20. Rainy day

Jimin was feeling sad. Very miserable. The worst part is that he didn't even know why, but sometimes you just don't. He was feeling like he could cry at any moment as he worked on an essay in his laptop. The weather was not helping him too much, it had been pouring outside the whole day. It was still five in the afternoon and the outside looked so dark because of the clouds.

Jimin grabbed his m&m's and ate some as he felt a lump in his throat. Have you ever felt that way? He experienced that feeling once in a while. The feeling of despair, loneliness and, right after those feelings, came the regret. Regret of feeling that way because he couldn't be ungrateful. He had it all: a family, a good place to live in, he was studying, he was not even working yet, his parents helped him with his expenses. Then why?

Why?

He jumped off his bed when he saw a figure right in front of his bedroom door, looking at him because the door was open.

"Oh, my God! Yoongi, what the hell?" Jimin yelled when he recognized him. The latter quickly entered and helped Jimin to stand up.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to- I just- sorry." Yoongi scratched the back of his neck as he saw Jimin with those piercing dark eyes. "I just wanted to ask you if you're ok."

Jimin was a little surprised at the question. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"

"Umm, well, you're crying." The elder, in spite of his cold expression, sounded... worried?

Jimin's eyes widened as he brought his hand to his eyes and realized it was wet. In fact, he was crying, but he was too busy to realize it. How busy can you get to not realize your body is clearly showing you're hurting?

"Oh, it's nothing. I probably just yawned." He looked away from that intense gaze, but Yoongi knew it. He saw that confusing and heartbreaking scene in which seemed so deep in thought as he typed in his laptop a frown on his face and red eyes. He was eating those m&m's as if they were about to disappear. And suddenly Yoongi saw the tears. They were coming out as if they had been held for too long and it was not possible to do it any longer. And Yoongi didn't know how to react. What could he possibly do? He was debating when Jimin saw him and brought them to this mere moment.

"Yawning?" Yoongi asked with a raised eyebrow as he sat down on Jimin's bed. "Are you tired?"

"Yes." Jimin whispered. He was exhausted, but not in the way Yoongi asked.

"Then rest." Yoongi gave him a small smile and Jimin felt a little better because he was not used to it.

"I have to work."

"You're always working so hard on your papers. Take a break. Take it from a university professor." He smiled again.

"Yeah, but you're not my professor."

"Still. I can see you're tired. Rest a little." Jimin just hummed as if he was saying 'I have no time for that'. Yoongi then kicked off his shoes and laid on Jimin's bed to the latter's surprise.

"What are you doi-"

"Come on. Let's take a break." It was such a weird action from Yoongi, but he was really trying. That feeling of distance between them had to go away. And Jimin wanted it as well, so he just closed his laptop, put it on his bedside table and laid down besides de older. [I don't know if it's older or elder. I'm running out of English.]

"This is really weird." Yoongi smiled shyly. It was new. Jimin liked to know new things about Yoongi.

"I know." Jimin smiled too and his eyes almost disappeared. He grabbed his bag of m&m's and handed it to Yoongi. "Want some?"

"Do you think that can make this situation better?" The dark haired asked.

"Jesus, just say yes or no." Jimin laughed.

"Yes, thank you." Yoongi grabbed some and both ate in silence, but it was not an awkward silence anymore. It was a comfortable silence, one in which they both felt in peace, like they were really resting. Jimin indulged himself to close his eyes while tasting that sweet chocolate and hearing the rain outside.

Yoongi saw him. He really did.

Who would have thought Jimin could be such a tranquil soul now? He thought, but he had the idea that behind that soothing façade, there was chaos most of the time. And he knew it was his fault. Will I ever be able to stop this pang of guilt every time I look at him?

Jimin opened his eyes and noticed those intense dark eyes on him again. He felt really intimidated.

"I was just-" He started mumbling.

"I know." Yoongi tried to relax him. "I like the sound of rain too." Yoongi smiled. They shared a prolonged silence and Jimin's thoughts were going wild. His face most have showed it because Yoongi broke the silence again. "What are you thinking?"

"Nothing." He answered way too quickly. He was used to answer that all the time at any question, after all. But Yoongi was starting to realize how his expression changed when he was conflicted. Was it always that easy to read his body language? Why did I find out just today? I guess I never paid too much attention.

"Say it." Yoongi talked gently. "I won't judge." And that prompted Jimin to speak. Stuttering, but it was an advance.

"I-I just d-don't understand how it can be this e-easy now." He stopped for a second because he felt that he didn't have enough oxygen. "You k-know, that we're talking. Why wasn't it that easy b-before all that h-happened?" Stupid stuttering, Jimin mentally scolded himself. You sound ridiculous, you should have stayed in silence.

"I was thinking almost the same thing." Yoongi closed his eyes to hear the rain and to let himself speak his mind. Of course he didn't struggle like Jimin to express his thoughts, but he sometimes closed his eyes to completely convey them. "We were really young and naive, and I didn't give you the chance."

"I'm still young." Jimin joked, and it was another advance that made Yoongi smile.

"Me too."

"You're a teacher." Jimin retorted, his smile was still there. It was a new record.

"So what? It doesn't mean I'm old. I'm just older than you." Yoongi flashed a gummy smile and Jimin noticed something, he was not that sad anymore. He liked the company, especially if it was a peaceful company like this new Yoongi.

Peacefulness.

Something that Jeon Jungkook could break in a matter of seconds when he knocked the door. Something he could break just by his mere existence.

Yoongi got up when he heard the door, the blond following right behind, and Yoongi's surprise was great when he saw his student in front of him with his usual doe eyes and a bunny smile that disappeared too fast.

"Jungkook, what are you doing here? Do you need help with your work? This is so unusual, you never need help with my assignments." He started rambling, but Jungkook stopped him before he could continue.

"No, don't worry, Professor." He smiled, but it faltered. "Is Jimin here?"

Yoongi's small eyes widened. "Jimin? Y-yes, He's here." He turned around to see the blond walking towards Jungkook with the same surprised expression, nonetheless he smiled brightly.

"Hi, Jimin." Jungkook smiled biting his lips.

"Hi. W-what are you doing here?"

Did he just stutter? Yoongi wondered, still at the front door. Jimin and Jungkook looked at him and he noticed he was still in the same position. He just shrugged and walked to the kitchen to make some tea, even though he was not thirsty.

"I was going to the gym and I realized you hadn't gone, so I-"

"You go to the same gym?" Jimin was surprised because he had never seen Jungkook there.

"Yeah, I've seen you there a few times and I was wondering if you wanted a training buddy?" Jungkook showed his smile. Yoongi smiled and thought that Jimin would obviously say no.

"I'd love too." Yoongi's mouth dropped. "I feel a little lonely there sometimes, it would be great to have company."

"Great." Jungkook pushed his dark brown hair back. "Are you coming?"

"Right now?"

"Yeah."

"S-sure. Let me get my stuff."

Jimin disappeared into his room and in a matter of seconds came back with his bag.

"Jiminie, you know it's pouring outside?" Yoongi spoke suddenly.

"Don't worry, sir. We'll go in my car." Jungkook answered, and Yoongi cringed at the word 'sir'. Of course he loved those respectful words because he was a professor, but this time, in front of Jimin and Jungkook, it sounded like he was an old man, Jimin's father probably, and Jungkook was telling him that he would treat his son right.

"Yeah, whatever." He just said. In a few seconds Jimin had gone into the rainy afternoon with that Jungkook boy.

The first two paragraphs are LITERALLY the way I was feeling when I wrote this.

But yeah, happy birthday to me.
