Chapter 6: Wrong side of the road

We'd been on the road for a while until we appeared at this abandoned town. Most of the towns were bombed to stop the spread of infection until they realized that even though the people died the virus didn't. They came back like mutated monsters. Honestly like zombies, but it's so rare and they die off pretty fast. We've only had to deal with a couple, with their lack of food source, I think they're dying out on their own.

Besides that point, it's driving me crazy that Raiden is still acting as if nothing happened. It kind of sucks cause I really thought there was something there. I mean he's not even holding eye contact with me.

"Hey, why don't we check it out?" Raiden said glance over the wrecked houses. There might as well be tumbleweed flying amongst them.

"Its a waster, there's nothing here..."

He turned off the car and began to unlock the doors, "I better check it out".

He walked off in the no man's land. I mean who does he think he is, there's clearly nothing, wait a minute... ZOMBIE!!!!!

"Cool!" I finally get a chance to use my shotgun. I peeked my head out through the head of the car and aimed. I like to mess with them, wait till they get close and then shoot their legs off and work my way up.

Bam! Bam! Right, when I'm about to shoot the heart a guy came running out of a house? There's a zombie chasing him? Oh shit, he needs help!

I aimed it shot the one behind him, I just realized I never killed the one coming towards me. It started climbing up the front of the car like a rabid dog. Bam! Bam! Two shots to the head.

This stranger ran to my car, "Thank you, thank..."

Before he could finish his sentence I had my gun aimed at his head. "I'll shoot!"

"Please don't... fuck!" He said dropping his hands onto his knees trying to catch his breath.

"You got to help me, you're the first person I've seen in months, I'm going crazy," He said.

"Months?" He gave me an odd look and then I reloaded my gun, it made a nice click so he backed away from the car, he looked like he was gonna piss himself.

"I haven't seen a person in 2 years, explain..." I said moving the gun up from his chest back up to his head.

"My names Lucas, me and my family lived in Kansas city in this isolation city, and then those fucking things came, and I walked here, or ran. Look I've been living off cans I find, I don't know what else to tell you but I have a calendar, I've been keeping track. Today is April 17th" He started to hand me the calendar shaking his hand rapidly.

I grabbed it and resumed my aim. What the hell? I noticed something more odd than the fact that he's been keeping track of the dates, but that his head was shaved clean, was he really maintaining himself without help.

From a distance, I heard a shout, "Tara!!!" Raiden was being held back by 2 big guys one black the either caucasian while an older woman held a gun to the back of his head.

"Raiden?" I held my gun down in shock, that was my first mistake. Next thing I knew I was being hit over the head with a rock and was knocked out cold.

I woke up tied to a poll with Raiden by my side. The older woman I saw from before began pouring motor oil all over us. Her grey hair was shoulder length and thinning out. The only thing worse than her wrinkled skin was how yellow her teeth were.

She got closer to my face, and spoke with her cigarette filled breathe, "What the hell are you doing here?"

She held up a lighter to my face, "I'll light you up sweetheart, you walked onto the wrong side of the road".
