Chapter 45

Unedited

Sewuese irrupts into her office space which she shared with three others. She was angry at herself for giving Jamal audience but what the heck? How much damage can hearing him out cause? He shut the door and a smiled formed on his face when he noticed the room was empty.

He needed the room to be empty!

"Is this private enough?" She asked and he gave a nod then he stretched the flower bouquet at her. He barely gave her flowers when they were dating but he knew she was a sucker for one because of the way she jumped and embrace him in appreciation whenever he does!

Sewuese cared about those little things, even when he didn't do them, she endured! He has always been a prick but she looked past that! Jamal knew it will be difficult to find a woman like her.

"And what am I supposed to use the stupid flower for? Plant them?"

"There's no point being sarcastic. It's just a gesture"

"For what exactly? As per what? That I'm your girlfriend or what? Or am I supposed to use the flower to wipe away your sin? Or the fragrance from it is supposed to rise up to my nostrils and soften my heart. I'm not God so if you need to do sacrifices and kill lambs, please meet the right authority!"

Jamal rolled his eyes, "It was just one mistake" "One Mistake? On a valentine's day Mama, you call that a mistake" "If you had stayed with me" "Jamal screw you to hell!" She scream poking his chest, "Screw you! You you've been screwing with my friend Ada, was that a mistake too?"

"Yes"

Sewuese shut her eyes angrily then she pressed her fingers to her face, in order to suppress her anger, "God. I want to say a lot now but..... It won't be nice so Uncle, if you don't want me to use the anger of what I'm passing through right now on you, you'll get straight to the fucking point of why we're here or get the fucking hell out of this place" She threatened pointing at the door.

"Come on Baby.... This isn't who you are, come on, it's still me oh. Your Jamal.... You guy, your sweetheart, your baby oh" He held by the hands and she tightened her fist. She wish she could throw a punch at him.

The only she felt that moment was anger, unhealthy anger towards him. Maybe she wasn't so over the betrayal after all!

She opened her eyes staring sternly at his face, "Jamal, let go of my hands" "Come on, I'm sorry and I want you back. Baby I miss you, I miss you so much it hurts, even after that bullshit I said to you that day, It didn't stop me from feeling a piece of shit. I only did that because I was pained"

"Pa... pained by?"

"Pained by the idea of someone else stealing your heart when I know deep down you still love me" He lowered his face to hers but she arced her brow in horror, "I know you want to kiss me as badly as I want to"

"Jamal if you dare"

He kissed her on the lips and she threw a fine slap on his face instantly. He gasped staring at her in shock.

"How dare you?" She asked grabbing the bouquet from him, "How dare you come in here," She paused poking the flower on his chest, "You even had the audacity to ask for my attention and I being the good hearted soul, gave it to you and you had the audacity to kiss me!" She screamed in whisper cause she didnt want to stir up tension in the office. Then she slapped the flowers on his chest.

"Don't you ever! In your miserable life Jamal, in your miserable life, kiss me again. I swear the next time you try that rubbish, my ten fingers won't be the only thing landing on your pretty face"

"Sewuese I love you and there's no other woman I want to marry"

"Na today e clear for your eyes? I spent years loving you, gave you everything on a platter, I gave you respect, I put up with the shit you keep dishing, I gave you my devotion, my time, my body, I went against my parents, there's nothing you didn't ask for that I didn't give you, nothing you didn't ask for! Well newsflash Jamal, I don't love you and I never want to be that pathetic woman again and trust me, I pity the woman who end up getting married to a train wreck like you cause you've not even worked on yourself much less thinking of getting married." She shoved the flowers against his chest.

"Take your stupid flower and take your stupid self out of this building" She snapped and he stood quietly in shock. He was scared, there was something in Suwuese's eyes he has never seen before; an anger that will never got away, an anger he brought thanks to his infidelity.

He wondered if this was the same Sewuese who will always grovel to apologize to him, the same Sewuese who endured his excesses! Maybe it was time for him to take a breather on her matter.

He walked away with his flowers then she sat on a chair busting into tears.

Benue

In a clothing market line, conversation and whispers bustled like bees buzzing. Interested buyers at their personal choice.of cloth vendors looking through clothing materials while higgling prices. Kilahi sat in a woman's shop conversing in pidgin her. She was Idoma and she couldn't speak the language.

Hausa would have been an alternative!

She sat on a long bench puzzled about what color of materials to buy so she quickly took pictures and in order to send it to Sewuese and Hilary.

They'll make her choice easier!

"Na everyday the materials dey cost oh" The woman complained while she scrolled to her WhatsApp, "Toor. How much I buy lining last year? Now all the prices don escalate like wetin I no know" Kilahi hissed waiting for her messages to load.

She clicked on the one from Hilary:

Hey Twinnie. I've got a dilemma, I would have preferred dropping a voicenote but...I know you'll be in public and you won't be able to listen. You don't have earpiece, you don't have airpods, what do you have?😅

That one was on a lighter mood jhoor! I feel like... I'm so confused!

You know I went to see to see Tatiana shey? She gave me my job back, a promotion, a new office and a raise. I don't know what to do. Confusion is confusing my head! What's your opinion?

Kilahi sent in a laughing emoji.

😂🤣🤣

This is funny!

Kilahi quickly sends a voice note.

🎙 Wonderful! She called you and you call this a dilemma. Sweetheart this isn't a dilemma. Dilemma is been stuck in a traffic half way to a meeting you're already late for. This one isn't, I don't know what you're dilemma - ing! Or dilemmating. Aunty this one is isn't a dilemma

She paused then she sends in anothe voicenote.

🎙Because of what? The raise or promotion? Or new office? Sweetheart your future office space is going to be the latest, it's going to have the latest designs and decor. Did you hear that? This Is funny, it reminds of when the devil took Jesus up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and its glory. That's what she's doing. That's what that woman is doing, she's showing you a glory to blind your eyes from a greater glory that God.has prepared for you. All she wants is for you to fall down and worship her. That's how I'm seeing it. God has gone ahead of you even thought it doesn't look like it. Are you going to bow to the devil because he presented what seems like glory?

She paused looking at the woman who had her eyes on her. She has been listening to the voice note and none spoke about the materials she took pictures of! She wondered if Kilahi was going to make purchases or she only came for window shopping.

She instantly resumed typing.

I've talked too much. This woman is using side eyes to look at me. Before she'll think I want to use the chair in her shop to rest. You're not in a dilemma, dilemma is what I'm going through in this market right now. She sends a picture.

Red or ..teal or is It turquoise. It should be teal.... Wo, make your choice. I have less than how many hours to sew this cloth like this! It will be a miracle if I actually nail this!

"Aunty which one you come want there?" The woman asked and she stretched her phone at her, "Na wetin I dey dey sort for. I've asked a friend to..." Before Kilahi could complete her sentence, the woman was already talking to a passerby.."Fine customer come now! I get wetin you dey find oh!" She screamed. The customer walked backwards then she fixed her attention on the clothing material in the woman's shop.

Sewuese's message popped in and Kilahi smiled.

Good afternoon Sis

You're not a bastard! I was thinking of chatting you up. How are you? I hope you're not still crying over the message

Have you spoken to Pastor Gbadamosi?

Yes

What he say?

Kilahi bit her nails, she won't want to ruin the surprise! Sam is on his way!

Well.... He said we should trust God that everything will be fine

Everything will be fine? My heart is shattered. What I'll do when I end up seeing Sam. he won't believe it! Why did he bother telling me to apply for a visa when he had no interest

Toor. I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding

Misunderstanding? God help me, God help me, let me just catch him! He'll explain himself.

You're para-ing oh. Calm down

Jamal came to the office

What does he want?

He wants me back

What's all this temptation, left, right and center? Don't tell me you're reconsidering

No!

He's your first love, I know you liked him a lot

Bullshit! Am I mad? He even kissed me

Can you imagine? Tell me you slapped him

Yes I did.

Perfect! What does he take you for? Some men sha! I hope you've eaten

I was about to go for lunch when he came. I don't even have appetite.

Please eat oh!

Enough talk about me jare. How was the marathon?

It was interesting. We thank God.
I'm not coming back today again

When is your flight scheduled to take off? You should be on your way to Abuja so you can get to the airport on time.

I'm not coming back today again

Why? Was the flight cancelled?

I was invited for a party and Mrs Aisha told me to stay back since it was a personal invite so, my sister, I'm stuck.

What about the flight? Sha you're not the one paying, neither are you the one that booked

Mrs Aisha will sort it out. Meanwhile I need you to pick some materials for me. I'm in the market.

She sent in the pictures to her

Red.

Red? I have many red already. It's not as if I'm auditioning for the role of an herbalist.

🤣😂
You always look pretty in red. Besides, if you choose teal, which simple style will be able to do that will look exceptional? Red can be simple and lovely!

😩😩😩 I yaff heard. Red it is.
They will still use me and do campaign for red and black! My wardrobe looks like a shrine. Black gown, red gown.

😂🤣🤣

Lagos

Aisha went through some pictures on Mrs Mba's post on Instagram. Then she smiled giving her a call. "Good day Miriam" "Good day Aisha, how are you?" "I am fine. I trust your day has been fine"

"Wonderful. I'm a bit stressed but nothing a massage can't fix but on the other hand it was worth it"

"Congratulations on the success! There were rumors the Amanpan's boys were going to destroy the parade because of their believe in masculinity" "There were police stationed at different corners. They wouldn't have dared!"

Aisha laughed, "I trust you" "I did miss you" "I apologize for not coming. I made plans to visit Baba, he had a fixed appointment so i had no choice but to send Kilahi. I hope she represented well"

"More than I thought. I delegated her to handle a session of the crowd and she did it so well! Looks like she's even a celebrity of her own cause I heard some young girls came because she announced it on Instagram"

"Wow. I'm happy to hear that. Kilahi is efficient and passionate

"She is a born leader. I don't know, the moment I heard her speaking to the reporter. I just fell instantly in love with her, the way she speaks, her passion, she speaks and you know she means what she's saying. Its rare to see people in our line that actually put others first before themselves. I like her"

"Same way I felt the first time I saw her. You know the gap Freeda left and how badly I wanted someone to fill the gap. She did it beyond my imagination. Even Aunty Abebi likes her"

"That reminds me, I saw Freeda"

"What does she want?"

"I haven't had the time yet to pay attention. The only thing on my mind is that Kilahi girl, i rarely welcome adults like her without first observing them but this one is just as you described her and trust me, she has a place in my heart already. Abuja will really like her, think of the wonderful things she'll do there"

Aisha gasped, "Are you trying to say something?" "Can I steal her?" "Um..." She trailed off, she didn't even know what to say. She wasn't ready to lose Kilahi too. "Kilahi is an asset to the foundation" "I feel there's so much more for her. I plan on introducing her to the Minister of Education, she'll be coming for the fund raiser tonight. I can picture an appointment already for her"

"How can I compete with that"

"Haba, it's not like that. It's not like that at all, that's why I'm asking you as a sister from different mothers. I respect you too much to do this behind your back. Let me bring her to Abuja"

Aisha exhales, "I've always known Kilahi was born for greatness. Frankly, i see myself in her. I won't stand as an hinderance to this wonderful news. It will hurt to lose her but at the same time, I'll call her and wish her all the luck a mother can wish upon a child"

"Nagode. How's Baba?"

Hilary met up with Manny at the usual, she couldn't stop complaining about the albino guy. Manny laughed, "Are you sure I shouldn't be scared of this guy, you keep meeting him every time you get on that BRT. Are you sure it's not fate speaking?"

Hilary frowned, "What kind of fate?" She asked reaching into her bag for a USB cord then she watched Manny hum the 'hear comes the bride' sound. She pulled out the USB cord, "I'll strangle you with this USB cord"

Manny laughed, "And she's really reaching out for a USB cord. Is that how Anambra girls strangle their boo?" He asked and she gasped placing her hands on her chest. "Oh my... I didn't mean it that way" He replied lifting his hands and she laughed.

"It's fine"

"It's not, you're a widow and you didn't kill your husband. That was an insensitive joke"

Hilary laughed, "It was funny though. Don't feel bad" She pleaded reaching out for his hands then she gave it a soft squeeze, "You sha deserve small punishment. After all you're my baby now" She replied and he laughed, "I understand, spare the rod and spoil the child"

"Exactly!" She chipped and they both laughed.

"Thank God for Zoe"

"You've mentioned this Zoe for like ten times, I feel like I know her already" "She stood up for me, how can you just meet someone and call the person fatty bum bum? Can I walk up to him and say hey Afin! (Albino)? No! It's wrong, this people need to wake to that fact that you need to be sensitive to people's feelings. You don't know the shit people are going through, suicidal thoughts here and there"

Manny held her hands, "Hey....Hey.. It's okay. I love you regardless" He replied making her blush then she scrunched up her nose. "How was your day?" "We're still talking about you" "I want to talk about you"

"You're my favorite topic" He admitted melting her heart then she looked away in a shy manner, "Kai! You have this way of just making someone blush in public" She gazed at him and he smiled, "And you do it so well"

"The must be as the result of the food you ate. You've chop and belleful"

"Staring at your face is quiet satisfying too."

"Awn. Too much sweetness, I might need to test my blood sugar after this"

Manny laughed running his fingers on hers then she cleared her throat. "You said you had a good news to tell me" "Chill. Has Ossy made a choice on what he'll wear for his career day?" "No. He said he's waiting for God to speak to him"

Manny laughed out loud, "Say what?" "That was what he said oh, do I even have the power to argue? It was when I was attempting to talk too much, I dived into an awkward conversation about girls. I swear, I didn't even know how to end it. Thank God for the gift of a smart son who did the conclusion"

He laughed stomping his hand on the table, "It wasn't funny oh. At a point I was like, how did the conversation get here? He said he wants to ask God before putting on the uniform or costume. What Ossy cannot say does not exist"

"That's my prophet"

"Prophet kor? Elijah no do pass that one abeg! I already told him to make a choice oh. I really don't want that last minute search for a costume. Or else he's going to use anything, even if means tying a tape rule around his neck" She joked laughing at her solution.

Manny gasped and laughed, "Hilary you'lol be wicked to do that" "I can't kill myself. I didn't kill my mother" "Ah... The popular African mother line. How was your day?" "Mehn... It was just.. I don't know...... the whole routine of waking up, taking care of Ossy, sleeping, waking up to cook, sleeping again. I seriously don't want to gain more weight, apart from the weight sef... I'm bored." She pouts.

Manny knew it definitely had something to do with her meeting with Tatiana- she might be looking for a way to go back. But he wondered why she wasn't speaking directly about it. Wasn't that the essence of why he asked about her day? Why is she cutting corners?

"How was your visit to your old workplace?" "It was.... I met Zoe there again, apparently the interview was in there and she came late. I spoke to Madam Tatiana and she agreed to a personal interview but Zoe got thrown out by security."

"Wow"

"I still don't know what exactly happened... Zoe is kind of outspoken, she said her only crime was being confident. You know how Madam Tatiana can be? She is someone you guys knew from way back now so.... I don't have to explain It twice"

"You're trying to avoid the topic of how the meeting went"

"I am not trying to avoid it like that.... I'm just confused" She replied drumming her fingers on the table.

"About what?"

Hilary removed the spiral bind document from her bag then she handed it to him. "What's this?" He asked taking a quick glance at it, "A contract or can I call it a memorandum of agreement?" "What are you agreeing to?" "Resuming work at Tee Decor. It covers a promotion, a personal office space, at least three leaves a year, minimum of two weeks for each leave and a fat salary"

"Okay...."

"Is that all you've got to say?"

"What do you want me to say? It clearly looks like you're already considering it"

Hilary groaned, "I'm confused, that was why I went to church to pray and ask God for confirmation. Baby I don't know what to do" "Have you called Papa?" "No." She replied chuckling to herself, "You just called your cousin Papa, that's a first"

Manny kept a straight face and she suck in her laughter.

"Should I call him and talk to him?"

"Have you called your twin sister at least?" "No. I only messaged her. She's busy now, someone that's doing marathon. I don't want to bother her or be the reason why someone stole her phone. I even told her to keep her phone in her womb, even though it means tying it with a umbilical cord"

A laughter escaped his lips soothing Hilary who was already tired of seeing him give off the serious look.

"Guess who called me on my way here? Mrs Tokunbo, you might not know her but she's one of the client from Madam Tati's place"

"Oh"

"She wanted me to do a small emergency job but i told her that I don't have my tools, she asked me to go back to my boss that she misses my work " "And what did you say?"

"I don't know. I asked God for confirmation and she called... Could that be it?"

"Don't ask me I'm not God" He snapped to her shock, "You're angry" "Not exactly. Don't confuse that as a confirmation from God. That might just be your permissive will, that moment when you want something so bad that the devil takes advantage of it and brings you something else to take you away from God's will. Who knows? I might be wrong, I mean I'm not a Pastor, neither do I have the gift of seeing but I can sure discern"

"Babe, I'm just so confuse, I miss working and we've been looking for a good location but it isn't forth coming," "You make it sound like it's been months" "Dare hasn't done anything yet. What do you think I should do?" She asked and he laughed half heartedly.

"This is your choice, it's your shot to call"

"And yours too baby. I'm not doing this on my own remember"

Manny shrugged, "The good news I have to tell you, it's two actually" "What?" She asked and a smile curved his lips, "Gbadamosi congratulated sometime in January, something about a promotion" He whispered. "Oh my.." Hilary trailed off happily, "I've not even landed"

"As a good Nigerian I've drawn my own conclusion"

"Well, I knew about it on Friday.... I forgot to inform you, with the whole journey to Ghana....I didn't want to be too excited but I finally got a mail this morning."

"Awn. Congrats baby"

"Thanks and Dare called yesterday"

"Oh"

"Yes. He found a situable place, he thinks you're going to love it. He sent pictures and I love it already, it's a place I usually drive through, I just never knew it was up for sale. Call him up, check on it if you'll like it"

"Why didn't you say anything?"

"That was why I called for us to meet now but then...." He trailed off lifting the document up, "Apparently there's something else on your mind."

"I'm sorry"

Manny exhaled deeply, "You asked me what I feel about It. I feel she doesn't deserve you, even if she promised your own office space and a raise or even the whole world. No office space is worth living life in a place that makes you keep second guessing yourself and your potentials. That woman made you feel like unimportant. Do you think she'll change? If I know Tati enough, she's a user. She wouldn't have called you if her business wasn't on the line. I'm sure she sent that Mrs Tokunbo or whatever to call you. She pushed you away, let her live in the regret of her action. You going back to her will defeat that purpose! Have you sat down to think why she'll want you back? Because she sees in you what you don't see in yourself and that's the light that burns in you. You're the light her company needs, you've been the one giving them light all along, it only took her firing you to realize this. Now she knows she's in the dark, she's now make request for you to come back when you've made plans to start up your company"

"Our.. company"

"Same. Going back to her will put back light In her company but for you, it will be like putting a lid over a light that was meant to shine very soon. I hate sounding like I'm preaching but one thing I know babe is this, you're literally a light set on hill that can't be hidden. Going back to Tati will be like placing a bushel over it and I don't want that for you"

Hilary exhales in relief, it was just the word she needed to hear. "I told her about my plans, she said if I have intentions to steal her clients, she'll sue me and destroy my small company" "She even threatened you and you you're confused"

"I guess we can add fear to it too"

"Ignore her, all barks and no bite, don't let that scare you from chasing your dreams. You'll do just fine, you don't need her. "

Kilahi entered into her Grandma's room holding on to three yards of red crepe material. "Grandma good afternoon" "Good aftermoon dear, you guys took long oh. I was beginning to think you guys were racing to heaven"

Kilahi laughed, "Grandma!" "Eh now.." "Grandma can I borrow your sewing machine? Toor, Is it still working?" She asked while the old woman's gaze fell on the clothing material with her, "What's that one for? Is the sewing machine in Lagos faulty?" "No. I have a party to attend tonight. The Go initiative people invited me that's one of the reason I came late. I went to the market"

"Market? How many market do you know here?"

"Grandma, don't underestimate me oh, I'm a very determined person"

"I thought you were leaving today"

Kilahi shrugged and sat on the bed, "How will I do? I was invited, I called Mrs Aisha and I can't turn it down" "The flight kor?"

"Mrs Aisha will sort that out with the airline. I'm about to use my tired body to sew one simple style and wear" "Sannu.. I hope they'll give you like a day off" "I don't know"

"Chei!"

"It's well." She groaned laying in bed, "Is the machine still working?" "Yes it is" "Thank God, I know I should have asked before buying the material. I had faith" She groaned again, "My tayad is tired. Grandma come and carry me from this bed"

"Take a nap. I think I have something old school that will fit you"

Kilahi jerked up, "Thanks for the motivation Grandma. Let me go and pray first!"

Adufe knocked and entered into Deja's office. "Do you have a minute?" "I'm not in a chatty mood right now, please leave" Deja snapped and Adufe gave a nod, "I'll leave" "Wait. See, don't be offended but i don't want end up saying things that will get anyone angry. That's why I've been here"

"I understand. I'm sorry about Vincent"

"Why are you apologizing?"

"Don't get mad at me but I kind of listened in to you guys conversation"

"Why? That's wrong, you don't go around eavesdropping"

"I know! But I had to! For a long while now, I've been secretly shipping you and Vincent. It's obvious he liked you, even a blind man can see how much he did. Then I noticed the withdrawal and personally, I've been asking him but he hasn't been saying anything so, I grew curious. I'm sorry for listening"

Deja covered her palm over her face in shame. "God... Please leave" "I'm not going to judge for what you did. I'm sure it was a mistake, if you had known any better you wouldn't have done it"

She dropped her hands and her shoulder moved up in a shrug, "I was drunk, now he sees me as a slut. Maybe I'm a slut" "You're not!" "He looked at me that way" "He's just hurting, the guy loves you" She confessed taking a seat.

"Loved"

"No. Vincent still loves you, I've been shipping you guys for months now. This relationship must sail" "Something that sank before sailing" "It must sail and that depends on you. Do you love him?"

Deja shrugged, "What does it matter? He already has a girlfriend? I don't know if Its love but I get awfully jealous when I see his post on WhatsApp especially with his girlfriend Mercedes"

Adufe laughed, "It's not his girlfriend" "What? But he said..." "Ignore him! It's not his girlfriend anything, she's his cousin from his mother's side"

A smile formed on her face, "Are you sure you're not pulling my legs?" "No! Why will I pull your legs? Is it's your ears I want to pull instead so you can listen to me.  Vincent is as single as what I don't know. " "What should i do? Chase him all around Lagos? I have shame"

"So it's until he finds another woman"

Deja clicks her tongue, she didn't see the possibility. "He hates me, I feel like I shot him in the heart. All those times of treating him like a piece of shit and boom! I end up in bed with a complete stranger"

"He's hurting, you can give him time if you want. Just know that he's at a very vulnerable point now, you can apply pressure on the injury or leave the blood to flow. The ball is in your court, watcha gonna do?"

Gbadamosi pulled up in front of a mechanic garage and Temi walked towards him waving her hands. She opened up the front seat door then she got in and shut the door. "Good afternoon Gbada" "Good afternoon. What happened to your car?"

"It overheated before I got to the hospital"

Gbadamosi raised his brow questioning why she went to the hospital, he finally remembered, "Oh, for the test" "No for the exam" "I didn't ask a question, I remembered" He replied and she smiled. "What was the result?"

"You thought I'll wait for it? No! The hospital promised will email it to me"

"Where is the fun in that? Instead of going to the hospital to receive a congratulatory handshake from your doctor. Congratulations Ma, you're a few weeks pregnant!"

Temi laughed clipping her seat belt, "You watch too much Africa magic. You guys should not be too excited, I might not be pregnant. That was what I told Alade. Can you believe he woke up kissing my belly, he said he wants to communicate with his baby. I hope for his sake and mine and that I'm pregnant cause I'll die of embarrassment"

He chuckled starting the car, "You know you can do pee test right?" He asked making a turn then he drove off. "I wanted something really really accurate" "Those are accurate too" "Seeing the test 100% is what I want"

"What's your fear?"

Temi shrugged, "I don't know, fear of not getting pregnant after waiting so long. It happened to Susan, remember Susan? After she waited to run her PHD before getting married, she ended up having endometriosis" "You're not Susan"

"My PCOS Gbadamosi"

"It's not your Pcos, stop claiming ownership! You've been managing that thing since. You're not going to wait a year to have children, if others have been waiting, your case will be different. The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, don't forget we heirs of the father. The fullness belongs to us too, you take whatever you want, command whatever you don't want out. We have that authority through Christ, don't let fear override your faith"

She smiled, "Sometimes it comes to me and I ask what if? What if I can't get pregnant?" "I wasn't even ovulating during the honeymoon. My period is delayed, it can be the PCos." "It's not any PCOS, it's the baby that has formed already. You haven't had irregularities for sometime now. Temi calm down, don't doubt, just believe there's a baby growing in your womb already."

She smiled and heaved a sigh, "God I miss our talk, I miss us crashing at your place or Manny crashing at mine. This married life is not easy, Manny doesn't want to come over to eat my food. You come over now!" She pouts and he laughed.

"You're not even a good cook, why are you feeling yourself?"

Temi slapped his arm, "You know you can't compete with me right?" "Yen yen yen yen, that's all I'm hearing right now. Overgrown pride, your pride has tumor we need to operate on it!"

Gbadamosi laughed then he resumed playing a music in the car; one of Maverick city's song. "Sorry" He paused staring at Temi, "Do you want the music?" "No, but you know how I love Maverick city right?"

He respond with a twitch in forehead, "How's Kilahi? She's coming back today right?" "Plans changed. Thanks for reminding me, I said I was going to call her." He took a hand off the steering and held his phone.

His eyes contantly fanned upward looking in front of him and down the screen of his phone. He dialed her number and smiled as it rang. Then he repositioned his airpods, "Hey love," "Good afternoon Choicest. I'm sewing call me back"

"Ouch. Someone didn't miss me?"

"It sha feels nice to hear your voice even though I heard it this morning." "Let me leave you to it then"

"Wait... Why did you call?"

"I thought of you"

"I reminded you!" Temi yelled and he laughed, "Temi said she reminded me, how can I be reminded of my own missing ribs?" "Oh my God, is she with you? My regards to her"

Gbadamosi turns to Temi, "Kilahi sends her regard" "Me too. Tell her not to forget my Benue mango, the really big one" "Temi said you shouldn't forget her Benue mango"

"I bought yam for oh! It's in Lagos already, it's so big! it's a sample of what you should be looking out for to give to my people."

Gbadamosi laughed, "I'll find the one bigger than that. I won't want to fall the Yoruba nation's hands. We are going to Benue in grande style" "Oshey! You guys will shut down Benue State! For who? This small girl?"

"For you beautiful, for an amazing and beautiful soul. Even if we shut Benue down, your mere beautiful presence in that place will turn the place back up. Always remember that"

"Are you going out with Temi?"

"We are heading home to see Mom and the dramatic big mummies" "My regards to Mom and Dad. Have you visited Sister Joy, you told me to remind you"

"I did this morning"

"Awn, great. How's the baby?"

"She came looking like that lady. I wonder who our children will take after? Me or you?"

Kilahi laughed, "I only want them to have your complexion, but... when I think of it, you were dark oh, it's just the grace of God that helped you. Are you sure you didn't use bleaching cream" "I'm the one that shook the table, I should have just left it"

"It's a question. I have a strong gene, Benue people have strong genes! Go and do your research"

"Well, we'll know 10 months from now"

Kilahi gasped, "God you're so forward, you didn't even say 12 months" "Do you want to wait? I'm sorry for making the conclusion." He asked, "We are so not having this conversation now. All I know is that, the children can be fair, but they'll look like Mom. I feel it my guts"

"Seeing is believing" "I walk by faith and not by sight. I have faith my children will have your complexion but look like me" She responded and they both laughed.

"Choicest, you won't be angry but I want to go back to sewing my emergency dress"

"This one you're talking calling it emergency dress, remember one certain emergency dress you made and how it ended"

Kilahi laughed, "Don't remind me, you saw a color that wasn't part of the asoebi. I was just so sure you were a womanizer when you stood behind that day" "At least, at the end of the night, you realized I wasn't."

"The beginning of a beautiful love story"

"Can I say God made that thing happen cause I was already thinking of the religious lines I'll use to make advances at you that day"

She laughed running her hands through her weave, "Awn, because of this beauri" "Yes, so you had better not let the gown tear before someone will start to you catch feelings" "We can't let that happen" "We can't oh!" He affirmed.

"Can our date hold tomorrow like this?"

"Yes!" Kilahi screamed, "Why not? It's our second date, don't tell me you're changing your mind"

"You must be tired from everything"

"Even though, I miss your face. I want to see you again" She replied. "Same here. I have to go babe" "Thank you! And I mean that in the sweetest way possible, I'm trying to sew and I don't have time" Kilahi chuckles, "Choicest..." "Huh?"

"Mom's place that you're going like this, take it easy with her"

"I've heard. Oh Lord, I stand in awe of your greatness, thank you for your daughter Kilahi, thank you for what you're doing and where you're taking her to. Thank you for the change you're bringing to nations for nations must bow to your will so that nothing happens unless permitted by you."

"Yes" Kilahi muttered.

"I stand in awe of your omnipotent presence and I ask that you grant your daughter strength upon strength for the rest of the day."

"Amen"

"Bless us with your never ending love. Amen"

"Amen."

"I love you"

"I love you too" She responded and ended the call.

Gbadamosi blushed then he turned towards Temi whose eyes was on him. "Whaaat?" He asked, his eyes swiftly scanned her face in response.  "What did I do?" "The way you're looking at me" "Nothing, I'm just happy for you"

"For what?"

"I look at you and I see a man hopelessly in love. Kilahi is working" "Is it that obvious?" "Are you seriously asking that? I can't wait for the wedding, it's like next month should do and come. When I look at my new year's check list, I am more than confident that this year's is going to be filled with amazing things"

Gbadamosi laughed, "Wait you had a check list?" "Yes! Number one was my wedding and two was your wedding, three Manny's wedding" "What was number four?" "A grandchild for mom, and we have Ossy already"

"And yours this year"

"I'm hungry. I know you're having your Monday fast, feel free to watch me eat. Take me out first"

Benue

Kilahi smoothed down her a pieces of the cloth on the sewing machine. She rolled the wheels and began to thread on the machine until she ran out of bobbin thread so she pulled out the bobbin then she looked around for the second red thread she bought.

"Something that fell down five minutes ago, I'll have to look for it in Kafachan." She laughed staring at the other red thread on the thread holder then she hissed feeling quite lazy to remove the threads from every tension.

Her phone rang and she rolled her eyes, "Dan boro uba! Who is calling again?" She exclaimed then she answered the call, "The number you're trying to call at the moment is not reachable at the moment please call back later" "How many moment are you adding? Which kain network provider be this?"

Kilahi laughed, "I'll give MTN a run for their money" "Yes they'll run for their money" Hilary answered and they both laughed. "Hilary I'm sewing, it's today that all the world knows that they'll call me"

"You don't want disturbance but you're online." "Am i? I must have left my data on. This sewing wants to finish my strength but my God is stronger than it, do you know how many times I've strapped the belt?"

"I don't understand tailor language, my CV in tailor ends with making stitches with thread and needle but sorry sha. You sound stressed out"

"Well..." She trailed off looking at the floor in search of the other red thread, "It's well." "saw the message and the picture of the material and the style you sent on WhatsApp. It's fine but why didn't you buy velvet?"

"I hope you'll give me two pint of your blood so I call sell and buy an original velvet"

Hilary laughed, "How much is velvet? Stop talking like a poor girl, you're a rich woman" "I claim it. Everyone is just calling me big madam, I won't reject It again... I claim it in Jesus Name" "Velvet or suede would have been nice on that style"

"Let's leave Velvet for another future style. It was 4k per yard. Let me manage this one, it's not as if I'm going there to collect an award now. Is Ossy back?"

"No. Won't you ask about me?"

"How are you?"

"I'm fine"

"How far that stuff? I hope you read the preceeding message before I sent the picture of the cloth" "Yes." "How far? I hope you've not signed that agreement"

"I didn't sign it"

"Better! I would have beaten you up"

"Look who wants to beat someone up" Hilary laughed, "If I use the bony side of my bum bum to press your neck, you'll be the only to tap out of the wrestling ring."

"What will happen if I place my whole weight on you?"

"I'll simply bust into Yoruba and I'll ask, Ki la gbe. ki le ju?" "That's the first Yoruba I've heard you speak, congratulations you're better than me" "We don't always make noise, our talent is underground"

"We have heard, issokay!"

"Return the document to her. Don't stress yourself, that job is not for you." "I was just confuse at that moment and when Mrs Tokunbo called to give a deal ad advise that I go back. I thought God was speaking through her"

"Madam rest! Let me tell you something that happened today. After Mba informed me about the party, I was worried, I called Mrs Aisha, i expected her to disagree so I'll have an excuse but she didn't. In between the marathon and everything that was going on, I started to think of what I'll wear, my appearance generally because Sewuese isn't with me; she would have done a little make up on my face. On Saturday too I was worried I was about what my financial quota will be for my wedding not until Gbadamosi gave me a word of assurance from God. Then I asked myself, why does worry pop up everytime in our mind? Every little things sends us into a blood Pressure rising thoughts. I'm a child of God, I have the Holy spirit in me so I shouldn't be confused, I should know what to do because my father knows what to do at all times. God is not an author of confusion but of peace and order so my mind is supposed to be like my father's mind at all times. He didn't fashion me to be confused at all then it rang deep in my spirit where the first confusion started in the book of Genesis when the serpent confused and convince Eve to eat forbidden fruit. In my conclusion, confusion originates from the devil so I started binding the devil. When you're confuse, there's always the high tendency of making mistakes especially when we are trying to use our head instead of letting the Holy spirit guide us"

"You can't separate humans from confusion"

"That Is what the devil wants us to think. He's playing this confusion game so well! The devil is liar! He doesn't have anything than lies! From the beginning he lied and till today that's all he has. He creeps into your mind and makes you feel like it's a normal routine to be in that confusing state. The country is not going well, they've not paid me my salary, how will I do this? When will I become beautiful, when will I be healed, when will I get married? It's a whole lot! We keep forgetting we are empowered by God, he's our source, we should think like him, the eyes of our minds should flooded with light and understanding, not confusion! There was a reason why God created light first. We need to have this understanding! There's this portion that just dropped in my mind now. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts and let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; when we let the troubles of the word act as a generator that powers our mind. We are going to have that palpable sense of uncertainty at all time. We'll be like believers who don't know what to do because we don't know what we possess and it's quite embarrassing when I think of it. Sometimes I wonder how embarrassed God gets with us, like Gosh! Why is she acting powerless? I've given her all she needs to breakthrough!"

Hilary chuckled then Kilahi turned her head backwards then she saw the thread lieing just close to the couch, almost about to roll under.

She chuckled and rose up to pick it before she'll end up looking for it again. "I blessed God for that understanding and you know, listening to you right now ehn, I can say this will my full chest that confusion is a dark room, a confused man is that woman or man sitting in that dark room. Any light that shines, he or she feels it's a way out of the room, that Mrs Tokunbo that called you, was shinning a confusing light unto your path. It's confusing because it seems like light but it's still darkness. Whether you follow that path, you'll still end up in the dark because it's not God's will for you"

"And you know this because?"

"Because I know. Each day, i moved from just feeling like everything will be alright to knowing. Hilary, you a city set up on top a hill that should not be hidden working under someone who doesn't appreciate you. You are better than this, you should be on the hill-top, just like your name"

Hilary sobbed.

"What? Did I say anything bad?" Kilahi asked, "No! Manny quoted the same scripture, Mama the Mama. God bless you for me, I don't what I would have done in this life without you"

"Avoid me! I'm not God, thank God!"

"Thank God I called you. You just cleared my doubt even more. I was going to call Papa after this"

"So skipped your spiritual father"

"I said I should call my spiritual mother now"

Kilahi hissed, "Stop it!" "Stop what? You just dished the word of God to me! You're doing well. You're soon going to be our Mama, I might as well start getting used to calling you that" "Who set the standard? We're friends" "Mama love" "Hilary!" "Mama Mia" "I'll call you Mama Ositadinnma" "Is that one a threat? I don't mind, it's part of my name alright?"

"Must they call me Mama?"

"How was the marathon?"

"Fine..... I had friends, people from my Instagram joined because I asked them to. They were treating me like a celebrity. Gosh! I felt uncomfortable and they now gave me small thing to do"

"When you're done feeling uncomfortable, come and sign my autograph"

"Hahaha... hila-rious"

Ebonyi

In a beautiful boutique, Aunty Abebi held a blue chiffon dress feeling it's texture. "This will certainly look good on you Ma" The sales attendant said but she hung the dress back. "I really don't wear colorful dresses, I prefer gloomy ones"

"The blue really brought out your skin color Ma"

Aunty Abebi exhaled, "What am I doing here?" She muttered to herself then she heard her phone ring. She took out her phone from her hand bag then she a swrred the call from Aisha.

"Funny you chose to call me now. What if I had been kidnapped?"

"I knew you can take care of yourself. You always walk about with pepper spray and tasers, I feared for the man's life even more"

Aunty Abebi chuckled.

"How did it go

"It was better than I imagined, we have a date tomorrow, although I've not given him feedback. I intend calling Moni to cancel my appointment for tomorrow"

"That was why I told you to take the other wig."

"Oh please! You're talking about wigs, I don't have what to wear!"

"That's why we have boutiques! Find something"

"I'm there already and I don't know what to buy. I can't believe I'm doing this for real. Maybe I should just return back" "Is that fear i sense?"

"I don't like the way I feel around him, I feel vulnerable. I haven't laughed this much in years, he's funny and he looked so good. He looked really good! Really good and I can't even deny it"

"I'm happy you're considering exploring that possibility." She let out a deep sigh of worry, "Is everything okay?" "No. It's Baba's medical appointment today, it's getting bad Aunty Abebi, our father isn't feeling"

"Your father, not mine"

"He asked to see you. He really wants to see you"

Aunty Abebi ended the call staring at a black dress.

Hilary looked up at the ceiling of the building then her eyes traveled across the stairs leading to the first floor. "Are they leasing the entire building? It's so big" "Yes. Initially, he was looking out to a church to buy the whole building. I've been trying to convince him since last week, he finally agreed on Sunday. He agreed to lease it to you first, maybe you two can buy it later"

"Are you sure this building is not like haunted or something? I mean for the price, it's actually quite tempting"

Dare laughed, "No it's not. I already explained the whole thing to Manny, the owner of the land isn't in the country, you know all those old men without families to inherit his property so he's selling some off before he dies. Legal documents will be signed, you don't have to worry about any land drama. No Uncle is going to spring up to fight over the land with you"

Hilary laughed, "Thank you." "This one you're saying thank you, do you want it? Or should I find a man of God that will be interested?" "Are you kidding me? For the first time Dare, I finally believe you're an agent"

"Wow" He chuckled placing his hands on his chest, "You have no idea how that makes me feel" He added sarcastically and he chuckled, "So I guess I've gained back my honor"

"Yes! This place is more than I asked for, I feel like God answered my prayers and added jara to it"

"You're going to need helping hands, I hope you have a work force on ground?" He asked answering a call with his airpods. "Excuse me Miss Nnamdi" He whispered walking away from her.

Then she exhaled thinking of the last question he asked. Of course she needed help but who will she call? Two names popped Into her mind, Zoe and Uju. She smiled contemplating who to put a call through to first.

Uju recently resumed working in her brother in law's company so she wasn't sure she'll show interest. She shrugged, it's worth the try! After a, it's because of her she lost her job, she instantly gave her a call.

"Hello, good afternoon Hilary"

"Good afternoon Uju, how are you?"

"I'm fine. Kee kwanụ? (How are you?) I was even thinking of calling you, the thought crossed my mind but I've been busy"

"Oh. With work?"

"If you can call it that, today I'm on baby sitting duty. I'm baby sitting my sister's children, how are you? I heard you were at the company"

"Jesus Christ! Your own has passed monitoring spirit"

Uju laughed, "Calm down before you cast and bind me. I only called what's his name to ask him of his baby when he told me you showed up. I was just planning to call you. What were you looking for in that witch's layer?"

"She called me"

"For what? And you went?"

"She offered me my job back"

"Biko, kwuo ịhe ahụ ọzọ (Please say that again), she did what?" "Offered me my job" "Chere chere.... don't tell me you took it back" "I was confuse" "What were you confuse about? Working for the same woman who heartlessly threw the both of us out of her company. What was your crime? No, what was mine? You're better off working elsewhere, if you're looking for a job, you can join me in baby sitting. It's ten times better than working for Tatiana, I wonder why her mother gave her that kind of name! It's the name that's affecting her"

Hilary laughed, "Uju, I'm starting up my own interior design company" "Oh my God, awn congratulations. I'm so happy for you! That's what you deserve, to be a boss of your own, not like that nonsense Madam Tatiana."

"I know you have a job already.... I was just wondering"

"Yes!" She answered and Hilary laughed, "What are you saying yes to?" "I didn't even listen to what you were wondering, continue Hilary" "I was wondering if you'd like to work with me?"

"Yes!" She replied.

"Yes raise to the power of one thousand. I am ready"

Hilary exhaled in relief, "Really? What about your work?" "Which work? Abegi! What I do most of the time is take care of my sister's children. This will be an opportunity to learn under you as the mere motal than I am" "I hope you know I've not started anything yet but I'll see what I can do at the end of the month but we need to arrange the place"

"Babe, calm down. Even if it's just my help you want, I'll willing do it for you so... Count me in 100%"

"Thank you. This means a lot to me"

"Abi i should be saying thank you. I hope you're not doing this because you got me fired."

"Yes and No"

Uju laughed, "Don't worry we'll talk more when we meet. That'll be when?" "Will tomorrow morning be fine?" "Sure. See you dear"

"You too" She concluded and ended the call then she smiled knowing she has one help. She exhaled quickly pulling up Zoe's number on her phone. Zoe picked up that call on second trial.

"Hello. Look who's calling out of the blues" She said making munching noise. "Is this Zoe?" "No, it's her hologram, Zoe has gone to planet Venus at the moment. Feel free to drop her a message" She replied and Hilary busted into laughter.

"You sounded different"

"Maybe cause i'm eating. Come and join me by the way! It's bread and left over sardine, i was cooking beans but i ran out of gas." "Thanks. What happened to the beans"

"Don't ask. How was your meeting with the Queen Jezebel? I don't think I have rights to that question"

"It was... I was offered a job"

"Wow...." She trailed off, "I can't even say congratulations. Wait, wait... That freaking lady wasn't scouting for a new employee was she? She was looking for a new replacement for you? Maybe that was why she called for an interview, I'm sure those people, just like me only wasted their transport fare. I can bet on anything that she won't be choosing anyone if you accept her proposal of which you will be stupid to. No offense!"

"None taken but how did you know?"

"Know what?"

"That she was looking for a replacement"

Zoe laughed, "I know people like her, I've worked with women and men that are like her so... Nothing shocks me anymore! But I'll be shocked if you agree" "Why?"

"Because.... I don't know, I feel you've got potential and if she sees the need to call you back, damn that means you'll an oil well she's hoping to drill from. Women like that use, drain you and don't even appreciate you for your effort. You're a good woman who doesn't deserve that"

Hilary smiled, "You know... I've been looking for a building to set up my own company and the search has been fruitless but God who came through. There's a place I love and it needs work and I don't have any workforce except my partner who Is my boyfriend and my friend an old colleague Uju. What do you say about working with me?" This was followed by a dead silence. She could hear Zoe breathing from the other end but she didn't utter a word.

Hilary got worried, "Zoe, are you still there? Okay I'm sorry for bringing it up, I didn't know it will offend you" "No no no no!" ZoE replied instantly, "I'm not offended, quite the opposite, I am pleased, I feel honored"

"Really?" She asked letting a sigh of relief, "I thought..." "I was just in shock. Again woman, you left in shock. You only just met me today? What If I'm a witch or I have a wicked side or.... i decided to cause your downfall? What if I'm a bad bitch?"

"Well, I asked God for an answer and I didn't know I already had one. God had everything planned out right from the moment you sat with me in that BRT up until we met again. It wasn't a coincidence we met twice. You said something while we were in the BRT, how you ended up late and all. I feel you were late for a reason, maybe God made you late so we could meet. Might be, might not be, but I'm willing to explore the possibility if you're interested"

Zoe laughed, "Will I be earning like Six figures?" "Six is too small, nine is better" She replied and they both laughed. "Um.... When should I show up for my interview Ma?" "There's no interview"

"There has to be an interview! I need to work for the job. Even if you're hiring your cousin, conduct an interview or a test, it's business, there's a place for charity and room for mercy but there should also be a right amount of discipline and for discipline sake, I won't accept the job without an interview Ma"

"Call me Hilary"

"Yes Ma"

"Zoe!" Hilary screamed and they both giggled, "I'm so close to tears, thank you for considering me as a worthy employee" "There's no company yet" "You're a Christian right? Let's walk by faith and not by sight, let's call forth things that are not as though they were. When can I come for the interview Ma?"

"Tomorrow"

"Can you send me the address of the company?"

"Sure thing" She ended the call. This was followed by an incoming call from the school bus driver.

4:52 pm

Sir Alamo drove into the George's home then he pulled over at the parking lot. "Now we'll have to pretend and act like we're having the best relationship when we're not just because of those women" Rev Coker complained and Sir Alamo stepped out to give them space. .

Mrs Coker rolled her eyes, "Not now! We drove all the way from home to this place, you didn't complain but now you chose to because you just love to see me angry" "Maybe cause you always look pretty when you're angry" He answered winking at her.

"Oh please! Save the flattery"

"You look even more beautiful when you wear a smile and I've missed you smile. Your real smile"

She shut her eyes for a moment as if composing herself before she spoke then she opened them up shooting angry darts from it, "If that's your silly attempt at being romantic, then save it!" "Honey" "Can we just get this over with? Let's just go in pretend we're that happy couple, at least till we get home"

"I'm tired of living that life! I am tired, I want the woman I got married to. Not this stranger you turned into" "Whose fault is it?" "How long will you keep saying that and how long will I keep apologizing? I want us to stop pretending and be romantic once again like in the past not like enemies with sexual benefits"

Mrs Coker pushed the door opened then she got out. Sir Alamo gently opened the door for Rev Coker who stepped out looking at the sky, "God!" He muttered watching his wife walk away then he turned towards Sir Alamo.

"I'm out of game, I don't know what cards to play. This woman is such a mule!"

At about 5:30 in the evening, Gbadamosi, Manny and Temi walked into sounds of laughter in his parent's living room. Seated was their parents, Aunty Toyin and two other women. "Mummy Bams, Mummy Ay" She shrieked then she knelt down greeting everyone.

Something she originally will not do on a normal day but this wasn't a normal day! It was a day to act like a proper Yoruba girl especially in front of these women.

Gbadamosi and Manny quickly greeted everyone in a prostrated posture and Aunty Toyin quickly laughed, "It's amazing how we only see this part of them when it's your big mummies" "E dide duro jare! (Rise up)" Mummy Bams snapped clapping her hands while she watched them rise up.

"I miss these children. To think there was a time when they used to sit on my laps"

Mrs Coker watched her son perch on the arm of a chair close to his father. He was trying his best to avoid her gaze. Gbadamosi perched on the arm of a chair close to Aunty Toyin.

"I know what will be in the mind of you children is why we're both here. We came to participate in your mother's birthday plan. The moment Temitope told me she was having magazine published to commemorate the birthday, I knew I had to get involve. Why will there be a photoshoot and I won't be part of it?" Mummy Bams asked and everyone laughed.

"It's true! A whole me?"

Temi cleared her throat, "Mummy when's the photoshoot again?" Temi asked looking towards her Mom who smiled instantly, she can't recall the last time her daughter spoke to her in thst tone, in a public gathering. "I don't know exactly, it's this week. We want to fix it on a day that will be convenient for everyone"

"We can never have a day like that! It's either we pick a date or nothing."

"Well, Feyi and Ere will be coming around with their fiance for the shoot, Alade needs to be free" "Oh! Alade can make compromise!" Temi replied dismissively, "Let's not worry about him. This idea is sweet, so we'll all be having our life partners on the magazine"

Mrs George smiled, "That's the idea, for each chapter they'll flip through, there's a reason to give thanks to God. I mean all those who thought we'll be celebrating our birthday with our children still single will see for themselves what God has done" "I love when people brag in a coded way" Manny teased her.

"It's called a testimony. The magazine will be a testament of God's love in our family. Let's call it a holy kind of bragging" She replied and everyone laughed.

"Manny love, how are you doing?" Mrs George asked, "I'm fine" He replied with a smile.

Mrs Coker itched with envy, Manny prefers her sister a hundred times than his own Mom!

"And work? Bawo ni se" "It's fine. I still have to head back after this meeting. I won't be staying for a long time"

"That's a shame. At least stay for dinner"

"No"

"Your son is fine too, thanks for asking" Gbadamosi chipped in provoking laughter from everyone's lips. Aunty Toyin looked up at him, "How's our lepa bride to be doing?" She asked and Gbadamosi blushed.

"She's fine"

"I love when a woman makes a man blush" Mummy Bams responded, "I take it you love her" "More than anyone can imagine"

"So technically the only person that won't be taking pictures with a future partner is Maniola" Aunty Toyin chipped and he scoffed, "I have a woman" "Iro nla! (Big lies) You have a woman and I didn't hear about it"

"It's true Aunty Toyin, Manny has one" Temi replied. Mrs Coker quickly interrupted her daughter, "Shouldn't we talk about drink preference for the birthday?" "We were talking about"

"Nothing!" She cuts in, "Manny isn't in any serious relationship at the moment. Let's leave at that"

Manny scoffed again, "Contrary to what my mother just said, I am in a serious relationship with a woman I love" He announced, "She has a son which I have taken to be mine"

"Maniola"

"I'm not done yet Mom"

"Manny" Temi called out clasping her hand in plea then she turned towards her mother, "Can we not do this now?" "Do what exactly? Talk about the woman I love?" Manny asked.

"I can spend all day talking about her!"

"Manny that wasn't what I meant, this is not the right moment for this. Gbada, help me out here"

Aunty Toyin hissed, "You mother might have her reason for fretting, what an elder can see" "This elder is not seeing anything! The only thing she sees is negative in everyone"

"Maniola!" Mrs George yelled.

"Will you shut keep quiet there! Do you realize you're speaking to your mother?" Mummy Bams snapped, "Does she realize I've run out of patience too?"

"Lenu e! Maniola"

Manny rose up, "Like I said I won't be staying for too long" "Manny" Mr George called out, "Sit" He demanded and he did, "Your mother deserves an apology" "Sir.." "That's no way to speak to parent. She might be wrong and immature in her approach but you certainly have no right to talk to her in that manner"

Manny nodded, "I'm sorry Sir, it's nerve racking" "I'm not your Mom" "He can save his apologies, maybe tuck into his pocket on his way cause I don't give a damn about listening to something he doesn't mean"

Mrs Coker shut her eyes, "That relationship cannot work" "You can't say that Teni!" Her husband countered, "We are trying to turn off one fire, you're adding fuel" "It won't work!"

"It will work!" Manny snapped then he continued, "The only sin i committed is falling in love with that woman and her son. Is love a crime? Or maybe it's you that's allergic to love!""

"How dare you?!"

Mrs George palmed her face.

Aunty Toyin gasped, "Are you sure this boy has not been charmed? Ah! Let's check well oh, it's like he has been charmed." "I've not been charmed, Aunty Toyin, please butt out of this" "Uncle calm down, i know you're big and you can beat me now"

"That wasn't what I meant"

"What do you mean? You're speaking badly in front of elders, you feel you can't be tamed then definitely you can beat us. I'm not the most respectful woman and I don't need your respect. I have my reasons for asking Manny, don't look at me like i'm your enemy. Your mother might just be right to be concerned."

"Like Mummy was right about Kilahi too"

"That one was personal hatred. You see the kind of women we have today, they'll do anything to trap the first good and financially stable man they set their eyes on"

"Hilary is not that kind of person" Gbadamosi finally spoke up, "She's a good woman with an amazing son and she will never resort to using diabolic means to win Manny's heart"

Aunty Toyin blinked then she faced Manny, "Wait oh... Hilary? Is it the chubby Hilary? omo Igbo, Hilary from the wedding? The one you were talking to at the wedding?"

"Yes" Manny replied and a smiled curved her lips then she clapped her hands, "You did not say it quickly now! I didn't know. When did the relationship start?" "Last week"

"Wow" She muttered turning towards Mrs Coker, "Remember the girl I made a bouncer on Temi's wedding? The one that helped me organized the sharing of gifts. Oh, that girl helped me that day. She stayed till the end of the party, even after everyone left, she didnt leave. Even though we started on a wrong foot we managed to get along and I realize she's a good person. I personally observed her, she didn't take anything for herself like other women would. The only thing she took home was what I gave personally to her. That's not the best yard stick to measure behavior of a person but first impression counts for me, just like Gbadamosi Kila...what's her name sef? I keep forgetting"

"Kilahi" Gbadamosi answered.

"Although i never knew she had a child but I like her character. Good but fiesty too like all these young children like their women"

Mummy Ay finally spoke up while looking towards Mrs CoKer's angle , "If Toyin can assert to that fact, I mean for someone that quarrels with virtually everyone, maybe we should give this Hilary a try" "She has a son" "Single mothers remarry! I was a single mother when I remarried, if all mother in law think that way, I probably would have been single"

"Why does this feel like a gang up?"

"No one is ganging up against you" Mrs George replied with a sigh afterwards, "We're simply asking you to reconsider this. Like i reconsidered Kilahi. Maybe Manny really loves the Mother and her son. He's not going to abandon them when things get heated Teni." She replied sending a secret message she didn't want the other ladies to know.

"If she is God's will for him, there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. The best you can do is yeild to it. That was my message to the church and the women generally on Sunday. Let's not turn ourselves into a stumbling block to our children's happiness. I personally can't wait to have my daughter in law, everyone of them on my magazine. I feel those who need to be on that magazine should be there, no one should be left out"

Aunty Toyin agreed, "No one!" She chipped in and Mrs Coker rose up, "Excuse me" She muttered leaving the sitting room where she found Bella standing as though she had been caught eavesdropping.

She zoomed past her. Aunty Toyin followed her.

Bella walked into the sitting room then she flashed a smile at Gbadamosi whose face turned sour on seeing her. "Good afternoon Pastor Gbadamosi" She greeted gently sitting on a side stool.

"Good evening Manny, good evening..." She trailed off turning towards Temi, "You must be Temi Coker, the one that just got married." "Oh... I can't believe I'm as popular as my brother"

"I've done my research. What did I miss?" She asked. "Nothing!" Mrs George answered, "You didn't miss a thing! So Bella has been handling the publicity for my birthday. She'll be covering it on her blog. She suggested the magazine and the photoshoot, she's a brilliant woman, I'll have to hand that to her"

Bella smiled, "Thank you Ma. You say the nicest thing" "Oh please! You deserve it for working tirelessly to see that I get the best. That's why I'm suggesting, it's a suggestion though that you cover my son's wedding next month. If only he agrees to"

Gbadamosi cleared his throat, "No!" "Why? She's good at what she does" "It's a Christian marriage" "Bella mentioned that she is your new church member, she's bring again so, why not give her a try?" "Because I don't want to"

Mrs George gave a nod, "It was just a suggestion anyway" "Mom, I appreciate your help, I really do but in this circumstance, I'll have to say no!" "Like you always do" She whispered. "What?" "Nothing."

Bella smiled, "Have you guys chosen a wedding planner yet?" "No" "I have a few I can suggest" "Thank you Pastor AmazingGrace will do" "I'm not a wedding planner but i have a lot of ideas I'll like to share with you Sir"

"I don't need them, thank you very much."

Mrs George wondered why he son sounded cold towards her, if she knows him well enough. He probably doesn't like her!"

"When are we having our engagement party?" Mummy Bams asked to Gbadamosi's shock. He looked towards his mother clearly disappointed, "Mom" "I didn't mention anything to her"

"When is it going to be?" Mummy Ay asked, "There won't be any engagement party" "There you're wrong oh" Mummy Bams replied rising up, "Ha! You're the one saying your own, that engagement party must hold, the only thing we want is your wife, you don't have to show up if you don't want to but you see that party before the main party, it must hold"

"Without my consent"

"Ani se! we are not seeking for your consent! Do you know how long we've been praying for you to finally get married? Now you've taken a step but you don't want us to throw party. We will party oh, you see that party? We will party it and pepper all the people that needs peppering, awon Salome or bad omen or whatever her mother gave her, she must be peppered. She will be first on the list of Invitees! I say this on behalf of your mother and as a big mummy to you, sweetheart, the party will hold, if you don't wanna come, your loss! forget about it. We will miss you but we'll certainly celebrate on your behalf."

Manny smiled on seeing Gbadamosi's defeated look then he rose up plunging his hands into his pocket. "I have to go now, I have to get to the station. Mummy Bams, Mummy AY, it was nice to see you. Will you be going to the states very soon, I won't mind taking you guys out for dinner to apologize for my bad behavior"

Mummy Bams smiled. "There's plenty of time dear. Maybe we can finally meet the woman responsible for the bad behavior" "She's an amazing woman. That I promise, bye everyone" He bowed his head leaving the room.

Aunty Toyin leaned against the wall in the guest room then she heard the flushing sound from inside the toilet. Her sister unlocked the door then she got out of the toilet with a wet face. "What are you still doing here?" "Sister mi, you need to take it easy"

"You're preaching to the wrong crowd Toyin" "I know exactly who I'm preaching to. I feel she's a good person, this Hilary woman"

"Because she didn't take souvenirs for herself?'

"If you want to know the behavior and true character of an average Nigerian, put him or her in a party and see how he or she reacts when they're sharing food and gifts"

"People pretend all the time"

"The spirit that comes with sharing of food and gift can be untameable! Or stealing gifts for yourself but she didn't and I had my eyes on her for a while, I didn't even know when I lost guard. You know I don't lose guard easily!"

"My problem is the boy, will Manny love him? What will happen after two years, three?.Or when he starts having his own children? I don't like the idea, I feel it won't work"

"Not everyone is like you Sister mi. You abandoned Tanimola and your children. It was your choice and you made bad ones. Adìyẹ tó ńṣu s'ínú íṣasún, sàréè rẹ ló ńbàjẹ ( A hen that defecates into a soup pot desecrates its grave). They say what goes around comes around. You abandoned a son because he wasn't your blood and now your son has a son that isn't his.
Maybe this is destiny giving you a second chance to finally make things right. You've spent 28 years being bitter and hating yourself, this birthday might just be the sweetness your life needs. God gave Aunty Temi an early birthday gift of three daughter in law. Perhaps this is your own early birthday gift, an amazing son in law like Alade, a future daughter in law, a grandson and an opportunity to put the right people in that magazine and I'm talking about the other son you abandoned. Sister mi, make things right!"

Mrs Coker wept bitterly, "Where should I start from? I'm still angry at Badejo, where should I start from to pick the broken pieces of my life? Where?" "Anywhere is just fine, I see you talking to Temi already so... anywhere will go a long way to determining how real your birthday goes. For the first time in a long time, can we not pretend like everything is okay when they're not?"

Vincent, Osasu, Irene and a few others got invited into a lounge by Mercedes's boyfriend who had a surprise proposal planned out for her. At the bar, Vincent settled in with Osasu. Irene sat down next to him. He order for a glass of vodka, then he slugged it all at one gulp.

Osasu laughed, "I've always been number one when it comes to influencing you to drink but today ehn.... I don't like your reason for drinking. You know you can't hold your liquor." "I need something to make me forget her! Every time I see her, every damn time I see her, my heart beats with joy. I am still damn in love with her and it hurts."
"Well, you can't completely forget her easily"

"I wish it was that easy"

Osasu rolled his eyes now staring at Irene. "If I got a dollar for each time he talks about Deja girl, I'll probably be rich by now" "Give him a break, he's hurting" "That girl is not worth it, I don't know why he's stressing himself. Girl way dey knack stranger, girls like that probably have sickness"

"And guys like you?" She snapped waiting for a response, "I'm a guy" "So it's different when you're the guy. See, I'm not trying to justify what she did but I'm a girl too and at some point, we've all done crazy things we're not proud of. I know for a fact that I have so... Let's leave judging her to focusing on Vincent more okay?"

Osasu shrugged then he rose up from the bar stool, "He has been stuck on this babe for a year now, I want him to get his head out of the clouds. If you can do it, please help me" He begged and walked away.

"One more bottle" Vincent requested grinning at Irene and the bar tender set the drink in front of him. His smile swept over her, "I don't want to carry a drunk home, you need to be in your right sense for Mercedes, she's the reason why we're gathered here"

"Can we date?"

"Are you asking me out?"

"Yes"

"No... Not now, not in this state"

He slugged another glass of vodka down, this time, it wasn't at a gulp. She smiled and put the glass down on the counter. "In as much as Mercedes call me in as a distraction, I won't bring myself down to take advantage of you in this situation. You need to heal first" She advised then they both heard clapping and screaming cheers behind.

They turned to see Mercedes standing there surprised while her boyfriend went on one knees.

Mrs George will never let her guest leave without having dinner. She even invited Bella to join them. They sat at the dinner table eating jollof rice and chicken. She sat across Gbadamosi. Even though everyone was engaged in separate conversation, she couldn't stop staring at him even though she was chatting with Rev Coker.

It wasn't a loud conversation, they were whispering most of the time. Mrs Coker couldn't keep her eyes off the both of them. Temi noticed, even her husband did so he deepened the conversation and even laughed more to make his wife jealous.

"Laughing with a married man eh!" Mummy Bams teased and Bella laughed, "No! Mr Coker was just suggesting ideas for the magazine." "Shh... You'll ruin the surprise" He whispered.

"He wants a page or more to talk about how much he loves his wife" She blurted out. Mrs Coker blushed, "Oh please, my husband has flattering lips, don't believe a word he tells you"

Mr George shot a look at her. Everyone except, the big mummies and Bella understood her insinuation!

"So, Bella, are you in a serious relationship? I'm curious" She added and Bella cleared her throat pushing her chair forward then she crossed her legs, "No" "So it's not serious" "I'm not in any relationship although I'll love to be someday" She answered and with every word she made gestures towards Gbadamosi.

"I mean I'll like to find very very good man" She answered stretching her legs to his under the table.

Gbadamosi flinched. He did want to acknowledged what was happening under the table, perhaps It was a mistake but her legs still played with his even though he tried to shake it off.

This atrocity went unnoticed by all except Rev Coker who noticed that Bella's legs were flying under the table then he looked over at Gbadamosi who had stopped eating.

"I want a man that will sweep me off my feet and make me a happy woman"

"Any man in mind?" Mrs George asked and she bit her lips, "Yes. I believe it was the bible that made it clear that he that finds a man, finds a good thing"

Rev Coker cleared his throat, "The man does the finding" "Well, I found a good thing in this one. I have my eyes particularly on him, he's really really handsome, he's god fearing" She paused trying hard to locate his crotch. For half a second, there was nothing. And then she felt it.

Gbadamosi stood up, "I have to leave now. I just remembered something I have to do" "Like what?" Mrs George complained pointing at his food, "You're not even done with your" "I'm sure Gbadamosi has 123 things he has to do. Let's free the man, he made it here that's enough"

"Thank you Uncle. Good night everyone"

"I'll walk him out" Rev Coker announced.

Temi held Gbadamosi's hand as he walked by then she looked up at him, "Are you fine?" She whispered and he gave a nod, "We'll chat" "Okay" She replied watching him leave and her father behind him.

Gbadamosi exhaled loudly on stepping out of the house, "Jesus Christ!" He muttered then he felt a pat on his back. "Whatever you have going on with that woman" "There's nothing going on between me and Bella" He replied facing him.

"I saw what happened"

"I'm the victim here"

"Whatever is going on"

"There's nothing going on! I don't sleep with my members, I don't go around frolicking with women. You know that" "What I saw..."

"I don't know what her deal is. She comes into the church, pretending to be born again. Here she is playing miss seductress. I don't even know what to say or what to do?" "Report to your Mom, women have the power to cause problems but they can as well sort them out too. I'm sure she'll have ideas, let her know the woman she hired"

"Bella is a public figure and I'm trying to save my face and the face of my family from probable scandals! Imagine what mom will do if she finds out but the real problem is what she'll tell the world about me and my family. She's really getting on my nerves but I just want to stay still and let God lead"

"Sometimes, actions needs to be put in place to prevent unforeseen circumstances like in my instance. When you fall into temptation, apart from redemption we have through Christ, there's no going back from the damage or the impression imprinted into the hearts of those affected. My marriage is still suffering from it till date, your aunty doesn't trust me anymore. So, for the sake of your marriage and your future home, find something to about this" He advised patting his back then he slowly walked backwards, "Drive safely" He chipped in entering into the house.

What do you guys think about this update?

What word can we use to describe this Bella again?🤦🏼

If i may ask, if you're in Gbada's shoe? what will you do? Trash Bella in front of everyone or walk away quietly?
