In Arizona
Sixty miles from Flagstaff
My thumb stuck out again
Hadn't seen a soul in an hour
My collar high against the wind
By and by they came along
Said they'd take me to town
The man was kind, his daughter shy
And her eyes were golden brown
I got lucky once
In Arizona
We drove straight through to Phoenix
Arriving there at dusk
To a broken down old campground
Full of dogs and trucks and dust
They let me use their only tent
Said they'd sleep in the car
The sky was clear and black as coal
And filled with falling stars
I got lucky once
In Arizona
In the morning at breakfast
They shared their jam and toast
They were going to New Mexico
And I was headed for the coast
Before they left she came around
And brought a thermos to me
Some food for the road and a kiss for luck
And a smile that set me free
I got lucky once
In Arizona
