Chapter 21

"I guess I'm going to have to call you my girlfriend now," he smirked, twirling a lock of my hair around his finger.

"Woah..." I grabbed his hand, raising my brow, "since when did I agree to be your girlfriend?"

"Umm when we kissed last night?"

"Just because we kissed doesn't mean that I'm automatically your girlfriend." I crossed my arm, "It's going to take a lot more than just a kiss to win me over."

He chuckled, "I knew it wouldn't be that easy. You're a tough cookie Luce and I like that."

The bus stopped at our school dropping everyone off. I stepped off letting the icy breeze hit my face, "since when did it become so cold?" I said, chattering my teeth.

"I don't feel cold," Natsu said, shrugging his shoulder.

I stared at him. The only thing he had on was a short sleeve shirt and jeans, "it has to be about fifteen degrees out here how are you not cold?"

"I don't usually get cold. My mom always says I have a freakishly warm body temperature."

Yep he's definitely a weirdo.

The bell rang indicating we have a minute left to get to class, "we better hurry," I said, "the last thing I want is Ms. Smith on my ass about another thing."

"Today class we'll be learning about a whole new unit," She slammed a pile of papers on her desk, smiling wickedly like the evil teacher she is, "probability."

Stacks and stacks of papers were piled on each person's desk. I still don't know how she expects us to do all these papers in just two days! And a project! Are all teachers just insane and like torturing their students? Is this just a universal thing?

I jumped, startled, by the sound of a few books being slammed down on my desk. I glanced up to see Natsu smiling with his hands on his hips, "hey Luce!" He said.

"Umm hi." I couldn't help but eye him weirdly. Why is he acting so strange?

"Wanna be my partner for the project?"

"I'd rather work alone." I looked up to see him staring at me with his jaw dropped. I swear I could see a little tears forming in the corner of his eyes, "Natsu, I'm just kidding," I said giggling.

He pushed my shoulder, "don't play like that Luce. You hurt my feelings."

"Whatever big baby, but If we're going to work together you have to promise me to actually work and not play around."

"Don't worry, I know when not to play around Luce. I can be serious y'know."

"Well let's see you work. I'll do the first five pages and you can do the next five."

"Got it boss," he smiled.

"Don't call me boss."

"Roger that!"

I shook my head giggling, "such a dork."

"I don't understand why he's working with her," I heard someone whisper who was a couple of seats behind me, "she's a freak."

I continued listening to their conversation, "I wonder if she even told him that she's sick. She's probably tricking him or something to hang out with her."

I sighed, tapping my pencil, "I'm not sick," I whispered.

"What do you mean you're not sick?" Natsu asked, eyeing me kinda weirdly.

"It's nothing, let's just get back to work," I said continuing to work on one of the assignments.

Why do they treat me like this?

Like I'm some sort of freak!

I'm just like them. I can walk, I can run, jump, swim, talk and hear.

I just can't see color.

"Lucy!" He yelled, startling me.

"Huh?" I glanced back up at him.

"Your paper," he pointed. I glanced down seeing I put a hole in my paper from me writing to hard and little scribbles were all over the paper, "is there something wrong?"

"Umm?" I continued staring down at the paper, "no, I just need a minute." I stood up heading to door.

"Where you going?" He asked. I ran out the door before having time to answer him.

I ran down the hallway down to one of bathrooms running inside. Opening one of the stall doors, I sat on the seat trying to catch my breath, "Calm down Lucy," I whispered to myself, "don't let their words get to you. You're better than them, right?"

I know I'm a little different but they have no right to treat me like that. I never did anything to anyone. I've always been a good person, I never do anything wrong. So why? Why do I have to be the one treated like this?

I heard a knock on the stall, "are you alright in there?" They said.

I wiped the leftover tears that were still on my face, "Yes I'm fine thanks."

"It doesn't sound like it."

"I said I'm fine," I said, firmly, "don't worry about me."

"Look, whoever you are, I've had bad days too ok, and sometimes I need to talk it out with someone to make me feel better."

"You wouldn't understand!" I said, raising my voice a little, "you're not like me. You won't understand what I have to go through."

"You're right, but that doesn't mean you can't talk to anyone. Studies show if you talk to someone about your problems it makes you feel a thousand times better."

"That sounds like a fake statistic."

"Well, that's because it is." We both laughed. It does kinda feel better talking to someone, "why don't you come out here so we can talk a little more. I like to see the face of the people I'm talking too."

"How do I know I can trust you?" I whispered, "for all I know you can be like them."

"There's only one way to find out. Come on out."

I took a deep breath, staring at the lock. Telling someone you just met your darkest secrets and problems in your school bathroom is probably unheard of, but her offer does sound nice. Just someone to talk to for a few minutes can't hurt.

I opened the stall, revealing my face to her, "see, it wasn't that bad huh?" She said. I glanced at her from head to toe. From her beautiful, long hair that fell down to her waist to the pretty scarves that had the most amazing patterns on them surrounding her body.

She was beautiful, memorizing.

She stuck her hand out, trying to get me to shake it, "my name is Éclair."

I glanced at it for a second before grabbing her hand, "Lucy."

"Well, I'm all ears before the next class period, and..." She dug through her bookbag before bringing out chips and a couple bottles of juice, "I have snacks!"

"Wow," She said, stuffing a handful of potato chips in her mouth, "What bitches."

I rolled my eyes, "tell me about it. They've been bullying me since elementary school, and the more and more it happens, the more and more I just feel like giving up. I'm tired of feeling different. I just want to feel normal."

"But you are normal."

I laughed, "no I'm not."

"What do you have six toes on one foot or something?"

"No," I sighed, closing my eyes, "if I tell you this, please don't repeat it to someone else."

She crossed her heart, "your secrets safe with me."

I took a deep breath, "ever since I was born I've this problem called monochromacy. It's when you can only see black, white, and grey."

"So you've never seen colors before? Like red, blue, yellow?"

"No, and because of it I've been bullied for it."

She shook her head, "those idiots have nothing better to do than make fun of someone with a disability. Such cowards."

"And to make things worst, this guy that I like doesn't know I have it and he's an artist."

"Woah that's kinda..."

"Ironic? Yeah, I know. I want to tell him but I just... I just..."

"You don't trust him huh?"

"Is that bad?" I asked, "I want to tell him but that's something huge. There's a chance that he probably won't like me anymore and I can't lose him. He's everything to me."

She sighed, "first of all if he doesn't like you after you told him something like that then screw him! He wasn't worth it. But what if he accepts you and loves you for who you are? You'll never know until you tell him. You don't want to wait to long and lose him."

"No I don't. I just really don't want to lose him."

The bell rang through the building for next period. I sighed. I liked talking to her.

She was right though. Talking about you problems does help relieve a little of the stress.

"If you want to talk more, we can meet up this weekend and talk over some pizza."

I smiled, "that sounds great."

"Well here's my number." She grabbed my phone out of my back pocket, putting her number inside, "I expect a text Lucy." She pointed, heading toward the bathroom door.

"I will, I promise."

She smiled, "I'll see you around Lucy."

I walked down the hallway, staring down at her number. This feeling of a new friendship really sends butterflies to my stomach. I couldn't help smiling like a idiot while bumping into other students as I was walking down to my class.

"Luce! Luce!" I heard someone yelling my name as I was walking, "Lucy!" I glanced back and saw Natsu running towards me with my bookbag in his hand, "you left your stuff in class."

I grabbed my bag putting it around my shoulders, "Oh thanks, I totally forgot."

"Is there something wrong Luce? You're acting kinda weird."

I smiled staring back down at my phone again, "actually, I feel great for once."
