.prologue
The ship. The ship was sinking. Ineko never thought she'd see the Interrogator sink- how could it? It was impossible, yet here she was, drowning in the depths of the dark seas, watching through blurred vision the faces of the already drowned pirates, bodies falling like plentiful leaves all around her.
Pitiful.
She lived her whole life exploring the ocean, but her very demise was the place where she grew to love.
Ineko couldn't tell which way was up or down- everything was a deep, murky blue, and nothing made sense. Was that her father who just sunk past her? How? Only an hour ago they were celebrating the pregnancy of her mother.
She was to have a sibling in a few months. Her unborn sibling; a human who died before they got the chance to live.
Ineko's eyes began to flutter close. Her limbs spasmed as her body cried out but her soul refused to breathe- she refused to find a way back to the surface.
Nothing was holding her back- she wasn't tangled up in seaweeds like her mother was, she wasn't struck by falling debris like her cabin mates were and she wasn't killed by unknown forces like her dad was.
No- there was one thing that kept her from breathing.
She believed her soul was tied to the Interregator- the ship that meant more to her than family. Now that the Interregator was gone, she might as well go to, and follow the ghost of the ship into the underworld.
Even though her lungs burned for air, she knew one thing.
Ineko Sata didn't want to live anymore.
