Chapter 1: Fear the Shadows.
Chapter 1: Fear the Shadows.
He watch her from his seat by the window, her light blond hair that was almost white shined like gold in the summer sun. She wore a polite smile that reached from ear to ear as she served the customers at the counter of the small bakery. With a slim body with slight curves and sea green eyes she was defiantly considered beautiful but he still couldn’t see the appeal.
He looked down at the picture in his hand and back up at her.
Yep, this was the one, no doubt about it. Now how do I get her out of here without making too much of a scene and gaining too much attention?
He looked around trying to look for a diversion but came up with nothing.
The bell above the door sounded catching his attention, making him look up. He watched as the big tall muscular blond walked past the tables and took a seat across from him.
“So is that her” the blond man said gesturing to the girl.
“Yes. Did you do what I asked you Conner?” he said getting straight to the point. He hated when people dawdled.
“Of course. So how are you going to get her out of here?”
“I don’t know”
“Need help?”
“No, I want you to go underground and deal with Marco, I don’t want to be dragging her around the country side kicking and screaming.” Even though that’s more than likely exactly what’s going to happen knowing my luck.
“And what if he doesn’t cooperate?”
“Make him” He commanded through clenched teeth.
“I know you may have trouble believing this Logan but not everyone does what I tell them to and if I go in there trigger happy we’re only going to have bigger problems and I’ll probably be dead.”
He sighed running his hands through his jet black hair.
He was right, if Marco doesn’t listen then all hell will break loss and the underground will become a battle ground.
“If you can’t convince him to do what his told then call me and I’ll make him.”
There that settled it.
Conner nodded in understanding before turning back to the girl at the counter, she truly was as beautiful as he had heard but he also knew that Logan wasn’t exactly the best person for bringing her back.
What was Peter thinking giving Logan this task, he will more than likely kill her and say she went sleep walking off a cliff?
“Why are you still here?” Logan asked getting impatient with Conner.
“Relax, I’m leaving. Just make sure you get her there in one piece”
“Why does everyone keep saying that?”
“Because we know what you’re like and you’re more likely to kill her then bring her back alive”
“Gee thanks for the confidence.”
“Tell me you weren’t planning to knock her out.”
Logan stared at him narrowing his jet black eyes.
Damn it! He’s on to me. It was the only plan I had come up with to get her back without her kicking and screaming and complaining all of the way there. Maybe if I just put a bag over her head and gag her, yeah that could work too.
“I won’t knock her out” he said after thinking up his new plan.
“Or gag her?”
He looked at him in disbelief.
How did he know? Did I say that all out loud?
“I thought you were leaving?”
Conner chuckled shaking his head slightly.
“I’m leaving don’t worry” he got up from his seat and took a few steps towards the door before turning back to face Logan “Oh and be nice” he said laughing and walking back out of the room.
Logan watched his friend walk out of the bakery and then went back to observing the girl at the counter.
He decided to wait until she left the bakery before he made his move, it would be the easiest way to get to her without causing a scene.
He left some notes on the table paying for the drink he ordered but never touched and walked out of the bakery. Hiding in the shadows of the tall sky scrapers he waited for his moment of opportunity.
I reached up and pulled the roller shutter down to cover the glass windows of the shop. Locking them shut I turned to Danni who was closing the door.
“Ready?” I asked her throwing my bag over my shoulder.
“Yep, where did you park your car?” she asked me as we started walking down the street.
“Across the road in the parking lot.”
“Are you an idiot, it cost like seven bucks.”
“I know but I was running late and I didn’t have time to circle the block looking for a park.”
“Do you want me to walk you to your car?” She asked like the concerned friend she was.
“No, I’m fine” I said smiling at her. She was so protective it was cute and defiantly her best quality, although most guys didn’t like the fact that she could probably drop them on their ass in a second flat.
“Are you sure there are some real creeps out there?”
“Relax, I have pepper spray” I told her patting my bag. After all of the self-defence classes Danni made me take with her over the past eight years we have known each other I knew how to do some damage if someone tried to mug me.
“Get on your phone and stay on, understand?”
“Fine” I said rolling my eyes and pulled out my phone, quickly calling her I continued to talk to her whilst walking to my car.
“Ok I’m hanging up now, I’m at my car and need to go fishing for my keys which requires both hands”
“Fine, be that way”
“Bye Dan”
“Bye Brit love you”
“Love you too” I said and hung up the phone and throwing it in my bag.
I started fishing around in my bag for my keys. I know you’re in here, where did you go?
I heard rustling behind me and felt a breeze on the back of my neck. I spun around on my heel looking around in the dark and deserted parking lot. There were shadows everywhere making it impossible to see anything in great detail. Where were all the lights when you needed them?
My heart was racing as numerous horror movies flooded to mind. Was there someone wearing a hockey mask and holding a chainsaw going to come out from behind a car and start chasing me? Or more along the lines of a killer clown trying to kill me, yep that’s enough to make me run like headless chicken.
I shook my head clearing it of any thoughts. It was all in my head, there was no one in the shadows; it was all in my head! I kept repeating to myself hoping with the more times I said it I might start believing it.
I started shifting through my bag quickly until I felt the coolness of the keys. Grabbing them I almost screamed and did a happy dance in the car park, which I would have if I wasn’t petrified that someone might be watching me.
A strong gust of wind blew past me throwing my hair up in all directions and causing it to cover my eyes. I felt something warm and smooth brush my hand making me scream and fall back and drop my nag and keys on the ground. With my back against the car and my hair in my face I couldn’t tell what touched me.
Pushing my hair back I looked around, but there was nothing around. I must be going in insane; I swear maybe I do belong in a mental hospital.
I bent down and started picking up my things, only my keys were missing. I stood up and pulled at the door handle in hopes it may magically open on its own. No such luck. I needed to get to somewhere that had a security guard, I knew there was one in the building, and all I had to do was make it to the door.
Turning around and walking towards the door I heard my car unlock. Shit this was not good.
I turned around slowly seeing the silhouette of a figure just behind my car. Really not good, run, run now! Why aren’t you running you idiot, its one foot in front of the other, just run!
With my body finally listening to me I started to run flat out towards the door. Only a few feet away I looked back to see if he was following me, only there was no one there. Did I imagine it? No I didn’t, I could have bet my life that he was there. In the end that’s what I am betting, my life, if I stayed he might kill me, I needed to run just in case.
I turned back around to the door and saw the figure again blocking my path to the door. That was the only way out and his giant figure was blocking it.
I was stuck, there was nowhere to go. I tightened my grip on my bag and pulled out my pepper spray. This was going to hurt you ten times more then it it’s going to hurt me buddy.
He started to walk towards me, his body coming more in to the light with each step. I saw his strong muscular frame first, then his strong jaw line with a five o’clock shadow, piercing black eyes that reminded me of a black hole, sucking you in and lastly his jet black hair that was spiked in all directions.
I felt a lump form in my throat and I wanted to scream out, I wanted too but seemed to have lost the will to. He was within reach now and I could smell mint coming off him. He didn’t smell like a serial killer if that made any sense. Why are you thinking about how he smells? Just spray him already! The voice inside my head screamed at me.
He looked down at me holding eye contact.
“Now be a good girl and don’t scream” He told me, his voice like a melody. He was hypnotising to the point of no return, I felt like I was in a daze.
As if delayed his words finally resisted, don’t scream like hell I won’t scream! I turned around hoping to run but his hand caught me, his grip was bruising my arm already and his hands were cold to touch. That can’t be normal.
With my mind coming back to the now I spun around pressing down on the can of pepper spray in my right hand, spraying it in his eyes he quickly stumbled backwards his hands going from my arm to his eyes.
“You little bitch!”
I turned around and kicked him in the only place I knew I would get a response from a man. He leaned down crouch over swearing like a trooper at me. Taking this opportunity I sprinted past him throwing open the door and ran down the hallway looking for help. I don’t understand there should be security guards somewhere around here.
I stopped looking around. I don’t know where to go.
My panic had long since taken over, my heart was racing, my hands were shaking and I couldn’t seem to think straight.
I spun around again to check if he had followed me and crashed into a hard chest. Slowly I moved my eyes up to his face and felt my throat begin to close in my panicked state.
“You shouldn’t have done that”
He raised his hand and hit me hard, I felt my legs give way and my head coiled with the ground. I felt as he bent down and picked me up over his shoulder, I couldn’t move no matter how much I wanted to kick and scream at him.
I closed my eyes giving in to the darkness.
Please read the next chapter before you decide if you like it or not, this one was just setting things in motion. Thanx
