#3: Jungkook
Hottie at the Car Wash
×××××××
"God, I can't believe he convinced me to do this."
Adi sits in the driver side of her dad's SUV, parked in what seems like a neverending line at the automatic carwash.
Out of all days to come, Saturday has to be the worst. It's the weekend. More people are off from work, which, unfortunate for her, Adi isn't.
Being employed by her father can have it's perks, but it also has it's cons. She's not likely to get fired for messing up, even though sometimes, Adi really wishes she did. Like now for instance. Instead of sleeping her morning away in the comfort of her bed, she's here getting the company vehicle washed.
It gets done every week. Nothing new, but Adi usually isn't the one responsible for it. Her father is. Well, that is, except for today.
It's her parents' anniversary, and they've taken the whole day off for themselves, leaving Adi to wash the SUV for the first time ever on her own.
She shakes the thoughts, and annoyance, from her mind as she reaches the touch screen before the car wash.
There are so many options.
Adi's grateful that she doesn't have to check them all off as at the bottom is the "Deluxe." At least, that's what she assumes. If she doesn't get the right one, she'll blame it on her parents as they didn't explain it to her before they left this morning.
After the payment, she pulls the SUV forward and waits her turn in line.
During that time, Adi watches various vehicles through the tall glass windows on the side of the small building to see just how the contraption works.
It's actually kind of fascinating. She's not sure how to describe what she's seeing, but that it all reminds her of super large cleaning supplies. It makes her wonder what it'll be like when she goes through it herself.
Quite lost in awe, Adi jerks in her seat when there's a sudden knock on her water-spotted window. She rips her gaze away from the car wash to meet beady eyes that belong to the most enthralling guy she's ever seen. Dark hair sweeps across one side of his face, tussled by the wind, but somehow, it only enhances his handsome features.
Her dad never told her there would be an angel standing outside the car wash with a cloth in his hand. All she can do is gawk at him until one side of his mouth tugs into a smirk.
He purposely licks his lips and motions with a hand for her to roll the window down. It takes Adi a hot minute to do what he wants, but she's glad she listens. Because the second the window cracks open, the guy's cologne wafts inside. It's slightly masked by the stench of all the cleaners and soaps up ahead, but the scent is unmistakable.
He smells like citrus, sweet and tangy.
The guy raises his hand with the cloth and pushes it in her direction. "First time?"
Adi blinks up at him. "Huh?"
"Is it your first time at BlueShark?" His lopsided grin becomes an amused smile at her stunned reaction.
"Oh, um, yeah."
The guy waves the cloth in front of her face. "Okay, well, before you drive forward, you'll need this."
Adi glimpses at his hand, eyebrows furrowed. "What for?"
Jungkook laughs softly. It's airy and deep, and it sounds absolutely wonderful.
"You'll need it to dry off your vehicle completely. The car wash does most of the hard work, but when it dries, it leaves water marks, so you'll pull into the lot right there," Jungkook points to the other side of the SUV, "and park to completely dry your car off. There's also vaccums and trash bins to clean out the inside."
Adi follows his finger to where other drivers are doing exactly what he says.
"Got it, thanks." She turns her head and smiles up at him gratefully.
"My pleasure." Instead of taking a step back, he leans in just a little bit more. It's enough to suck the air out of Adi's lungs. "If you need any help, just ask for Jungkook."
She gulps, wordlessly nodding her head.
"Alright, you can go ahead and move forward." He pulls away and taps the door on the driver's side.
Adi looks away from him and tries to focus on what's ahead of her. It's a bit difficult, but she's able to follow another worker's guidance as they gesture what she's supposed to do.
She drives and stops where told and places the SUV in nuetral. All the while she can't seem to get the guy, Jungkook, out of her head.
She's not clueless. She knows what nice looks like in all it's forms. There's the kind that's forced, some that are genuine, and then there's the ones that borderline flirting.
Jungkook was in category number three.
Whether he actually meant it or was doing it just cause he could, Adi doesn't know, but she's curious to find out.
She gets distracted fully once her car begins to move on its own, being pulled into the automatic carwash by two conveyor belts.
Soap is sprayed on the windshield, and suddenly, she's getting hit from all sides by thinly stretched sponges. It rocks the car slightly. The noise they make as they whip the dirt away is loud but not overwhelming. Strangely, it's a bit calming. The constant rhythm, the beat. It all sounds like the bare bones of a song in the making.
A minute later, the sponges are switched out for strips of towels. They aren't nearly as agressive. They dry off the car in slow, fluid movements. The action is gentle. Adi can see why they don't dry the car off completely, which brings her thoughts back to the doe-eyed boy who gave her the cloth so she could finish the job herself.
The wash lasts all of 5 minutes before she's put the SUV back in drive, pulling out of the contraption and to the parking lot Jungkook had been referring to. It's mostly empty now that a handful of the other customers have left, so she purposefully takes a spot closest to where she thinks Jungkook will be.
The odds of him actually coming to help don't seem plausible as the line Adi had been in is much longer now. Still, the chances would've been far more slim had she parked anywhere else.
She gets out of the vehicle and gives the newly washed black exterior a good, hard look.
She's not going to be able to dry everything off with the small cloth given to her. She'll be lucky if she can completely do the hood and the front doors. At the least, she'll need 3 rags.
Weighing her options, Adi decides to dry off the parts of the SUV that are more visible, starting with the windows.
She's almost done finishing up at the back when orange flashes in her peripheral. It's another cloth. She immediately looks up, finding a hand wrapped around it. Her eyes travel further and meet the beady eyes she saw from earlier.
Adi freezes in her spot.
Jungkook smiles in response. "Mind if I lend a hand?"
The slight shake of her head is enough for him to proceed cleaning the hood of the SUV. When he's a good distance away, Adi sucks in a breath.
She tries to distract herself from how he's helping her even though she hadn't asked.
Yeah, he was definitely flirting with her before.
Adi has gone over the same spot twice now on the back bumper, lost in thought. She almost does it for a third time until Jungkook comes back into view.
He messes with his lip ring on one side of his mouth, trying to keep the smile from widening.
"You all right?" He asks.
Adi jerks back for a second time and loses her footing. She would've fallen entirely had Jungkook not used his free hand to wrap around the wrist closest to him and steadily keep her in place.
"Woah, careful." Jungkook brings her hand with the cloth back to the bumper. His fingers remains clasped around her arm.
Glancing at his hold on her, Adi can feel her cheeks warm. He's not letting go. She clears her throat, lightly tugging her wrist away from his touch.
Jungkook releases her, but the adoring smile, though smaller, has not left his face.
"I think you got it," he says when Adi starts wiping away at the same spot again.
She fidgets before pulling her hand back. "Oh, uh, yeah. I know."
Looking everywhere but at Jungkook, Adi stands up and tucks the loose strands of her hair behind her ears.
"Thank youuuuu," her voice trails off as she shamelessly lifts her gaze upwards, admiring Jungkook's physique in his dark cargo pants and fitted polo. The BlueShark logo is embroidered on one side.
Adi is sure at this point that her cheeks must look like they're on fire, because now that she's getting a better look, he's handsome. And he must know it, because as her gaze finally meets his, a corner of his lips stretches upward.
Jungkook continues to play with his lip ring, and Adi finds the action undeniably hot.
He stops for a moment. "You're welcome."
Stuffing the cloth he had used into his back pocket, he crosses his arms over his chest. His biceps strain against the hem of the sleeves.
Adi tries not to look, but the temptation is too much as her eyes eventually trace the outline of his muscles.
"You know I never caught your name." Jungkook sounds distant, but the reality is Adi's attention is elsewhere.
He knows what he's doing, and like a month to a flame, she's attracted to his stance. The folded arms, the defined biceps.
It isn't until she hears him laugh again. He does so briefly, but it's enough to bring Adi back to earth. Sort of. Everything about Jungkook is starting to seem otherworldly.
It takes a second for her flick her gaze back up to his. "Huh?"
"What's your name?"
She nervously licks her lips, as she does Jungkook's eyes settle lower. "Oh, um, it's Adi."
"Adi," he says her name, testing how it feels when it rolls off his tongue. It does smoothly, and god, does it sound so different when he says it.
"If you ever need another car wash," Jungkook adds, pulling a small, thin card out from his pocket. "You can just call this number."
He looks around shortly, as if not to get caught handing Adi business information that's not about BlueShark. Because, obviously being an employee means to only promote their company and not anyone else's.
Adi glimpses at the card. It's white with gold detailings of a car at one bottom corner, and at the center, in bolded font reads, "Golden Jeon, Car Services and Wash."
Mostly definitely not BlueShark. There's not a hint of blue anywhere on it.
But Adi can't seem to care. This boy. No. Man is giving her something, and even if it's the only thing she'll ever get from him, she's not going to say no. She takes the card when given and hides it in the back pocket of her jeans.
"I can guarantee that we'll do a much better job at cleaning your vehicle." Jungkook haughtily takes a step forward. "And if not, we'll give you a refund."
"We?" Adi questions.
If he's part of Golden Jeon, why is working at BlueShark?
"Yeah, I don't do this often, because I could get fired but," Jungkook pauses, lowering his voice as he moves even closer, "I think you'd find our services more worthwhile. We don't make customers dry off their own car."
Adi has to admit that does sound better, but it's hard to form any kind of response with Jungkook literally just a foot away.
He peers down at her with a hopeful glint, and again, starts messing with his piercing. It must be a habit of his. One that Adi hopes he never breaks.
"Okay," she whispers back.
Jungkook smiles once more. "Great, I look forward to hearing from you."
Adi nods in reply because she doesn't know what else to do.
He opens his mouth to say something else but doesn't get a chance.
"Jungkook, what are you doing?" Whoever speaks is not too happy with him right now. "Stop flirting with the customers, and get back to work."
Jungkook immediately pulls away. "Yes, ma'am."
He starts moving, taking continuous steps back while still holding eye contact with her.
The further away he is the more Adi feels like she's able to breathe properly, and yet, she misses how suffocating his presence is.
So, she doesn't look away either.
Just as he's turning around, heading back to the place she first saw him outside the small building with tall, glass windows, he winks at her.
Adi is definitely going to convince her dad to try out this new car wash, especially if she gets to see more of the guy that steals the air right out from under her.
