The Meet Cute
A quick knock on the door
"May I come in? I'm here to fix the telly."
Introduced, we say hi, neither too shy
And the questions just start coming
Seeing a saxophone in the corner, I jump right in
"So you play the sax, I see?"
"Classical sax, though, not really jazz."
Hey, that's quite alright with me
"I play piano...classical, like you...and not so good at jazz either."
"I played piano for a bit, but didn't continue...I really wish I had."
Then came a delay as the T.V. channels displayed
But all Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and Armenian...egads!
"Excuse me while I retire to the roof to check the blasted antennae."
"Not a problem," you say with a smile
So I step out and make the climb up the ladder
Upon the roof, my mind wanders, and I burn myself on a hot tile
I was thinking of you...your cute red bow
Your beautiful brown eyes and hair
Your lovely voice and adorable spunk
Your skin so alabaster fair
The antennae corrected, or so I thought
Back down, I made my way
Setting the T.V. to search again
I turned to you to say
"I see you have video games. Is your guy a gamer?"
"How come you didn't ask if they're mine?"
"My apologies...that was to be my next question."
"Some are his, and some are, indeed, mine."
As you pulled from your bag a Game Boy Micro
A smile formed on my face
And then you revealed Drill Dozer engaged
"It's fun. I played it back in the day."
"I also beat Minish Cap not too long ago," you beamed
"Oh, I also like that one!"
"That's awesome! So many people said nay, but I liked it."
So we had common ideas of fun
Then the T.V. was ready once again
And we turned with our fingers crossed
But once again we were met
With languages that left us lost
"I wish I spoke another language," you said
"But you do," as I pointed to your sax
"Oh, you!" you said in such an adorable way
My heart instantly melted like a burning candle's wax
After another two tries and still no English
No standard channels in view
I apologized, a bit embarrassed
And wished I had another reason to linger with you
But alas there was naught else to do
Defeated by the blasted T.V.
Another solution would have to be sought
And I hoped for another opportunity to meet
"Farewell. It was a pleasure to meet you."
"Indeed, it was nice to meet you too."
"I hope to hear you play the sax one day."
You smiled, then chuckled, "Oh, thank you!"
I turned to leave, feeling lead in my shoes
Never walked so slowly to my car
My heart lighter than air, yet heavier than rocks
Having met such a fair shooting star
Will I see you again someday? Our conversation continue?
Will this just be a moment in time?
Will we smile, share, and chuckle together again?
Or will you be a fond memory in my mind?
Such is the meet cute...who knows where it goes?
A mysterious, magical journey
Keep watching the movie to find out the ending
Meanwhile my heart will keep yearning
