Ch. 37: Confrontation/Agreement

Nearly a week goes by. You and William are on your way to the preschool to pick Margaret up. This time... William will be facing his eldest daughter. Vanessa. She is not only Margaret's preschool teacher, but her half-sister. You intentionally enrolled Margaret there because of it. You wanted them to be close, even before realizing they're siblings.

You're in the passenger's seat. William's driving. Your radio is playing Liar by Korn. You sigh and you say, "I just hope this goes just a tad bit better than I'm imagining. I just... I don't want to see you two arguing around Margaret."

He says, "I'll have her stay in the room with the other kids. Just while I face Vanessa again after twenty-seven years." You say, "Okay. I wish you a good luck, baby. This is your eldest daughter." He says, "It'll take a little bit to convince her to trust me, again. But I'm also going to remind her that we'll both do this for Margaret's sake." You say, "Thank you." He smiles and nods. He continues driving down the road.

A moment later, Margaret is at school. Preschool's about to let out. All the parents arrive, but Sophie's aunt is the one who picks her up instead of her own parents. Vanessa got news from Sophie's maternal aunt that her sister, Sophie's mom and her dad are horrible people who dumped Sophie off on her front porch as an infant and never came back for her.

Sophie's aunt Cecelia happily took her in and raised her. So... Sophie never knew her mom and dad. Probably for the best. And personally, Vanessa could NOT stand horrible parents. She knew from previous experience with her father stabbing her. She just never told the children that. She was lucky to make it out alive. This all happened the year YOU were born.

Vanessa is saying goodbye to the kids for the day. Margaret especially. It's as if Margaret had grown on her. Margaret is facing her and saying, "Will I be back again, Miss. Nessa?" Vanessa says, "Not tomorrow, honey. Tomorrow's Saturday. Saturday and Sunday, you stay out of school."

Margaret says, "Awe. But I like you, Miss. Nessa." Vanessa smiles and says, "I love your company too, Margaret. But don't worry, sweetie. You'll see me again, Monday." Margaret smiles and says, "Yay!" Vanessa smiles and puts her hand on Margaret's face. She says, "I somehow feel the closest to you of all the kids, Margaret Afton. I'm not sure why... But you're one special little girl." Margaret smiles and giggles.

You suddenly come into the door and you knock. You smile and you say, "Hello!" Vanessa looks over to see you. She smiles and she tells Margaret, "And there's your mommy, now." Margaret sees you and she smiles and runs to you saying, "Mommy!" You grin and you duck down saying, "Hey, peanut. Come here.~"

She gets to you and you hug her close. She has her arms around you. You get up and you pick her up. You hold her close and you say, "Were you good for Miss. Nessa today, baby?~" She smiles and nods. Vanessa approaches you and she says, "She was very good, Mrs. Afton." You say, "That's good. Um... Vanessa. Can I talk to you?" She says, "Sure. What is it?"

You set Margaret down and you tell her, "Go play with the dolls, peanut." She says, "Okay, mommy." She walks to the toys. You look at Vanessa and you say, "Vanessa... Step out of the room with me. There's something you need to know." She says, "Okay. What is it?"

You say, "Vanessa. I know exactly who you are. There's a reason I've enrolled my daughter in this particular preschool. If you're wondering who Margaret's daddy is... he's here right now. Trust me. You need to know this. I actually managed to bring somebody back from the dead a few years back. My now husband."

She says, "Back from the dead? How?" You say, "Necromancing. Just come with me. He's right outside in the hallway." She sighs and says, "Okay." She looks back at Margaret who's happily playing with toys. She faces you and you both head out of the room.

You look over to see William. He's standing behind Vanessa. About seven feet away. You sigh and you say, "Here we go." Vanessa says, "For what? (Y/N), what's going on?" She suddenly hears a deeper voice behind her saying, "Vanessa."

Vanessa turns around and you back away a bit. Her eyes widen at the person standing before her. A middle-aged man that's very similar to her own... father. Then it dawns on her. It is him. William Afton.

She yells, "YOU!!" He slowly approaches her and he says, "Long time, no see." She says, "How the hell are you alive?!" She looks away saying, "Oh right. Necromancing." She looks at her dad. He says, "Vanessa... Let me talk to you." She has that distrusting look on her face and she says, "You better not try anything stupid, dad. For what you did to me, I will NEVER forgive you!" You're seeing this for yourself.

William says, "You can hate me all you want, Vanessa. But there are things I need to say to you." She looks at him. He looks at her and he says, "I did you wrong. I did. I stabbed you years back. My own daughter. But you've left me with no choice back then. You've turned on me." She says, "Because you were sick, dad!"

He says, "But listen to what I have to say to you." She says, "Fine. What?" He says, "My wife over there has been telling me quite a bit of things. How close you've been with Margaret." Vanessa says, "Wait. Dad, what are you telling me?" He looks at her and he says, "Vanessa... Margaret's your little sister. She's my daughter, too. (Y/N)'s my wife." Vanessa's eyes widen a bit and she says, "What?"

She looks at you and you nod saying, "He's not lying. We can even run a DNA test on both you and Margaret to prove it. I'm the one who brought your dad back. We fell in love. I know... I'm a bit younger. Younger than you, even. But I've been happy with him. And yes... Margaret's your sister. You have the same father. That's why I've enrolled her in this particular school. For you two to be close. And I see that's already happened. I knew you were teaching here."

William looks at Vanessa and he says, "Distrust me all you want, Vanessa... but don't disappoint Margaret... Not her. All I'm asking is that you and I just get along for her sake. At least on her watch."

She says, "Fine. But don't think I WILL ever trust you again. Ever. I'm doing this for her." He smiles. You sigh and you smile. You look away and you whisper to yourself, "This went a lot smoother than I thought."

You say, "Be right out." You walk into the classroom Vanessa teaches in and you get Margaret. You say, "Margaret." She looks at you saying, "Yeah, mommy?" You say, "Come on out. Daddy needs to tell you something about Miss. Nessa." She gets up and walks to you. You lead her out of the room. William and Vanessa see her. Vanessa sighs and whispers, "I'll do this for you, Margaret."

Margaret sees William and she smiles and says, "Daddy!" He grins and he ducks down to her height saying, "Hey, baby. There you are. Come here.~" She runs to him and he picks her up. He stands up and holds her close. She hugs her arms around him and she says, "Miss you, daddy." He says, "There's my baby girl.~" He kisses her on the cheek.

Vanessa is surprised to see this side of her father after such a long time. Especially after the last time she confronted him at the pizzeria years ago. The loving father he's supposed to be and not the psychotic mad man scolding his own kid for turning against him and then stabbing them afterwards like he did with her. She wonders though... Was he still a psychopath like before?

Margaret pulls away and she looks at Vanessa. She points over and says, "Miss. Nessa." William says, "About that, baby." Margaret looks at him. He looks at her and she says, "Want to know something about... Miss. Nessa? Why mommy decided to put you in this school?" She says, "Why, daddy?" He says, "Miss. Nessa... is your older sister."

Margaret says, "She is?" He nods and says, "Yeah, baby. She is. She's my little girl, too." She says, "But she's a grownup." You smile a bit as she says that. Vanessa sighs and smiles. William says, "You're right. She is. But she is your sister." William looks at Vanessa. Margaret also looks over at her.

Margaret smiles and holds her arms out towards Vanessa saying, "Sissy." Vanessa smiles and William hands her over to her. Vanessa takes her. They look at each other and Vanessa says, "Hey, little sister." Margaret says, "Are you really my big sister?" Vanessa says, "Yes I am, honey. William's my dad, too."

You walk to William and you both look over at the two sisters bonding. You say, "Vanessa." She looks over at you and says, "Yes, (Y/N)?" You say, "I'll message you our address. You can come over anytime you'd like. Watch Margaret if you'd like. The more time she spends with you other than here in school, the better. You are her sister, after all."

Vanessa says, "I'd like that. I'll be happy to watch her. Not only am I her teacher, but I'm her sister." You say, "I'll introduce my own family to you, sometime too." She says, "I would also like that." You smile. Vanessa looks at Margaret and she says, "How about it, honey? I come to your place and spend some time with you."

Margaret smiles and nods. She hugs Vanessa saying, "Sissy." Even William at this point can't help but feel the joy at watching his two daughters bond like this. After all of this, you say your goodbyes to Vanessa and you, William and Margaret head out of the preschool.
