Chapter 5: The Mission Outside
________________________________________________________________________

Ursa's POV
Today, like everyday in Konoha, is hot as the sun burns my skin. Cringing in disgust, I stay to the shade avoiding any source of light. The woods I'm currently treading through, covers me from the harsh sunlight. But that doesn't mean that I'm cool and relaxed. Running past trees and bushes, I stay light on my feet even though the said action burns my lungs. It makes it worse that I'm completely covered in black clothing.

But I don't curse myself, no, I curse this mission.

A simple D Ranked mission to capture a run away cat, named Tora. How can a simple mission be so tedious? Oh, I don't know, maybe if the cat wasn't running everywhere!

I must say, Tora's a whole lot smarter than I expected! He keeps escaping us, he's playing and making us look like fools!

I like, no, love, cats, but this specific cat is getting on my nerves. Watching as the feline stop, I quickly stop in my actions and hide behind a tree.

"Everyone, what's your position," the static of Kakashi's voice fills my ears through the com-link.

"Sasuke, point B," the Uchiha informs us.

"Sakura, point C," she tells us.

I heavily sigh. "Ursa, point D, I guess," I state with boredom.

"Ursa, I get that this mission isn't exciting, but stop being lazy," Kakashi scold my lack of motivation.

Look who's talking, Mr. 'Sorry I was late', I roll my eyes.

"Naruto, point A," the voice of Naruto finally enters my ears.

"Naruto, you're too slow," Kakashi reminds the knuckle head. Through the com-link I could hear him sigh. "What's your distance from the target," he asks.

Walking slightly forward, I could see the brown cat walk leisurely, without a care in the world. I go to follow it, but someone grabs my arm, pulling me back. I bite my tongue to stop myself from releasing a high pitched scream.

"Five meters," Sasuke says from besides me.

Shooting him a sideways glare, I also answer, "me too."

"So am I," Sakura replies.

"Me too, I'm ready any time," Naruto confirms with anticipation.

Releasing myself from Sasuke's hold, I peak from behind the tree and towards the cat, who currently digging its claws into the ground. Inching closer, I make sure that I don't step on any twigs that could alarm Tora of my presence. I'm practically tiptoeing as I slowly close the distance between us.

"Go," Kakashi initiates our move.

Since, I'm closest, I literally dive towards the cat. I smile in success as I feel its fur in between my hands. Lifting Tora from the ground, I bring him closer to my chest. He yowls and mewls with distress as he digs its claws into my arms.

I wince, but it doesn't hurt since I've had a cat who constantly scratched me back in my old life. Since Tora is scared and full of alarm, I bring one of my hands up and gently scratch his head. When he calms down, I move my hand to pet him, running it down his back in a repetitive motion.

"We got it, believe it," Naruto cheers.

"Ribbon on the left ear? Are you sure this is the target, Tora," Kakashi asks.

"Yeah, we're sure," Sasuke says as he walks up to me, looking at the cat in my arms.

"Good, lost pet 'Tora' search mission is complete," Kakashi informs us.

Naruto walks up to me, eyeing the cat before he turns on his heels. "Why can't we get a better mission," he screams with angry hand motions.

I wince at the volume in my ears as the com-link squeals in protest. As my ears ring, I send a glare towards Naruto.

Man, all this heat and getting mauled isn't worth it if I go deaf, I frown.

"Here, let me take Tora," Sakura says as she walks up to me.

Turning my body away from her, I look over shoulder and hiss at her. Giving her a glare, I look back at a purring Tora and hug him. No one, I mean no one, takes the cat away from me!

###

Standing in the Hokage's office, I feel conflicted as the Madam Shijimi, the Fire Country Lord's wife, squeezes Tora against her massive chest. I listen to his mewls of distress as he tries to get away from her affections. I inch closer, raising my arm as I make an attempt to walk forward. But a hand clamps on my shoulder, stopping me. Turning my head, I look up to Sasuke and watch as he shakes his head. Seeing that as a sign to stop, I slump my shoulders in defeat.

"Ooh, my cute, little Tora-chan, I was so worried," Madam Shijimi cries, tightening her hold on the cat.

I'm so sorry, Tora-chan~!

Looking at my other teammates, I see Naruto with a smug look on his face. Sakura, she has a look of concern on her face, worried for the cat. Sasuke, my bestest friend in the world, has his regular look, no emotion. Kakashi just sighs like usual.

At least Sakura cares.

Next, I watch as the plump woman pays for the job she requested and walks away. As the door closes after her, I sigh dejectedly.

"Now, Kakashi's Team 7, your next task is, hmm. Baby sitting an elder's grandson, shopping in the neighboring village, and help with the potato digging," the Hokage informs as he reads us the selective.

Potatoes sound nice. An army of potatoes sounds much better. Do potatoes have genders? Or are they hermaphrodites? Do potatoes have standards? Do they have feelings? Potatoes...french fries, mash potatoes, baked potatoes, potato chips, mmm food!

"No! No! No! No, thank you!!! I want to do, you know a more incredible mission! Find us a better one," Naruto screams as he crosses his arms, jolting me out of my thoughts.

I quirk an eyebrow at him before nodding with agreement. I agree, even though I don't want to possibly die.

"IDIOT!!! You are just a rookie! Everyone starts off with the simple duties and works their way up! You have no experience," Iruka-sensei scolds.

"But, but! We keep getting the crappiest possible duties," Naruto retorts heatedly.

"Be quiet," Kakashi punches Naruto on the head, making him face-plant.

I sigh, raising my hand. "Ano, Iruka-sensei, you say we don't have experience, right? Well, how do you expect us to gain experience if you don't let us do harder missions. We won't learn anything with simple D-rank missions," I explain with a steady voice.

He goes to say something, but no words escape his lips. He's speechless. Ha, looks like I won!

But my victory is short-lived as the Hokage speaks up.

"Naruto, Ursa, it seems that I have to explain to you, what these duties are all about. Listen, everyday the village receives missions from babysitting to assassination. Each request is written down on these lists and divided into A, B, C, D ranking based on difficulty. The village is also divided based on skill. Starting with me, to Jounin, Chunin, then to Genin. The missions are then handed by us at the top to ninjas based on their abilities. And if the duty is completed successfully, we receive payment from the client. You guys just recently became Genin. D rank missions are perfect for you," he explains in easy terms so we could understand.

But I already knew this. Perks to being a Naruto fan like all you readers out there.

"Last night I had pork ramen, so miso sounds good-"

"Hey! Listen," the Hokage yells at my teammates who aren't listening.

I chuckle, shaking my head at them. Sasuke sends me a glare, I just respond with a closed eye smile. He totally wants me!

"I-I a-apologize," Kakashi says, running the back of his head.

"Geez! All you do is give lectures like that! But you know what!? I'm not the trouble making brat you still think I am," Naruto exclaims before crossing his arms and angrily pouting.

I smirk, right. I then watch as Iruka's shocked face turns to a sincere smile.

Hiruzen chuckles, "okay."

"Huh," comes the smart answer of Naruto.

"If you want it that much, I'll give you a C rank mission. It's a protection mission of a certain individual," the Hokage tells us.

"Who!? Who!? Is it a Feudal Lord? A princess," Naruto asks excitedly.

"Calm down, I'm about to introduce him. Hey, will you come in here," Hiruzen says before calling our client.

Cue the smell of alcohol.

As the the door opens, I turn my head and cross my arms, awaiting our client. Tazuna's dazed eyes set on us before he takes a swig of his sake. Swallowing the alcohol, he narrows his eyes.

"What's this? They're all a bunch of super brats! Especially the shortest one with the idiotic look on his face. Are you really a ninja," he grumbles, looking us.

Ha!

"And you! Are you a boy or a girl? I can't tell with the dumb look on your face," he adds.

My eye twitches.

Dumb look!? Is he calling my face dumb?

Breathe...

Calm down...

Ignore him...

B-breathe...

"Dumb look?! I'll show you who's dumb," I screech as I jump to claw his face off.

"I'll kill you," Naruto also screams, realizing that he's the shortest; Sasuke being the tallest, then me, Sakura follows, and lastly him.

Unfortunately, none of us get to taste our revenge as Kakashi pulls the collars of our jackets, halting our actions. Even though I'm being held in place, I still attempt to claw his face.

No one makes fun of my looks and gets away with it, I think as I hiss at Tazuna.

"What's the point of killing the client we're supposed to protect? Idiot," Kakashi scold Naruto. "Ursa, stop behaving like a cat! You're a ninja, act like one."

I slump, he's right.

"Hn, idiot," Sasuke smirks, looking at me. I give him a flat look.

"I'm the super expert bridge builder, Tazuna. I expect you to give me super protection until I get back to my country and complete the bridge," Tazuna tells us.

There's a thing such as a 'super expert'? Must be awesome.

Cue my heavy dose of sarcasm.

"Meet at the gates in an hour," Kakashi tells us.

"Aye sir," I mock salute.

###

Running through my apartment, I pack all the necessary items such as clothes, weapons, food, etc. But I also pack things to keep me occupied like a few books, my sketch book, and my glasses. Yes, I wear glasses, but I only need them for when I'm reading. Otherwise, I can see somewhat perfect.

Since I'm going to be gone for I don't know how long, maybe a few weeks at most, I water my plants. Cacti don't really need that much water since they absorb it. But the others, I give them plenty of water, but not too much that I drown them.

Also, the apples in my bowl, I packed them all into my backpack since I don't want to return to a bunch of rotten apples. So the only food I packed, are my apples.

Sighing with content, I grab my large fan and strap it to my back before putting on my backpack. With all things done and packed, I exit my apartment and lock the door behind me.

Show time! Let's get this party started and hope I don't die!

Smiling at my self dialogue, I keep my head up and run towards the village gates. Despite the burning of my lungs, I keep running as I push myself.

That's another thing! I need to work on my stamina and endurance while I'm on this mission.

Seeing that Kakashi, Tazuna, Sakura, and Sasuke are already at the gate, I rush towards them. Noticing that Naruto's not there, I smile. I'm not late. Slowing down to a walking pace, I reach my teammates and give them a simple wave in greeting.

"Ursa, just in time," Kakashi states.

"Hn," I grunt in reply.

Turning towards Sasuke, I ignore Sakura who's trying to flirt with him and walk up to the former. Tearing Sakura away from his arm, I push her away making him sigh in relief.

"So, are you ready for this mission," I ask the Uchiha.

"Hn," he smirks.

"I'll take that as a yes, but you really need to work on your vocabulary. It's really hard to decrypt your grunts as sentences," I say, waving a nonchalant hand.

"You're annoying," he says with a slight glare.

"Did you just find that out? Man, and here I thought you were the top of our class. Such a shame," I smirk.

He punches my shoulder. "Hn, and here I thought you were pretty. Guess I was wrong," he smirks.

My eye twitches.

Did he just call me ugly?

I glare at him. "Touché, my friend," I scoff as I shake my head before smiling.

Deciding to stand next to him in -comfortable - silence, I turn my head to look at Sakura. Seeing her, I realize the look of pure jealousy on her face as she looks between Sasuke and I. Not my fault Sasuke likes me better. I mean, we're somewhat friends, we get along well, but that's all...

For now.

Suddenly, our silence is broken as Naruto comes running towards us with a beaming smile. Maybe I should befriend him too, but he's too hyperactive for my taste. I'll just see what happens.

"Let's go," Naruto exclaims as he reaches us.

"What are you so excited about," Sakura demands.

"It's 'cause I've never left the village before," he says, gripping the straps of his backpack while bouncing on his heels.

"Hey! Am I really going to be safe with that brat," Tazuna asks, putting a damper to Naruto's excitement.

"Hehe, well, I am a Jounin so don't worry," Kakashi answers with a nervous laugh.

"Hey, old man! Don't mess with ninjas! I'm incredible," Naruto shouts, pointing an angry finger at Tazuna.

And I'm fabulous!

"One day, I will take on the super elite ninja title, Hokage!!! My name's Uzumaki Naruto! Remember it," he says with the up most dedication.

"Hokage is the village's number one ninja, right? I doubt someone like you can become it," Tazuna says with abasement, taking a swig of his sake.

"Shut up!!! I am prepared to do anything to become Hokage! Once I become Hokage, you will acknowledge me," Naruto exclaims as he defends his dream.

"No, I wont, brat. Even if you did become Hokage," Tazuna continues to abash the Genin.

Just like a teapot wails, or how a twig snaps, Naruto's patience with Tazuna finally breaks.

"I'LL KILL YOU," he lunges at the drunken man, seeing nothing, but red.

"I said stop, moron," Kakashi reprimands, repeating what he did at the Hokage's office, stopping Naruto by the collar.

I smile and walk up to Naruto, patting his head. "Don't worry Naruto, I believe you," I say with a closed eye smile.

"Hn," Sasuke grunts before taking my arm and dragging me away.

He SO wants me, I smirk.

###

After an hour of so of silence, Sakura finally decides to break the silence, interrupting Sasuke's and I's thumb-war game. Getting distracted, he pins my thumb with his own. Clicking my tongue, I shove him away.

"Umm, Tazuna-san," Sakura questions.

"What," he retorts.

"You're from the Wave country, right," she asks.

"What about it," Tazuna looks at her.

The pink haired Kunoichi then turns to our sensei. "Umm, Kakashi-sensei, do they have ninja in their country too," she asks with wide eyes.

Damn, the innocent look works well for her! She's so adorable - wait! Ignore these thoughts, Ursa, I shake my head in protest.

"No, not in the Wave country. But in most other countries, the cultures and customs are different, but Hidden Villages exist and so do ninjas," Kakashi tells her. He releases another sigh before continuing. "The five great countries; the Water country, the Lightning country, the Fire country, the Wind country, and the Earth Country. In these countries are hidden villages; the Hidden Mist village, the Hidden Cloud village, the Hidden Leaf village, the Hidden Sand village, and the Hidden Rock village. To the many countries of the continent, the existence of a shinobi village means military power. This is how they hold and maintain advantages over each other. But, it's not that the villages rule over countries, they merely stand equally with the country's government. A small island country like the Wave country doesn't receive much interference from the larger countries and may not need a shinobi village. Within the many shinobi villages, Leaf, Mist, Cloud, Sand, and Rock, are large and powerful which are referred as 'The Great Five Shinobi Countries'. And these are the only countries whose leader receives the name 'Kage'. The 'Five Kage' are the Hokage, Mizukage, Tsuchikage, Raikage, and Kazekage. They reign over the thousands of ninjas in the world," Kakashi finishes.

Wow, too much information. I feel like my head's about to explode.

Looking around, I see that everyone's - Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke - thinking of the old Hokage, not believing that's he's all that strong. Well, he's not the 'God of Shinobi' for nothing. Plus, he was the teacher of the Three Legendary Sanin, and he was the student of both First and Second Hokage.

"Wow, Hokage-sama's the best," Sakura says with fake enthusiasm.

I give her a flat look.

"You guys just doubted Hokage-sama, didn't you," Kakashi says, catching them red handed.

"Not a chance! He's Hokage for a reason! There's no doubt that he's strong," I kiss up.

He chuckles at me. "Right. But don't worry, there won't be any ninja combat in a C rank mission," Kakashi reassures.

"Then we won't come in contact with any foreign ninja," Sakura questions.

"Of course not," Kakashi replies.

At that, Tazuna shifts his eyes to the ground, avoiding all our eyes. Turning my head, I see that Sasuke's looking at Tazuna with suspicion. Inching closer until I'm close to him, I confirm his thoughts.

"So, you noticed too, huh," I ask the Uchiha as I whisper to him.

"Hn," he grunts in reply.

Just as I'm about to say something else, I step into a body of water. I immediately cringe in disgust as my feet become wet, my sandals soaking wet. But then I realize what this means.

Hot day.

Strange puddle of water.

Already seen this episode.

Equals two Mist Chunins.

Damn! Must play it cool.

"Ugh! Why do I have the worst luck ever! Now my feet are wet," I childishly whine as I throw my head back, cursing the heavens.

"Hn, idiot," Sasuke smirks.

"Shut it, you emo," I retort.

He glares, "idiot."

I narrow my eyes, "emo."

He deepens his frown and gives me the Uchiha glare, "hn, you annoying, ugly, idiot!"

I sharply exhale as my eyes turn to slits, "you arrogant, good for nothing, emo!"

We keep our eyes glued to each other - still glaring - as tension builds between us. But it all disappears as our glares soon turn to smirks.

"This is why I-"

"What?!"

"One down," one of the ninjas speaks.

My eyes widening, I quickly turn my head and look behind me. I curse myself for being so stupid, I should be been paying more attention. I watch as the two ninjas wrap Kakashi in chains before testing him to bits. Blood splatters everywhere.

I stare with wide eyes, the scene in real life looks more horrifying. The smell of blood is much more pungent, so nauseating. Swallowing the bile that attempts to spill from my mouth, I bite my lip and push all my emotions down. Something that is easy for me; I'm a professional at hiding my feelings.

"Kakashi sensei," Sakura cries.

In a rush, I watch as the two nin run towards Naruto. In that my moment, my mind clicks and I turn to my violent nature. Glaring, I quickly unseathe my fan from my back.

"Wind Style: Slashing Wind Skill," I mutter as I thrust the large fan.

A surge of chakra infused wind flys towards the enemy. It's not like a regular current of wind, instead it's a tornado that increases in size as it spreads out. Sharp blades of wind cut at anything that stands in its way.

In this case, the tornado flys towards the two Chunin. The jutsu spirals in a violent motion as it grows in size, their blades grow thinner, sharper. The jutsu only goes forward twenty feet, but since the ninja stand close by, it pushes them back and cuts into their bodies.

The cloak that they wear turns to shreds, well more than the usual. Not wanting to feel left out, Sasuke jumps into the party.

Grunting, they push through the momentary shock of my attack and continue towards the blonde. As their chains are about to wrap around Naruto, Sasuke blocks their attack.

Jumping up into the air, I watch as Sasuke takes both a kunai and shuriken out of their holster. Throwing with accuracy, the shuriken embeds itself into the chain as it pins it into a tree behind them. Then he throws the kunai with the same accuracy, stopping them from removing the shuriken. Stuck in place, Sasuke lands on their weapon encased arms, with that, he kicks both ninja in their faces.

Show off!

Not wanting their arms to rip off, they decide to detach themselves from the chains. Free from being tied down, they run off to different directions. Circling around Sasuke, one runs towards the vulnerable Naruto while the other runs towards their target, Tazuna.

Already knowing that Sasuke's going to protect Sakura, I run towards Naruto, fan ready. Just as I'm close to Naruto, the Mist Nin gets ready to claw the former. Quickly pushing Naruto away, I take the hit for myself. The poisoned claws scratches me, running down my right arm.

Grunting, I bite my lip and kick him away. Thinking fast, I produce another jutsu.

"Wind Release: Air Current Wild Dance," I say through my teeth.

Thrusting the black fan forwards, my chakra creates a wild dance of sharp blades. Dancing in a violent flurry, the blades surround the Mist Nin and viciously cuts into his skin. The jutsu itself is similar to the ancient torture technique, Death by A Thousand Cuts. The blades of wind don't cut at any vital spots, no, they sharply cut as his skin, slowly making him bleed to death.

I give a dark smirk, now, this is what I like.

"Sir, get back," I hear Sakura scream.

Ignoring her, I focus on my enemy and watch as he stumbles in his posture. Grunting and groaning, he falls to his knees as the blades continue to slice at his skin. Eventually, the jutsu dies down, leaving a bloody and scathed Chunin. Strapping my fan to my back, I take a kunai out of my holster and walk up to him. Once in standing in front of him, I take my kunai and gently press it to his neck, daring him to move.

"Kakashi Sensei," I hear Sakura exclaim.

"Huh?! How," Naruto questions from the ground behind me.

"He used the Substitution Jutsu," I inform without moving.

Entering my peripheral vision, I watch as Kakashi walks up to me as he carries the unconscious Nin. Pressing the pressure point in the other Nin's neck, Kakashi takes him out of my hands and slings him over his shoulder.

"Naruto, sorry for not helping you right away. I didn't think you wouldn't be able to move and it got Ursa hurt. Great job, Sasuke. Very smooth, Ursa. You too, Sakura," Kakashi tells us.

"Thanks, but it doesn't hurt," I say, looking at my wounded arm.

But the claws had poison. The thing is, why isn't it effecting me, I question as I look at the scratch marks.
