Kashala POV
"I am so sorry that I am late," Kapinga said as she finally joined the rest of us. She looked heavily out of breathe probably from rushing to meet us here.
"Girl you are a whole 30 minutes late!" Mado said. We were currently all sitting at the river bank. The sun was starting to set so it was no longer blazing hot but rather very cool. Mishka, Amanda and Kalambyi were already in the water. Japhet, Mado and I were sitting in the shade as we chose to not go into the water yet.
"I am so sorry, I forgot that we were swimming today so I had to go back and change into a costume," Kapinga said. She was currently wearing a huge t-shirt. However, the t-shirt went all the way down and covered her knees. It was interesting how the fact that this t-shirt was very conservative and yet seeing Kapinga in it made it seem like a very sexy outfit still.
"You mean to say that it took you an hour to put on a bathing costume?" Mado asked very sceptical. I had to admit that she was right though. All of the girls finished classes at 3pm today. Hence, why we chose to meet here at 4pm but Kapinga only showed up at 5pm. Did she really have no idea how torturous the past few days have been for me?
"I may have accidentally taken a nap," Kapinga admitted finally. "In my defence I have not had a good night's rest in days," Kapinga added.
This whole week Kapinga was busy. She had a lot of practicals and assignments to do. So, like the good boyfriend I hope to become soon, I gave her space to work in peace. The only thing that kept me sane throughout all those weeks is the fact that we were all meeting up today and I could see her. And she has the audacity to rock up late looking smoking hot in a damn t-shirt! Was she seriously trying to kill me?
"So, are you guys not swimming?" Kapinga asked. She then looked to all of us waiting for a response. However, we all just looked back at her in silence. For some reason Kapinga kept looking at Mado and Japhet and not once did she look my way. Was she nervous?
"Tell me something Kapinga, are you single?" Mado asked. At this question my interest peaked. Was Kapinga going to tell them about us and make me the happiest person ever?
But instead of answering the question, Kapinga sifted her gaze to the water where the others who were swimming, were now coming towards us. "They are not done swimming are they?" She asked avoiding Mado's question altogether.
"Kapinga, you actually came," Kalambayi said as soon as he reached us. Amanda then came and placed her arm around Kalambayi's back and snuggled up against him and said, "Babe I'm cold." Amanda then noticed that Kapinga was present and waved at her, "You are sooo late missy," she said.
"So, Kapinga are you single or what?" Mado asked once again. Once everyone settled and sat down in the shade. Of all of Kapinga's friends, Mado was the one I liked the least but right now, she was slowly becoming my favourite. For the first time since I kissed her, Kapinga finally looked at me. As soon as our eyes met, she looked away again as if my gaze burned her.
"There is someone isn't there?" Amanda asked eagerly. She then got up from laying in Kalambyi's lap and sat up to look at Kapinga. Now, despite Kapinga's tempting dark skin, I had quickly come to pick up when she blushed. And right now, Kapinga was blushing heavily. This somehow made me feel rather happy. She was going to admit it to them. We would officially become a couple.
"No, I do not," Kapinga replied automatically crushing all the happiness that was swelling within me.
"Okay that is great then. Because I was told that you and Kashala here were getting rather close. But now that I know there is nothing going on between you two, then Kashala how do you feel about jumping into the water with me?" Mado asked.
I was too deep in disappointment to realise that Mado had asked me a question. But before I could even respond to her question, Kapinga replied, "He has a girl back home."
If I did not know any better that was Kapinga's way of trying to keep Mado from me. Now, I did not find Mado interesting at all. She had the body that screamed temptation. But I was already in love with someone else. Someone who I was very mad at right now.
So, I got up pulled off my shirt swiftly. Then glancing at Kapinga one last time and seeing the shock in her face, I walked to where Mado was and took her hand and pulled her up. She then quickly opened the straps of her dress as if understanding me. I then turned around to face Kapinga once more and said, "Well, it seems this village has way more beautiful women here. I mean who can resist this beauty?" I said looking at Mado. Then I put out a hand for Mado which she eagerly took and together we went to the water leaving behind a very shocked Kapinga.
