Leave Me Alone
Me and Chase walk back to the base site where August and June are holding a boy up. "You take care of the laundry, I'll, help." I run up to the three as Chase starts to put the clothes up. August looks up at me as I stop at them, the boy looking unconscious, his messy blonde hair clearly the work of running for a month straight with a duffle bag on his shoulder. "What happened?"
"He came running in a few minutes after you and Chase left to do laundry," August looks at me then him. "He says he twisted his ankle a few miles back and then passed out as soon as he got those words out of his mouth."
I look at him, Chase putting the basket in the van then walking up to us, looking down at the boy and nearly screaming, taking him from the twins and putting him on the floor of the van and taking off his hoodie and rolling it up, placing it under his head and running to food and water, pouring the water down his throat and lifting his head so it gets into his system.
"Chase who is this?" I get into the van as he pours more water into his mouth.
"It's Nathan. He was gone the day the bombs went off." Chase pours more water down his throat, Nathan sitting up and choking, gapping for air and looking at Chase.
"Dude what the fuck!" He pushes Chase away by his chest. "I thought you were dead!"
"I'm not and you're hurt," Chase grabs his shoulders and lies him back down, looking at me then him. "I need you to lie still while Olive looks at your ankle okay?"
"Olive?" He nods as I cross my arms. "That weird girl from school you dig?"
August and June giggle. I glare back at them and they look down at the ground, continuing to giggle. "She's not weird. She's actually been keeping us all alive."
"Dude. You know she fucked Bryce right?"
"And that's as true as you loosing your virginity to Taylor Keen." He looks at me then down. Everyone knows that it was a lie he slept with Taylor Keen. I sit down by his leg as Chase gets the first aid kit. "August, June can you guys start on dinner?"
"The usual?" August asks as she starts a fire.
"No. If it's bad he'll need more calcium and protein, hell we all will." I roll up his pants leg and take off his shoe, look at his ankle and from one look at it I can tell he won't be able to walk for at least a few weeks without a limp or a cane. "Yeah we'll need protein and calcium. Make eggs, the rest of the bacon package and then toast. You know how to make it right?" They nod and start working. Chase looks at Nathan and they keep talking. I hold it still and bandage it.
"What's so bad about my ankle? It's fine." Nathan smiles.
"Well first off you didn't sprain your ankle miles ago, you sprained it days ago. You'll be stuck here with us for at least a couple weeks and then you'll need physical therapy, but we can help with that and then you have the choice of either being on your own or staying with us."
"We only have enough food to last us through winter for four people, Olive." Chase glares into me.
"We have enough food to last us until summer, be honest. And we only eat two meals a day anyway so I think we'll be good on food but as soon as winter ends we'll need to stalk up." I finish bandaging his ankle and hand the first aid kit to Chase who puts it away. Nathan sits up and looks at our set up in the van. Half of it is just the things we stole, and so Nathan has no where to sleep unless it's the ground.
"You two sleep together I assume?" He points to the seats we moved together, Chase slowly nodding. "Dude, you got some!"
"No he didn't. He's just as much of a virgin as you are." I smirk and get out of the van to help with dinner.

Chase closes the van door and I turn on the light above our bed. Nathan made himself a bed on the reclining passenger seat while the twins still have their bed. "Turn the light off will ya?" I glare at Nathan as h turns back to us.
"Olive reads us stories at night. It helps the twins to sleep and calms my nerves." Chase nervously smiles, sitting next to me on the bed. We need more then a single van. We need like three vans.
"Why do you need a story?"
"To make this bad world better." August smiles. Through all the curses they've heard these past weeks, they don't curse. Ever. "We started reading 'All At Once' last night. We're only on page three when June fell asleep so it's not that confusing."
"What's the book about?" Nathan asks, getting up and hoping to the floor, grabbing his stuff to make a bed and lying down.
"Ash Michael's is a normal boy who has a crush on his neighbor Kaitlin Bur and when a video of him singing on YouTube goes viral everyone wants him but he's still pining for Kaitlin, but he's doesn't know what to do with this new found fame besides trying to get the girl." I open the book and look at Nathan as he settles in on the ground.
"That sounds stupid." Nathan puts his arms behind his head, looking up at me.
"It's actually pretty good," Chase chuckles. "So far it's just Ash being made fun of by his sister Heaven for not asking her out to the Spring Ball."
"Whatever," Nathan mutters, closing his eyes as I roll mine. "I'm all ears."
