Chapter 19: Believe What You Don't See

Chapter 19: Believe What You Don't See

"N-Nothing" I stuttered as I tried to steady myself and pull out of Peter's grip but he held onto me tightly - something that yet me un-at-ease. "I was just heading in from a walk."

"Yes I heard you went exploring today, I trust everything was to your satisfaction?" He questioned as he smiled at me and shift so that he was now standing by my side with his arm wrapping around my waist.

"Y-Yes. Fine thank you." I nodded as if in an attempt to assure myself. Everything was fine.

"Good." He smiled and started to walk, pulling me alongside him. "I want to show you something."

I didn't bother answering him and just let him led me off into the distance, my mind focussing on letting go of my previous thoughts just in case my lips betrayed me. We walked down the endless always until coming to a stop in front of a large pair of double doors. Peter squeezed my hand reassuringly and stepped forward to open the door.

The large room and me in awe. The double story walls were packed from floor to ceiling with bookshelves and a large widow that opened up the room letting it enlighten the room with bright rays of sunlight that was now dimming as the sun finally set and the stars began to shin in the sky. "It's beautiful."

"Just like you." He smiled and took my hand, placing a small kiss on my hand before pulling me further into the room.

Peter led me to the collection of arm chairs and couches situated in front of a fire place. I sat down and smiled at Peter as he began to show me his favourite books and the books he recommended me to read before he started off about his plans for the kingdom and our wedding.

"We can have it in the gardens. You'd like that wouldn't you?" He asked as he turned back to me. I hadn't actually said yes yet, I was still clutching to the idea that he may let me go home when he decided I wasn't actually what he wanted in a prospective wife. "Oh or by the lake? It's beautifl but... maybe not, bad luck." He said trailing off into a mutter as he came to terms with the legend of the lake that Logan had enlightened me towards.

"But with you as my Queen, think of what we could do." He beamed at me in pure glee.

I let my smile drop for a mere second as I came to the realization that I would never again go home if I were to stay here.

"What's wrong?" His voice questioned me softly as his hand stroked my skin gently in an attempt to coo me.

"Will I ever be able to visit home? I left a family behind, friends, people who will miss me." I lied slightly, yes I left people behind but apart from Danni, no one would notice me gone for a good long while and I feared he already knew it.

"Shh." He tried to hush but his grip on my skin became a little more forceful. He gripped my face making me pull back and recoil in an attempt to escape his clutches but he only gripped me hard. Peter tilted my head up so that I was looking up into his eyes. I watched as his normally bright eyes began to erupt to become like a black cloud, swallowing the bright colour and taking over the entirety of his eyes. I got lost in his eyes momentarily before I quickly snapped back with a gruelling realization.

I had seen this before, with Logan when he compelled the Good Samaritan that had stopped to help me.

I knew that I couldn't be compelled and now that Pater was trying to do just that I knew I had to play along otherwise he would discover my secrete and no doubt use more extreme tactics to get me to do whatever it is he wants me to.

"You will forget about your old life. Nothing will matter to you but me from now on." He said forcefully making me freeze completely. "Now go to your room and go straight to sleep."

I stared blankly at him before nodding my head silently and standing from my spot on the plump arm chair before walking off, out of the library and towards my bedroom. I walked mindlessly through the corridors unsure and shaking with fear. I didn't know what to do. He would soon find out that I wore contacts and couldn't be compelled for the fact that I had very poor eyesight and what would he do with me then? Could I simply give up my life and play the obedient mind-controlled girl pretending to be his slave of a wife for the rest of my days or would I snap? My money was on snap.

I thought for a moment. What if I ran? Could I escape? If maybe one day I pretended to go for a walk and wondered into the sewers and ran like hell to get to the Underground, I could work my way back to the human realm from there I was sure of it. But would they come back for me? Hunt me down as if I were some stray rabid dog about to maul at one of their children? I was sure they would.

I swallowed the lump building in my throat trying to cut off my oxygen and took a deep laboured breath as I fought the tears that began to spring into my eyes. I just need to make it too my room, then I would let myself cry out my fears and hopefully in the morning my rational mind shall return to me once again and I could save myself like I had tried to save Logan only hours ago. Turning into my room I shut my door and leaned against the wood, letting my body go limp and my knees give way.

Tears began rushing down my cheeks leaving pale streaks in their wake as my sobs took hold of my body. I pulled my legs closer to my chest and balled myself up as if trying to protect myself from an invisible force that was threatening me. I felt the coolness of the two chains pressing against my skin and pulled out the medallion that Logan had told me to hold on to and began turning it my hands, my fingers ran over the patterning and engraving as I used the it to calm myself down and slow my sobs to the small hiccups that now held me prisoner.

Hugging it too my chest, I closed my eyes and let my last tear fall from my eye and land on the medallion, sliding down the pattern and lighting up the words engraved on the back - making them almost glow a bright gold.

Believe what you don't see and see what you don't believe.

What the hell did that mean?

The medallion began to shake in my hands making me recoil at the sudden change and throw the object across the room and scream as black smoke began to pour out of it like an uncontrollable leak. The sounds echoing from outside told me that the guard had heard my screams and were coming to my aid but I was still in shock, staring at the black smoke as it began to form a... is that a person?

My door burst open catching my attention and tearing my gaze away from the black smoke and over towards the guards that were now burst into the room. They looked at me with worried expression before everything froze. I frowned in confusing as I pealed myself up off the floor and took a step closer, looking at the guards as they stood frozen in action as if time had paused.

What the hell? I swear things just keep getting weirder and weirder.

I reached out and waved my hand in front of their faces like the idiot I am trying to get their attention.

"When you're done acting like a five year old, I would really like to leave now." A deep husky voice came from just behind me near my ear making me jump and yelp as I turned around ready to seriously injure whatever was trying to sneak up on me.

"Logan" I breathed as a smile took over my lips and I rushed into his arms just needing the safety that I felt the last time I was here, in the arms of an angel.

Logan squeezed me close to him as I buried my head in his chest and soothed me, kissing the top of my head and patting my hair. "Don't worry, I'll get you out of here." He cooed me. "But on a more urgent note, we only have about ten more seconds before the spell wears off."

Logan gripped my hand tightly and led me to the balcony. I wasted no time in wrapping my arms around him tightly and letting him hold me as his wings spread out wide and began taking us up into the air.

The destination? I simply didn't care.

Gust of wind turned around us, my hair was waving in every direction getting caught up like a whirlwind but the only thing I could see was Logan's eyes glistening like the only light in the darkness that surrounds us. They mesmerised me once more. The way the crystal blue sparkled and the perfect contrast with everything around us seemed to make them just as breathtaking then before.

Logan's wings began to spread out as we came to a stop and the dark swirl of the strong gusts of wind stilled to a calming and peaceful breeze. I looked down - big mistake - and almost hurled at the height as we were on top of what must be the tallest building in New York that dwarfed the others, the sun was setting here and the lights turned on in the city like a wave, lighting it up like a Christmas tree. The sight was mesmerising.

"I realized I never let you see the best of New York the first time." He whispered huskily as he gripped me tighter and held me close so that I wouldn't fall. "So this is me making up for lost time."

He Held me as I looked around and took everything in. Watching the city life from above. We waited until the moon was full in the sky before Logan placed my two feet on the ground and we wondered back over to the old station and Logan held my hand tightly as he pulled me along down the tracks. Getting to the door Logan makes quick work of the door by pulling out his dagger and letting his blood run over the door making it open. Logan reached out for me and held me in his arms before stepping into the darkness.

We landed with a thud as our feet hit the ground and I began looking around the place. It was exactly the same as it was the last time I was here only the candles burned a lot brighter then I first remembered. Logan smiled at me as his hands cupped my face and thumbs gently grazed over my cheeks feeling the softness of my skin before his lips came down on mine. He bit down playfully on my bottom lip before taking the piece of flesh into his mouth and sucking on it making me moan into his mouth. I leaned into the kiss as it became a collision of our hidden passions making my heart flutter and my stomach muscles clench.

"Uh hum" Someone cleared their throat making us spring apart breathless and face a rather amused Marco as he leaned against the opened door with a few creatures I didn't recognise standing at attention behind him. "Sorry to interrupt but I would prefer you to be behind the studded door." He spoke. "As of five minutes ago we are now at war."

My heart seemed to stop at those words. I looked back at Logan to see his face hard as stone as he processed what Marco had said.

What have I done?
