Chapter 1

11 years later

Aurora set down the last of her boxes on the ground in her new room. Well, she didn't know if she would call an attic her room. It was hot and dusty in there, but after doing a little sweeping it got a little better. Only a little. But at least the attic was spacious.

Aurora took some of her belongings out of her box. The first thing she pulled out was a gold picture frame. The frame held a picture of a beautiful woman with chestnuts brown hair, smiling. In her arms was a smiling little girl, with pink ribbons holding her black hair in pigtails.

Aurora clutched the frame close to her chest, as memories started to flood her mind. Her mother, Melinda, was the most sweet woman ever who left the earth far too soon. She set the frame on the silt of her tiny round window.

"Aurora, get your butt down here!" Aurora heard her father yell all the way from down stairs. She came down from her attic room to the first floor. Her father stood there with a crossed look on his face.

"Yes father," Aurora said carefully not to anger him more.

"Where the heck were you?" he growled, "the movers are here, so please help get the furniture in."

"Yes sir."

Aurora went out to the moving truck where boxes and furniture. The movers moved the boxes from the large truck and onto the ground. Aurora bent down to pick up one of them. She carefully engulfed her arms around the box, and lifted it up to carry into the house. Suddenly, her foot got caught and she tripped and fell.

"Seriously, Aurora. Tripping and falling must be your favorite hobby. I see you on the ground ninety-nine percent of the time."

Aurora looked up and saw her older brother standing above her. His blonde hair which hung from his forehead blew in the wind, covering his dark eyes. His dark, commanding, piercing eyes that would make anyone shake in fear. His crooked teeth were clenched and his big nose was pinched up, making him look like a pig. Aurora tried get up, but her attempt was useless as he presses his foot on top of her body.

"Such a same you didn't inherit the James family grace and strength. Oh, wait you were adopted," he sneered, "No wonder your birth family gave you up, one look at you they saw a disgusting rat."

"Ryan, please get off," Aurora pleaded quietly.

"Look, you broke the lamp in the box by being your stupid clumsy self," Ryan scolded.

Aurora looked towards the box. Sure enough the lamp was broken, with its pieces spilling out of the box. Her hands started to shake, her breath became rapid. Ryan say her panic, is mouth went upright with satisfaction.

"Wait til dad sees that you broke mom's—my mom's favorite lamp," he sneered.

Aurora's breathing became rapid, her brown eyes widen, as her body began to shake. She covered her face with her arms, preparing for the worst.

Ryan gives a sadistic laugh as he looked down at his sister who was trembling in fear. How he loved having that power over her.

"Look at me, Ughora," Ryan demanded.

Aurora slowly uncovered her face and looked up at him standing over her. He pressed his foot down harder on her body.

"What is with you, always destroying stuff that has to do with my mom," he says slowly.

"Sh-she m-m-my mom too. And it was an accident," Aurora said in a quiet voice, as she quaked in fear.

"Thats bull! You are just a stupid item my mom shopped for cause she wanted more children. If only she knew what a waste of resources you would become!"

Ryan growled and kicked her in her side. Aurora grabbed her side, rubbing it to ease the pain. She slowly got up and brushed herself off. She looked at the lamp that she broke. Ryan was right, just like the lamp, she had broken many things, like this family.

She picked up the lamps broken shards, careful not to cut herself. She put it back into the box and took it in with her. Maybe she could lie and said I broke on its journey here. But her brother saw it all and would most definitely tell father, if not he had already. She mentally prepared herself for the worst. Because she had experienced the worst.

"Aurora!" Aurora cringed when she heard her name being shouted. She walked slowly to the room that her father was in.

"Did you break the lamp?" Her father growled. When he looked down at the box that she was holding, he saw the pieces scattered into the box. His big hand met Aurora's face with a loud smack.

"You stupid, clumsy brat. You broke my wife's favorite lamp. You useless piece of junk!" He bellowed, slapping her again.

Aurora kept down her whimper, she knew it would only make it so much worse if he heard. Instead she clenched her fist tightly, until her knuckles turned white.

"You up to your room! I don't want to see you until tomorrow!" He gave her a big push, making her fall on her knees. Which got a laugh from both her father and brother.

"Go. Go. Go! Faster I don't want to see you!"

Aurora quickly trotted upstairs to her attic room and closed the door behind her. She only had two boxes belongings up there, the rest were downstairs. She doubt her brother or father would bring them up for her.

She had no bed, covers, pillows, or even clean clothes with her. Her stomach grumbled, signaling it was time to eat. But she couldn't go down there til morning. She searched her backpack that was in the room with her. All she had was a third of water in her plastic bottle and a granola bar. She opened up the bar and quickly devoured it. She only took small sips of water, in order to save it for the rest of the time she was supposed to be up there.

They were right. She deserved to be up her all day, she deserved those slaps. Cause if she hadn't come into this family, her mom would be still alive.
