[3] Gossi-- Tutoring With Wendy

"Ugh, that Natsu Dragneel. I swear, I'm going to kill him one day," Lucy grumbled under her breath in Art.

"Now, now, let's be civil here." Lisanna Strauss, younger sister of Mira, was Lucy's Art buddy, mainly because she was the only person Lucy had actually talked to before the first day. Although they were both born in the same year, Lisanna had started school late, due to her leaving for a few years, meaning she was a sophomore, not that Lucy minded.

"Lisanna, that hothead spit in my hair. He's lucky I had Pool Gym next so I could shower, or I swear I would've punched his face in."

Lisanna giggled. "You have to admit, though. Natsu's kind of cute."

Lucy dropped her pencil and reached over to grab her friend's shoulders. "Lisanna," she said seriously. "Did you or did you not tell me that you preferred girls?"

"Even so, it doesn't mean I can't find guys attractive," Lisanna said, blushing and looking away.

"Oh, so now he's attractive, too? Exactly which part, his two-digit IQ?" Lucy asked sarcastically, dropping her hands in defeat. "Seriously, I don't know what you, and a lot of other girls, apparently, see in him. Especially you."

"You two, I know this is your last class of the day, but less talking, more drawing, oui?"

"Sorry, Mr. Jonah," Lisanna said out loud to their teacher before dropping her voice. "Don't worry, Lucy. I can just tell you two are made for each other. In fact, Mira nee-san said --"

"-- anyone who thinks me and Natsu can have a tolerant relationship with each other, let alone a dating one, is totally psycho," Lucy said, waving her pencil at Lisanna. "Like, what sane person would think that? Um, no offense," she added when she realized she had just insulted her friend and her sister.

Lisanna just shrugged, smiling. "Actually, you'd be surprised."

Before Lucy could ask what she meant, Mr. Jonah came over again.

"Lisanna, nice work so far. Lucy, um," Mr. Jonah struggled to come up with something for Lucy's practically clean paper, "let's try to be a little more . . . focused next time, oui?"

Lucy forced a smile. "Sure. Oui." When Mr. Jonah turned away, she dropped her smile, sighing, but still began working on her classwork.

"Hey, what are you drawing, anyway?" Lisanna asked.

"Huh?" Lucy looked down at her half-drawn paper. "Um, it's just the Zodiac constellations. I don't know why, but it was the first thing that came to mind when Mr. Jonah told us to draw something we could relate to."

"How do you relate to a bunch of stars?" Lisanna asked curiously, though she still giggled in amusement. "Were you a star in your past life? And I mean a literal star, not a celebrity," Lisanna added when she saw Lucy smirk.

"Well, how do you relate to a bunch of animals?" Lucy countered playfully, gesturing to the cat Lisanna was in the middle of drawing. "Were you an animal in your past life? Oh wait, you already are one."

The two girls laughed before going back to their drawings. As Lucy began drawing the constellation of Virgo, she suddenly imagined a pink-haired female in a maid's outfit with broken handcuffs on her wrists, dancing weirdly with a straight face.

Ugh, spending more time with Dragneel is making me hallucinate weird things now, Lucy thought bitterly. She shook the strange visual out of her head and resumed drawing.

"You're late!"

Lucy grinned at the cheeky twelve year-old. "No, you're early," she said in the same teasing voice. "And besides, you young people get out earlier."

"Actually, we got out at the same time as you old people today," Wendy replied.

Lucy rolled her eyes playfully, smiling. "Yeah, okay. This old person here will now tell you to take your book out so we can start your math homework."

"And what if I told you I didn't have any math homework?"

"Then I would tell you I also had Mr. Conbolt when I was your age, and I remember how he gave me homework every day." Lucy laughed when she saw Wendy make a face. "Besides, if you do the homework now, you won't have to do it later. It's bad to procrastinate. Look at me; I never procrastinate, so my life is pretty easy-going."

Wendy raised an eyebrow, though she still took her book out. "Didn't you tell me how you barely had any time to finish an English project due the next day when you had two weeks to do it?"

"Okay, so what're you learning again? Solving for x with fractions?" Lucy asked loudly, much to Wendy's amusement.

That day, they finished going over everything much faster than usual, so they had time to gossip.

"So, how are things going with your boyfriend?" Lucy asked teasingly.

Wendy turned red, looking away. "He's not my boyfriend," she said stubbornly. "Besides, I don't think he even knows my last name."

"You don't know that, he might marvel about it from time to time. . . ." Lucy laughed when she saw Wendy facepalm at her totally awesome pun. "Okay, but anyways, things would be so much easier for both of us if you told me his name."

"You don't have to know his name," Wendy said. "I still don't even know how you found out I liked somebody."

It actually hadn't been that hard, considering Wendy always doodled hearts all over her notebook and workbook pages, but Lucy wasn't going to tell her that. She patted the young girl's hand soothingly. "There, there," she said in a motherly tone. "What's done is done. Now just tell me the name of the guy." Despite all the hearts, Wendy had been clever enough to never write anything that would lead to her mystery crush, such as an initial or other.

"No."

After taking a look at Wendy's serious face, Lucy knew she would have to find another way to get Wendy to tell her. Then, she thought of an idea. It had a little flaws, but it would probably work.

"You know, you're not the only person I tutor," she said. "On Thursdays, there's this guy who I help with English. He talks about you a lot." In all honesty, Romeo, who also happened to be Wendy's math teacher's son, had never mentioned Wendy's name -- or any girl's name -- even once, but Wendy didn't need to know that.

The blue-haired girl raised her head slightly. "Really? What's his name?"

Lucy smirked. The girl was trying to act uninterested, but it was obvious she was dying to know. "If you tell me the name of who you like, I'll tell you the name of who likes you."

Wendy frowned, looking away. "Never mind, then. I don't care who he is. I don't need to know."

"Oh really?" Lucy took a look around the room. "Oh look, there he is," she lied, pointing at the sleepy librarian.

"Seriously? Where?" Wendy whipped her head around so fast, the ends of her pigtails caused Lucy's own hair to fly up. When Wendy realized she had been tricked, she turned back around slowly, sighing.

"So you do care," Lucy teased, leaning in closely. "Now come on, tell me. I know a lot of the kids in your grade, I could ask him how he feels about you."

Wendy stared at her suspiciously. "You're not going to tell him outright that I like him, right?" she asked. "And you're not going to tell anyone else?"

Lucy shook her head seriously. "I would never," she said, meaning it. "If you're too embarrassed, just write his name down for me."

"If I tell you who it is, will you tell me the name of the guy who you said likes me?"

"Um, sure, but you can't act weirdly around him." Hopefully, Wendy had no idea who Romeo was.

"Okay." Wendy hunched over in her seat as she wrote his name on the back of her notebook. "Here."

Not bothering to hide her grin, Lucy reached over to read the name on the sheet of paper, and the smile dropped instantly.

Romeo Conbolt.

What were the freaking odds.

"So, what's the name of the guy who likes me?" Wendy asked, leaning into Lucy.

Crap. "Uh, Miles Umber," Lucy lied, coming up with a random name. She began to regret her idea, as it turned out to have a lot more flaws than she had imagined.

"Really?" Wendy frowned. "Hm, I've never heard of anybody with that name. Are we in the same grade?"

"No," Lucy said quickly. "He's in, um, fifth grade. One below you. But let's not talk about him. You're interested in Conbolt's offspring, eh?"

"Sh! Not so loud! Someone might hear you." At that moment, however, the bell rang, so nobody around them heard.

"Um, I'll see you next week, Lucy-san," Wendy said, getting up quickly. "Thanks for helping me today. Bye!" Wendy speed-walked out of the library, causing a small smile to appear on Lucy's face, although it got even smaller when Lucy remembered the lie she had told Wendy.

Hopefully, she doesn't try to figure out who Miles Umber is, Lucy thought as she also walked out of the library.

Still, as Lucy got into her car, her smile widened again at the thought of Wendy and Romeo together. Of course, in her opinion, twelve was too young to be in a romantic relationship, but they would join the upper level of Fairy Tail Prep in two years.

Once home, Lucy headed straight for her room, not that there was anyone to stop her. The gardener's break was on Wednesdays, and the other workers had no reason to bump into Lucy unless they intended to. Her father was always busy with work, only speaking with Lucy to make sure she didn't hang out with "that Dragneel demon spawn or any useless gold diggers." The McGardens, Scarlets, and Locksers had not received the Jude Heartfilia's stamp of approval, not that this stopped Lucy from being friends with them. Her father already controlled a large part of her life; she didn't need him deciding who she hung out with, as well.

Once in her room, Lucy began her daily ritual of changing into comfortable clothes, throwing her bag on top of her chair, jumping onto her bed, and turning her laptop on. Just because she was a rich heiress didn't meant she had to act or dress like one all the time.

Ignoring the homework she had received that day, Lucy began working on her novel. It was the story of an immortal girl who kept falling in love with the reincarnated version of the same man for many centuries, and Lucy was proud of how it was going, so far.

While writing, Lucy tried to imagine what her own past life would've been like. Only a few seconds later, she shook the idea out of her head. She didn't know if she actually believed in the idea of past lives, and she couldn't imagine a different version of her, anyways. Forgetting imagining what her previous life would be like, Lucy went back to typing.

A/N:

Yeah, I don't ship Bixanna. #sorrynotsorry

But, I am sorry to those who believe in reincarnation and past lives; I didn't mean any offense. If I did, I'm sorry. 😣
Also sorry if this chapter seemed a bit boring and short. The detention will take place either next chapter, or the chapter after.

BTW, in case you didn't know, Mr. Jonah (the Art teacher) is Reedus, and Mr. Conbolt  (Wendy's Math teacher) is Macao.
