Trigger Happy
I swear it's been a month since I've seen a flag at full staff.
I can't describe the pity that ricochets through my heart,
To see that multitude of angelic stars,
The sentinels of heaven,
Doomed to stare upon the murderous wretches,
That are us human beings.
They all droop in unison,
Every shining alabaster star,
Billowing where the breeze doesn't blow.
Bowing their celestial heads,
In ceaseless shame of their creation,
Lending us an infinity to mend our shattered souls,
But I know we've cut too deep to fill,
These never-ending holes.
For what is the use of a trigger guard,
If your jittering hands can't help but squeeze?
What's the use of this senseless slaughter,
If the blood spilled only bring us closer and closer,
To the very chaos we've fought decades to suppress?
