Lieutenant Miller
Brooke pulled up to the stationhouse on her motorcycle, parking the vehicle in the same spot she always had before walking into the station with her head held high as if she owned the place.
The atmosphere of the station was bustling and her senses were immediately immersed in the symphony of ringing phones, hushed conversations and the occasional siren echoing in the distance.
She greeted the familiar faces she knew as she looked for Chief Vincent. As Brooke rounded the corner of one of the station hallways she almost ran right into Jade.
"Hey Jade, do you know where Chief is?" She inquired, knowing that if anyone could point her in the right direction of where Chief Vincent was it would be Jade.
Jade nodded. "Yeah, just continue down the hallway then take a left and she should just be around the corner" She pointed down the corridor, indicating to Brooke where to go.
Thanking Jade, Brooke followed her directions. Turning the corner, true to Jade's word, there was Chief Vincent looking over some files that another officer was showing her.
Waiting until they were done, Brooke stood off to the side as she waited for Vincent to finish up with one of her other officers. Once they did, Chief Vincent quickly noticed the young brunette leaning up against the wall.
"Ah, Brooklyn, good to see you" Vincent greeted.
"Hey, Chief" Brooke replied.
They exchanged in a cordial discussion. Their dialogue flowed effortlessly, filled with a mutual respect that had this conversation taken place a few weeks ago Brooke was sure wouldn't be shown to her.
"Well, there is actually something that I would like to discuss with you in my office" Vincent then announced. "If that's alright with you?" She added. Not that Brooke could've or would've said no to whatever her boss wanted to discuss with her.
Agreeing, they made their way through the station house to Chief Vincent's office. Brooke marvelled at the room, Vincent's desk was situated in front of large panel windows that offered an exquisite view of the city that surrounded the station.
Brooke sat in one of the chairs across from her desk, while Vincent rounded it in order to sit in her black leather chair.
She fished some files out from one of the desk drawers and leaned her arms on the desk before beginning. "Well, Brooklyn, I'll get straight to the point. We'd like to offer you the position of lieutenant" Vincent revealed.
Brooke's jaw fell slack, that was not at all what she had been expecting. "Y-Your serious?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yes," Vincent confirmed. "As I'm sure you know, the role of lieutenant is typically given to those with at least a decade of experience in the field, I don't think we've ever given such a role to someone so young before" She added.
"But, after seeing your capture of Bebop and Rocksteady and following several long conversations with myself and some of the other captains, we've decided to give you a chance" Vincent admitted.
A few chuckles escaped Brooke's lips. "I can't take all the credit for the capture of those two maniacs, Casey also played a massive part in it as well" She corrected, giving Casey his credit where it was well deserved.
Vincent nodded. "I understand that you and Jones were both responsible for the capture of the two felons" She agreed. "But as I'm sure you know, he has chosen to not return to the task force. Therefore, I can only offer this promotion to you" Vincent added.
Brooke's mind was racing like a wild stallion unleashed. Thoughts whirled around her head, colliding with one another and jostling for attention. Her mind was a ceaseless storm of activity, a tempest of imagination and curiosity as she seriously thought about Chief Vincent's offer.
Following her silence, Vincent spoke up again. "If you need more time to think about it I understand-" She suggested before being cut off by Brooke suddenly stating.
"I'll take it"
Hearing Brooke's abrupt acceptance of her promotion, Vincent smiled. "Wonderful, glad to hear that Brooklyn" She avowed.
The two women continued to discuss information regarding the promotion, ensuring that Brooke fully understood the role she was taking on and all the responsibilities that came with it. After reassuring Chief Vincent that she did in fact understand the position that she was taking on, she exited the office now as a lieutenant at the New York Police Department.
She felt a whirlwind of emotions and responsibilities begin to pile up on her shoulders. Brooke recognised the increased expectations that were now placed on her and the gravity of her position but was beyond eager to begin her new work and embrace the challenges ahead.
Vincent ordered Jade to guide the brunette to her new office which was located on the east side of the precinct. She also introduced Brooke to her new colleagues, which consisted of more experienced officers and task force members. As opposed to the young recruits she had previously worked alongside.
Immediately, Brooke was thrown directly into a briefing about what the department was going to do about the large amounts of Foot soldiers who were still loose within the city. After tossing around some different ideas and suggestions, the responsibility of finding and capturing the remaining Foot clan members was given to Brooke and her new team.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Jade handed her a box that held files upon files of evidence of Foot clan information which consisted of known hideouts or members. The higher-ranking officer then instructed Brooke, and her new team, to come up with a plan of action to find and bring in every single Foot clan member that remained at large within the city.
Brooke and the task force moved into a conference room to begin discussing ideas of how to track down the remaining Foot clan members.
Utilizing a large bulletin board that hung on the wall, some of the older officers took charge and began to stick photographs and other evidence to the board as they commenced work by first deliberating ideas back and forth.
Within her new team, Brooke felt important despite the fact that she was by far the youngest person in the room. Consisting of junior officers and a few second lieutenants, the new task force was a breath of fresh air for her.
The world around them seemed to fade into the background as they delved deeper into the task. Time lost all its meaning as the task force immersed themselves in their work. The sound of clicking keys from a laptop filled the room as one of the other officers typed out ideas and placed them inside the station's data file.
As the day progressed, Brooke found herself engaged in a multitude of tasks which all related to the overall task she had been assigned. She reviewed reports, analyzed data and alongside many senior officers, strategized ways to enhance the effectiveness of their precinct's operations to ensure that those involved with the Foot would face justice.
It felt exceptionally great for the young girl to actually be listened to for her opinions on subjects and what actions the task force should take. When Brooke was a lowly new recruit, her voice and perspective were never taken into account by her superiors. Many of them simply considered her as the recruit that would fetch them their coffee.
Now she stood with officers who seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say, as they discussed their plans over donuts during their lunch break.
Sure, Brooke knew there would be those amongst the NYPD who would believe that she didn't deserve the title of lieutenant. She was already preparing for Damien's onset of jokes asking if she had slept around for the promotion.
Luckily, she really couldn't give a shit about what he had to say about her elevation within the department. And she also knew that the little greaseball wouldn't have the balls to say anything to her around the higher-ups that she was currently surrounded by, so Brooke decided not to worry about him.
Instead, she threw her mind into the task at hand. Using her bright mind to collaborate with her colleagues to come up with an overall game plan to complete the task that had been assigned to them.
With their collective knowledge, expertise and determination, the task force was pleased with the progress they had made throughout the day and they were certain that if they continued to follow this pace throughout the following weeks, they would capture the persisting clan members.
As the department reached closing time, the task force began to pack away the files they had laid out. Agreeing to pick back up from here tomorrow.
Collecting her stuff from her locker and desk, Brooke bid goodbye to her new colleagues and walked out of the station house towards her parked motorcycle. She was scrambling to get home and inform Ellie of her promotion, knowing that her sister would be even more ecstatic about it than she was.
Swinging her leg over the saddle, she donned her helmet. Sliding the key into the ignition and turning it ignited the heart of the machine with a thunderous growl. The deep rumble resonated through the air, symbolizing the untamed power that lay beneath her.
With a twist of her wrist, Brooke released the clutch and gently rolled on the throttle. The motorcycle responded eagerly, surging forward as if it had been patiently waiting for this moment. As the wheels spun, they left a trail of freedom behind a temporary imprint on the asphalt.
Accelerating onto the open streets, Brooke leaned forward, her body becoming one with the machine. The light breeze brushed past her protected face, as she sliced through the streets like a falcon in flight.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow across the city, Brooke guided her motorcycle back home. She parked her loyal companion, knowing that her journey for the day had come to an end.
With her first day behind her, the young, newly promoted lieutenant looked forward to the oncoming days of work. Ready to embark on a journey of growth, professional development and service to the city she adored. She was determined to lead by example, inspire her team and make a positive difference within the dynamic landscape of the New York Police Department.
