Chapter 2 - Xael
"Alright you Rookies, stand in line and shaddap. We got a big schedule ahead of us so behave like the good kids you all should be." A man shouted, pacing back and forth from the line of people that he commanded as officers and other high rankings. He glanced at me, the only blue haired female in the group at the end of the line before turning back around. I bent down and grabbed the musket down at my feet, stabbing it into the ground and leaning on it. The man finished not long later and we were all dismissed. "Hey, Xael!" A male voice called after me, I didn't recognize the voice so I kept walking. "Hey, when I can your name you better-"
"What do you want?" I asked, turning around. I had a cold look in my eyes and I looked at the male in front of me. His gang and he chuckled as I answered him, the 'leader' of the group walking towards me.
"You're a beauty, wanna go have a drink with us?"
"No." I immediately answered, giving it no thought to his question.
"Why not? You'll have a break from you slutty mother." He asked again, reaching out and stroking my blue hair.
"First off, I don't even know you. Second off, if I go with you, there's a high chance that you'll take me to some alley and have sex with me. Also, it's not a good idea to call someone's mother a slut before asking them to a drink." I answered sincerely, taking his hand off of my hair.
"The name's Yehudi, for your information." He called after me as I walked away from everyone else. I sighed as I walked into town, seeing my little home on the outskirts of town.
"I'm home!" I yelled, stepping into the house. My boots echoed loudly around the house and I made my way to my bed, laying down and sprawling out.
"How was it?" Babette asked, walking into my room. She sat down on my bed and looked at me.
"Bad, one of the only girls there. Then some guy asked me to have a drink after the whole thing."
"Why didn't you go with him?"
"I'm saving it for another time," I answered, taking off my dark blue jacket and throwing at the teen. A sigh escaped my lips as I undid my belt and took off my boots.
"When is another time, Xael?"
"When something bad happens," I replied, sitting down next to Babette. "Hey, where's mom?"
"She said that she went to town to get some time to eat. Don't know when she'll be though." Babette explained, throwing my jacket off of her and gently placing it on my shoulders. At that moment, the door opened with a bang and the sound of cans hit the table. Both Babette and I hopped up and went to the kitchen, seeing mom putting everything on our small table. I went up to her and helped her and put everything up, sitting down at the table. Mom then walked over to me and stroked my hair, leaning down and kissing it. "I know that you're doing great, Xael." She muttered softly before leaving the room.
"I find it lucky how you're an officer already."
"Well, I don't," I replied, laying my head down on the table.
A few weeks later, I was holding a blue flag with a white symbol while walking through the town. People were lined up on either side of the street, cheering us off. Some held miniature flags of the one held off and little kids walked with us, pretending to be in the army. I saw Mom and Babette standing at the end, I smiled at them before I left. When we left the city, the higher ranks come up in front with their horses and led the way to where we were going to fight at.
During our walk there, my hands got sweaty under the leather gloves and my heart starting out of pain, I guess that you can say that I was afraid. People behind me were whispering about what was on their minds and how pumped up for this one fight and stuff like that. "Are you excited for this, Xael?" Yehudi asked, a soft smile on his face.
"I guess you could say that..." I replied, moving my bangs back. "I mean, I'm not upset about it nor am I extremely happy about it. You could just say that I'm average."
"Ah, ok. I thought that you're ready to get this over with."
"Why's that?"
"To be honest, I actually want this to be over. This is technically like a fight for the newbs, y'know?"
"Yea, I guess that's true..." I sighed a little, looking back to the crowd behind me. It was a mix of facial expressions, somewhere scared, some were happy, and some I couldn't identify.
"Hey Xael, let's make a bet," Yehudi announced after a while.
"Okay, that's fine."
"If we win, then you have to come with me to the bar, if not, then I get to leave you alone."
"Okay, but I'd rather go to the bar with you to tease if we lose. Seems fair to me." I replied swiftly. Yehudi nodded in agreement as we continued to walk in silence.
As the army continued to walk in silence, some people talking a bit, a wave of red came towards us. People immediately drew their weapons and shoved them up in the air. I watched the red wave come more and more like people and less than a giant blob of nothingness. I raised my hand and looked at Yehudi, who was looking at our opponents. "Don't forget our bet."
"I won't dolly, so don't worry about a thing." He replied and slung his weapon over his shoulder.
"Go!" I yelled, throwing my arm down and blowing a whistle, watching everyone run and clash with the Reds. The clanging of metal echoed the air and screams of justice. It was a large crowd in the middle that if you were far up enough in the sky, would think it was a giant red and blue circle. I was just fighting whoever was coming towards me, red or blue.
After a while, I left the circle and gripped into my sword, panting a bit. "Hey, lady! You look lonely, let's fight!" Someone yelled from behind. I turned around and saw a large and muscular man walking towards me. My heart stopped for a little bit and then I walked over to him, shaking a little bit. He swung at me and I blocked him, sliding on the ground a little. The man smirked a little and started swing at me, not stopping until I gave up.
After a while, he stopped to catch his breath and to think of a plan. I had cuts all over my body and rips in my clothing, little stings of pain every time I moved. He smirked and swung at me again, knocking me off my feet. "I can't believe that someone this weak is the commanding officer!" He yelled, swayed a little. I got up and grabbed my sword and swung it upwards, slitting the side of his neck and his cheek. He got scared and fumbled backward, running away from me and back to the red group. I let out a sigh of relief and turned around, seeing Yehudi. He smiled at me as held his fist up, offering me a fist bump as we made it back to our group. "Well, looks like you win this bet." He said jokingly as he smiled while everyone was celebrating our small victory.
"Seems like it," I replied boastful, laughing a bit in my victory. Yehudi laughed also and nudged my arm. Our leader came up to the group and gave firm pats on the back to everyone while we celebrated.
"It seems like it." Yehudi laughed a bit and placed his hand on my shoulder. "But let me take you out anyway because we won, it's my treat to you."
"Okay then, that works." I smiled at him as we walked with everyone back up to the small town we were temporarily staying in.
"Well, I'll be looking forward to it, commander." He slyly smiled as we parted ways to our own room we were assigned. I closed the door and sighed, taking off my jacket and throwing it onto the couch while I collapsed onto the waiting couch and sighed again. I rolled over, my hair sprawling over the couch and my face, closing my eyes as I drifted off to sleep.....
