Chapter 14: Revelation

THIRD POV
THE NEXT DAY came sauntering around the corner like a skipping go-lucky flower girl. Ursa despised it. Ever since the interrogation and being deemed 'innocent' her mood turned completely sour. Much more so, when she had to stay in that room on her free day, answering questions and going over the recollected memory. If she was negative before, now she's subzero.
Her jaw was constantly setting and clenching as she grinded her teeth together. Her hands clenched and unclenched into fists. Ursa wanted to punch something over and over again.
To make it even worse, she was still confused. What memories were real? Which were altered? Was her past life all fake? If so, then why does she know everything about this world? The constant whirlwind of questions kept her awake, which made her even more sour.
So, as she waited by the door, Ursa listened to Naruto as he exited his apartment. What surprised her was that he walked towards her door, so close that it seemed that he was going to knock, but he never did. He hesitated and left. Sighing, Ursa hits her head on her apartment door, not wanting to go outside. She wants to bury herself in a deep dark hole and live there for the entirety of her life. Sighing once more, Ursa willed herself to leave her comfort zone.
Walking down the apartment stairs, she sneers at the bright sun and glares down at the dirt ground. Usually, she would eat an apple to make her mornings more tolerable, but being so mad she couldn't even think about stomaching her favored snack. Clenching her hands repeatedly, she stomped towards her team's meeting place, kicking a few stray pebbles.
She pictured them as the people she currently loathe.
It didn't take long before she reached their rendezvous point. She was met with the sight of Naruto glaring at Sasuke, the latter ignoring him. Sakura stood to the side of them, throwing them glances every now and then. The sight of them being so nonchalant irked her already pissed mood.
As if sensing her plummeting negativity, the trio turned to her. Naruto's eyes sparkled when he saw his teammate standing before them, glad that she wasn't guilty after all. Sakura sighs dejectedly, her hopes of being the sole Kunoichi on their team crash and burning - though, not that she'll ever admit, she is relieved that Ursa is free of charge. Sasuke reacted with nothing, however, he immediately noticed his friends sour disposition - her mood darker than the clothes she's wearing.
"Hey, Ursa-chan," Naruto greeted with his dazzling smile.
The said girl glanced at him and immediately looked away, glaring at the floor. With this, Naruto's smile faltered as he threw a confused look towards the other two. Sakura and Sasuke said nothing, the former shrugging her shoulders. Crossing her arms, Ursa stood like a pole, tense and straight, as she directed her harsh gaze to the river beneath them.
"So, Ursa, what happened," Sakura questioned, finding the courage to speak to the glaring girl.
Silence.
"What did they do to you?"
Silence.
"Did they question you? What did they ask?"
Silence.
"Are you not allowed to talk about it? Is that why you're not talking to us," the Haruno continued to pester.
Silence.
"Are you mad at us?"
Silence.
"Are you just mad in general?"
Silence.
"Ugh! Are you ever going to talk to us?! Ursa, at some point you're going to have to trust us and open up about your life! You can't push us away forever," Sakura yells, her patience completely gone by her lack of answers.
Ursa turns to look at her, stares into the Haruno's emerald eyes for a very pregnant pause, and looks away.
Silence.
"Ugh! I give up," Sakura exclaims, throwing her hands up.
Ursa knew Sakura and the two boys behind her wanted answers, but if she wanted, she could keep her mouth shut for days. Heck, she was raised to do just that. The kunoichi's persistent badgering doesn't bother her, the Konishi girl just made into white noise.
Recalling her now jumbled mess of memories, Ursa knows that Kakashi will arrive late. Recognition paints her abstract mind and reveals that today is the day of the D-Rank missions. The day where they stumble upon a certain sand sibling team. Rolling her lilac eyes, she huffs through her nostrils at the incoming drama that's to come. Both from the missions and the interaction with the siblings.
Eventually, time passed by like the stream below them, slowly but steady. As Ursa kept her gaze to the water and ignored the team's bickering, she clenched her jaw in order to stop the flow of angry tears that threatened to spill. Her life was simple, she knew what was what, but then the memories came and made her life a mess. Who can she talk to about this? No one because it doesn't make sense, not even to her. Events of a life she never knew about are being stitched to her soul making her life so much more complicated. Lies that she uttered so carelessly are becoming the truth.
Her simple life became a mess, and she's confused and angry.
Why was this happening to her? To me? Why was this happening to me, Ursa thought to herself, her vision blurring with the gloss of tears.

BY THE TIME Kakashi arrived, three hours passed by seamlessly. Naruto and Sakura were complaining about his tardiness like usual, and both Sasuke and Ursa stayed in their original spots, silent as ever. With her record of patience, the Konishi stayed completely still, not twitching, slumping, or anything - it was like she was stuck in a silent trance.
However, when Kakashi poofed on the bridge, she finally moved to look over her shoulder. Upon seeing her sensei, she turned around and crossed her arms, the same dark look on her face when she greeted her teammates.
"Hey, guys! Sorry, I'm late, I got lost on the path of life," the Hatake greeted with a closed eye smile.
"Stop lying with a straight face," both Sakura and Naruto yelled in synch.
"Give it rest," Sakura added.
"You're a failure as a ninja," Naruto huffed, pointing an angry finger.
Kakashi raised his hands in surrender, laughing their accusations off. Though, as he glanced at his team, he finally recognized the darkened stature of his other Kunoichi. The pleasant and carless air around her seemed to be replaced with anger and avoidance. He sighed, knowing that the team dynamic will be effected by her mood and recent events. She's not trusting anyone, it makes sense since her security was just attacked by the interrogation.
"Ursa, welcome back. I find it that everything went well," he questions, making the others glance towards the said Kunoichi.
Silence.
The black clad girl says nothing, she just looks through him like she did with Sakura, and looks away.
"Ursa! You can't disrespect Kakashi sensei like that-"
"Sakura, it's fine. Ursa has the right to comprehend her situation without anyone's opinions. Her life was just attacked with endless questions, and who knows what else. Give her time," Kakashi explains, giving a supporting nod to the curly haired girl.
Ursa says nothing, but her eyes slightly soften towards her sensei, appreciating his answer.
"Hey! Hey! Kakashi sensei! Lately all of our Team Seven missions have been too easy! I want more of a, you know, hot one! Where I can shine! That follows my ninja path! And my heart like..."
Kakashi interrupts the blond Uzumaki.
"Yeah, yeah." The sensei sighs. "I pretty much know what you're gonna say." He continues as he deadpans.
Naruto says nothing as he's too busy daydreaming of besting the Uchiha. Ursa can practically see the images in his head, remembering them so vividly. It makes her stomach twist, and she clenches her jaw to stop the sensation of confusion.
"Hey! Naruto! What are you doing? Let's go," Sakura exclaims as everyone else starts to walk away, towards their missions.
"Oh yeah!"
"You really are annoying," the Haruno scolds.
First, they're led to a small stream of a river to clean up. Whilst Kakashi leans against a tree in the shadowy foliage, Sakura, Sasuke, Naruto, and Ursa all stand in the water with large bags and small spears, stabbing at pieces of trash. The black clad Kunoichi is more upstream, away from the other three, as she takes her frustration out on stabbing most of the trash.
Sakura glances worriedly towards her fellow Kunoichi, wondering what has the girl so upset, so pent up and angry. She knows she was never close to the latter, since they always butted heads, but this is different. This is real, and Sakura can't resist the urge to help her teammate. She wants the Ursa who she usually clashes with back, not the one who's internally struggling with something. Their rebuttals towards each other is what makes them thrive, and right now, they're at a standstill, one spiralling and the other stuck. Sakura's at a loss.
Suddenly, both girls are startled when they hear Naruto yell. Ursa snaps her head towards the sound and sees the blond flailing in the water as the current carries him away. In her old life, Ursa was a great swimmer, but to swim against a current is something no one can't do, unless they're part fish.
So, dropping her things, Ursa runs - as best as she can in water - past Sakura and Sasuke, towards the the Uzumaki. She can see the distance between him and the waterfall closing, inching closer together. Gritting her teeth, she pushes her rising exhaustion as she continues to wade through the water, her balance focusing on not slipping and ending up as the said boy.
Using one hand to quickly fumble through her weapon's pouch, she pulls out a coil of string and a kunai. Bringing them forward, she simultaneously continues to run and tie the string to the weapon. Her fingers quickly twist and fumble, but once she's done, Ursa swiftly throws the tied kunai towards the nearest tree and watches as it wraps around the trunk before stabbing itself down.
With that done, Ursa doesn't hesitate to leap after the Uzumaki just as he falls over the trench. She's never liked heights to begin with, so when she free falls after her teammate, her stomach plummets with fear at the sight below her. Ignoring her queasy feeling, she focuses and stretches forward, successfully catching Naruto's ankle. Though, not a second later, her other hand is yanked up as they're brought to a stop, the string being the only thing keeping them suspended.
She closes her eyes, not wanting to look down at the plummeting height.
"Naruto," she speaks up, catching the boys attention. "For this small second, I am hating you."
"Thanks, Ursa-chan," Naruto states, and she can practically hear his sheepish smile.
Eventually, they were pulled up and Ursa rubbed at her aching hand, creases of the string branding her fair skin. With silence looming over her, she continued with her given task. Back in pace, the team finished cleaning the stream within the hour.
Next, they went to an animal shelter to walk the dogs. Ursa, who already disliked the animals, cringed upon seeing them. She never really liked them, finding their insistent barking annoying, and their cuddly, ecstatic, personality a bit too much. Since she's more on the broody side, the Konishi girl preferred the equally broody animal - cats.
She minutely shook her head as she watched Naruto pick the large bulldog. Sasuke and Sakura both chose small dogs, ankle biters to be specific. Looking at the cages of whining dogs, Ursa shuddered and finally chose a corgi.
Much dislike. Many nopes. Pls no. Such bye. Wow. Very distressed, Ursa thought to herself as the golden haired corgi sniffed her legs.
So ninja.

IT WAS FINALLY the end of their D-Rank missions. The conclusion came when Naruto mistakenly pulled out all of a woman's herbs instead of the needed weeds. This incident was a following of his previous misfortune of his dog accidently walking, and dragging him, into a minefield which led him to become covered in soot.
Ursa found the gardening mission relaxing, pulling the weeds being a much needed reliever for her anger. As she angrily pulled at the stems, she finally thought about the interrogation.
Her memories were altered.
Her supposed real mother was the one who altered them, choosing power over family.
Her supposed father was forced to forget about her, having his memories altered as well.
She's the heir of a international criminal organization.
Her full name is Ursa Konishi, and her supposed family abandoned her, leaving her to survive all alone.
She grew up in the streets of Tanigakure, starving and stealing.
But she also has memories of another life, in another world - where she died.
Were those the fake memories?
Or was her life here the fake one?
Then, why would she remember everything of both lives?
Are her memories of the other life in the other world fake, and is she somehow a seer, a clairvoyant?
So much was revealed that day, but Ursa only has more questions. So much confusion. So many theories. Yet there's no evidence to back her up. Well, there is, but no real and tangible proof.
That's it! Ursa thinks, her eyes growing wide as she continues walking behind her team. It would make sense that my other life was fake, just mere memories. My supposed mother altered my memories as a child, and as far as I can remember, I had a decent childhood in that life. Not perfect, but decent. I got the parents, the siblings, the few friends. I got everything there that I didn't get here. But just as I 'died' I turn up here at the very beginning of the anime, of the plotline, of the series. Now, that can't be coincidence! My knowledge of the Narutoworld could just be me being a seer, a clairvoyant, a prophet - not that I'm super religious or anything, but the point is, my knowledge of the show could just be me seeing the future! Maybe I always naturally had that ability, a kekkei genkai by chance? A technique? An unknown doujutsu? Just maybe...
Maybe.
I need more research!
"Oh!" Ursa exclaims, startling her teammates, making them jump. "Does Konoha have a library? Where can I research properly? Is there any record or database of all known doujutsu, or bloodline techniques?! Oh my, Kami! I need answers! I have so many questions! I need books - where are the books, the scrolls, the files! I'm having a breakthrough!"
The rest of Team Seven openly gapes at her. Her day long silence is finally broken and she's rambling about libraries? Sakura's eye twitches - where was this Ursa when she asked her questions.
Kakashi shakes his head, a small smile beneath his mask. He was right on giving her time, seeing as she's back to her spiel of random rambles. Sure, he noticed that the interrogation shook her to the core, but with her silence, he knew that was her way of thinking. Somehow, that led to her making the revelation to whatever it was that was bothering her.
Sasuke watches her, and somehow he knows the silence that they held for weeks affected their friendship. Since the Land of Waves mission where she protected him against Haku, and his anger to almost losing her, they created a large metaphorical wall between them. She holds herself together, tightly wound, and secure, not letting anyone near her. She closed herself off and he feels that it's somewhat his fault. He got angry for almost losing her, but in the end she slipped through his grasp, completely losing her.
With hesitation, he admits that he misses her being his friend.
"Is our mission over? Can we go now!? I need to do something important," Ursa questions Kakashi.
No, Sasuke shakes his head. I definitely miss her.
But Ursa was completely unaware of his stare as she had other things in mind, bigger priorities.
By the time she did realize, it would be too late.

Welp, that's Chapter 14 for ya! And, ooh, things are getting intense - well, I think so.
Does Ursa have a right to be angry? Who is she angry at?
Oop, she's avoiding people, is that a smart choice? She obviously has trust issues, but should she isolate herself?
Also, oop, she doesn't like dogs. I like some dogs, like corgis, and others. Cats, on the other hand, I absolutely love and adore them <3
And interesting, her questions and theories! What do you think of that?! Can her 'real' world memories be fake? Is she a seer, a future seeing person?!
For the criminal organization heir thing, I got plans for that in the far future(shippuden).
Are Sasuke and Ursa ever going to go back to being friends? Is her research going to get in the way? Are the Chunin Exams - Orochimaru, the curse mark? Or will it be too late???
