation had gotten so bad that survival was impossible.

Ninety-seven years. That's how long humanity had been up in space.

And now, a hundred of them were going back down.
