Chapter 5
I sat on my bathroom floor, crying my eyes out from the pain. Nothing was working to make the pain go away. No painkillers, no ointment, nothing.
I checked on my phone to look at the time.
I had two hours until I get ready for school.
I struggled to get up on my feet. Sleeping on the floor for almost five hours isn't exactly the most comfortable thing in the world.
I felt a sharp pain in my arm and immediately grabbed it. This feeling was absolutely miserable.
I opened the door and peeked outside to see if anyone was out there.
"Mom! You there?" I yelled out.
No response.
I sighed. Where could she be?
I went into my room and laid down on my bed hoping to get a few hours of sleep before I had to wake up. But I don't think that was happening.
I heard a car door close outside. Being the curious person I am I checked to see who it was.
Natsu?
Why is he up so early?
He was loading paintings into his truck.
I wonder what he plans to do with those.
But right now I don't have time to think I need to get some sleep before school or I'm going to be miserable.
As I was attempting to fall asleep I caught myself smiling and thinking about him.
I probably shouldn't do that. He could have a girlfriend or something, and I'm not trying to be one of those "homewreckers."
But I couldn't help it.
He was so nice to me, he bought me dinner, and most importantly...
He called me his friend.
I smiled. The thought of having a friend made my stomach turn in knots. What do friends do? Is there like a special handbook or instruction manual?
"Ten ways to make friends."
"The survival guide to friendship."
It felt weird honestly. You know, having someone actually want to be my friend.
But, all I can do is try my best to be the best friend I can be.
The annoying sound of my alarm clock woke me up, making me want to throw it against the wall.
"Why cant the world just stop for a day so I can get some sleep?" I covered my face with the pillow.
The alarm kept going off.
"Dammit!" I smacked my hand on the clock, turning it off.
I lifted my head, revealing my horrendous bed head. All the memories flooded back into my mind, causing a migraine to invade my head. I checked my arm to see that the swelling was almost gone but the pain and bleeding was still there.
"Today already sucks." I whispered under my breath. I walked into the bathroom and did all my morning rituals.
I threw on my hoodie, making sure I put it on carefully, trying not to bother my arm and checked the clock.
I had three minutes to get to my stop.
I heard the bus honk, indicating that it was time to start running to my bus stop.
I ran and I ran until I finally reached the bus, "I'm here! I'm here!" The bus driver gave me the side eye and rolled her eyes.
Rude much?
I went to the empty seat in the front. I looked at my phone and started playing games, trying to let time pass by until we get to school.
I got off the bus and took in the morning dew air. Being on that stinky, musty bus for thirty minutes almost made me throw up. I needed another sent in my nose, quick.
I stepped through the hallways, walking to my class until I saw a poster that kinda caught my interest, "we are inviting you to the winter art show this Saturday night, hosted by Natsu Dragneel. Five dollar admission fee. Hope to see you there!"
Didn't he just get here? He just got here and is already hosting an art show.
There's no point in going, Considering my condition. I would like to be there for him but again what's the point?
I sat in my usual spot next to the window, Observing nature. Today was a sunny day, but it was still pretty cold.
I heard the door close, indicating that if you were outside that door you were late and had to go to the "special room." I heard the people who went in there were never the same again. Just the thought gave me chills. I looked at Natsu's desk to see if he was here, but he was nowhere to be found.
I am a bit disappointed, but I'm just going to keep on going like it was a normal day at school.
Before Natsu came.
I heard the same girls giggling in the back about something, "She always wears that same hoodie everyday. Doesn't she have any other clothes?"
Can they grow up and give me a break?
Last period went by smooth and before I knew it school was over. I knew my mom wasn't coming to pick me up so I didn't have anyone to pick me up.
I guess I'm walking, even though that's an hour walk.
I walked out the front door to see Natsu standing by his car looking at me with a gentle smile, "Need a ride?" He asked.
I sighed a breath of relief, "You read my mind." I walked toward his car but he stopped me.
"Why do you look so down Luce?"
"I'm just tired. Ms. Smiths lecturing can really put you to sleep, but you wouldn't know that since you weren't there."
"If you missed me that much I would have came." He teased.
"I could care less."
"Well if you really wanted to know where I was..."
"I really don't." I whispered.
"I was in the gym decorating for the art show coming up."
"Wow, your second day here and you're already hosting something big."
He scratched the back of his head, "I wouldn't really call it big..."
I chuckled, "Well whenever you stop being flustered, I'll be in the car waiting to go home."
"I'm not flustered!" He pouted.
We were driving down our street, almost home. The whole time I was gripping my arm trying to soothe the pain if I could. If I don't get this checked out soon it may get infected and who knows what will happen after that.
"Something wrong with your arm?"
I turned to him, startled by his sudden question, "no, no. Why would you ask?"
"Because, since you got in the truck you've been gripping your arm."
"Oh, I um-"
He sighed, "just know that you can talk to me, alright? If there's something up you can always call me."
"T-Thank you. I promise you'll be the first person to know."
"You can always count on me, Luce."
I smiled, "and you can always count on me."
We were almost to our house, but I couldn't help but notice how nervous he became.
"Is there something wrong?"
"No! Why would you ask that?" He jumped.
"Because your acting wierd." I raised my eyebrow.
"Weird? I'm not acting-"
"Spill it Natsu," I demanded.
He parked the car in his driveway, "Alright, alright. I didn't know how to ask you this, but will you come to the art show with me this Saturday?"
"No."
"Great! I'll pick you up at- wait... what?"
I unbuckled my seatbelt, "I said no."
"But why?"
"I'm not really into that kind of stuff."
"But maybe if you come it will-"
"I'm sorry, but I can't." I got out the car and started walking over to my house.
"Oh pretty please!" He pleaded.
"No."
"Please!"
"No!"
"Please!"
"No!"
This went on until I walked to my door.
"Come on! I know you'll have fun!"
"I said no." I grabbed the spare key from under the rug.
"I will get you to say yes, Lucy!"
"You keep doing that buddy." I unlocked my door and closed it before he could say another word. I turned to lean on the door, sliding until I was sitting on the floor. I sat there in silence until a burst of laughter came over me.
I wiped a tear from my eye. "That fool..." I whispered.
