Chapter 16
"Tell me about him." I sat on the couch across from her.
"He's a regular at the bar. He's really sweet. Everyday he always came in and starts some of the most random conversations ever. Some of them don't even make sense half the time," She laughed, "but, I always enjoy hearing him talk to me."
"It's nice to hear that things are getting better for you."
"Yeah, I finally went to one of those support groups to help with the alcohol problems."
"Seriously?! That's great! I'm proud of you mom."
"Thank you. I just want to be someone you're proud of to have as a mother."
"I'll always be proud to have you as a mother. Faults and all."
"You're making me all teary eyed now." We both laughed.
I stood up, "I'll talk to you in the morning mom," I gave her a hug probably almost squeezing the life out of her, "goodnight."
She squeezed back just as tight, "goodnight, I love you."
"I love you too."
It's not that often I hear those words from my mother, but when I do, it brings out a whole other side of me. I just wanted that motherly love that everyone else has.
Today, she finally gave it me. I feel like this is the first time I can actually say I have a mother.
I changed into my pajamas and did all my other night rituals.
I was about to lay down in my bed until I heard my phone buzz, "just checking up on you, goodnight."
"Goodnight, Flamebrain." Ever since I heard Gray use that insult I've been dying to say it.
"Since when did you become Gray..."
"Haha. Goodnight." I put my phone on my nightstand and got comfortable in my bed and fell straight asleep.
The sound of my alarm clock was engulfed in my ears, making me wanna throw it out the window.
I slammed my hand on my alarm clock trying to turn it off but it just wasn't working!
It sounded like a freaking siren was going off in my room.
Wait? Why is my alarm clock even on today. It's Sunday.
"Rise and shine!" My mom came in my room blasting a horn throughout the whole house.
"What are doing?!" I screamed.
"Today me and you are spending the whole day together."
"Why does that sound like it's going to be torture?" I whispered.
"So get ready. First were going out for breakfast."
"Can I just sleep in? It's like eight in the morning."
"Not today. Hurry and get ready. Ahh! I'm so excited!"
Now I really can't say no.
I dragged my feet toward my closet and grabbed some jeans and a hoodie.
I was so tired! I fell asleep while taking a shower and brushing my teeth.
Ugh! Who gets up this early on a weekend? Crazy people! That's who!
"Come on Lucy or we're going to be late!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming." I walked down the stairs and met up with my mom.
"Alright! Let's get going."
It was freezing cold outside. The temperature dropped tremendously. As soon as I walked out I felt like giant popsicle.
Winter can suck sometimes.
"It's getting cold huh?" She said getting into the car.
"Yeah, it's freezing out there."
"We're going to have so much fun today!" She squealed.
I've never seen her so excited for something. I'm really glad I'm seeing this side of her again.
"Do you know what you're going to order?" She asked.
"Probably just the chicken and waffles. What about you?"
"I think I'll try the vegetarian omelet."
"Why vegetarian?"
"Well I'm trying to watch what I eat and cut down on meat. Meat is not always the best for you."
"Well as long as you don't force me to do it." I put my hands up.
"Hello, my name is Sting and I'll be your waiter. Can I start you off with something to drink?"
I choked on air. What the heck!? He works here? I've never seen him around here.
I turned to him. His eyes widened when he realized who I was, "Lucy? Wow, I didn't expect to see you here."
"Me either."
"So? How are you doing?"
"I'm doing good. How about you?" I smiled.
"Better now." he smiled.
Who turned up the heat? My whole body feels like it's on fire.
"Ahem!" My mom inturrupted us.
"Oh sorry, what would you guys like to drink?" He clicked his pen on his notepad.
"I'll take some orange juice." I said.
"I'll take a coffee. Black." She said, smiling, but this wasn't one of her ordinary smiles.
"I'll get that for you right away." He started speed walking back toward the kitchen.
"Who was the cutie?" She asked.
"He's just someone I met at the art show thing."
"He doest look like just someone."
"I only met him yesterday, we're not even considered friends yet."
"Didn't seem that way to me." She giggled.
"Stop it!" I whined.
"I'm just teasing you Lucy."
"Here you ladies go. One coffee and one orange juice."
"Thank you." We both said.
"So?" He clicked his pen, "What would you like to order?"
I started rubbing my stomach. One of the main reasons I come here is because of the huge portions.
"Man that was good!" I burped, "I can't eat another thing."
"You're going to be rolling around soon, I hope you know that." She said, eating the last of her potatoes.
"Here's the check, I hope you guys come back and see us." he said, but he was specifically looking at me.
We were walking out of restaurant until my mom stopped while looking in her purse, "Oh shoot! I forgot my keys in there."
How do you forget your... Nevermind.
"I'll go back and get them."
"You just want to go back in there and see that boy." She smirked.
"W-What?! No I don't! Do you want your keys or not?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll wait for you at the car."
I went in trying to remember what booth we were sitting at.
"Looking for these?" I turned and saw Sting sitting at the table, twirling the keys around his finger.
"Yeah, thank you." I went to grab them, but he wouldn't let me.
"Not so fast Lucy, I can't let you leave yet."
"And why is that?" I crossed my arms.
"I want to see you again, well at least when I'm not working."
I smiled, "Oh really?"
"Yes really." He chuckled, "So what do you say, Wednesday after school, we meet up here at around six."
"I-I don't know."
"Oh come on. It'll be fun, I promise."
"Fine, but it's not a date or anything. Just two friends."
"That's fine with me." He put the keys in my hand, "I'll see you soon Lucy."
I walked out the restaurant, grinning from ear to ear.
"Why are you so happy?" My mom asked.
I tossed the keys to her, "Nothing. Nothing at all. " I smiled.
