____

The Annual Iiliria Day Ball was going to start in 3 hours, and Dean had already made sure everything was perfect. It was not his job, but he knew Calista, and the other mentors would be busy with the security, and foreign guests, he was happy to help.

Calista Thorton had been a mother to Dean ever since he came to the school. His parents were in the war and were killed there, Calista then took Dean's responsibility. Calista always made him learn all the official work too. She would tell him to learn as it would be his one day.

Dean didn't want the school or the responsibility of the town. He was happy being a support to Calista.

"The work here is done, Dean. Go rest, the guests will start arriving soon," Asher told him, making Dean agitated.

"I'll be fine," Dean said, biting back the rudeness on the tip of his tongue.

"I know. I'm sorry, just being..." Asher was saying.

"A mother?" Dean cut Asher off who just sighed.

"It's okay Dean, I get it you know, you like Annie," Asher said softly, taking Dean by surprise. He calmed himself and looked at Asher with a passive face.

"What are you saying? I don't like TJ like that," Dean said waving his hand. Of course, he wasn't a fool to admit it TJ's boyfriend.

"Can we talk somewhere else?" Asher asked, looking around. No one was looking at them but Dean knew better. He nodded and turned around, and started to walk for Asher to follow.

As they reached inside Dean's room, he closed the door behind him. The door couldn't even stop TJ from barging in, what good was it?

He smiled a bit as he remembered TJ's reaction when she and Amaya saw him shirtless. He enjoyed her reaction, it gave him a good ego boost.

"I don't know why we are here, I have nothing to talk to you," Dean said walking towards his dresser.

"You and I both know we have," Asher said calmly, confusing Dean. Wasn't TJ his girlfriend? How can he be so calm when he knows Dean liked her? "Look, Dean, I don't want to fight, not when it's over Annie's affection. I just want you to tell Annie about your feelings," Asher explained and Dean raised his eyebrow at him.

"I don't get it" Dean decided to clear his doubts, "First you claim that I have feelings for TJ, then you tell me to go tell her. Aren't you her boyfriend? Aren't you supposed to beat me or get jealous that TJ spends most of her time with me despite you knowing my feelings for her?" Dean said a bit arrogantly but Asher's expression remained calm but a ghost of a smile was there on his lips.

"You have no idea what happens to me when I see Annie with other guys. I was burning inside when I saw her getting tackled by those boys at the lacrosse camp. I can see how much male attention she gets while she is unaware of everything. I do get jealous, so jealous that I wish she was invisible like I was. But I can't be so selfish," Asher said and Dean was curious. He remained quiet and let Asher continue.

"Dean, I saw her when she thought I was dead. I know it's psychopathic, and wrong to hear, but I felt happy when I saw her crying for me. I wanted to stop her, yes. I wanted to shout, and scream and tell her I was there, double yes. But I knew something for sure, she loved me. She loves me, and I trust her. I've trusted her since the day I saw her. Weird, I know. But I knew I could trust her when I saw her, and when I got to know her, I saw that too, she's crazy loyal. She won't leave you, if she loves you, she would die but won't leave you," Asher told Dean who thought that his heart was replaced by drums.

Hearing about TJ from Asher wasn't what he expected, he wanted to smile at the way Asher talked about TJ. He could hear the love he felt for her, and although this was unusual but he felt like he was happy for TJ and Asher. He should be pissed, why wasn't he pissed?

"You love her and you trust her. But do you trust her so much that she won't leave you for me?" Dean asked Asher who smiled and shook his head.

"I trust her to not break any of ours heart. Believe me, Dean, it's not yours, or my heart which would be broken if you tell Annie about your feelings tonight," Asher said with a sad smile and a faraway look on his face.

"What?" Dean asked. Wasn't he going to get his heart broken? Was Asher blind or stupid? Dean like TJ a lot, more than he has liked anyone in his life. How can he not get his heart broken? TJ would choose Asher, even Asher knew that but he wasn't being overconfident about it.

"You'll know soon," Asher said, "I say you take rest, I'll see you at the ball," Asher told him, getting up from the chair in front of his study table.

"You are crazy to say that I won't be heartbroken Asher. I will tell her tonight, finish this thing, but I don't think I would be less heartbroken afterward," Dean told him but Asher just sadly smiled at him and left.

What the hell was Asher talking about? Who was going to get their heart broken?

With his words circling in his mind, Dean fell on his bed and closed his eyes.

Dean woke up with a curse when he saw the time. It was already 6:30 pm; the ball was going to start in half an hour. He had to check the arrangements again but he had no time for that. He decided to get ready fast and then go and check everything downstairs.

Dean smiled when he took out the tuxedo from his closet. It was navy in color. Calista gave it to him 2 days ago. She wanted him to wear it, she especially got it made by the best designer for him. She really treated him like a son.

As he got into the shower, Dean thought what Amaya and TJ would be up to. Were they late like him, or were they already done dressing up and would reach downstairs on time?

Of course, they would be late, Amaya was never on time. TJ was more punctual, it seemed like it was a sports thing that made her so disciplined. He wondered what TJ would be wearing.

Dean saw TJ once in a dress, on the day of the enrollment ceremony. TJ wore the dress differently, she had a dangerous aura giving black leather jacket, and ankle boots with the dress. She still managed to look hot, Dean had no idea how.

Dean was sure TJ was going to wear a dress, although he had never seen her in anything except yoga pants, and ripped jeans or shorts which were rare too. The only girly clothes Dean saw TJ in were her school uniform.

Good lord! She looked amazing in her school uniform, her mile-long legs were a treat to watch when she walked in that skirt. What if she wears a short dress?

No, he thought. Amaya won't let her wear a short dress. Amaya had a thing for long dresses. Especially those fluffy gowns. She told Dean once that on their last year of school, that she's going to wear a princess ball gown. Although Dean had no idea what she was talking about but he nodded, and told her that she would look good in it.

With these thoughts, Dean got dressed quickly. He combed his hair and set them in a classic side parting. He had grown a bit of stubble, TJ complemented him on looking good with it, so Dean decided to keep them.

He tried to tie the bow tie around his neck but was unsuccessful. Frustrated, Dean picked up his phone, and dialed the only person who could help him.

"What?" The voice sounded pissed off.

"I can't tie the bow tie," Dean told her.

"I taught you before so many times. Why can't you learn at once?" Amaya groaned.

"I tried, I swear. I can't tie it. I tried to make that fancy knot but ended up choking," Dean told her honestly.

"Gosh, Dean. You're such an imbecile," Amaya said before she heard shuffling, and talking on the other line.

Suddenly he saw one of TJ's portal open up, and Amaya entered from it. She was wearing a bathrobe, and her wavy hair was up in a ponytail which looked straighter than usual. She had basic makeup, eyeliner, and mascara. Nothing else, but she still looked good.

Amaya looked up at Dean, and her eyes widened how close she landed to him. They were not even at an arms distance, maybe a half arm. What the hell?

"Where is that bloody tie? Come on, I don't have time," Amaya grumbled, and Dean smiled and shook his head but gave Amaya the tie.

Amaya came closer to him, and Dean didn't have to bend much down for her as Amaya was wearing heels. As Amaya tied the bowtie, Dean couldn't help, but look at her. Well, to his defense, he had nothing else to do while Amaya was busy.

Amaya was concentrating on the tie, Dean knew that because her tongue was sticking out of her mouth, side wards which meant she was when she concentrated on something. Her brows were creased, Dean thought it was cute and adorable. Her green orbs weren't looking at anything except the tie and his neck, and for a moment he wanted her to look at him.

What was he doing? That's Amaya, why was he thinking about her like this.

"You aren't ready," Dean pointed out the obvious as Amaya pushed a piece behind the main knot.

"Really? I didn't notice" Amaya said in an expressionless voice.

"Oh come on! I'm trying to make a conversation here. You haven't talked to me in forever," Dean pointed out. Which was the truth, Amaya didn't talk to Dean much recently. The practice sessions were the only time they interacted.

"So you mean you miss me?" Amaya asked casually, almost finishing the bow.

"Of course I do, Maya. Why won't I?" Dean asked her. Obviously, he missed her, she was his friend, and an old friend that too. She was the only person except for Calista who never made fun of Dean when he had problems with his powers.

"It's done," Amaya said, backing away but Dean wanted answers. He held her hand and pulled her to him. Amaya's hand hit his chest to save herself from what she expected a fall. The look on her face told that she was as surprised at his actions as much as Dean was.

"You have to answer my question, Maya. Why did you stop talking to me? What did I do?" He asked, holding her hand, pulling her closer, suddenly feeling angry by her distanced attitude.

"I...I am...I did not stop talking to you Dean. You were the one who stopped it. For the past 4 months since TJ arrived, how much did we talk, except going on missions, and in between the practice sessions? You stopped it. I don't blame you, TJ is a good person, and I love her, but I am not the only one to blame," Amaya said backing away, Dean could sense anger in her voice. Amaya was never angry.

"You're kidding me. We talked all the time," Dean pointed out, his grip on her hand loosened.

"No D, I was always there but it was always TJ you talked to. Everyone knows how much importance you give to her during the practice sessions. Even Mr. Morgan was impressed by her skills but TJ did not have his undivided attention. D, you like her. But don't you think that because of one person who just came in your life, you forgot everyone?" Amaya questioned and Dean opened his mouth to say something but he couldn't. Mr. Morgan, their main mentor told Dean to work on others too as much as he worked with TJ, now he knew why.

Amaya was right, he did forget about her when he was near TJ.

Amaya pulled away from her hand and Dean saw Amaya dialing a number, and then cut the call, suddenly a portal opened.

"I don't blame TJ, D. How can I? She was new and wanted friends and people to support her in a new place. But I can't blame you too. You are attracted to her. I just blame myself, maybe I wasn't a good friend. If I was better, if I was TJ, then maybe I might still have you," Amaya said before walking into the portal.

"Maya..." Dean tried to talk, but the portal vanished and Amaya with it.

Shit! What did he do? He lost the first real friend he made.

No, Amaya was still his friend, he didn't lose her. Not yet, not now, not ever. He has to get Amaya back, he has to get his best friend back.

Yes! That's what Amaya was to him, a best friend. Even though she was younger and childish, she always made him smile, supported him. When he missed his family, before Calista, Amaya had been there to cheer him up, and this had no relation to her powers.

Good lord! Dean thought, he has to confess to TJ, but first, he had to get his best friend, his Maya, back.

__

It was 8 in the evening, but there was no trace of Amaya or TJ. Everyone was there, Rafael, Asher and him. Why do the girls take so much time to get ready?

"Why do these girls take so much time to get ready?" Rafael complained stealing his thoughts as they sat on one of the tables as people danced.

"It's going to be worth it," Asher said, sipping his drink.

Asher was wearing black, but his was not a tux, he wore a white shirt beneath it, just like Dean. Asher wore a tie and not a bowtie like Dean and his hair was styled back unlike his side parting.

"Not for me. I'm going to find something to drink," Rafael said as he got up. Rafael was looking good too. He wore a white three piece suit, which was light gray in color. His tie was royal blue with white design. Rafael said Amaya got it for him, it was twin thing as she had the almost same colored dress.

At least he had a clue what color dress Amaya was wearing. He knew TJ's was white, she told him that. She wanted to show everyone her dress but Amaya stopped her.

Suddenly Asher's phone beeped, he had a smile on his face and got up. Dean looked at him with a questioning look.

"My girl is here," He said and walked towards the stairs, and stood at the last stair and looked up.

TJ appeared, not from her portal, but walked to the first stair. Dean's breath got stuck. TJ was looking gorgeous, she proved him wrong again.

She wasn't wearing a short dress, not even a long one. Not the gown, Amaya talked about. TJ wore a white well fitted overall which showed all her curves clearly. Over the overall suit, she wore a long embroidered jacket, or whatever the girls called it, which came to her ankles. It looked amazing on her, and the red lipstick she spotted on her pouty lips stole the show with her glossy curled hair.

TJ was slowly descending from the stairs and Dean saw why. She wore heeled sandals, TJ had very less experience in that department. TJ was smiling at Asher who looked at her like she was the only girl in the room, maybe the planet.

Dean smiled seeing them, he wasn't feeling hurt. He had prepared himself for the hurt when TJ chose Asher as her escort.

In the ball, the girls were supposed to be escorted by a guy at the end of the stairs and TJ chose Asher, but obviously. Amaya was to come with Rafael but both of them weren't in sight. Dean decided that he was better off without a partner.

As TJ and Asher reached their table, Dean smiled widely at her which TJ returned.

"You look beautiful" Dean complemented her and TJ smiled at him.

"Thank you. You don't look half bad yourself," TJ complemented back and Dean felt happy. "I see you kept the stubble. Looks amazing on you," TJ complemented and Dean nodded with a smile. That's what he did near TJ, smile.

"Where's Amaya?" Dean asked her and TJ looked at Asher with a smile and then looked at Dean.

"Just here," TJ said and looked up the stairs. Dean looked through the crowd for Rafael who was nowhere to be seen.

Suddenly, the people stopped dancing and doing what they were doing and looked at the top of the stairs. Dean followed everyone's gaze and he felt his breath hitch at what he saw.

On the top of the stairs stood the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Her glossy blonde hair was slick straight in a mid-parting and it reached her waist, her dainty shoulders were bare as she looked like a vision in the gray dress with pink flowers all over her ball gown. The bodice of her dress was filled with pink flowers making space for a plunging neckline making her look bold and beautiful. She looked like some princess, maybe she was.

There was only one problem, her green eyes were looking for someone as she descended the stairs slowly and gracefully. She looked worried and Dean looked and saw that there was no one standing at the bottom of the stairs for her.

How was that possible? No one to escort this beauty? Before he could understand, and before anyone could stop him, Dean was at the foot of the stairs. He saw her breathe out in relief, and brightly smile at Dean, he couldn't help but smile back.

He gave her his bicep which she took happily, and put her arm around it, smiling at Dean. Her look was grateful and happy.

"Thanks so much for saving me, Dean," The girl said, and Dean felt confused.

Had he told her his name?

"No problem, my lady," He said courteously and the girl laughed.

"Thanks, if you see Rafael, tell him to run because I am going to cut him into pieces and feed it to the mermaids, that boy is going down," The girl said through her gritted teeth as they began to walk. The other people resumed dancing again, not before eyeing the girl who had an arm wrapped around his hand.

"Rafael?" Dean asked, confused. She was Rafael's date, and he disappeared on her? Why would that idiot do something like that? And why was her voice familiar? Had he met her? How could he forget a face like this?

"Yes, I swear I'll kill that idiot. I thought I wasn't going to get an escort," The girl said as they made their way to the table Dean was previously sitting. But Dean got an idea.

Dean stopped and the girl looked at him with a questioning look.

"Would you like a dance?" Dean asked, extending his palm, and the girl smiled at him.

"Yes, of course," The girl said, removing her arm from his bicep and putting her hand in his.

Dean grinned as they made their way to the dance floor. Dean placed his right hand on her back as she kept hers on his shoulder and their left hands joined together.

Dean and the girl danced in sync. Their steps matched as if they were dancing together for ages and for a moment Dean forgot about his crush on TJ. It was just the girl and him.

"Did I tell you how beautiful you look?" Dean asked the girl who despite the makeup blushed like a tomato and shook her head. He bent enough so that he could reach her ear, "You look like a vision tonight," Dean said just above a whisper.

He heard the girl's breath hitch, and Dean smirked. So it wasn't just him who was attracted. Maybe she would be the best distraction he needed from TJ.

"Thank you," She said softly which reminded Dean of Amaya. She would talk in such a soft voice sometimes.

What the hell was he doing? Was he dancing with the most stunning in the room and thinking of Amaya? What was wrong with him?

"I thought I have to die to get a compliment from you," The girl joked and Dean looked at her with a bewildered look.

Why would she fetch for compliments from him? Dean wasn't blind, it's him who would have been following her and showering her with compliments.

The girl's face didn't even look like she had makeup on. Her eyes were defined with expert strokes of eyeliner, and her eyelashes were the longest he had ever seen. There was a natural blush on her cheeks, and her lips were covered in powder pink lipstick.

"It's I who must be dead to dance with an angel like you," Dean told her honestly and felt proud of himself when she blushed.

"You are such a flirt. I think I should start giving everyone lectures. It certainly worked for you. First escorting me and then dancing with me, talking to me, complimenting me. Who are you and what did you do with my Dean?" The girl asked and Dean creased his eyebrows.

Lecture? What did she mean by that?

"D?" The girl asked as the song stopped, and the two pulled away and bowed to each other like the others.

"Excuse me," Dean said and the girl nodded, he walked fast towards the men's room.

"D?"

'D', only Amaya called him D. As he reached the washroom Dean leaned in front of the sink and looked at himself.

"D" He muttered. Why didn't he get it before?

She gave him so many clues! Rafael was supposed to be Amaya's escort. Amaya could only threaten to cut someone into pieces and give it to the mermaids. The girl was obsessed with mermaids!

"Shit!" Dean said loudly, hitting the sink tile with his fist.

The girl not just sounded like Amaya, the girl was Amaya. He couldn't recognize her! He knew Amaya since he was 10, and he couldn't recognize her! How could he do that? She didn't even look like she had makeup on!

Dean was angry, how could he not see that the girl was Amaya? How could he be so stupid when TJ just said that Amaya was here, and he couldn't get it? How will Amaya react when she gets to know that Dean didn't recognize her, and was flirting with her because he thought she was someone else?

Amaya would be hurt and upset. No, he had to hide it. He couldn't let her know that he didn't recognize her.

With that thought, Dean calmed himself. He had to tell TJ everything today and get his best friend back without hurting her anymore.

"Let's get Maya back first," Dean told himself and went out of the men's room.

Dean walked up to their table and saw Amaya beating Rafael. He snickered, Rafael deserved it.

"Go, Amy, beat him black and blue" TJ was cheering her friend while Asher tried to separate them, but Amaya wasn't backing down.

"Can I get a bit of help here" Asher glared TJ who stuck out her tongue at him and started cheering Amaya who was hitting Rafael who was shouting pain, creating a scene.

Dean went from behind, and held Amaya's hands and pulled her away from her brother. Amaya turned with a glare but it turned into a look of surprise when she saw Dean.

"Don't kill him in public," Dean told her with an amused expression.

Amaya huffed and released her arms from Dean grasp, and looked at a scared looking Rafael.

"Thank him, if he wasn't there to save me, I would have become a laughing stock," Amaya told Rafael, her voice breaking a bit, and Dean understood that she was about to cry.

Dean wrapped an arm around Amaya's waist and she looked at him, her mouth slightly ajar, her eyes glassy from the tears inside and Dean wanted to laugh. No doubt she was confused, Dean never did anything like this for Amaya.

"Hush, tiger. I got you" Dean told her and Amaya nodded and Dean looked at Rafael with a pointed look. "Where were you?" He asked a scared looking Rafael.

"I went to get the punch, then I had to use the men's room but there was a crowd, and I had to wait. When I came back, you two were dancing" Rafael told him and Dean nodded.

"Thank god, Dean was there," TJ said looking at Amaya with a secret smile, making Amaya look at Dean's hand which was comfortably placed on her waist and blush.

Dean removed his hand from her waist, following TJ's eyes and rubbed the back of his head.

"Hey, Rafael!" A girl's voice distracted them and Dean looked at the owner of the voice which belonged to Miriam.

"Hey, Miriam!" Rafael greeted, "You look beautiful," He told her and the girl blushed.

"Thanks. I was wondering if you would like a dance?" She asked and Rafael's eyes widened at first but he nodded, extending his hand towards her as she took it, and they both went towards the dance floor. Rafael looked at his friends with wide eyes, and TJ gave him two thumbs up as he disappeared between the dancing people.

"Say what Annie, care for a dance?" Asher asked extending a hand, and TJ took it without losing a beat.

"Let's show them human skills," TJ joked and Asher pulled her to himself as they went towards the dance floor.

"They are so cute," Amaya gushed as she saw Asher pulling TJ closer than they are supposed to be while they swayed gracefully.

"You are much cuter," Dean said honestly. He didn't want to say that he admitted that TJ and Asher looked good together. Why was he so confused?

"Mister Dean Moriarty, what is up with you?" Amaya asked him and Dean's attention towards his best friend.

"Nothing. Another dance?" Dean asked and Amaya nodded as he stood up extending a hand which Amaya took.

The beats turned fast as they reached the floor. Dean and Amaya swayed faster with the beats of the song. He twirled her as Amaya giggled.

"What happened to you?" Amaya asked Dean as they swayed fast, her arm on his shoulder, his on her back.

"I just realized something," Dean told her.

"What?" She asked.

"That we haven't we done our Maya and D special yet," Dean smirked and Amaya gave him a wicked smile.

"Maya and D all the way," Amaya said as they both parted before Dean kept his right hand on Amaya's waist and Amaya put her hand on his chest. Their other hands tucked back.

Maya and D was a one hand salsa Amaya and Dean started by mistake while the Annual Iiliria Day Ball, 3 years back when Amaya broke her arm. Since then, it's their dance.

Dean's left hand held Amaya's right as they swayed and danced. Soon the whole dance floor stood as they cheered Dean and Amaya. All of a sudden Asher and TJ joined them, with two hands of course.

Nobody could dance with one hand at a time with like Dean and Amaya. The music changed to salsa music as the two couples danced. When Amaya smiled her special smile at Dean, he knew he got back his best friend. Now all he had to do was keep her, and never let her go.

When the music stopped, the four of them were out of breath as the crowd clapped.

Asher and TJ walked towards Amaya and Dean with smiles on their face as the other couples came on the dance floor.

"Amy, may I have this dance?" Asher asked Amaya who grinned and took Asher's hand.

"Why don't you guys dance too?" Asher suggested, and Dean understood that Asher was giving them space so Dean could confess his feelings for TJ.

"Sure. May I have this dance, good sir?" TJ asked extending her hand and Dean laughed but held her hand.

It felt different touching her, there was a static and a giddy feeling when Dean touched TJ. As they both swayed to the slow beats of the song Dean decided to be done and over with this.

"TJ, I wanted to talk to you since the evening," Dean told her and TJ looked confused.

"What's up?" TJ asked him.

"The thing is TJ...since you came four months ago...well since the day I saw you..." Dean stuttered.

"You thought I was weird?" TJ asked jokingly.

"What?" He asked and TJ shrugged, "No, it's the opposite. I think you are special. I think you are this amazing person who is full of love and affection for everyone around her. I think you are super talented and not only because you have unique powers, but because you can make an unloving person into a caring one in a second. You made Alastair your Grandpa when no one called him anything other than his name. I think you are beautiful in and out. I think you are the most beautiful girl I know," Dean told her truthfully as he heard TJ gasp and her eyes widened in surprise. Her grip on his shoulder and hand loosened but Dean kept it tight.

"I really like you TJ. I swear I do. I have since the day I collided with you, and I can't deny my feelings for you anymore. I know you love Asher, I just wanted to tell you," Dean told TJ who looked shocked and stunned more than anything.

Did she really not see?

"Dean...oh my god," TJ murmured. "Can you leave me, please," TJ asked and Dean thought his heart couldn't break more at the moment.

"TJ please," Dean pleaded and TJ shook her head furiously.

"Dean, let me go," TJ told him, trying to back away.

"TJ, listen to me. Don't go away," Dean begged and TJ stood still as she looked at him.

"Dean...you can't like me. I love Asher," TJ told him in a helpless voice.

"But I do, TJ. I liked you when I didn't know Asher existed, and I like you when I can see Asher. I not sorry for liking you TJ," Dean told her, a determination in his voice.

"You have to move on then. We can be friends after you move on, Dean but I'm sorry. I will always choose Asher. Not because he's good looking or perfect. But because I love him, even with his flaws. He has been my friend, my partner in crime, my mother, my father, everything. I can't live without him, believe me, I've tried. I'm sorry Dean but it will always be Asher," TJ told him. Her voice soft, and calm but helplessness and pity in her eyes.

"I understand, I know you can never be mine. But let me do something before I back off forever," Dean said after a moment.

"What?" TJ asked hesitantly.

"This," Dean said and sealed TJ's lips with his. Their lips met just for some seconds when TJ pulled away and pushed Dean harshly as her eyes widened. She raised her hand and punched Dean straight in the stomach and Dean groaned in pain.

Before TJ could hit him again Asher held her hand before she could create a scene, and whispered something into her ear which made TJ turn, and she ran out of the room with Amaya.

"I told you it won't be yours, or my heart that would be broken tonight," Asher told Dean and he looked at Asher with confusion.

"I broke TJ's heart, didn't I? I shouldn't have kissed her. I'm sorry Asher," Dean apologized, looking at the tiled floor.

"It's not me you have to apologize to, Moriarty," Asher said and Dean nodded.

As they both made their way out of the ballroom to find TJ and Amaya, a loud boom roared through the walls of the school, and the Earth shook.

"Annie!"

"Maya!"
