A Toast to Cliches in the Dark Past

Prologue

(A.N: yeah, actually the title is a line from a Beyoncé and Jay Z song and I came up with the idea for this story aggeesssss ago. But again stupid name but the story is.....acceptable. I really like reading authors note bits because I feel as though the writer is speaking directly to me. So I'm gonna try and do authors notes for most of the stories in this book so you guys can get to know me a little. Please feel free to comment and tell me your thoughts (^O^).

"Vampires are not like the bloodthirsty monsters heard of in legends and fairy tales." This was how professor Aram had began his lecture. He was telling the students about their history. They would soon take their aptitude test to see what rank they have among the 7 squads that were here in the Organization. The atmosphere was heavy with anxiety and nerves.

"They look like us. They live like us. They even govern themselves like us. But even so they are different from us. They live incredibly long lives, have superhuman strength, advanced healing abilities and can go into sunlight. They posses supernatural powers which they gain by feeding on the blood of humans. Each vampires power is different, some may be able to control minds, posses people, manipulate shadows or some even have magic. You must be born a vampire, you cannot become one.

"The most powerful vampire Clan since the beginning of time has been the Emrys family and they ruled over all vampires. They Emrys family decided to stop taking the blood of humans against their will. And one day the head of the Emrys family, Uriah Emrys, saved a humans life and that human named Joshua Castiel pledged himself to be the Uriah's servant. During this time period the Emrys family had a lot of enemies so Uriah trained Joshua to be the first vampire slayer. Because vampires would not expect a human to be a threat so in Joshua's presence they'd let their guard down. Joshua single handedly took down the leaders of the major vampire clans which we're rebelling against the Emrys family. During the battle which ended the rebellion Uriah found himself weakened. Joshua then offered Uriah his blood which allowed Uriah to regain his strength and end the rebellion. Uriah learnt something that day. He realised after Joshua had given his blood to him, his powers had grown immensely. So if a human gives their blood willingly to vampire, that vampires powers will grow.

"After this battle the existence of vampires had become well known among the humans.

"Joshua decided to teach his descendants what Uriah had taught him and together with the help of Uriah they formed the Organization. The organization is divided into 7 divisions. Whose duty it is to protect humans and vampires from each other. As there are murders and psychopath among humans, there are these things among vampires too. Just as there is good and evil in every heart. You cannot have one without the other.

"As you are part of the Organization it will be your duty to up hold the saying which is inscribed on our coat of arms. We are the sword and shield. We are the the shield of truth to protect the good and the sword of justice that fights against evil." Professor Aram ended his lecture on that note and dismissed the rest of the class.

The students were anxious. For today was the day that they would get their ranking and be assigned to their designated squads. The way the ranking system is designed is that you'll have your squad number first and then your ranking in terms of your power. If you were from squad two and your ranking among the squad is that you are third best, your rank would be 2:3.

All of the students made their way to their next class.

But Raven just sat there, her elbows propped up on the table and her hands cupping her cheeks. She had fallen asleep in the first half the professors lecture and had a dream. She was running after a young boy and she herself was young in the dream. She was in a mansion that looked familiar but she couldn't figure out why. She still kept running after the boy but she kept tripping. There were whispers telling that she was too weak. A little girl who couldn't do Anything at all. The whipers we're haunting and chilled her to the bone but they lit a fire in her heart. She remembered that it was those very words that had caused her to come here.

The room had emptied out now so she wouldn't have to fight her way through the crowd. She stood up to follow Phoenix out of the room but the professor stopped her.

"I need to have a word with you," he said.

Phoenix gave Raven a look that said "somebody's in trouble,"

Phoenix left the room and Raven walked towards get professors desk.

He gestured towards his chair motioning her to sit down. As she sat down he propped himself up on his desk.

"Phoenix I know you're there," Aram said. "and I know you want to hear what I've got to say. I'm pretty sure Raven will fill you in so do yourself a favour and go to your next class,"

Raven heard an exasperated sigh as Phoenix left.

Before the professor had the chance to say anything Raven head up her hand and said, "Don't try and talk me out this. I've chosen this by myself and-"

"But are you doing this for your self?"

Raven stood quietly and looked away from the professor.

"Not entirely," she finally said.

"For him then," said Aram. "For-"

She held up a hand to stop him and shot him a warning glare.

"You of all people know what would happen if you mention 'him' here." She said. An edge of irritation could be heard from her voice.

"But in the end this is for me. That person won't gain anything from this after all."

"You say that to hide your disappointment," said the professor with an amused smile. "You managed to get top marks in all of the of the exams and will soon be Valedictorian for this years graduates. you said you didn't care about that stuff but actually this is your way of trying to get his attention, isn't it?"

Raven ran her fingers through pushing her chocolate brown fringe off her face, leaving a clear view of her storm grey/blue irises. She sighed. "I'm guessing that's childish of me?"

"To some maybe but not to him. To him it would look like you took his words as a challenge. And that would no doubt amuse him," he said. "But he would be proud of you." The professor continued with a knowing smile.

Raven returned the smile and made her way out of the lecture hall.

Aram smiled at the memory of the young girl who couldn't even figure out which end to hold a stake. He wondered how the crybaby with no coordination could become the girl in front of him. He watched her close the door behind her.

He tensed as he felt the cold knife against his neck.

The stranger had appeared behind him and Aram hadn't been able to sense him because he was masking his presence. Only noble class vampires could do that. Under normal circumstances the professor wouldn't have been fazed by this but this time he knew his attacker.

The stranger whispered in his ear, "What's that saying again? Speak of the devil and the devil shall appear." The stranger chuckled. "Well it seems to be true."

He frowned at the Professor. "I could've killed you by now, why haven't you done anything yet?" He asked Aram.

"Look down," said the professor.

The stranger obliged and saw that in Aram's hand there was a blade that had impaled his stomach. He let go of the Prifessor and Aram went and sat at his desk. Calmly looking at the stranger before him with disdainful expression.

"Lucifer it seems you've gotten sloppy," said Aram.

Lucifer looked up at him removing his hood. Exposing his ebony hair and golden eyes. He then looked down at the blade that had impaled him and proceeded to pull it out. The blade had no traces of his blood on it. it remained clean and pure as had been before.

"You could've killed me with this you know Aram," said Lucifer

"That was my intention," the professor replied.

"You have terrible intentions old man," said Lucifer with A smile. His eyes then came to rest on the door, the place where Raven had been a moment before. Aram followed his gaze.

"Have you ever thought about actually going to see here and talk to her?" Aram asked.

"On multiple occasions but I have never done it," Lucifer said in return.

Aram scoffed. "The king of vampires is actually afraid of confronting a human girl."

"Well maybe if it as few years ago then I would go but now she knows how to murder me in the most painful way if I mess up. That's why it sucks when the person you like is a vampire hunter and you're a vampire." Lucifer.

"Ah young love," Aram said.

Lucifer turned to glare at him and then his eyes widened.

"Raven?" Asked the Professor rising from his seat.

Lucifer nodded then morphed into shadows and disappeared.

Raven sat on the roof of the academy. She sighed as she thought of how she hadn't had that dream in a while.

The boy with golden eyes. She hugged her knees into her chest.

"Lucifer, where are you?" She whispered to herself. I wonder what he looks like now? She thought.

She heard a creak and her head snapped towards the direction of the sound. And there stood a lower class vampire. Its glowing red eyes lusted for her blood. It's breathing was heavy.

Raven scrambled to her feet as the vampire charged at her. She closed her eyes and braced her self for impact but none came. She heard a bang and opened her eyes to see a black haired figure standing over the vampire. A gun in His right hand.

He turned towards her. His eyes scanned her and he sighed internally seeing that she wasn't hurt.

They stood there in silence. Raven found herself locked in his eyes. The eyes of predator, someone made to kill. He began to walk towards her. His steps slow and deliberate. He smiled. His eyes full of light and happiness.

"Will you wait for me?" He asked.

"Always," Raven said as she smiled.

And with that he disappeared.

Leaving her behind again. But he didn't know that this time she wouldn't sit quietly and wait for him to come to her. This time she would take fate into her own hands and go to him. And besides the only destiny you have is the one you make, be it a cliche one.

(A.N: I apologise for the bad writing. I wrote this when I was......well a lot younger than I am now. But anywho I might use these junk drawer entries for future story ideas based on popularity. Kuro out.)
