37. How you looked at me then

I remember when I first noticed that you liked me back
We were sitting down in a restaurant waiting for the check
We had made love earlier that day with no strings attached
But I could tell that something had changed how you looked at me then

They were eating their breakfast, laughing at everything the other said. It was a rather cute scene to watch. Suddenly, Jimin reached for his pocket to see his phone with a new message. The frown on his face didn't go unnoticed by Yoongi.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Jimin furrowed his eyebrows and sighed. "It's my mom. She just texted me to tell me they're not staying for a week as they planned because of what happened yesterday. They're leaving right now and my dad is mad. What a surprise."

"I'm sorry for making things problematic."

"They already were. Don't apologize, I already told you I'm grateful for it. I just wish my dad was less of a..."

"Dick."

Jimin chuckled. "Yeah, that." Jimin was now playing with the pancake on his plate, no longer hungry. "I feel bad for my mom. She always tells me how much she loves me and she does everything a good mother would, but she's so afraid. I know what happened yesterday hurt her and she must be feeling anxious right now, dealing with my dad's anger."

"Your dad seems..."

"He is." Jimin laughs softly. "He's mean."

"Well, he has that in common with my dad too. They would get along well or just murder each other."

"Just like us." Jimin smiled. There was something different in the environment between the two. Both of them felt free now.

"I don't wanna kill you anymore." Yoongi smiled and encouraged himself to speak more. "I know you told me you already forgave me and I know you don't hate me, but could it be possible, you know, that you felt something more?"

Now Jimin looked amused. "Something like what?"

"I don't know." Yoongi looked down and scratched the back of his right ear, something he did when he was nervous or shy. "Like... Jimin, you know."

Jimin just laughed, making his eyes disappear. "What, Yoongi. Tell me."

Still not making eye contact, Yoongi cleared his throat. "Could it be possible that you love me?" he asked in a soft voice, feeling insecure for the first time.

Jimin looked at the man in front of him, with that big, grey hoodie he looked so young and careless, just like the Yoongi Jimin fell in love with. But now it was even better. Yoongi seemed to be interested in him this time, and Jimin had to choose to be brave and try to give a chance to Yoongi.

"I still do." Jimin admitted, not missing how Yoongi's eyes finally met his with a glint. "I never stopped loving you." Jimin shrugged as if this wasn't a huge confession. But his heart was beating so fast, Jimin felt Yoongi might hear it pounding.

With a slightly blushed face and a gummy smile, Yoongi nodded. "I-I'm actually happy to know that." Yoongi tried to keep his cool, but failed miserably. "God, I'm so happy." He snorted.

"Yeah..." Jimin finally took a bite of his pancakes again, suddenly feeling hungry even though there were butterflies in his tummy. "Me too."

They kept talking of a little bit of everything until they ended up remembering the good old days. Well, for Jimin, not so good.

"But when did you realize you liked me? Actually, now that we're talking about it, when did you realize you liked... men?." Yoongi asked, still a little awkward about the topic since he always believed he was straight. He was confused not too long ago because he still believed he liked only girls, in fact, he still believed it, but now he liked Jimin too.

"I kind of always knew it. I always only liked boys since I was a kid, but I always saw how gays were badly treated, so I never thought about telling anyone I liked boys too." He shrugged, drinking his hot chocolate. "That's why I slept with so many girls."

"That must have been hell to you."

"It was." Jimin nodded. "I never enjoyed it. I was feeling uncomfortable all the time and never got to, you know, have an actual orgasm."

"You should've just stopped doing anything sexual instead."

"I couldn't. My dad was proud of the little fucker I was and I wanted him to be."

"So your dad hasn't been like that all the time?"

"No." Jimin bit his lip. "He kind of realized I wasn't the manly son he wanted and since then he started acting like a dick towards me. It started when I hit puberty. Puberty being a closeted gay is hell." Jimin admitted laughing. "Which leads to the other question you asked."

"Oh, right." Yoongi anticipated.

"I realized I was attracted to you when Hobi introduced us because it was your first day in school." Jimin smiled, remembering it. "You were older than us, so you were not in our classes, but still we helped you to find where your classes were and I found you so attractive."

"Really?" Yoongi raised a brow, amused by Jimin's bluntness. "Tell me more."

"To feed that ego of yours? Nah."

"Come on. I just feel curious."

"Alright." Jimin smiled. "The first time I popped a boner for you was when-"

"Hey! That's too much information, don't you think?" Yoongi blushed.

"What? You wanted to know, so deal with it." Jimin continued, loving Yoongi's ears turning red. "The first time I realized I liked you, like, a lot, was when we were in the school showers. I always felt weird watching some of my classmates naked, but then I saw you and bam! A boner." Jimin laughed, and Yoongi regretted ever asking.

"I think I liked you better when you were too shy to speak your thoughts." Yoongi joked as he asked a waiter for the check.

"No, you didn't." Jimin laughed. "But the thing is, I already knew you then. I knew you because you were always with Hobi and I got to know you. I liked your personality. You're always calmed and cool, but you could also be silly, especially if you were with Hobi. Your presence always gave this relaxed vibe and I liked how serious you were." Jimin admitted. He was really letting this man seem vulnerable. He just hoped Yoongi stayed true to his word of never hurting him again. "You still are like that."

Yoongi felt a warm sensation on his face and also in his heart. This boy really liked him so much and he was too busy being a dick to him. "I feel sorry because I didn't even try to get to know you back then."

"It wasn't your fault. My ways to draw your attention weren't the best either."

"Still." Yoongi hesitantly slipped his hand through the wooden table and touched Jimin's cold fingers with his. "I feel sorry because, now that I finally know you, I can say you're one of the kindest and loveliest people I've ever know."

Jimin's heart skipped a beat at his words, and then he melted when he finally felt Yoongi's hand holding his. "T-Thank you." Jimin stuttered.

"No." Yoongi offered him a sweet smile. "Thank you for letting me get to know you all over again, Jiminie."

As they were waiting for the check at that small cafeteria, with a cloudy sky as their background and their fingers intertwined, they knew something had changed in the way they were looking at each other now. They knew they felt more than attraction and, finally, it felt mutual.

When they returned and were two meters away from their apartment door -smiling like idiots and still holding hands- they heard another door being slammed with force and then they heard yelling.

"You don't really care about me! Taehyung yelled in a deep voice, looking rather angry. "Everything I do, I do it thinking about you too, but you're just full of yourself and drowning in self-pity that you can't realize what you have right in front of you!" Ignoring Jimin's and Yoongi's presence, Taehyung stormed off, wearing the long black coat that he wore to go to his job.

Jimin and Yoongi just stayed there, watching Jungkook's dumbfounded expression. He had never seen Taehyung so mad because of him and he frankly didn't understand what had Taehyung so angry.

"You really don't realize what he means right? You're clueless." Yoongi finally spoke to a confused Jungkook as he scoffed.

"Don't be so mean. You were clueless for years too." Jimin stated and Yoongi felt a slight blush trying to appear on his face.

Yoongi just shrugged and opened the door to walk in his apartment. Jimin offered a small empathetic smile to Jungkook before following Yoongi to their home. Jungkook looked at them and felt his heart tug with hurt. Oh, how he had wished he had something like that too, but he felt no one liked him and now Taehyung was mad at him and Jungkook couldn't feel any worse. That's why he found himself knocking on his neighbor's door.

Yoongi opened it and his small eyes widened.

"What do you want?"

"What a polite way to greet your student." Jungkook scoffed.

"I don't think you're here for something university-related." Yoongi answered and Jimin's head appeared behind him to see what was happening.

"I need help." Jungkook finally sighed and his shoulders dropped, making Yoongi drop his mean character too.

"What's wrong?" He sighed.

"What did you mean that I'm so clueless and I don't realize?" Jungkook asked, feeling miserable. "What can't I realize that apparently all of you can?"

"Are you serious?" Yoongi laughed and Jimin slightly hit his shoulder.

"Don't be mean. He's asking for help."

"Alright, alright. I'm going to say it bluntly because I can see you don't notice obvious things."

"Just say it!" Jungkook rolled his eyes.

"Taehyung likes you." Yoongi couldn't help laughing at his student's doe eyes going comically wide. "And a lot. He was actually so jealous of Jimin when you tried -to no avail, I may add- to hit on him."

It took several minutes for Yoongi to finally spill all the details about how he got all that information and confession from Taehyung. Another bunch of minutes for Jungkook to process everything.

Taehyung liked him?

"What?!"

Happy Festa, everyone! 💜
