11. Green Goo
Asahi opened his eyes, staring at the harsh white ahead of him. He smelled disinfectant and cologne and something a little too cold. He huffed softly, too tired for words. He didn't know what words were right now.
His eyes adjusted and Aone's chest was apparent in front of him, his breathing tickling the top of Asahi's hair as if it were a tiny air conditioner. He froze, realizing Aone was laying next to him. His body shot up and he looked around, heart racing. "Oh god."
Aone's brows furrowed and his forehead creased a bit but his eyes stayed closed and his arms stayed crossed. Asahi wanted to laugh at the way he slept but he couldn't stop panicking.
"Fuck. Fuck! I didn't mean to fall asleep!" Asahi looked around for anyone else.
Aone shifted in his sleep, his eyes fluttering open. "Asahi..."
"Aone. Hi."
Aone hummed and carefully sat himself up. "Are you alright?"
"I'm okay." He smiled nervously. "Why wouldn't I be okay?"
"You are shaking." Aone grabbed his hand, rubbing his knuckles slowly. "Are you cold?"
"No!"
Aone watched Asahi. His movements hid his wincing at his leg as he went to hold Asahi. "Please breathe."
Asahi shuddered out a breath. "Thank you."
Aone nodded and looked to his bag. "Are any of my books here with us?"
"I think I have an extra book that I've read already-" Asahi got up, checking the time. "Oh no! I've got work really soon!"
"Hand me the book and get safely to work."
Asahi handed him his book and hurried off to work, nearly running to his car in the parking lot. Aone laid down with Asahi's book, reading the first few pages before he started noticing pen marks.
On the tops of pages would be little stars and he discovered certain names were underlined, an arrow pointing to the side of the page with the meaning of the name. Aone barely even read the book, engrossed in the little comments along the pages. He only set down the book for the doctors to look over his bandages and to eat. He didn't want to dull Asahi's words with the mushy hospital food, scared he'd absorb more agitation than ink.
It was hours before Asahi came back and when he did he wrapped Aone in his arms. Aone didn't question it, rubbing his back.
He pulled away, picking up a grocery bag. He picked up its contents and smiled nervously. "I thought since you were stuck here we might as well do something fun."
"What is that?"
"A face mask."
"I can't get up to go to the sink for this," Aone noted softly.
Asahi grinned. "I thought of that! This one I can just wipe off the goop afterwards."
"Alright." Aone sat himself up and made it so the bed would help him stay up.
Asahi smiled and opened the box he'd bought, opening the packet of gel and pouring it into a little cup. "Green tea is supposed to be super good for your skin. I didn't know that until last year I think. It smells good."
Aone hummed, watching him.
"It's a little cold." Asahi looked up. "Are you ready?"
"I am."
"Great." Asahi used a tiny spatula to spread some of the gel onto his face. Aone set his head back and let Asahi do as he wanted, just glad he was able to distract himself. "Alright it's gotta sit for thirty minutes. Can you keep your face still for that long?"
Aone nodded.
Asahi smiled. "You look so silly. Not that that's bad! But you just look silly cause your face is green!"
Aone set his hand on Asahi's knee, eyes softening. Asahi relaxed nearly instantly, his heart rate going straight back down. He sat next to Aone, telling him about the odd adventures of his day dealing with his students. He kept checking the timer as well, babbling all throughout this.
The timer went off and Asahi grabbed a rag and put water on it, going back to Aone. He sat by him and started wiping off his face, smiling. "Smells nice?"
"It does."
Asahi smiled. "I'm glad. I use a rose scented one."
Aone smiled as Asahi kept whispering, wiping his face. "Asahi?"
"Mhmm?"
"We aren't just going to keep having me pleasure you, correct?"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't want to be coworkers who offer each other pleasure. I enjoy your company and I'm constantly thinking of you romantically."
Asahi paused, holding the cloth. He took a deep breath and then another, then several quick deep breaths. Soon he was shaking and crying, holding onto Aone's arm.
Aone grabbed his arms and forced him to lean into him, pressing him close. "Breathe. Asahi, breathe."
Asahi burrowed into his shoulder. "I really want to date you but that was sudden and it freaked me out and I didn't know what to do about it. I'm so sorry."
Aone eased him back and wiped away his tears. "I'm here."
Asahi nodded, sniffling.
Aone wiped his cheeks and pressed a thumb over his now swollen lips, enlarged by biting back cries. Aone wanted so badly to speak out loud about how incredibly beautiful his tall brunette was when he cried. All of his emotion showed. He cried so freely and so much that it was hard to not see the beauty of his emotion.
Instead, he kissed his cheeks and let Asahi calm down. "Your answer?"
"Of course. I'd love to date you." Asahi laughed. He chuckled, sniffling.
Aone kissed his cheek again. "Please take the rest of the mask off."
Asahi wiped away the rest of the green goo on his face and smiled. "You're so much more alive around me. Do I make you talkative?"
"Very."
Asahi smiled. "I need to head home soon."
"Alright."
Asahi smiled. "When can you head home?"
"Tomorrow. I'll need my wheelchair and someone with me."
"I can come here before work."
"That would be nice."
Asahi smiled. He could see Aone's apartment and help him again. "I'll be here then." Aone nodded. Asahi kissed him and backed up some. "Lay down, okay?"
Aone laid down and Asahi covered him, turning out the lights. He whispered a quick goodnight before walking away from the room and to the elevator. As soon as he stepped into the elevator he called his best friend, the very same one who was worriedly walking the length of the living room.
"Where have you been?!"
Asahi paused. "The hospital. I was visiting Aone."
"Shit sorry. He good?"
"Yes, he's fine. We're dating now too." The elevator dinged and he smiled, heading to the parking lot for his car. He could see it from here, the blue a home to his eyes. Soon he stopped talking to Nishinoya about what had happened and paused in his spot, confused.
"Hey is everything okay?"
"Layla is here," he whispered. He stared at the girl in the flashy pink dress. "Oh god."
"Shit."
"What do I do?!" Asahi backed up into the lobby, eyes stuck on the girl through the large windows. "Noya what the fuck?!"
"Hold the hell on I'm on my way!" There was the slam of a door and Nishinoya shouting to someone else. "I'm bringing Bokuto with me."
"Why is he in the apartment?!"
"We were setting up the new TV! Shut up!"
"Hey Asahi!"
Asahi bit his nail. Layla made eye contact with him and he turned around, running into a stairwell. "She made eye contact with me!"
"Jesus fuck! Go upstairs!"
Asahi kept running. "Fuck!"
He went to Aone's room, shutting the door behind him. Aone shifted in his sleep. "Who's in here?"
"It's Asahi. Someone is following me."
Aone sat up, rubbing his eyes. "What?"
"Someone is following me."
Aone hit the nurse button on the side of his bed. "Come here."
Asahi got up, close to the bed. A nurse rushed in. "Is everything alright?"
"Someone is following my partner."
"Do you need security?"
"Please." Aone drowsily sat up. "She's a young woman around five foot three. She wears a pair of glasses that have pink on the sides."
"Got it."
The door opened and Asahi cried out, dodging Layla going for him. She hit the bed and Aone stiffened. Asahi ran out the door, heading to the nurse's station.
