Harmonica Man
Lived life in a simple way that was all your own
Ran away with the circus, just another lonely clown
Finally had a family, but couldn't quite settle down
Found some peace playin' a piece on your fancy ol' harmonica
Wandered like a vagabond, rummaged through the trash
Dressed to impress in a hardhat and a rhinestone covered vest
Never worried 'bout making due with whatever was around
Secondhand was always best, stored away in your treasure chest
You had a favorite song: "Star of the East"
A burnin' desire, a secret wish
Wanted to play up front, to share your gift
Blues sent straight to heaven, givin' praise with everyone
The day finally came when they let you play
Up front like all the rest, you proudly took your place
Put your mouth to your harp, gave it your best
Those who listened merely humoring, but as you played you heard angels sing
Didn't matter what they heard or what they thought
Saw it through to the end, then smiled and left
Having played from the heart right from the start
Sure of a job well done, hoping to share another one
Harp's a-hummin'
Stumblin' and bumblin'
Oooh, Harmonica Man
What appears
When the ear hears?
Oooh, Harmonica Man
