(8) Thanks, Gray
"Look, Natsu!" A girl ran up behind the boy. "I've got the Fairy Tail mark!"
"Oh, yeah? That's great, Luigi."
"LUCY!" she suddenly yelled.
"Hey, was that always on our school?" Natsu asked Gray and Gajeel as they walked into the school. He pointed at a symbol on a banner hanging from the school.
"I've been here for less than you have, and even I remember it," Gajeel snickered. "They even sell necklaces and stuff at the school store with that charm on it."
"Oh? And how would you know that?" Gray asked. "I didn't know you were the type to shop in school stores."
As Gajeel fumbled to come up with a reply to Gray's bantering, Natsu thought quietly about the dream.
The Heartfilia in the dream had the same pink symbol on her right hand, and him in the dream also had the symbol on his right shoulder, but it was a blood red. Also, dream-Heartfilia had called it "the Fairy Tail mark." All of the clothes and uniforms had the mark on one corner of the clothes, and they looked pretty similar.
"You're making that face you make when you think. I suggest you don't overdo it; your brain isn't used to the overload."
"Shut it, Ice Princess!"
"What did you call me, Ash-for-Brains?"
"I called you Elsa, damn it! What, got a problem with your hearing, too?"
"You can't tell me this happens every day, or I'm walking right back out of here."
Natsu and Gray both turned in shock to face someone they didn't expect. "Jellal?" they both said in unison. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"I have been asking myself the exact same question ever since I opened my eyes this morning. Are you used to waking up at 6 in the morning? Because I'm not." Ignoring Natsu's, Gray's, and Gajeel's open mouths, he strode past them to head for First Period.
"Jellal? Is that you?" Ms. Na, one of the student teachers for Fairy Tail Low, said, stepping in front of Jellal.
"Cubellious?"
Natsu, Gray, and Gajeel fell into a new shock at the way Jellal referred to Ms. Na. It was true that she was only one year older than him, but they didn't think he would be close enough to call her by her first name. Wait . . .
"Your name is Cubellious?" Natsu asked Ms. Na stupidly. "I thought it was Kina, or something."
Gajeel and Gray quickly slapped the back of his head. "You don't call teachers by their first names, even if they are only two years older than us," they hissed, but Ms. Na didn't seem to have heard Natsu, and was staring at Jellal instead.
Jellal blinked rapidly. "Um, sorry," he said quickly, wincing as if someone was yelling in his ear. "You just looked like someone I know." Then he ran away, mumbling something under his breath.
Ms. Na blinked at where he used to stand, then seemed to remember that Natsu, Gray, and Gajeel were still standing there. "Can I help you three?" she asked, smiling as if nothing weird had just happened.
"N--"
"How do you know Jellal?" Natsu interrupted Gajeel.
"Oh, I had met him outside of school a few times," she said casually. "Now, get going. The bell will ring in seven minutes." Ms. Na quickly walked away before either three of them could respond.
"I wonder what that was about," Gray commented as he and Natsu separated from Gajeel, who had Music.
"Now I have something else to think about," Natsu grumbled. "I was already having issues with the dreams, but now I'm going to be thinking about Jellal and Ms. Na, too."
"Yeah, I wonder wh-- wait." Gray glanced suspiciously at Natsu. "You're having issues with dreams? Like what?"
Natsu groaned. He hated to admit it, but sometimes, he wasn't the smartest kid in the school.
"It's nothing," he said to Gray. "Forget I said it."
"Well, now I have to know. Tell me. What did you dream about; you starving to death? I wonder that could mean. . . ."
"For your information, it had nothing to do with food. It was just me and Heartfilia, okay?" It took Natsu a few minutes to realize what he had just told Gray.
"Oh. Whoops."
"You dreamed about Heartfilia?" Gray asked loudly. "What did you two do?"
"Shut up!" Natsu hissed, but it was too late. The people around them had heard what Gray had said, and Natsu could hear the whispers around them.
"A Dragneel dreamed about a Heartfilia? No way."
"I wonder what kind of dream it was."
"From the looks of it, they didn't kill each other, that's for sure. Natsu doesn't look too happy about dreaming about her."
"Hm, maybe it was an erotic dream? He is a guy, after all."
"SHUT UP AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!" Natsu yelled at the guy closest to him.
"A man does not yell at a man who did nothing," he snapped at Natsu. "The girls are over there."
"Oh." Natsu tried to look casual about yelling at the wrong person. "Sorry about that, Elfman. Um, no need to tell Mira about this, right? "
Elfman was the second of the three Strauss siblings -- Mira, him, and Lisanna -- and they were all pretty close. Mira was generally a sweet person, but she could seriously turn into a she-demon if she wanted to.
Instead of giving a clear response, Elfman just walked away, shaking his head.
"Now see what you've done," Natsu hissed at Gray as the whispers surrounded them again. "If my name comes out in the newspapers, I swear I will kill you."
"Oh, please," Gray scoffed. "You can barely touch me."
"Is that a challenge, Stripper?"
"Why not, Pyro?"
"Natsu! Gray! Wait up!"
Natsu and Gray both turned to face Lisanna, who was running towards them. Although she was a sophomore, they still had Anatomy together.
"Now, what's this I hear about you dreaming about Lucy?"
Natsu gaped at his childhood friend. "You heard that quickly?" he asked in disbelief. "I don't think it's even been three minutes yet."
"I heard people talking about it on my way here," she said casually, pointing in the direction she had come from. "And you know how many people have phones in this school."
"All, most likely."
"You're not helping, Gray!"
"Why should I help you?"
"Because you got me into this mess in the first place! You screamed that I dreamed about Lucy, didn't you? No one would have found out if you hadn't spoken so loudly," Natsu said loudly.
"Oh my god, so it is true! They are secret lovers!"
Natsu turned backwards and saw a haggle of girls with their fingers flying across the screen of their phones. One girl even had her phone aimed at Natsu.
"Hey, put that phone down," Natsu growled, pointing at the girl with violet hair and glasses. "And delete whatever you just took of me."
The girl put her phone down, but smirked and played with her glasses as she did so. "The dam of shy love is a violent approach. A wood wall makes the distance between the two forever. Sculpture the heart's sense of distance."
Natsu was very confused, and he could tell Gray and Lisanna were, too. "The dam of shy love is what and what?" he asked. "Is this a riddle?"
The girls around the girl who had spoken giggled. "Come on, Laki," one with a yellow cat hat said. "We don't have time for this. Remember?"
"Laki" smirked at the girl before looking back at Natsu. "Of course," she said, going back to her phone. "Good thing I brought my charger."
"This school holds some of the weirdest people I have ever met," Lisanna said after the group left. "I think they're all a bunch of seniors in Mira-nee's year."
"Who cares what grade they're in?" Natsu said, snapping out of his confusion. "I should've taken that girl's phone and done something."
"Actually, I think it was a good idea to leave them alone," Gray said casually from the back. "If that girl was Laki Olietta . . ." Gray laughed.
Natsu frowned. "Laki Olietta?" he repeated. The name sounded familiar.
"You know, the senior who's always obsessed with old torture machines and hates perverts," Lisanna said helpfully.
"Oh, so she hates people like Gray?"
"I'm not a pervert!"
"Who's the one who stripped in front of everyone?"
"That was one time! And who's the one who had weird dreams about Heartfilia?"
As Lisanna watched awkwardly as Natsu and Gray stood with their foreheads matched against each other, Natsu suddenly saw themselves in a large room, with his hands engulfed in flames and Gray's hands engulfed in ice.
"What the hell?" Natsu jumped back in surprise at what he had just envisioned. At the same moment, the bell rang, causing Lisanna's eyes to widen.
"Oh, no! We're going to be late!"
Before Natsu or Gray could say they didn't care about that, Lisanna grabbed their sleeves and started running to their class.
"Wait, hold on!" Natsu protested as he got dragged along. "Me and Gray have feet, you know. We can walk for ourselves."
"But it's Mr. Rocko," Gray said as he allowed Lisanna to carry him along. "And I swear he can read our minds sometimes. I was once thinking about sticking my gum under the desk, and he told me to do it in the garbage can."
"Why would he tell you to stick the gum inside of your head?"
"I swear, Dragneel, as soon as Lisanna lets me go, I'm going to tear you to pieces."
As soon as Gray growled those words, Lisanna dropped their sleeves, causing Natsu and Gray to both crash to the floor.
"Natsu, Gray, Lisanna, you're late."
"By only a minute," Natsu defended, getting up and pointing at the clock. "See?"
"One minute can save your life," Gray snapped at Natsu. "You could get out of a life-or-death situation in 60 seconds, either the good way or the bad."
"Who's side are you on?"
"I'm on my side."
"Oh yes, please continue fighting like I'm not standing right in front of you guys," a flat tone said, making Natsu step away from Gray.
"Don't be too mad, Mr. Rocko," someone said from inside the classroom. "Natsu's just mad because Gray told everyone about how Natsu likes Lucy."
"Yeah, I --" Natsu stopped, comprehending what Loke had just said. "What the hell is wrong with you?" he yelled, running inside of the classroom to face the playboy. "Who told you I like Heartfilia? Stop mixing your feelings with mine." As he said these words, he suddenly saw himself gently rubbing his forehead against a crying Lucy, but he quickly dismissed the image.
Loke smirked, stroking the hair of the girl sitting next to him. "I'd say the news are making its way to the press, by now. The Heartfilia-Dragneel rivalry is a pretty popular topic in Magnolia. I bet everyone will eagerly soak up the Heartfilia-Dragneel romance. I can see the headline now," Loke raised his hands in a theatrical way. "Unrequited Love: The Possible Beginning to the End of the Heartfilia-Dragneel Rivalry."
Before Natsu could think of a hot comeback, Mr. Rocko spoke up. "Must I remind you that you're in a classroom? Where you are meant to learn?"
Honestly, Natsu had forgotten. He turned around to face Mr. Rocko with his innocent smile. "Sorry," he said, "but I have to set this rumor straight." Dropping the smile, he jumped onto the teacher's desk.
"All of you, listen up!" he roared at the class, who stared at him in stunned silence. "I -- do not -- like -- Lucy -- Heartfilia. And I never will!" He spotted someone aiming a phone at him again, but he didn't mind this time. "Yeah, spread this around, not that dumb crap you people are lying about."
"And this is where I stop you, pretend to scold you when you won't even pay attention, and have you take your seat." Mr. Rocko only glared at Natsu as he said this, but it made Natsu want to get down from the table and sit in his seat as quickly as possible. Which he did.
"Now, let us finally begin the class. Fourteen minutes after the bell rang."
Natsu leaned back in his seat as Mr. Rocko began talking about the human mind. He glanced at his right, and saw Gray taking his sweater off. Thinking back, Natsu remembered that Gray was half-naked in the scenario he had seen before the bell rang. He, too, had the mark of Fairy Tail on him, thought it was black, and was on his right pectoral.
Throughout the entire class, Natsu had only thought: What did the dreams mean?
A/N:
Ms. Na is Kinana, and Mr. Rocko is Warren.
Also, I just thought of Jellal's background for this (since he's technically not part of Fairy Tail), and I am super psyched to write it. Also, I added Loke because he still technically had/has the Fairy Tail mark.
