20. Hathaway Corporations

"Take this and get ready," Valentina handed me a wig of short raven hair and a pair of glasses.

"Is this necessary?" Anne made a face of reluctance looking at the reddish-brown wig she was given.

"Unless you want someone to recognize us all, I suggest you make use of those things," Alex replied, annoyed with the tantrums these spoiled rich kids were throwing.

"Why do I have to wear this!? It's all black and covers my handsome face," Lucas groaned when he saw his outfit. Since he and Alex were to be on the roof keeping watch they had to be dressed like spies.

"Whenever I look at you, I am reminded that God really does have a sense of humour," I chuckled and continued, "If you'll have to hide there then do you expect us to provide you with colourful outfits, dim-witted boy," I spoke dryly.

Lucas just glared at me and then rolled his eyes. He really is stupid.

"I think that's enough," Alex gave me a warning glance. I just scoffed and proceeded to make my way to my room to get ready.

---------------

After nearly thirty minutes, all of us met in the lobby with everyone except Lucas and Alex dressed up in formals with our 'disguised features' on.

Valentina had a blonde wig which was enough to make her look completely different. Anna had her wig and contacts on and Lucas and Alex were in all black leather bodysuits, stashed with weapons. Christopher had to just wear blue contacts and nerdy glasses which made him look like a charming geek.

Christopher passed me two non-ferrous guns so that we can pass through security with our weapons. Valentina and Anna were supposed to create the distraction after we got the access key so that we can have enough time to hack and transfer all data files we need.

The most important instrument, the earpiece was passed along to everyone and thoroughly checked for malfunctions.

We were finally ready to go.

------------

Christopher and I now stood in front of a tall building in Mexico City. It had 'Hathaway Corporations' written in big, bold letters at the very top with a globe like logo.

"Ready?" Christopher questioned. I just nodded, not really wanting to speak. "Shouldn't be that hard," he tried to give himself a pep talk, thinking nobody could hear him. He was proved wrong.

"You'll see. And if it isn't hard, let us know," Lucas spoke through the comms. I could picture him standing on the roof with a smug smirk on his face. Idiot.

"Are you incapable of keeping your trap shut?" Valentina hissed at him.

"I think this much fuss is uncharacteristic of you people and absolutely childish," Anne stopped an argument from starting.

Christopher sighed, "Focus, guys."

The two of us made our way into the building as if we owned it. We didn't stop at the front desk and nobody even stopped us because we acted as if we knew where we were going and what we're doing. In reality, we just faked confidence and did not bother to spare a glance to anyone.

As we got into the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor, I was wondering how easy it was to get in here if you have confidence and acting skills.

"Does anyone know who is the temporary CEO or incharge?" I muttered in the comms.

"I tried to do some research but no one outside the company knows," Christopher replied.

"Maybe they don't want anyone to find out who this new CEO is because that might risk his/her life," Valentina hinted.

"Possibly," Alex agreed. I just shrugged not making any assumptions.

"Anna and Valentina, have you guys planned how you'll be creating a distraction for the CEO to come downstairs?" Christopher made sure everything went smooth.

"Oh, don't you worry, I have the perfect plan," Valentina chuckled making her plan seem mischievous.

I muted my earpiece to talk to Christopher without any prying ears or snarky side comments. I signalled him to do the same and as he did I let out a huge puff of air, "Are you sure this is gonna work?" I questioned with uncertainty.

"I don't remember you being this reluctant about all the crazy things we have done before," he furrowed his brows.

"I just have this bad feeling, almost like a sixth sense," I mumbled.

He draped an arm over my shoulder and whispered in my ear, "Nothing will go wrong. You are here to protect me, aren't you?" he cheekily smiled.

"How chivalrous of you," I playfully rolled my eyes.

"But on a serious note, I can assure you we will get out of here alive, okay?" he reassured me and I just nodded not wanting to be paranoid.

I got my earpiece back on and so did Christopher. As we reached the top floor where the office of the CEO is located, we got out of the elevator onto our separate ways.

I made my way to the receptionist, a young man in his early twenties with forest green eyes and messy jet black hair. I had to engage him in a conversation so that he wouldn't take notice of Christopher advancing towards the CEO's cabin.

When he'll find out some scene is 'taking place' on the ground floor he and the temporary CEO both will leave to see what's the matter until then, I will make sure he is not focused.

"Hey," I draped my arm on the reception counter with him standing on the opposite side.

"Hi, how may I help you?" he smiled politely.

"I am just waiting for someone and I got bored so I thought I'd come over here and talk to you if you aren't too busy?" I gave him a charming smile.

He chuckled and nodded, "Sure, I don't have too much work anyway."

"Coffee in the waiting room?" he asked.

I nodded and followed behind him as he leads me to the waiting room. As he made us both some coffee he introduced himself, "My name's Jace, by the way. Yours?"

"Amelia," I smiled and thanked him as he handed me my coffee.

"Amelia," he whispered with a smile, "Nice name," he further complimented.

"Thank you, Jace."

"Jace!!!" a woman shrieked in the lobby and Jace's eyes widened in shock. He looked at me with a sad look and apologized before scurrying off.

"Ashley! Come to the CEO's cabin, I have the key," Christopher urgently muttered in the comms.

I rushed to the cabin and slammed the door open, there Christopher stood waiting in front of the desktop with the access key.

I speed walked till I reached him and snatched the key from him, demanding him to get my laptop out of my bag. He did as I told him while I turned on the desktop and connected it to my laptop.

The sound of clicking on a keyboard filled the room as I furiously typed on my laptop breaking into the desktop and opened up the files saved in it. I scanned the desktop for all encrypted data and I only found one encrypted file named 'Recipe of a Lemonade.'

I inserted the USB like access key on the side of the desktop and clicked on the file to open it. It started loading as a whole page of codes covered my laptop screen. I decided that decrypting it now would be a waste of time so I just broke through all firewalls created as a software barrier to download all data on my laptop.

"The CEO is heading towards the office, get out of there!" Alex warned us.

Christopher was breathing down my neck to hurry up and it was disturbing. As I finished loading all files I quickly scrambled off my seat deleted the history of transfers and shared data and just shoved the access key in one of the drawers.

In the meantime, Christopher opened the glass panel for us to climb out because we couldn't get out through the cabin door. I stuffed my laptop in my bag back and turned around to see Christopher standing by an open window, waiting for me to climb out first.

I furrowed my brows in confusion and proceeded to put one leg out of the window after the other, slowly getting my entire body out. Christopher followed me with a shocked expression.

I guess he thought I'd need help in getting out, I appreciate the thought. We were both now clutching the wall for our lives, trying not to fall to our deaths.

We were dangling fifty storeys in the air having nowhere to go. "Hey guys, we are outside the office. Where do we go?" I breathly asked in the comms.

"There is an elevator on your floor. Use it and come back," Lucas smartly answered.

"Yeah, if that were the case, I wouldn't have asked. We are outside the office, dangling in the air, trying not to fall to our deaths," I muttered while trying not to look at the height below me.

"Scared?" Christopher questioned.

"Oh, no. Not at all. It's not as if we are gonna fall off and die or something, right?" I sarcastically asked him while rolling my eyes at him.

"Guys, there is another window a few feet away from you on your right. It's the storage room, go in there," Alex's concerned voice flow through the comms as I sigh in relief.

"Thanks, man."

We slowly shifted to our right, trying not to slip and fall. After two of the longest minutes of my life, we reached that damn window.

I opened it with care and slowly climbed in, securing the valuable backpack we're risking our lives for. As we both climbed in we fixed our dishevelled appearance and proceeded to take the most embarrassing walk of my entire life.

Christopher walked up to the door with me following right behind him. And as I was walking something caught my attention, more specifically, a certain file in one of the shelves caught my attention. It was named 'Business and Transactions (Gray and Ruth)'.

I picked it up from the shelf and shoved it into my bag, trying to keep it safe until we reach our hideout.

We got out of the tiny room and made our way, once again, from the reception on the floor. Jace was trying to convince someone on the phone whilst sorting out a bunch of papers. When he looked up and saw me, I smiled and waved at him. He couldn't wave back because of his hands being full so he just gave me a big grin.

We entered the elevator and this time we were not so lucky, the elevator was crammed up with employees due it being almost lunch.

I was squished with being pressed chest to chest against Christopher. I looked up when he whispered my name and when I did I noticed just how close we were. There was hardly two inches of space between our faces.

I felt a red blush spread through my cheeks like wildfire and he chuckled in response to my embarrassment. I tried to keep it together but completely lost it when he whispered in my ear, "That blouse and those trousers look really good on you."

"Not a word Christopher, not a word," I muttered in warning, ironically with my very flushed cheeks.

As we proceeded lower and lower the elevator started to empty out significantly. On the ninth floor though, someone entered the elevator, someone who caught my attention. It was a boy in his late teens, a boy I knew. Blake.

What is he doing here? He was dressed in a crisp formal tailored suit with a batch on the right side of his coat. I squinted and caught sight of it saying 'Security Escort'. Is he here to guard someone? He turned towards me and Christopher, and I immediately acted as though I hadn't just narrowed my eyes at him.

Christopher politely smiled at him, unaware of the fact who he is. When Blake's gaze shifted to me, I kept a neutral face with an acknowledging smile while on the inside I was in a mode of panic in fear of him recognising me.

He studied me for a minute and then furrowed his eyebrows as if in trying to recall something. I was literally screaming on the inside and my hands were all clammy because of my nervousness. It could very much be possible he isn't the only one from The Organisation here. Besides, I am not exactly their favourite person as of now.

"Have we met before, miss?" he finally questioned. I mentally sighed in relief, he didn't recognize me yet.

"I don't think so," I replied without hesitation.

"I am sorry, you just seem so familiar," he tried to laugh it off.

I joined in, "Maybe I just have one of those faces."

"No, you actually seem really familiar. Just like one of my co-workers."

The familiar ding of the elevator saved me from Blake as he exited, giving us a curt nod as a goodbye.

"You know him?" Christopher asked.

"He works for The Organisation," I replied as if it were no big deal. Christopher nodded and then realisation hit him. He widened his eyes and whipped his face towards me.

"That's why he thought you were familiar?" he questioned and I nodded.

He huffed and angrily muttered in his breath about me not being safe which caused me to fight back a gleeful smile.

The elevator doors opened once again, this time on the ground floor and both of us stepped out.

"I'll go get Anna and Valentina, you wait here, okay?" he questioned.

I was confused, "Get them from where?"

"They are being held by security due to the scene they created."

"What did they do as a distraction anyway?" I asked as I had muted my comms at that time.

"Uh, pretended to get impregnated by the same man, the owner of the company," he awkwardly replied.

I choked on my saliva and tried my absolute hardest not to burst out into laughter, "Okay, go get them. I'll be waiting here."
