Enough

Every morning, for months on end, Hermione received a small roll of parchment, with a sweet little note on it. Every morning at breakfast, poor Errol would swoop down on the table with her note.

She would feed him until he got enough courage to go fly back out to the Burrow, but he always had a note from Ron. Sometimes it would be for other people as well. But there was always a note from Ron.

Until March 14.

There was no letter on March 14. No Errol crashing into everything in his path. No scribbled ink on fresh parchment. No smile, no laugh, from a few simple words to make her day.

It was on Friday. Hermione was sitting in Transfiguration class taking notes on transforming a limited about of things or space into an unlimited amount of space or items.

Tap Tap Tap.

There stood Errol at the window. Tapping on the window with a note tied to his leg.

People began pointing and Hermione tried her best to sink into the soft wood of her seat.

"Ms. Granger?" McGonagall questioned. "Isn't that the owl that brings you to post every morning?"

"Umm, yes." She squeaks sitting up a tiny bit.

"Well, then you better go see what he has," McGonagall says folding her hands waiting.

She has stopped the lesson and drawn the entire classes attention to Hermione. Checks flaming pink with embarrassment she makes her way over to window shaking. The last few steps Hermione stumbles over her own feet and she can hear the other students snickering behind their hands as they pretend not to watch.

When she tries to unlatch the window her hand slips rattling the panes causing them to shake and crash echoing around the classroom. If a person was not paying attention before, everyone was now.

The latch squeaked as Hermione slid it out of place. The rusting metal and paint feel from the hardly moved to latch.

Opening the window she goes out to untie the letter from Errol's leg. Drawing her arms back in the window lives down suddenly and Hermione screams loudly right as the pane slams down against the rock window still cracking the bottom row of glass.

Pulling out her wand quickly in a nervous breakdown she behind to repair the fractured glass.

Once finished she sits back down, with the note clutched between her fingers and her ears red. She keeps her head down and her eyes on her paper for the rest of the class.

She doesn't even raise her hand to answer the most basic of questions while the loss on continues.

"The properties of the Perennis spell are actually quite simple. By waving your wand in an eight motion on its side you then transform the object in front of your wand into an endless amount of space or what it is itself. Now I want each of you to practice with the bags in front of you. Of the spell is performed correctly, this metal ring should never hit the bottom of the bag." Professor McGonagall explains walking between the desks stopping to demonstrate at a students desk.

Chants and improper pronunciations of the spell fill the room.

Hermione tries three times before the metal ring she has on her desk is dropped into the back and doesn't  come back.

"Very good, Ms. Granger." Professor McGonagall praises from the back of the room.

Once the bell rings and the student began to pack their belonging to rush towards their third class McGonagall places her hand on Hermione's shoulder stopping her from leaving.

"I need you to stay behind. Please." McGonagall says.

"Okay, sure," Hermione says hesitantly sliding her bag off of her shoulder.

"Please sit." McGonagall holds her hand out towards the desk Hermione just rose from and Hermione obeys quickly plopping down.

"I've noticed that every day you receive these notes, from the same owl, on the same piece of parchment, you never throw them away, you tuck into your bag and skip off to class with a smile in your face," McGonagall says. "And if I recall correctly those letters you receive are sent to you from Mr. Weasley. Am I correct?" She gives Hermione a pointed look raising her eyebrows.

"Yes, they are from Ron." Hermione starts slowly. "You see, he promised me that he would write to me every day. And he does write to me, every day. The distance of my being here and him being back in London, or has been very hard on our relationship. So the letters they help."

"Pardon me." Professor McGonagall interrupts. "Relationship?"

"Oh, yes." Hermione nods turning a sufficient shade of pink again. "Ron and I are dating."

"Well, that explains quite a lot." Would you come to my office this evening?" McGonagall questions. "The password is Emry Pie."

"Uh, yes Professor. I will be there." Hermione answers nodding her head very quickly.

"Ok, I will see you then, and here let me write you a late pass to your next class.

" Hold on!" Ginny says in shock putting her roll back on her plate mid-bite. "You mean to tell me that the headmistress. Wants you to come to her office, to talk about RON?" Ginny says her mouth wide open eyes in shock.

"Yes, Ginny!" Her mine whisper-yells at her "And for the thousandth time, keep your voice down!"

"I'm sorry it's just, 1) Ron is not that interesting of a topic to discuss." Hermione swatted her on the arm for that. "Ow! And 2) Tou are being summoned to talk about him! In the goddamn fucking Headmistresses fucking office!"

"Ginny again!" Hermione scolded "Keep your voice down. And watch your mouth. Now can I eat my dinner in peace?"

"Hermione! How could you just be causally eating right now?! Oh my lord! No wonder you and Ron are soul mates. But, this is Professor McGonagall we are talking about here. You can't just blow this off!"

"Ginny, " Hermione stays starting at her with frozen eyes. "I fought fucking Voldemort. This is not a big deal."

"Don't say his name!" Ginny hissed. "Oops, sorry. Force of habit. And you're one to talk, telling me to watch my language! " I fought fucking Voldemort!"" Ginny mocks moving her and like a puppet.

"Don't you have better things to do than gossip with me!?" Hermione asked tapping her fork on her plate.

"Well, the only better alternative to talking to you is snogging Harry. Oh, but he's not here, so I guess you're stuck with me!" Ginny says giggling sticking her lip out.

"Ugh, you're so annoying sometimes!" Hermione rolls her eyes in false annoyance.

"Ah, but you know you love me!" Ginny says folding her hands all business-like but jas a big goofy grin laying behind them.

"True, " Hermione says nodding and smiling.

Ginny throws her arms over Hermione and laughs.

"Finally! I have out smarted the great Hermione Granger!" Ginny shouts pumping her fists in the air.

"I would say you are smarter me-" Hermione starts.

"SH SHHH SHHHH!" Ginny cries throwing her pointer finger over Hermione's lips.

Closing her mouth to avoid eating Ginny's finger.

"I HAVE SILENCED HER TOO!" Ginny cries holding a triumphant fist in the air.

She's laughing so hard tears spring in the corners of her eyes as she falls onto the table in uncontrollable hysterics. Pounding the wood with her fists Ginny melts into a very slap happy girl, while Hermione gets sufficiently embarrassed for the second time today.

"Ginny..." She says through smiling clenched teeth. Nudging her with her elbow. "People are looking." When Ginny still keeps screaming and pounding her fists Hermione jabs her harder. "GINNY!"

"Right, sorry sorry." She says sitting up and will face while still shaking with giggles.

"Oh my God," Hermione says landing her forehead into her palm. "Why are you like this?" She says rubbing her temples, though you could hear the grin in her voice.

"Ah, " Ginny says staring at her with a sympathetic face, "but you still love me."

"I hate you!" Hermione says playfully rolling her eyes standing up.

"Hey! Wait up!" Ginny calls tripping over her own robes scrambling after her friend.

While walking up the stairs Hermione pretends not to laugh when Gunny throws her arm over her shoulders and holds her other hand out in front and above their heads.

"Oh, picture it, Hermione! You were so embarrassed!" She giggles.

"I know Ginny, I was there, two minutes ago!" Hermione cries nodding along only half trying to look annoyed anymore.

When they reach the corner where they go separate ways, Ginny begins walking down the hall backward in an attempt to keep talking to Hermione.

"You have to promise to tell me every detail!" She cries growing further away. "Now, if you don't mind me, I'm going to cry in the broom closet before practice." She says during around.

"Wait, Ginny! What?" Hermione yells turning around so quickly I made her head spin.

"Love you, see you after Quidditch!" Ginny yells sprinting around the corner far away.

Hermione smiles and rolls her eyes as she keeps walking toward her much-dreaded meeting.

Once Hermione reaches the stone gargoyle she stood pacing in fount of it for a minute or two before standing holding front of it.

"Emry Pie." She says trying to make her voice as steady as possible. "Who knows who could be listening." She thinks to herself as she steps onto the revolving stone gargoyle.

What would usually take forever and Hermione would will to go fast almost took no time at all when the stone steps rotated her up quickly. Too quickly for her liking.

The door stood open so Hermione took a few steps into the threshold before clearing her throat ever so slightly.

Professor McGonagall sat at her desk scribbling quickly with a quill onto some papers, her glasses were perched on the tip of her nose and she looked up when she heard Hermione clear her throat.

"Ah, Ms. Granger." She said smiling. "Thank you for joining me this evening. Please has a seat." She said gesturing with her hand she had used to take off her glasses, at the nice dark emerald green upholstered chair.

Sitting on the edge of her seat Hermione cradled her school bag in her lap and waited patiently for her Headmistress to strighten and put away her papers before speaking.

"You are probably wondering why I have summoned you here this evening." She said making intense eye contact with Hermione.

Professor McGonagall making eye contact was not an attempt to threaten or make Hermione uncomfortable, it was just her way of trying to be a polite professor and not act as if Hermione was a little importance to her.

Hermione was uncomfortable a little bit though, and she shuffled in her seat.

"Well, I have a few questions before I can tell you." McGonagall continued. "First I would like to ask, because of the fact that Mr. Weasley is no longer attending Hogwarts, I was wondering where he was living at the moment.

" Well, umm, he and Harry are living at Grimwald place right now," Hermione answered confusedly.

"Would they be there right now?" McGonagall asked quickly.

"They only ever go back to the Burrow on weekends, where they can eat real food." Hermione laughed to herself.

Her grin died when she says the stright line that was McGonagall's mouth. She looked as if she was contemplating something heavily and was in the midst of making a very difficult decision.

"All right. Ms. Granger, I have a surprise for you." McGonagall says standing and making her way over toward the fire.

"Because I am not allowed to let students leave school grounds unless giving. Permission by parents, there is a holiday, or students are only traveling to Hogsmeade, we will just have to bring someone to you." McGonagall smiles grabbing a handful of Floo powder from the vase on the mantel.

"What are you saying?" Hermione questions standing.

Her bag falls to the ground and her books and schoolwork spill out, she disregards this and walks towards the fire.

"Seeing that Mr. Weasley is no longer a student here, I see no problem with him coming here." Mcgonagall answers throwing the powder into the flames and shouting "NUMBER TWELVE GRIMWALD PLACE!"

The flames turn green and McGonagall sticks her head in.

Hermione can faintly hear her yelling. She can just imagine the boys freaking out and rushing to the kitchen to see who the "bloody hell is doing all the yelling".

Smiling to herself she laughs.

"Hello, Mr. Potter, " Hermione hears her say. "I'm fine, how are you. Yes, I heard. No at the moment you are not the one in trouble. I actually need to speak to Mr. Weasley." There was a long pause as Harry was probably running around the house searching for Ron.

"Ah, Weasley. Hello, I'm no time to explain but I'm going to need you here in my office, please. Everything has been cleared, there would be no trouble and I only need you. No, sadly Mr. Potter to are not needed on this venture." Withdrawing her head, McGonagall smooths the ruffles from her hair that aren't there and sneezes.

"Blasted ash." She mutters before returning to the papers on her desk.

Hermione looks between her and the fireplace wildly confused. Moments later the fireplace erupts with roaring green flames. Then out steps Ronald Billus Weasley. Very confused and still in his work clothes he looks around.

Hermione doesn't even give him time before she screams and runs at him.

"RON!" She cries throwing her arms around his ribcage.

"Whups! Huh? What?" Ron says confusedly before he realizes who's hugging him.

"Bloody hell. Hermione!" He cries scooping her up into his arms squeezing her tightly.

They stay like for a while before Ron finally puts Hermione down and he was over towards McGonagall.

"When, why How? Why?" He questions he beaming.

"Later, Mr. Weasley. I will explain when we send you home Sunday night. I will write Potter so he doesn't show up here demanding answers and in search for you. Now get out of my office before you start snogging. No old woman wants to see or be reminded of that."

Hermione has picked up her belongings while waiting for her Professor to finish before they leave.

Right before they leave and the door closes behind them McGonagall calls, "Oh, Weasley, " Ron pokes his head back in midstep, stumbling slightly. "Welcome back." She says smiling slightly. Looking back down at her papers she gives them an excuse to leave.

They sit cuddling in the common room. They at first were met with gawking onlookers who are interested soon wore off when Ron told them to leave him alone.
He was mostly just dreading Ginny's reaction.

The sun had just set when she walked in. She looked around towards the couches for Hermione, that's  when her jaw hit the floor.

"Oh. My! GOD! There is no escape from you! Is there?" She cries walking over toward them dragging her quidditch robes behind her. "You must show up! You can't do this!" She rants stomping a foot in front of him. "Is this why McGonagall wanted you?" She cries turning towards Hermione, pointing a finger. "Because he just decided to show up!"

"No, actually, " Ron says calmly cutting unto her rage. (Clearly enjoying it.) "Professor McGonagall asked me to come."

"SHE WHAT?" Ginny cries, her eyes widening yet even more. "I-I-I-I have to go lodge a complaint or something. This isn't right. There has to be a rule to even a guideline saying non-students cannot just be the school." Ginny mutters to herself dropping her robes in a puddle on the following before dropping moodily into a chair catty-corner from the love seat Ron an Hermione are on.

Hermione pecks Ron on the lips turning to face him in their embrace, and he leans in to give her a longer more passionate kiss. But they are both interrupted by Ginny making loud retching noises until they stop.

"Do you really have to do that?" Ron askes looking at her annoyed.

"Do you really have to do that here?" She snaps back. "And needn't I remind you what happened when you caught me and Harry kissing." She says giving him a side eye of malice.

"Oh, Ron. She has a point." Hermione says leaning out of his embrace.

"Oh shut up and kiss me," Ron says rolling his eyes smiling. He sends Ginny a look of venom before his lips make contact with Hermione's.

Time travel to Testing Week
Two weeks until school ends.

Having already turned in her tests Ginny strolls around the backside of the school near the border of the Forbidden Forest, away from Hagrid's house.

"Hey! Gin!" A voice yells from above her. Squinting her eyes against the burning sun she sees a glowing head of platinum blonde hair.

"Hey, Draco!" She yells back waving. Not worried about people, seeing her, no one ever comes back here.

"Wait there!" Draco yells down at her. "I'll be down in a minute!"

His head disappears from the window and Ginny waits. She looks around and kicks stones around waiting. She can hear his breathing before he rounds the corner.

When he sees her he stops placing one hand on his knee and the other on the wall, panting he looks up at her with a pained grin.

"You have no idea," he says through gasps of breath "how fast, I ran down here." He finishes. He looks down again chest heaving he gasps for air.

Feining death he collapses on the ground. Laughing Ginny falls on the ground next to him.

"You didn't have to run you know." She giggles. Laying on her stomach she rests her head in her hands with elbows propped up of the ground.

"I realize that now," Draco answers looking up at her.

"How was testing?" Draco askes sitting up, crossing his legs he leans back on his arms.

"Bloody horrible." Ginny answers. "But I bet a million gallons 'Mione is still in there, scribbling away." Ginny. Says draping her hands and arms to the ground in exhaustion.

"What about you?" She asked through her arms.

"Boring. But it's  not like I'm going anywhere in life." Draco answers throwing his head back.

"Oh, don't talk like that!" Ginny says swatting his arm.

"Whatever Mom!" He answers rubbing his arm.

Rolling onto her back Ginny looks up at the sky.

"Ugh, we haven't had a sunny day in ages!" She says throwing her arms up into the air, changing the subject.

"How could you like the sun?" Draco questions her in disgust. Sneering with a grin.

"Oh, whatever, vampire boy!" She says tilting her head back to look at him. "Besides, didn't I ask for your input."

"Hey! Dont call me that." He yells at her laughing.

"Okay, vampire boy!" She cries jumping up.

"What did I just say!?" Draco cries jumping to his feet, as well.

"I can't recall!" Ginny says tapping her chin.

"Oh, you're going to pay for that!" He yells pulling his wand out.

"Oh yeah!" Ginny taunts back pulling her own wand out.

"Yeah!" Draco says smiles as he fires a spell seventeen feet to the left of her.

"Oh ho ho!" Ginny laugh pitifully. "You're going to pay for that!" She cries.

They each fire purposely missed spells at each other only growing a few inches closer at a time. The streak is broken when Ginny hits Draco in the face with a spell that causes confetti to pour out of his ears.

"Ginevra Weasley!" He cries hold his head. "That hurt! And you're going to pay for that!"

He fires a spell that causes her to float up into the air. Struggling she tries to get down.

"DRACO!" She screeches "PUT. ME. DOWN! NOW!"

"Only if you say I win!" Draco calls raising his wand higher.

"NEVER!" Ginny protests.

"Well then, I guess you're stuck up there." Draco shrugs and starts to walk away.

"FINE FINE!" Ginny calls after him. "You win!" As he lets her down she sighs in defeat.

"But just this once." She says laying back down on the grass.

One week until school ends

"Must be nice," Draco says intrupping Ginny's train of thought as she responds to a letter from Percy.

"What?" She asked looking up.

"Having a family."

"You have a family."

"Excuse me. A family that loves you."

"Oh, Draco, your family loves you. Somewhere deep within their hearts is, little baby Draco." She says the last part in a baby voice making a face.

"Yeah, " Draco scoffs. "Deep. Down."

"Oh, Draco, you don't need them. There are plenty of people who will and do love you."

"Name one," Draco says thinking he's being all smart and proving a point.

"What are you saying, Ginny?" He askes slowly turning his head towards her.

"Enough, Draco. Oh shit, It's 9:56. We better get going before Flitch skins us alive." She says packing up her things.

Rushing from the library she runs up the marble staircase.

"I love you too," Draco says to her disappearing shadow against the low torchlight.

Two days before school ends

Throwing herarm over Draco, Ginny walks with Draco to the Room of Requirement. They talk and talk while Draco wills their cozy "safe space" as Ginny calls it to appear.

She paces around talking mindlessly about try out for a Quidditch team of some sort when two seventh year Ravenclaws around the corner.

Seeing them Ginny pulls her wand out and points is a Draco.

"GET AWAY FROM ME MALFOY!" She spits.

The two girls see this a scramble away from the imposing duel.

Looking at her with pain and venom in his eyes, the door finally does appear.

Draco rushes in and barely gives Ginny time to scramble in after him.

She enters brushing off her bum, when she looks up Ginny sees a face she will never forget for the rest of her days.

Draco is standing there with his arms crossed and has his lips scrunched up in fury. Oh, but the pain in his eyes is so clear it shines like a candle in a pitch back room.

"After everything, that's happened? When someone sees you with me, that's how you react?" He questions her.

"Draco-" she starts, but stops when he throws his arms down in disgust.

"Why not just going back to calling me Malfoy, if that's how you're going act?"

"Draco, you need to listen to me!" Ginny cries at him.

"I'm listening, but you better be quick, I have a lot of other fake friends to fight with after this, so hurry."

"Draco, you have to put yourself in my shoes. Can you imagine what would happen if Hermione found out, can you imagine if the boys found out? Draco, you knew from the beginning that this was going to be secret. We weren't even supposed to stay friends. I was only going to help you stay sober!"

"I just thought that maybe with all the time we've spent together, that you would be more inclined to be a real friend, but if not. I guess I've been lying to myself this whole time!" Draco yells back, thankful the walls are soundproof.

"Draco stop saying things like that! You are my friend! Draco you're one of my best friends! I told you I love you! Draco that means something!"

"You're just afraid!" Draco spits at her.

"Yes! You're right! I am afraid! I'm afraid of losing you! The only way we could have stayed friends is if no one knew! Of the boys found you would either be dead or I would never be able to go anywhere alone ever again! You understand Draco! I don't want people to know because then I would never see you again!"

"There are two ways this friendship could end," Draco says quietly.

"What? What do you mean?"

"I'm done, Ginny, I won't see you after this anyway. You'll be to busy making babies with Potter. It's better I leave now. Thanks for your help. I won't drink anymore, at least now I don't have to hide from everyone all the time when I want to have a good time with friends. I'll just go find people who aren't ashamed to be seen with me." He starts to walk towards the door with his hands in his pockets.

"No! No Draco you can't leave!" Ginny cries throwing herself in front of the door.

"Ginny move," Malfoy says weakly

"No! Draco dont leave! I can't lose you!"

"You already have."

"What?" Ginny's face falls when he says that.

"Move Ginny." Her body just gave up.

She didn't even try to fight him anymore. She just stepped weakly to the side and gave up. She let him pass. No more worries, no more troubles. She just let him leave.

"Goodbye, Ginny." He says over his shoulder.

The door slams shut and just before the wall seals over he hears her scream. That scream will haunt him.

Turning he places his right palm against the wall, right where the door would be.

"You taught me to love Ginny. You taught me peace of mind, I thank you for that. But leaving me, took both of those from me now. Goodbye." Letting his hand slide off the wall he walks away.

He doesn't know Ginny heard every word he said.

Screaming she bangs her head against the wall.

Goodbye Draco. I'm glad I taught you love, but if you dont have it anymore. I guess that means I have to give up my love for you. Goodbye.

This is the last thing Ginny thinks before passing ours from exhaustion and head trauma. Not from hitting it. From the wave of emotion that those two words brought to her.

Goodbye Ginny.

One of the most painful things she will ever have to hear.
