The Basketball Game
AN: Hey guys , thank you so much for reading!!! I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while I was trying to "study". I also have been watching Pretty Little Liars and i just dont know. Anyways this chapter is longer than the others as well. If you have any questions about the book or anything you want to say don't be afraid to tell me.
Jennifer's POV:
Today was Saturday and it's been a week since the incident with Arielle at the restaurant. Of course she hasn't been speaking to me and has been avoiding me ever since. There was an annual breast cancer basketball game at the school today. My cousin wanted to me to go see her cheerlead, I decided to bring my friend Olivia with me.
"Is this game even going to be interesting?" Olivia asked annoyed.
"I don't know I would hope so. I really don't know how good this school is at basketball." I said to her. Olivia and I walked into the gymnasium and each payed $10 to get in. The bleachers were filled with a whole bunch of people containing, students too, wearing pink. I was greeted a lot by my students as Olivia and I were finding seats. I looked out and saw that we were playing Lincoln high-school.
I looked out into the crowd and saw that the boys had on pink uniforms. They looked older so I guessed that they were on varsity. They actually didn't look quite bad.
"Oh some of they boys are cute." Olivia said checking out the boys on the varsity team.
"Yea they're okay." I said uninterested.
The game started. It dragged on with me not being into it as much as Olivia. The only reason why I brought her was because she loves basketball with a passion.
The game finally ended. Our time won, but just barely. The score was 67-64. The boys packed their stuff and got off the court, some went into the bleachers to watch the other games and some left. It was 5 minutes until the other game. I didn't know that the girl's had a basketball team until some girls in pink jerseys came out of the girls locker-room.
I don't when it happened but from when the boys game ended to 2 minutes until the girls game started the bleachers somehow got even more crowded. A girl came into the gym and for some reason all eyes were on her. I don't think she was a student because I've never seen her before. While walking up the bleachers she was greeted by a whole bunch of students. Then to my luck, she decided to sit in the open seat right next to me. She smiled at me and then sat down.
Wow she's beautiful. I thought to myself.
The game started and the girl frantically looked onto the court as if she was trying to find somebody. I guess she didn't find who she was looking for because she mumbled a "shit" to herself. I looked at her and she happen to look at me at the same time.
She gave me an apologetic smile and said "Sorry. I've been told I kind of had the mouth of a sailor." She joked.
I laughed a little a said "No problem. May I ask if you were looking for somebody?"
"Um...yea I was trying to find my younger sister, but of course she's late like always." She said. For some reason this girl looked oddly familiar.
"What's your name?" I asked her.
She looked like she was contemplating telling me for a minute and then said "Adrianna. What's your name?"
"Jennifer." I told her
Adrianna and I made small talk while somewhat watching the game. The girls on Lincoln's team were winning by 5. The Riverside coach called a full timeout which was 5 minutes apparently. I looked over to Olivia and saw that she was talking to some guy. Typical.
All of a sudden the whole gym got quiet. And then they started chanting "MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP!"
Adrianna then said "I guess my sister is here." She said shyly. I looked out to see who came in and it was no other than her.
Arielle.
She had her long black hair in a high ponytail with a pink nike headband on. She was wearing a blue warm-up jacket. On the back it said #2 and the word "Captain" on it. She jogged over to her team's beach and apparently got scolded by her coach. She took off her warm-up jacket to reveal her wearing the pink uniform with a pink compression shirt underneath. She had on a pink arm-sleeve on her left arm and a bracelet on her right wrist. She also had on pink kneepads.
She turned and smiled at the crowd and they all roared and cheered because of it. When she turned back around I saw that her jersey had the #2 on it and said Agostinelli on top of it.
Wait does that mean she's the captain. So that means that Arielle is Adrianna's sister?
"So your sister is Arielle?" I asked her.
"You know her?" She asked sounded surprised. "Wait nevermind, of course you know Arielle, who doesn't know her?" She said.
Maybe that's the reason why I thought that she looked familiar since her sister is Arielle.
No...that's not it she reminds me of someone I just can't remember who.
The timeout ended and the coach put Arielle in the game. I turned to Adrianna and asked her "Arielle plays basketball? I didn't peg her as the type who plays sports."
She laughed at that and said "Yea I know people are always so shocked by it. It's amazing how good she is at basketball, yet she always says that she's not trying, that it's just for fun."
The way Adrianna talked about Arielle was in somewhat adoration. I looked back at the game and saw that we were now winning 45-39. Arielle was defending a girl and but got past Arielle going into the paint and got fouled causing her to fall on the floor. Everyone else walked away from the girl to get into their free throw position but Arielle went over to her and talked to her for a little but before sticking an arm out, which the girl gladly took and helped her up.
Arielle then said something to the girl leading to her hitting Arielle on the arm playfully. A jealous feeling welled up inside of me from seeing this gesture and I realized that I probably hate the girl now.
The half time show started and I watched my cousin in her little pink cheerleading uniform, smiling as always.
The game carried on with Arielle and the girl exchanging flirty glances with each other. I started to hate this girl more and more.
Finally the game was over and our team blew the other out of the water. The final score was 78-57.
Arielle's POV:
Finally this game was over. I was exhausted. While we were telling each other "Good game" I finally got up to Charlotte and she said "Come over to my bench, okay?"
"I don't know if that's a good idea. Your teammates are looking at me like they want to kill me." I joked.
"Just come over stop being such a coward." She said to me pushing me lightly.
Charlotte has been touchy-feely with me a lot. I honestly can't tell if she's flirting with me or not.
She's probably not flirting with me.
I said to myself walking away from her and to my bench. I got my stuff and checked my phone. I had a multiple texts from my sister they said
Adrianna: Hey sis Im at ur game right now. And guess what? UR NOT HERE HURRY UP!!!😡😤
-2 hours ago
Adrianna: Great game sis❤️ How many points did u have? Also i was wondering if u would like me to stay 4 the rest of the game
-3 minutes ago
I texted her back.
Me: I had 24 and idk you could stay for the rest of the games if you want i may or may not leave so
I looked up from my phone and looked around for her in the bleachers and I found her but of course she had to be sitting next to Jennifer.
I hope they didn't speak to each other. That would be really awkward.
I turned my gaze to Jennifer and saw that she was looking at me.
Maybe I could give her a taste of her own medicine. I thought to myself.
I walked over to Charlotte's bench. I tapped her on the shoulder and she jumped slightly not expecting it. I then said "I've come because I have been called."
"Ya...I know." Charlotte said nervously.
"Are you okay?" I asked concerned.
"Ya I am. I was just wondering if I could get your number..." she trailed off.
I stayed silent so she quickly said "To talk about basketball. I mean unless you don't want to talk about basketball then thats okay too. We can talk about anything you want to talk about it's fi- "
"Charlotte." I said cutting her off. "It's fine I wasn't gonna say no to you." She pulled out her phone and gave it to me and I put my number in and then handed her phone back to her "Here so we can talk about basketball or whatever you want to talk about." I said mockingly.
"Shut up." She said chuckling and pushed my shoulder slightly. I looked in Jennifer's direction and saw that she was looking at me and Charlotte and had an angry look on her face.
"Charlotte!" One of her teammates called. She turned around to the girl and then turned back to me.
"Sorry I have to go now." She said.
"Sure. I gave you my number so don't forget to use it." I told her.
She laughed slightly but then did something that I never thought that she would do. She leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. I looked at her shocked. She just blushed at me and said "Bye Arielle." and turned around and left. I put my hand up to the cheek she kissed and looked back into the crowd only to find an infuriated Jennifer. I walked out of the gym and went into a secluded hallway. I sighed and then leaned against the wall.
That wasn't a part of the plan. I thought to myself and then sighed again.
"Did you have fun with your little basketball buddy." I heard a voice say. I looked up and it was none other than Jennifer. I just looked at her.
"Well did you?" She said angrily.
"And if I did?" I said just as angry.
Why did she care if I liked talking to Charlotte or not. It was none of her business. She has her girlfriend so she should be bothering her, not me.
"Don't you have a girlfriend to be with?" I hissed at her. "Or did you bring another girl here so you could cheat on her?"
A looked of hurt flashed on Jennifer's face before it turned soft. "Arielle...it's not like that." She said softly.
"Oh so you don't cheat on your girlfriend with other girls?" I asked frustratedly.
"No. You were the only one!" She yelled out. "You were the only one..." she said in a softer tone. She continued "you were the only girl that I've ever cheated on Emily with and I don't know why it was you out all people that I decided to cheat on her with and I don't know why it's you that making me feel this way and ugh." She said frustrated.
"This is all your fault." She said looking at me angrily.
This? My fault? She most have lost her fucking mind.
I got off of the wall and said "None of this is my fault! This is all your fa-" I was cut off with a pair of lips pressing themselves against mines. I was too shocked to move my lips at first but then I couldn't resist and started. She tasted the same as she did the first time we kissed, just like vanilla but without the beer taste that it had before. She then parted my lips with her tongue and slid it in. I moaned at this and then she put her hands in my hair.
Im starting to think that she has a thing for my hair.
My hands then went to her waist and gripped them tightly. I then heard footsteps getting closer to where we were and pulled away from her. We were silent for a while until I looked at her and blushed saying "We should start acting like a normal teacher and student."
She looked pained but said "Yea. You're right, we'll start now."
It kind of hurt me that she didn't even try to deny the idea but she full on accepted it. I turned my back on her and walked out of the building, leaving her standing there.
My mood for the rest of the day was one of the worst ones I had in a while, but then of course, only Jennifer Murphy can get me into the crappiest of moods in a matter of seconds.
