Prologue
Morgan sighed, looking over at the most popular boy in the class, Nathan Smith, with his black rimmed glasses, soft black hair and gorgeous eyes, she had no idea why he didn't have a girlfriend. The first thing she really noticed was his smile, his big toothy grin, and those sweet dimples. She could hardly stand it.
All of her friends kept trying to tell her he was gay, but she had a hard time believing it. But she was beginning to wonder.
She had admired him for year, and it seemed like the right time to approach him two weeks previous, despite trying before, when the teacher announced a partner project. She remembered it clearly.
She approached the ebony haired teen, and put a big smile on. "Hi, Nathan, I was wondering if you had a partner for the project-"
"Nate! Hey! Over here! I got a plan for our project!" Hunter Hughes, Nathan's best friend, called, causing the black haired wonder to jump and turn sharply, to look at the brunet teen who was a year or so older.
"I'll be right there!" Nathan said smiling, and glanced at her, "I um...sorry no um...I-"
"NATE!" Hunter yelled again laughing.
"Bye."
So her offer to help him had been thwarted by Hunter, not for the first time either, and each time since, Hunter had been there to draw Nathan away. The blue eyed girl had been stressing over each detail. She had decided at homecoming she would steal Nathan off away from Hunter. Hopeful to get a chance to talk to the boy.

Nate sighed, he couldn't look up at the brunette girl who had captured his attention. He had noticed her a year before. It was her laugh that caught his attention first. It would grab anyone's attention. It was a loud snort, he didn't know what she was laughing at but when he turned and saw her, his heart nearly stopped.
Her blue eyes had wandered from her friend over to him, and her smile grew, and she waved at him. She was beautiful and he couldn't breathe until he had run off down the hall, after some of the guys had grabbed him and dragged him away, most namely Hunter. Who had later claimed that Nate had looked like he was about to pass out, have a nose bleed, or both.
He had known Hunter all his life and Hunter had always been there to help him avoid girls. When he had told Hunter about his crush on Morgan the other man laughed, promising to help him learn how to talk to girls so he wouldn't be a complete wreck. When the girl herself had approached him, multiple times no less, Nate had been completely caught off guard.
No matter how he had tried to talk to her, it came out a jumbled mess and Hunter had to rescue him, time and time again. Two weeks previous after Hunter saved him, yet again, once they got to Nate's house after school, Nate had ended up breaking down in tears.
"Why can't I just fucking talk to her?" Nate cried having thrown his bag onto the bed, and Hunter took off his own bag and squatted down next to his best friend with a lopsided smile, and a concerned look.
"Hey, dude... its okay. It'll be okay." he tried to calm down the black haired teen. "I mean... she's going to try again. Deep breath."
"But what if she doesn't? What if I fucked it up? I hate it! I just want to be able to ask her on a date!" Nate yelled covering his face. He wasn't sad, no he was mad. He was furious with himself for being unable to say 'Want to hang out?'
Four words. It shouldn't be that hard. But Nate had a hard time breathing around her and her smile, oh her smile alone, it got his stomach wound up in knots.
He ran his hands through his hair trying to fight back the tears. "Fuck this... fuck me... Fuck all of this!" he yelled and Hunter reached out patting his shoulder.
"It'll be okay, Nate, I mean you can find a way to ask her-"
"No there isn't-"
"Nate, yes there is there is always a chance you can ask her or tell her-"
"NO, HUNTER! THERE ISN'T BECAUSE I'M MOVING IN THREE WEEKS!" Nate yelled, "Or did you forget...?" He looked up at Hunter sighing, "Sorry. Just... I feel stupid for even wanting to tell her... its pretty damn selfish."
"I guess... it is pretty selfish. But I don't blame you..."
Nate sighed, debating whether or not he would attend homecoming. He wanted to go, one last fun night before he left town, left the state.
"Nate, you should just go." Hunter urged with a grin as he came up to sit in the now empty seat next to Nathan, "It'll be fun."
"Sure... I guess." he sighed, playing with his pencil, ignoring the other guys who were messing around behind him. Normally he would be quick to jump in. But as Monday approached it was less and less likely to happen. He forced a smile, four more days until he was gone.

It was the night of homecoming, finally. Two days until he had to leave. He took a deep breath, adjusting his black skinny jeans. He was wearing a black dress shirt and a green tie. He had some gauges in that were bright green, complimenting his tie. Hunter was working on tying his own tie. Unlike Nate, he had opted for slacks instead of jeans. The brunet grinned, "Ready, Nate?"
"I guess.... " Nate sighed and forced a smile, "Do I look convincing?"
"No, you look like shit. Of course you look convincing." Hunter rolled his eyes. Nate rolled his eyes, shoulder shoving the older a bit.
"Then let's go." he chuckled.

Morgan smiled into the mirror fixing her hair, while some of her friends did their make up. "Morgan, are you really going to try to get a date with Nate? He's definitely gay. He never has had a girlfriend, and he's always with Hunter." one of the girls laughed.
"By that logic I must be a lesbian, I'm always with you girls." Morgan retorted smirking into the mirror. "Seriously, I won't know if I don't ask him out."
"I think you should go for it!" another girl piped up grinning.
"Thanks." Morgan said as she slipped on her heels, "Well I think I'm ready." she sighed adjusting her dress happily, making sure it fit her just right. It was a charcoal dress with some blue tints in it. It was nothing fancy but she loved it nevertheless.

Nate arrived and couldn't keep a smile from growing on his face as he watched the lights coming from the gym. Music, lights, and dancing. What could go wrong? Everything. A little voice in the back of his head answered. Nate's smile flickered but he pushed the negative thought out of his mind. No tonight will be great. It'll be fun.
He smiled as Hunter pulled him into the gym, just in time for Morgan to spy them. She shoved her coat to one of her friends and ran into the gym after them, wanting to wait for a chance. She was nervous, what if he was gay? She shook her head, no. she couldn't think like that.
Hunter smiled, dancing a bit on his own, spying the brunette girl watching them. "Nate, do you want to dance with Morgan?" he asked sneakily.
"Well...of course I do..." Nate sighed sadly, "But I can't really just ask her, now can I?"
"No you can't. But its a dance." Hunter laughed as a slower song came on and he shoved Nate toward the brunette, who scrambled for a moment to try to catch the taller ebony. The teen jumped and looked at her, turning around a bit with wide shocked eyes.
"I'm-I...um..." he stumbled over his own tongue. "I..."
"Would you like to dance?" Morgan chuckled, a smile growing on her face as the music picked up.
I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me
I still feel your touch in my dreams
Nate blushed but nodded, and Morgan's smile grew wider. Is she smiling because of me...?
He couldn't remember if he was breathing or not, but he was smiling, he knew that at least, and his hands hesitantly rested on her waist making her smile widely. God that smile... it made his heart flutter wildly.
'Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling
And every time we kiss I swear I could fly
Can't you feel my heart beat fast,
I want this to last
He was breathing harder than normal, but he was happy, at least he got to dance with her once. She smiled swaying with him. He looked somewhat startled but with a faint dusting of pink over his nose, she couldn't help but find him adorable. She smiled seeing those dimples of his start to appear as his smile grew.
She found it cute how he seemed nervous about touching her waist, even touching her at all. "Nate? You okay...?" she whispered smiling at him, to which she received a quick nod, and a warm but small smile.
"Y-Ye-yeah." he stuttered, his tongue feeling like lead.
'Cause every time we touch, I feel the static
And every time we kiss I reach for the sky
Can't you hear my heart beat so
I can't let you go
Want you in my life
Morgan would never be able to forget this. She could feel the eyes of some of her friends watching, and out of the corner of her eye she saw Hunter grinning.
The ebony haired boy was trying to calm down, she was touching him, and she was so close and smiling- his mind was racing. You're going to fuck it up. You always do. the little voice hissed in the back of his mind and he tried to force it back.
As the song ended, Morgan smiled and leaned up closer to Nathan. His heart skipped a beat causing him to blush darker as she pressed her soft lips to his cheek. He got dizzy almost instantly, his stomach in knots.
Hunter frowned watching and ran over, "Nate, I really-" Morgan tried as Nathan stumbled a bit and she stopped out of concern for the boy. Nate wasn't seeing quite clearly. How do you breathe? Oh god how do I breathe? he screamed in his mind as his vision got blurry from lack of oxygen.
Hunter grabbed him, and pulled him off. Morgan watched her heart breaking slightly as she watched Hunter and Nate leave the dance. She had thought maybe Hunter was trying to make up for all of his interruptions but obviously that wasn't the case. Maybe...Nate was sick. That had to be it. She'd have to apologize on Monday.

Nate groaned, having had passed out. Hunter smiled looking at him, "Hey, dude. You did pretty good... you got to dance with her." Hunter tried to help him feel better, though he knew it wouldn't work. It was Sunday. One day left.
Nate teared up, "I... I messed it up..." he whispered. The voice was right.
"Hey... Nate... maybe you'll see her again someday." Hunter offered softly.
Nate didn't hear him, he was curled up, hugging his pillow to his chest crying. He wished he could have at least told her thank you for the dance. But maybe that was just never in the cards for him.

Morgan waited for him on Monday. But he didn't come.
Still she waited, but on Tuesday, then Wednesday, eventually Thursday and Friday... Hunter came to school alone.
Maybe her friends were right. Maybe she had scared Nate away. Maybe Nate was gay.
