You're Staring (Doc XReader Fluff)
Your POV
It was the middle of winter in Hill Valley California, even though we never got any snow it was still pretty chilly. Right now, I was sitting in the garage with Doc. Marty had passed out some time ago with Einstein on the couch since it was the weekend. The air around us was silent, but it was more of a comfortable silence rather than an awkward one.
Tapping my pencil on my notebook for a moment, I was torn from my homework as I had watched him work. The sound of the wrench clicking as he turned it and tightened any nut that needed it. Smiling as I watched him work I gazed at him as he had been focusing on his work.
"May I ask why you're staring at me?" he said as his brown eyes glanced over to me. Blinking as I had noticed I had in fact been staring, I shook my head quickly as if he could hear the rocks rattle in my head.
"Oh, was I staring?" I asked as I bit my lip nervously. He turned over to me and reached for a small rag that was on the toolbox, using it to wipe his hands. "You have, for quite some time now." he said. Looking over to my notebook as I tried my best to not fold under his gaze.
Hearing the soles of his shoes against the concrete floor of his garage. The wheels had started to squeak a little as he rolled over. Reaching out his hand to mine once he had stopped in front of the table I was sitting at, my eyes shot to his.
Not being able to stop smiling as i looked at him, I decided that I would just keep the smile. He looked at me for a moment before he spoke up. "You haven't answered the question" he said as he rolled closer, I could feel his legs as they brushed against mine a little. I looked at him as I thought of an answer. It took me only a moment before it popped into my head.
"Has anyone ever told you that you look at peace when you work on something? It's almost like you go to another place while you focus on something to fiddle with. Like you couldn't be happier doing something else."
He blinked as he looked at me for a moment. Did I say something wrong? Did he not like the answer I gave him? Leaning back in his chair he blinked before he hummed, his face turning a light shade of pink and then he began to smile. Shaking his head as he rolled back to what he was doing, only this time he had his back to me.
"D-Doc? What is it?" I asked as he stopped and shook his head again. "N-nothing, It's fine, dear" Standing slowly I went over to where he was and put my hand on his shoulder, turning him around. He leaned away from me in his chair before I smiled gently.
"Tell me what it is." I said and he sighed gently as his shoulders relaxed while he held a tool in his hand. "No one has ever said anything like that to me. I've never had anyone around when I made anything since I've lived alone for so long, and in school no one was around because I didn't have many friends." He said.
Humming gently I turned him in his chair to face me. "Sounds like you'll have to get used to being stuck with Marty and I." Tilting my head as I looked at him before I made my way back to my homework.
Sitting down and grabbing my pencil as I twirled it before I started answering the rest of the questions I leaned my head on my hand as I looked at the work.
Hearing the wheels roll around on Doc's chair as I worked I listened for anymore movement as I thought that he just went back to his work, that was before he touched my shoulder.
Looking at him as he tapped my pencil eraser on the paper I rose a brow. Be grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug as he rested his chin on my shoulder. Hugging him back I smiled a little.
"Thank you." He said gently into my shoulder as we stood there. Raising a brow as I hugged him I started to speak. "Is everything okay?" I asked as I pulled away enough to look at him.
Nodding as he thought for a moment he glanced at his work before looking back at me. "I never had friends that didn't care let alone encouraged my work before. For the most of my childhood I had thought that I would never meet friends like you and Marty."
Smiling gently I kissed his cheek. "We aren't going anywhere Doc, there's nothing to worry about. Marty and I have been some pretty odd balls in our time too, so we're glad to have you too." I said before smiling wide. He leaned down for a second and kissed my head before he ruffled my hair. Going back to our work the silence from earlier came back as we smoked to ourselves.
