Fourteen

They had to go to school again. Well, at least, Phil did. He was too young looking to pass off as an adult, and they couldn't just leave him at home, since it was technically his job. But there was no way Dan was letting him be alone for seven hours a day. And so he decided to apply for a job there. A mundane job, that is.

"Gym teacher?" Phil asked amusedly, staring at dan and obviously trying not to laugh.

"Yeah." Dan replied defensively. "Their old teacher got into some kind of accident, and they didn't have any other positions available."

"Dan, you can barely walk down the stairs without having a heart attack, no offense." Phil said. "How the hell are you going to teach a whole class about physical exertion?"

"I'm sure I won't have to do too much." Dan shrugged. "Just make sure they don't slack off or get seriously injured."

Phil started laughing. Dan scowled at him, but he felt his body warm at the sound. It had been a while since he'd heard Phil laugh like that.

"You are so going to be fired." Phil gasped, still giggling. "Seriously, I give you a week."

"Oh, shut up." Dan said. "Where's your schedule, school boy?"

Phil pulled himself together and pulled out a sheet of paper from the mess on the table in front of them, handing it to Dan.

"I just don't think it's fair that I have to go to school and you don't." Phil said, pouting. Dan only smirked at him, trying to make sense of all the papers scattered everywhere.

"Because you look like a teenager. And I don't." he said.

"Why can't we just stay here the whole time." Phil whined. "I don't want to go back."

"Because we have to blend in." Dan explained. "It would look weird if people saw you and me living together, going and snooping all over the place."

"Why, cause we're gay?"

"Cause you're eighteen, and I'm twenty one."

"It's still legal."

"Calm down, Phil." Dan said, laughing slightly. "We probably won't even be here for longer than a week."

Phil sighed, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm only gonna see you once a day."

Dan smiled, sliding over and running his fingers through Phil's hair. "We live together, Phil. I'm sure you'll see enough of me everyday."

"Yeah, but I want to see you all the time." Phil conceded, throwing his arms around Dan's waist and laying on his shoulder. "I'm gonna go mad, being by myself in that place."

"You'll be fine." Dan said, hugging him back tightly. Phil only grumbled into his shoulder, which made
him laugh. "Stop being so dramatic."

"Oh I'm the dramatic one." Phil said, glaring up at him. "Just last night you were complaining because the shower curtain wasn't long enough for the shower."

"That's a serious geometrical issue!" Dan exclaimed, rolling his eyes at Phil's conceding look. "You know I have problems with stuff like that."

"Oh, I do know." Phil said.

Dan smiled at him, sighing before reaching out and grabbing a stack of papers. "We do need to finish this. We have to start tomorrow."

"What does going to school even have to do with this job? It's not like my dad has any sort of connection with it." Dan didn't miss the slight catch in his voice when he said 'dad' but he didn't question it.

"Because we need to blend in." He explained again. Phil groaned, banging his head against the table. Dan reached out and ran his fingers through Phil's hair reassuringly. "You'll be fine, it's not like you haven't been to high school before."

"Yeah, and that was such a great experience." Phil grumbled. He sat up and reluctantly started going through the papers as well.

That was pretty much all they did for the rest of the day.
