           MARGUERITE BLUMENTHAL is certain that the universe made a catastrophic mistake with her existence. She knows that, out of her family's litter of seven children, she is most definitely the accident child (because who willingly chooses to have another kid nine months after giving birth to their third baby? no one, that's who!) and as the cursed middle sibling, she is the most easily overlooked. Marguerite is not remarkable like her Auror brother Basil or sophisticated like her Head Girl sister Violet ━  nor is she popular at school like her other siblings Primrose and Aster. Even the youngest member of her family has shown more promise than Marguerite did at her age, considering that she didn't display any signs of magic until she was nearly six years-old and four year-old Daisy can already make her teddy bear tap dance ...

Marguerite's parents have always called her their late bloomer ("... and in the garden of life, Maggie, the late blooms are especially beautiful!") and that is all anyone has ever seen her as ━  unremarkable, untalented, and underwhelming Marguerite Blumenthal; the world's latest bloomer. So imagine her surprise when the Harry James Potter (the Boy Who Lived, the Chosen One, Wizard Jesus Reborn, etc.) approaches Marguerite and says: "Er, so, I really need a date to the Yule Ball and I heard you haven't got anyone to go with yet ..."

It might be the absolute worst proposition that she's ever heard, but Marguerite has always had a soft spot for lost causes (birds with broken wings, bees drowning in swimming pools, mice caught in traps) so what else was she supposed to do  ━  not say yes?
