A beautiful girl is sat on the sandy banks of a river. Her lotus like smooth feet were being washed by the cool flowing waters. The moon light which reflected from the surface, shone on her angelic face. The cool breeze ruffled the fringes on her forehead. She stared at the full moon with slight tears in her brown eyes.

“So you are here!”

She turned towards the source of that captivating and mesmerising tone. Her eyes widened as she saw the boy standing there. Her eyes desperately dived in and swam in his deep dark eyes, like fish in an ocean. He approached her slowly, sitting beside her with his feet too into the waters. The waters flowed from his feet onto hers, making her feel a strange tingling sensation run through her body, which she never felt before. All the while, they never broke the eye contact. He finally spoke, breaking her trance.

“Radha!”

“Hmm…” She hummed like she has just drunk the sweetest and most intoxicating nectar.

“Why are you here?”

She came back to this world after hearing his question. She sighed and stared at his reflection in the water, not wanting to take her eyes off him, but too hesitant to stare at him openly. “I never felt like I belonged to this world.”

“Then do you belong there?” He pointed at the river and her eyes widened yet again!

His finger looked like it pointed towards the chest of his reflection in the waters. She stared at him in disbelief, a blush creeping onto her cute face.

“Well you were staring at it …” He spoke hesitantly and her cheeks took up a deeper shade of red.

“I mean the waters … you were staring at the river all the while!” He explained and she bent her head in embarrassment and glanced back at their reflections.

“Well it is true that you belong there.” He spoke firmly, and once again, butterflies flutter in her abdomen.

“What do you mean?” She questioned.

“All the time, you seem to be lost in some deep thoughts. Like you were never meant to be here, among all these people. Like you came here in search of something very important for you and are searching desperately for it.”

She nodded slowly because that was exactly how she behaved. She always felt like a stranger to the world. She never took interest in the normal daily activities. She never went out and played with the girls of her age. She never involved herself in all their chatter. Her mother had always scolded her for being absentminded. “What do you keep thinking all the time?” Her mother used to ask with frustration all the time. But she never had an answer. She never understood why people always used to consider her insane. But she never felt anger on them. She never cared actually. All that mattered to her, was the figure of that boy, which constantly haunted her mind.

“See! Again! Lost in your thoughts.” She looked at him, who was staring at her.

“Who is that?”

“Whom are you talking about?” She was confused.

“That person in your mind.” He smiled.

She gaped. “How do you know that I am thinking about him?”

“Oh! So, it is a ‘him’ then. Interesting …” He smirked, leaning forwards. She had an immediate urge to face-palm herself.

“It’s fine. It is common to think about your future husband.” He flashed a smile again.

“No … it is nothing like that. I … I … don’t even know who that person is. I only see him in my dreams every day. He sits under a tree, by the banks of the river, plays flute … very melodious …, dark complexion …” Her eyes were closed, like she was recalling her dream; rather like she was seeing it again.

“Is that why you are sitting here, waiting for him?” Her eyes fluttered open and he suppressed his chuckle.

She was now angry. She realised that he was constantly teasing her. But strange! She never got angry on anyone before. Why now? Why this annoying boy? What is he doing to her? Why is she feeling different today? She was disturbed in her mind; for the first time in her life, but it felt good.
