#4.5 Teaser
The deck of cards sits quietly between me and Byun Baekhyun. We're currently lounged crossed-legged on his bedroom floor and the only things joining us are some throw pillows and unopened bottles of soju. Rain is trying to play push-and-tackle with Peanut by the foot of the bed but the latter doesn't seem to care.
It's another peaceful weekend. And whenever my fiancé and I hang out, we always tend to end up doing things we never expected to do. Just like now. Testing a Drink or Dare card game Kim Jongin decided to include in his newly bought bar was definitely not in our plans. I'd rather be making out with my fiancé right now. But apparently, being a good friend equals to doing something for them once in a while.
"So it's a bar with card games on the table?" Baekhyun raised a brow at me as he tilted his head curiously. "It's cute, babe. But won't the cards get lost or something?"
"There will be card games and board games," I corrected. "But don't worry. Jongin himself created this game and got it reprinted hundreds of times. It even got different versions."
"Oh?" My fiancé threw the deck a worried glance. "Is that why there's a For Couples written below the title here?" He touched the back of the card. Byun Baekhyun's face definitely looks like he has zero confidence that whatever game Kim Jongin invented would end up nicely. And the kissing silhouette of a couple printed at the back of every card doesn't really make the purpose of this game more subtle.
I can't help but laugh a little at his skepticism. "Yeah," I winked at him. "We got the Couples version of the game."
Baekhyun bit on his lip with a worrisome expression before pulling a throw pillow and hugging it against his chest. I think he's more worried about getting drunk than playing the game itself. We both know he's a lightweight. But unlike me, a drunk Byun Baekhyun isn't exactly problematic. He just passes out immediately.
"So..." Hyun peered at me through his lashes. "How does this game work?"
I cocked my head to one side, recalling what Jongin said the instruction was. "Uh..." I frowned, thinking, but soon gave up and just took my phone to read Jongin's most recent text. "It's simple. There are different dares written on every card. We take turns drawing one. If I can't do or finish the dare, I drink one full shot. But if I can, you drink two."
"What?" Baekhyun's eyes widened a little. "This is so unfair! You're almost never drunk."
I shrugged and regarded his expression for a moment. "Well, if it makes you feel any better," I took one soju bottle and opened it. "I can drink a full bottle before we start. Just so you can worry less about 'losing'." Though there's no win-or-lose thing in this game anyway.
For a moment, Baekhyun looked like I just gave him a bag full of candy. His eyebrows shoot up and his lips gaped in surprise. But the blissful expression immediately melted away. "That'll be more unfair," he pouts. "Fine! I'll just pray you lose." Baek squeezed his eyes shut and started muttering things I do not understand, making me chuckle. Why is he so cute?
"Okay," I grinned. "I'll start then."
When Baekhyun nodded, I slowly drew a card and read the dare.
Wax your legs. Don't try to contain the pain.
"HELL NO!" I exclaimed and Baekhyun took the card from me with a large grin. "I'm never gonna do that sht." I ran a protective hand over my leg hairs. They're short but they're there and I love them, okay?
Baekhyun is laughing loudly as he reads the dare. "Oh, okay, okay, I didn't know you're that protective of them," he chuckles. "Now you drink, then, Park Chan." He filled one shot glass with soju and handed it to me. My fiancé occasionally gets his legs waxed and I really wonder how he could put up with that when my sister says waxing hurts a lot. Won't it feel like ripping your skin off? With a shiver, I ran my hands over my legs. Nope. Never gonna happen.
After watching me take the shot, Baekhyun slowly plucked a card from the deck. "Trade clothes with your partner," he grimaces. He looks himself over and noted his loose pink cotton shirt that says Cool Party in bold letters and his white shorts. "But I love this shirt!" He whines, grabbing the hem possessively. When he noticed what I'm wearing— black jogger pants and a plain white shirt— his pout even deepened. "And your clothes look so boring."
I smirked. "You gonna drink then, baby?"
"Of course!" My fiancé exclaimed. "As much as I would love to beat you, I fcking love this shirt." And without batting an eyelid, he took a drink confidently. However, Baekhyun obviously doesn't like the taste of soju at all because he made these about-to-vomit faces before calming down. "I hate it," he murmurs as he wiped his chin with the back of his hand. "I really hate it."
I want to tease him more about his hatred of alcohol but didn't. Pissing him off isn't really on the list of the things I would like to do tonight. Instead, I reached out and quickly wiped the side of his lips with my thumb. "Okay, wait up," I said before standing and walking over to a small fridge just by the side of his study table. I took a canned mango juice and immediately handed it to Baek. "Here," I sat back down. "Use it to chase off the taste or something."
Baekhyun regarded the juice with an amused laugh. "Aw," he beams. "Thanks, honey."
"You're welcome," I smiled back before returning my attention to the cards. "Okay, the next ones should be easier, I suppose," I muttered as I draw another one and read the dare with a frown. "Take off your shirt for the rest of the game." Oh, now that is easy. With a shrug, I casually took my shirt off and placed it on the floor beside me. The night isn't exactly chilly so being topless is not a bother. However, that would only mean Baekhyun has to drink double.
I gave my fiancé a playful look. "Well then—" But I paused when I noticed he isn't really meeting my eyes. "Hyun?" I followed his gaze curiously. "Why are you staring at my chest?"
It took my fiancé a moment to answer. "W-What—" Baekhyun blinked a few times. "N-No— What— What did you say?" He is suddenly blushing so bad and I had to press my lips together to keep myself from chuckling. I've been working out more often ever since my schedule got less busy, and maybe it's the reason why my fiancé is suddenly trying to avoid looking at my direction. It's not like he hasn't seen me naked multiple times before. I wonder why Byun Baekhyun gets shy over the littlest things.
Even before I could give him the instruction, Baekhyun already unthinkingly chugged two shots of alcohol and he had to hug himself as if shivering, shaking his head in disgust. "Agh," he looks like he's in pain. "My throat feels like it's on fire," Baek tried to smile despite the grimace as he drank his juice immediately after. To be perfectly honest, I feel kind of bad to be playing this game with my fiancé knowing that he's a complete lightweight, but it's not like I would let myself be drunk, too. It really isn't pretty when I get drunk, so taking care of Baekhyun's drunk self would be better for me.
My fiancé lifted another dare from the deck. "Show whole browsing history in your phone," he mutters.
"Well, that's intriguing," I chuckled. In a second, Baekhyun is already handing me his phone with a smug look on his face. I gave him a look. "I wonder what kind of things you're Googling." I said as I took the phone. My fiancé has a security code but it remained the same since college so I kind of know it already. Just four zeros. Talk about pseudo-security.
I tapped on the Safari icon and immediately looked through his history. Everything dated back from a while ago to few months before. It seems like Baekhyun doesn't really clear his browsing history.
"Found something?" Baekhyun lifted a brow.
"This is weird," I started to frown, though a smile is pinching the side of my cheek. "Why the hell are you browsing the internet for recipes?" Baekhyun chuckles so I scrolled further down through the browsing list. Most of the sites are harmless, mostly websites for artists and clothes. But then something caught my eye and I have to gasp. "AND BUTT PLUGS?!"
Byun Baekhyun laughed out loud and I have to do the same despite the surprise. I am shaking my head in amusement and disbelief and my fiancé just took glee in watching my reaction. His laugh is contagious and very much ear-welcoming, and soon enough, we're already laughing our assess off as we swoop further down to his internet secrets.
The game is far from finished and Baekhyun's history list is long.
But so is the night.
