Chapter 15: Mind Games
___________________________________________________________________________________________
THIRD POV
WITH THE MISSION coming to an end, Ursa had a mission of her own in mind. Not looking back to bid her farewells to her fellow teammates, she walks forward with a desired destination. There's a newfound skip to her step as the theory in her head rings through her mind.
It is possible for me to know the future, right? Maybe it's some kind of power? A Doujutsu of some kind? A clan technique? A kekkei genkai, Ursa thinks to herself, pondering the possibilities. Maybe it needs to be unlocked, kind of like the Sharingan. But how will it be unlocked?
She shakes her head. Too many thoughts in a short amount of time. She needs a clear mind otherwise she'll only confuse herself. Exhaling a long breath, Ursa focuses on the dirt path as she maneuvers through the streets as she looks for the library, or the closest thing they have to a library. The Konishi needs information to her many asked questions or she'll end up driving herself crazy with theories.
Though, just as she's about to turn the corner to a new path, a sudden force pushes her forward making her stumble. However, with her luck, she only ends up crashing into somebody else. Like a ball to a wall, Ursa falls backwards due to the force.
"That hurt."
Looking up, startled, Ursa's purple eyes widen when she's suddenly pulled upwards. Immediately, she recognizes the face of the person pulling at her collar.
Kankuro...? Shit! The chunin exams, how could I have forgotten, Ursa thinks as her eyes widen a bit more at the revelation.
"Ah! Sorry, I-I wasn't looking where I was going," Ursa quickly apologizes, wanting out of this situation. "My mistake."
Damn, my shorter stature! Well.. I'm a fair height, but Kankuro's obviously taller seeing as he's older, Ursa cringes as she feels his grasp tighten on her collar.
"That hurt you piece of shit," Kankuro states, lifting the girl so her feet don't touch the ground.
Ursa so badly wants to retaliate, but she could make things worse. Of course she's already thought of multiple ways to get out of his grasp, like kneeing him where the sun don't shine, punching him in the face, or the more obscene choice of stabbing him with a kunai. But she won't. That'll obviously cause drama for sure.
So, she goes with the more distasteful choice of doing nothing. Literally.
Making her body go limp, she lets Kankuro carry her dead weight which makes him stumble at the sudden change. Internally she smiles, but it's quick to disappear when he adjusts to her silent tactic.
"Ursa-chan!" Naruto yells out at the sight of his teammate in trouble.
"I'm sorry, I was messing around," comes Sakura's statement when she arrives at the scene.
"Hey, fat ass! Let go of her," Naruto insults, bullheaded as usual.
Ursa's lips twitch in amusement as she internally laughs at the insult. But not wanting the situation to get worse, she tries to be the mediator.
"Ahem! I suggest you do as he says. I mean, what fun is it to harass a rookie Genin like me. I'm not a challenge, I'm easy pickings. Wouldn't you prefer someone who put up a fight?" The black clad Kunoichi tries to negotiate.
Kankuro scoffs at the girl, at all of them. "No, it's more fun when they don't fight back. So, let's play before he arrives," he answers by tightening his hold on her collar, practically closing her airway.
Ursa grimaces at the secure grip on her neck. However, instead of panicking at the loss of air, she stays calm and breathes steadily, small amounts through her nose. Good thing she practiced holding her breath when being incredibly bored, it's paying off now.
"Bastard," Naruto yells, charging forwards.
Though, like Ursa knew, Naruto fell backwards with Kankuro's chakra strings. She'll admit, she was always impressed by the chakra string skill, the amount of sharp precision is phenomenal. But at this moment, she finds it irritating. To use it on something so mundane and immature like tripping a person, Ursa seriously questioned Kankuro's behavior. Was he sadistic like he's playing off, or is he childish?
In her situation, the Konishi could finally feel tingles spreading through her body, indicating that her limbs are falling asleep. She mentally groans at the incoming pain for when she will finally be able to move. With a roll of her eyes, she continues watching the scene unfold.
"Oh, Leaf ninja are weak," Kankuro scoffs, insulting them.
As he tightens his grip on the Leaf Kunoichi, Ursa grits her teeth as she's finally being choked out of oxygen. She shoots a glare at the Sand shinobi.
"Are you purposefully trying to kill me," she hisses with malice, finally being fed up at being in distress. "J-just because it's time for the Chunin Exams doesn't mean you can kill anyone before the actual exams. Let me go before I make you regret it!"
From the corner of her eye she can see Naruto step forward, ready to yell again, but Sakura stops him.
"Hah! As if you stand a chance! You're annoying," Kankuro retorts, tightening his hold which makes the collar of her jacket dig into her neck even further.
Ursa can practically feel her lungs screaming for air, but the digging collar at her neck is completely closing her airway. The Kunoichi glares sharply as she raises her hands to his arm, digging her nails into his skin just as tightly.
"L-let go, or I will break your hand," she chokes out, threatening him with a glare.
"Heh! I hate kids, especially you young ones that are rude. Makes me want to kill them," he sneers, finally digging his fingers around her neck.
"I'm not getting involved," Temari huffs out, looking away from the struggling Kunoichi and her brother.
Ursa can begin to see black dots invading her vision at the lack of oxygen. The pounding in her head and the aching lungs are lulling her to succumb to the darkness, but her anger is enough determination to keep her awake.
Adding pressure on his arm, Ursa pushes her strength in her fingers as she forces his radius and ulna in different directions. She can see Naruto run forward whilst she focuses on breaking his arm. However, just as she's about to snap it, a rock hits the back of his hand making him let go.
Simultaneously, both the rock and Ursa fall to the ground. The girl coughs, glaring at the dirt path as she inhales the needed oxygen. She can already feel the bruises on her neck begin to bloom.
Tch, and here I was trying to avoid causing problems! Why didn't I just break his hand to begin with - Because I'm not stupid! Breaking his arm would've initiated us in a fight, Ursa seethes as she sits on the ground, looking away from the others.
I just wanted to go to the library, she sulks.
"What are you bastards doing in our village," the newly arrived Sasuke questions as he sits up on the tree.
"Sasuke-kun," Sakura squeals, fangirling.
He always needs a great entrance doesn't he, Ursa thinks, not bothering to look away from the golden dirt as she draws patterns. Of course he does.

IN THE HOKAGE'S office, stood all the Jounin leaders and a few chunins as they all faced the older man. Hiruzen exhaled the smoke from the pipe as he faced his village's shinobi. They were all here for one reason.
"You've been assembled here for only one reason. It should be obvious by the members here," he announces seriously.
"It's already that time," Kakashi states from the front of the crowd.
"It's already been reported to the other countries. I saw them in the village. So, when is it," Genma asks from besides the Hatake.
"In one week," the Hokage declares.
"That soon?" A jounin questions, voicing everyone's thoughts.
"Well, I'll announce it properly, seven days from now. On the first day of the seventh moon the Chunin Selection Exams will commence!" Hiruzen informs to the room, smiling.
"Now, first, we'll hear from those who are watching over the new Genins." The Third initiates, letting the said Jounin walk forward. "Kakashi, Kurenai, and Asuma. Well? Are there any Genins that you would like to enter in this chunin selection exam? I don't have to tell you, but after a Genin has completed at least eight missions they may take the exams if nominated by their sensei. Of course, completing more missions than that is the norm. Now, starting with Kakashi..."
The Hatake raises his right hand, making the sign of shinobi. "The Kakashi led Team Seven, Uchiha Sasuke, Konishi Ursa, Uzumaki Naruto, and Haruno Sakura. Under the name of Hatake Kakashi, I nominate them to take the Chunin Selection Exam."
"What," Iruka exclaims, in shock.
"The Kurenai led Team Eight, Hyuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, and Aburame Shino. Under the name of Yuuhi Kurenai, the same to my left." The Kunoichi states whilst making the sign of shinobi.
"The Asuma led Team Ten, Yamanaka Ino, Nara Shikamaru, and Akimichi Choji. Under the name of Sarutobi Asuma, the same to my left." He announces, repeating the previous motions.
"Hmm. All of them? How rare," the Third muses.
Iruka steps forward, shocked by the whole ordeal. "Hold on a second!"
"What is it Iruka?" The Hokage questions.
"Hokage-sama, please let me have a word!" He tells him, walking closer to the front of the room. "I may be speaking out of place, but most of these ten were students of mine in the academy! Of course they are all very talented, but it's too early for them to take the exam! And Ursa, she was just interrogated earlier this week, her mentality isn't ready for this sort of thing!"
Everyone in the room was aware of the situation with the Konishi girl - the revealing of her forgotten memories, of her identity. Of course they knew, especially if she was the sole child of the leaders of Inyo Ketsueki - the internationally known criminal group. They knew the girl was unaware of the group, and for that they didn't discriminate her.
"They need more experience. I can't understand the Jounins reasoning," Iruka continues.
"I became a chunin when I was six years younger than Naruto," Kakashi speaks up. "And Ursa is more than capable, she's shown that."
"Naruto is different from you," Iruka yells. "Are you trying to crush these kids?! The Chunin Exams are-"
"They're always complaining about the missions. Experiencing some pain may be good for them. It would be fun," Kakashi says, turning to face the academy sensei.
"What?!"
Kakashi sighs. "Well..that was a joke Iruka. I can understand your feelings, it must upset you, but..."
"Ugh," Iruka scoffs.
"Kakashi, stop already," Kurenai states, trying to stop the building tension between the two.
"...Stay out of this. They are no longer your students. Right now, they are my soldiers," Kakashi informs, narrowing his eye at the chunin.

URSA STAYED IN her spot on the ground. Lifting her right hand, she rubbed to soothe her bruised neck, wincing at the blossoming pain. Racking through her jumbled memories, she acknowledges that Kankuro never made an impression to her, but as of this moment, she despises him.
Hissing, she ignores the show Sasuke's currently putting on as he emits his badass persona. Not wanting to witness the cock fight between her teammate and the Suna Nin, she fixes her lilac gaze to the golden dirt beneath her, letting her mind wander.
Could the ability be tied to my bloodline? A clan trait? Am I even a part of a clan? Wait! Could altering memories be THE kekkei genkai?!
But how would that describe the fact that I know about the future? Or can I only see certain people's futures, like through a Doujutsu? But even if I had one, I still need to unlock it.
Ursa scoffs to herself, "After this whole fiasco, I definitely need to hit up the library," she mutters quietly, talking to herself.
"I definitely hate show offs like you the most," Ursa hears Kankuro state.
She rolls her eyes, welcome to Konoha, then! The place where everyone shows off.
Unstrapping the puppet off his back, Kankuro smirks up at the Uchiha. Temari bristles at the sight.
"You're even going to use Karasu," she questions, worried.
"Kankuro, stop it," a new voice speaks up.
Ursa's posture changes. The hand she was using to draw patterns on the dirt, stops. Her lilac eyes widen when she realizes who it is that spoke up.
Gaara, she breathlessly gasps, not turning to see the scene.
If Neji was even more good looking in person. If Sasuke is obnoxiously attractive in person. Then, how insanely breathtaking will Gaara be? Yeah, be smart! Don't turn around, she tells herself, forcing her gaze to stick towards the grains of dirt.
"You're an embarrassment to our village," Gaara continues.
Shit, even his voice sounds hot, Ursa curses in her head. Calm yourself! Stop acting so pathetic! Damn, my closet fangirl behavior!
"Losing control in a fight, how pathetic," Gaara declares, making Ursa nod in agreement. "Why do you think we came to the Leaf Village?"
"Listen, Gaara, they started it and -"
The black clad Kunoichi scoffs loudly, gaining everyone's attention. But she says nothing else, keeping her gaze on the ground.
"Shut up, or I'll kill you," the redhead tells his older brother.
Damn, even when he's threatening others, Gaara's still very appealing. Screw these teenage hormones, Ursa grits her teeth, forcing her blush away, ignoring how Kankuro and Temari apologize.
"Sorry, to you guys," Gaara voices to the occupants of Konoha before disappearing in a swirl of sand. Then, he reappears on the ground.
Right in front of Ursa.
"It looks like we got here too early, but we didn't come here to play around," he continues before staring down at the Kunoichi in front of him.
Ursa stiffens, turning her head and meeting his gaze. As lilac meets teal, her breath stops as her heart stutters.
Yup, I'm royally screwed! How can one person look so beautiful, she states in mental awe.
But, what surprises everyone, especially his siblings, is when Gaara holds out a hand for her. Ursa stares in surprise knowing, in her jumbled memories, that this out of his character. Not wanting to deny his help, or to seem rude, and taking this chance, she grabs his hand. The girl keeps her face stoic but internally, her insides are a crazed and whirling mess similar to butterflies. With his help, she pulls herself up from the ground until she's standing, face to face only separated by a mere two feet.
Once at eye level, Gaara can easily see the blooming bruises on the fair skin of her neck. They look, to what he guesses, painful but she shows no sign of pain. He narrows his eyes.
It either looks worse than it is, or she's accustomed to enduring pain, he assesses.
"Sorry for my friend," he tells her, regarding Kankuro's actions.
Gaara watches as her stoic face softens, her lips twitching upwards. "Thank you, but there's no need for you to apologize for his actions," Ursa gives a discreet smile.
He nods in understanding before looking away.
"Let's go," Gaara orders to his siblings, beginning to walk away.
Wow! I'm pretty sure I died again. He apologized! He held my hand! And - ah! Calm down! He's just a boy. He's just here for the Chunin Exams, nothing else! Is this what Sakura feels like when she's gushing about Sasuke? Most likely! Oh Jashin, I need to focus, Ursa tells herself, chastising her behavior.
Think of your theories! Think of books! The library! Focus on yourself, and only yourself! No distractions, Ursa notes the reminders to her personal mission.
"Wait," Sakura yells out, stopping the sand siblings.
Ursa slumps as she watches them turn around towards them. There goes my focus.
"What?" Gaara questions, turning to face the Leaf Genins.
"Judging from your headbands, you guys are ninjas from the Hidden Sand Village, right," Sakura assesses, gaining an eye roll from Ursa. "You may be allies with the Leaf Village, but it is forbidden for shinobis to enter each other's villages without permission! State your purpose. Depending on it, we may not be able to let you go."
The ravenette scoffs, crossing her arms. "Sakura, you do know that this village has guards at the front gate, right? They most likely already got permission to enter. Maybe they're here because of a mission? Oh, I know, they're here for the upcoming Chunin Exams! The ones that happen every six months at a selected village, this time being in Konoha," Ursa states with tones of sarcasm, but still being informative.
The pinkette whirls around to glare at her rival. "No one asked you, Ursa! And, of course I know that! I'm not stupid," the Haruno huffs.
Ursa raises her eyebrows, amused. "Could have fooled me," she mutters to herself.
Despite their bickering, Ursa always had a soft spot for Sakura even if the pinkette grinded her gears sometimes. If she went through her scattered memories, the Konishi always loved the Haruno's character growth, it was, is, her most favorite. But sometimes, just sometimes, having a smart mouth gets the best of her and it causes the two kunoichis to get riled up.
Ignoring the conversation between the Genins, Ursa narrows her lilac gaze towards the Sand Siblings. She assesses them. She always found Temari beautiful and wildly intelligent, the blonde is a strategic mastermind who rivals with Shikamaru, then she could be calculating and sharp minded. Kankuro despite his skillful use of chakra strings and puppetry, he never stuck out to her. Never made a solid impression. Gaara, even in his bloodlusting phase, he always fascinated her - though maybe that's because she's a bit sadistic herself, then he became such a mature and calm person which made her like him even more. His character development always intrigued her, his accomplishments. Like no matter how bad he was, he was still able to redeem himself.
"Hey, what's your name," Sasuke speaks up.
This snaps Ursa out of her daze - she's pretty sure she's making a fool out of herself by just staring at them. But who cares?
"Huh, you mean me," Temari asks, looking at Sasuke with blushed cheeks.
Ursa looks at the two, amused with the whole situation. Should she feel jealous? No, there's not even an ounce of green feelings, of jealousy, of envy - nothing, just humor.
"No. You with the gourd," the Uchiha specifies.
Ursa smirks.
"Gaara of the Desert," she voices at the same time as Gaara.
Her teammates and the sand trio all glance to her with equal expressions of surprise. The aforementioned Sand Genin narrows his teal gaze at the black clad Kunoichi of the Leaf. The rest of team seven are questioning her know-how of his name. Seeing their questioning looks, her smirk widens.
"Please, it's not that hard to know his name. They're Sand Genins, and judging by the similarities they share with their facial features, I say that they're siblings. Then, there's the common knowledge that Sunagakure only has one team made up of three siblings, and they're the Kazekage's kids." Ursa informs with a stoic face, her purple eyes gleaming knowingly. "And, judging by their heights and appearances, Temari, the sole Kunoichi, is the eldest. Then, comes Kankuro, the middle sibling - which leaves him to be Gaara."
"Anyways, as fun as this data sharing is, I got places to be," Ursa tells the Genins, walking past the siblings towards her desired destination.
As she walks away, she can hear Gaara ask Sasuke his name which he answers with.
"I want to know your name, too," the redhead says towards the curly haired ravenette.
She looks over her shoulder with a smirk. "Ursa Konishi," she answers making the Sand Trio's eyes widen at the surname.
"Oh, and just because I don't look like a challenge, you don't want me as an enemy. I know everything," Ursa warns, her eyes darkening with hostility.
As she disappears around the corner, Temari looks to Kankuro.
"You just had to mess with the daughter of two well known, and dangerous, criminals." The blonde shakes her head.
"How was I supposed to know?!" Kankuro exclaims in a whisper.
"Kankuro, that girl is dangerous!"
The Sand Siblings eventually turn and take their leave. Naruto slumps dejectedly as he's rejected the acknowledgement, Konohamaru making it worse by telling him he's not cool. Sasuke turns, smirking at the newfound competition with the redhead. He's also thinking, what is Ursa doing? What games is she playing? One second, she's playing a damsel and the next she's threatening them?
However, each of them don't notice the company of the Otogakure team spying on the tree above them.
"So, what do you think?"
"Well, nothing serious, but those two black haired Leaf genin and the Sand one with the gourd. Let's keep our eyes on them."

URSA REACHED THE library like she always wanted. Scrolls of information lined the shelves along with various thick hard covered books. Sitting at a lone desk, away from the watchful eyes of the older librarian, but there are several opened books around her in piles.
"The Konishi Clan originates from the Hidden Village of the Rain; Amegakure. In the Second Shinobi World War, the Konishi Clan went up against Hanzo the Salamander as he stopped his pursues to peace, only rising in power. In fear that they will overthrow him with their Kekkei Genkai - Henzuru, the ability to alter and manipulate the mental form of others with their eye contact (Doujutsu) - Hanzo laid waste to the Konishi Clan, killing them with his toxic and venomous fumes.
It was recorded that the survivors of the massacre escaped to neighboring villages, most becoming refugees in Kirigakure, in that time being known as the Blood Mist Village. Since they were those of a bloodline lineage, they were respected as second caste civilians despite not originating within the country. Though, in times of war, the remnants of the Konishi Clan allied in the battles of Kirigakure. Unfortunately, in time it became common in the Mist Village to suspect those with bloodline traits especially after the various battles, the remaining Konishis became victims to village's onslaughts like the Yuki Clan and the Kaguya Clan.
The Konishi Dojutsu - Henzuru. When awakened the user's pupil changes to a molten gold, their irises turn to an electric purple, as the iris gains a molten gold border around it. When using Henzuru on others, they enter a state of hypnosis as the user alters and manipulates their memories. In more advanced cases, the Henzuru users can sift through other's memory lines - their pasts, their present, their futures: gaining their life information. In severe cases, one can erase or alter another's memories, locking their whole existence away - the only known user in this case being Chisaki Konishi, the founder of Inyo Ketsueki during the Second Shinobi World War.
Though, in unawakened cases, it is common to experience uncontrolled memories of knowledge."
Ursa stared at the paragraphs of information. Her theories finally coming to a close as they're answered. Her plethora of late night questions coming to a rest, but her mind is still whirling.
Her clan was massacred, not once, but twice!
Her possible grandfather founded the now internationally known criminal organization. And, it's supposedly passed down like an heirloom by the looks of it, seeing as her mother is now the leader.
She has a Doujutsu! And it alters memories!
Herself, and her parents, as it seems are the remaining survivors of her dead clan.
"What is my life," Ursa breathes, completely shocked. "What. The. Fuck."
