[9] Deja Vu
THE END OF THE HEARTFILIA-DRAGNEEL RIVALRY?
Anyone in Magnolia knows of the infamous rivalry between Jude Heartfilia and Igneel Dragneel, two of the most powerful and richest businessmen in all of Fiore. Heartfilia is the CEO of Heartfilia Corporations, the business regulating the trades in and out of the city. Dragneel is the CEO of ENDragneel Inc., the business regulating the resources in all of the city. As these men are two presidents of the two businesses Magnolia relies the most on, it's no wonder they don't have the best of relationships.
However, can it be possible for Lucy Heartfilia, only daughter of Jude Heartfilia, and Natsu Dragneel, youngest son of Igneel Dragneel, to break this decade-long feud?
Reports show that yesterday, young Dragneel and young Heartfilia . . .
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?" Jude Heartfilia angrily slammed the newspaper onto his desk. Lucy stood in front of him quietly, face bowed to the ground. "Why am I waking up to reporters at my gate, begging for an interview with my daughter, who is supposedly Natsu Dragneel's girlfriend? SAY SOMETHING, YOU DUMB GIRL!"
"I'm sorry, Father," Lucy said, not daring to lift her head. "I do not know how this got started. The rumor is not true. Dragneel and I are not --"
"It is not a matter of whether it is the truth or not," Jude interrupted, banging his hands on top of his desk. "Do you think people reading this article will think, 'Hm, there's no saying that this is true. Perhaps the newspaper is just making this up'? These people will consider anything in the newspapers to be a fact!"
"I'm sorry, Father," Lucy repeated, digging her fingernails into the palms of her hands. "I will find a way to make this right --"
"How? How will you fix this? By speaking to them? By telling them that it is all a lie?"
Lucy bit her lip. She had heard people talking in school the day before, but she hadn't actually expected someone to tell this to the press. Having unlimited money was good and all, but this was one of the countless reasons as to why Lucy hated being the daughter of a famous person.
Jude eventually assumed Lucy's silence to be of defeat, and thus suggested his own proposal. "By Monday, you'll be sitting in that new school I was telling you about. Sabertooth."
Lucy snapped her head up, making eye contact with her father. "You can't do that!" she said, panicked. "You're already making me stay home today. I can't just leave!"
"What good will you have by staying in that dumb school?" Jude countered. "You are only a sophomore. You have two years to make new friends. Good friends. I heard the Eucliffes and Cheneys are sending their sons there."
"And . . . what do those two have to do with my entrance in Sabertooth, which will not be happening?"
"I am sure you have met Sting and Rogue at a few of our social gatherings. You've seen how they are, how much they show more . . . potential than others," her father worded. "And you will be attending Sabertooth, whether you like it or not."
Lucy narrowed her eyes at her father. "I will not be leaving Fairy Tail Prep, whether it is to Sabertooth Academy or Lamia Scale of the Humanities or any other school." Lucy felt a sudden sense of deja vu as she watched her father stare at her in shock.
"I have attended that school since I was six. Fairy Tail was the first school I had ever attended, and you will not be taking me out just one year before I graduate." Lucy suddenly considered ripping the top of her pink dress, but realized she wasn't wearing a dress.
"If you wanted to graduate from that school, you should have listened to my warnings and stayed away from Dragneel's son. And if I want, I can take you out of that school one year before you graduate. And I will. As the daughter of Jude Heartfilia, it is your job to do what is right --"
"It is right for me to stay in Fairy Tail!" Lucy interrupted.
"If you keep acting against me, I will cut off your credit card --"
"Cut it off!" Lucy interrupted again. "What I want isn't money, pretty dresses, or fortunes piled upon me." I'm not Lucky Lucy of Heartfilia anymore! Fairy Tail recognizes me as just Lucy and my other family; it's a far more loving family than this. Lucy blinked at the words that popped into her head. She had seen herself wearing a half-ripped, old-fashioned pink dress with a pink smudge on her right hand.
"I'm not bluffing. I will cut it all off." Her father's stern voice reminded Lucy to focus on the present. "From now on, you won't be receiving a single cent of my money, even when I die. But I will still enroll you into Sabertooth, as I am still your guardian, and I have the right to do what is best for you, even if you don't deserve it."
"I wonder what Mother would say." Lucy didn't need to look into her father's eyes to see his shock. "I wonder who she would agree with. You, someone who's trying to control my life; or me, someone who's trying to move along and do what I desire." Her father didn't reply, only blinking at her with stunned eyes.
Lucy smirked to herself victoriously. She hated using the Mom card, but she knew it would be the only way to get her father to see things differently. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I must get going. Capri and Cancere have said the reporters finally left, so if I leave now, I'll be able to attend Third Period without being late." Without waiting for a reply, not expecting one, Lucy turned around and marched out of her father's study.
"Miss Lucy, I do not believe going to school today is a wise choice," Capri said urgently to Lucy as she finally got the chance to reply to her friends' texts. "There are no reporters here, but there may be some at the school. Today is Friday, which means --"
"-- I definitely can't miss today," Lucy finished for the worried butler. "Look, whatever you're worried about, don't be. I can handle things on my own. I may look weak, but I am a lot stronger than I appear to be."
Capri sighed. "This is one trait of Miss Layla's you have also earned. Stubbornness. At least allow me to give you a ride."
Lucy frowned, but eventually gave in. Why not? Truth be told, she was slightly worried about what she should do if there were reporters at the school.
"If I may ask, Miss Lucy," Capri said once they were both in the car. "Why are you so intent on going today? Is it just a rebellious side against your father?"
"Um, I suppose so," Lucy replied, leaning her head against the back of her seat. "It's one of the reasons, anyways." She also just didn't want to stay bored at home, thought showing up would make the reporters think she was unaffected by the rumors that weren't true, and wanted to strangle Natsu Dragneel.
How the hell did people even come up with this idea? All throughout yesterday, she had heard people whispering about the most ridiculous situations, her friends kindly supplying her with more theories she had yet to hear.
The most illogical theory she had heard was that she and Dragneel had been fraternal twins separated at birth, and they were dreaming about the incident. Firstly, Lucy wondered if this wasn't illegal, if this thought coincided with what the newspapers had said. Secondly, she and Dragneel didn't share the same birthday, she had seen her birth certificate, and Dragneel looked like absolutely nobody in her family tree. Thirdly, it was impossible for people to remember incidents from when they were younger than young.
Some of the more believable comments had been that she and Dragneel had a crush on each other, they had been dating each other since before they could talk, they had been put in an arranged marriage before they were even born, and that he dreamed about her.
This last one really threw Lucy off. It was the fourth reason as to why she wanted to go to school; she wanted to find Dragneel and ask him about that dream he had talked about when they were in Detention on Wednesday. Oh, and the fifth reason: she couldn't miss out on detention.
But back to the previous reason, Lucy had tried to figure out what the dreams had meant. She had decided to write down every dream in detail, in order to find some connection to each other. If Dragneel also had these dreams, perhaps she could find out even more. She was so ready to try and figure out what the dreams meant, but she hadn't dreamed about anything last night. Perhaps she should write about what she saw while she was conferring with her father earlier. . . .
At the mere thought of Jude Heartfilia, Lucy automatically fell into a sour mood. Honestly, who cared if a school had a high ranking? And even if her father did care, Fairy Tail was still in the Top 7. Surely that had to count for something.
"Miss Heartfilia!" A sudden banging against Lucy's car door window made her jump back in fright.
"Damn reporters," Capri muttered through his teeth. "Aren't you glad I offered to come with you, Miss Lucy?" he asked as he sped up to try and avoid the running crowd of reporters.
"I must say, Capri, it's a lot worse than I imagined it to be," Lucy admitted, daring to look out the one-way tinted windows. Considering the car was a Porsche, and Lucy thought Capri was going over the speed limit, the reporters these days were in pretty good shape.
"Miss Lucy, do you still wish to be in school today?" Capri asked. "As much as I would like to, I cannot be with you for the entire day. Also, we are currently on the road headed to the Heartfilia mansion.
Lucy's head snapped up to glare at Capri through the mirror. "What? No, make a U-turn and get back there, but where the reporters aren't there."
Her butler-chauffeur grimaced, but he still turned around. "I shall head for the back of Fairy Tail Low," Capri told Lucy. "I don't believe they will be around the lower grades."
"Thank you, Capri," she said sincerely, smiling at him. "It's you and the others back home who have stopped me from leaving the place already."
Capri smiled too, which didn't happen often. "We just love our job and the family we serve," he said. "Now, should I be back to pick you up once school is over?"
"Oh, I'm actually ending a little late, today," Lucy said. "I, um, have detention, see." She knew it would be safe to tell Capri, as he was nowhere near as close to her father as he was to Lucy.
There was silence for a moment, before Capri finally nodded. "It happens to all of us, Miss Lucy," he said. "It remember once, when me and the others attended Celestial, our old high school, Scor would always get detention for being with his girlfriend, A--"
"Thank you, Capri, but I don't think I need the details," Lucy intervened before she could imagine something unpleasant to the eye.
Soon, the car stopped.
"Miss Lucy, we have arrived," Capri announced before getting out of the car and opening the door next to Lucy.
"Send the others my thanks as well," Lucy told him as she got out.
"Of course. Should I wait here, later?"
Lucy nodded. "If you could, it would be great." She waved bye to one of the people she trusted the most before taking off into the school. She couldn't see any reporters around, but she couldn't be too sure. It would be just her luck to run into someone as soon as Capri left.
"Ow, watch it!"
Yep, it was most definitely her luck.
A/N:
Capri is Capricorn, Cancere is Cancer, Scor is Scorpio. The "others" are probably the rest of the unmentioned Zodiac spirits Lucy have.
