[13] Going Home
"Lucy, will you be okay going home?" Levy asked worryingly. "Should we wait with you?"
"Thanks, but I think it'll be okay," Lucy assured her friend. "Capri's on his way, and the reporters are gone."
"Juvia wonders why Lucy wants her friends to leave," Juvia said casually from the side. "Juvia did see Natsu Dragneel separate from her Gray-sama and Gajeel. Gray-sama. . . ."
"After all, she did dream about telling him she loved him," Erza sang from the side. "Maybe she's about to tell him in real life."
Lucy gave her friends a look. "Keep your voices down," she hissed. "You don't know what bugs reporters might have placed."
"We're still inside the school," Levy pointed out. "They weren't even allowed in here."
"One of the students could have done it," Lucy insisted. "You don't know what relation they have with the press."
"Didn't you say Fairy Tail was your home, or something like that?" Erza said without whispering. "I am really feeling the love."
"About that, I don't think I meant this school. When I had the dream, I was wearing a pink, Western, floor-length ball gown I haven't seen in modern stores," Lucy said, trying to avoid anything related to the l-word.
"Do you mean like a Western Victorian Era dress?" Juvia asked. "Juvia saw dresses from those time periods before, and they did not look very comfortable."
"No," Lucy said, making a face. "I don't think so. I can't really say what time period it might be from, but it looked perfect for a fancy, old-fashioned party. It wasn't a traditional one, either."
"But getting off the dress," Erza said, waving her hand in the air, "how did you feel after dreaming that you loved Natsu? Are you starting to see him in a new light?"
"Shouldn't you guys get going now?" Lucy asked, plainly avoiding Erza's question. "Capri will be here soon."
"Erza, she didn't deny it!"
"Just because I don't deny it out loud doesn't mean I'm not denying it, Levy," Lucy said to her friend with mock-anger. "I thought you were smart."
"Juvia thinks Natsu is not so bad," Juvia said thoughtfully. "Juvia already loves her Gray-sama, she already knows Gajeel from Phantom Lord, and Jellal is rarely ever around, so that just leaves Natsu. He may be a little oblivious sometimes, but Juvia does not think it will be bad for them and us to be together."
"That's true," Erza added. "I have Jellal, Levy has Gajeel, Juvia will try to have Gray, and that leaves Lucy and Natsu! That's perfect."
"Try to have?"
"Speaking of," Lucy said loudly, cutting off Juvia's sulking, "how did you and Jellal meet, Erza?" She tried to steer the attention away from her and Dragneel, and although Erza knew what she was trying, she still answered.
"Before I attended Fairy Tail Low, I attended another school," Erza began as Lucy's friends ended up waiting for Capri with Lucy. "The Tower of Heaven."
Juvia frowned. "The Tower of Heaven?" she repeated. "Juvia does not remember hearing about that place. Where is it?"
"It was in a different city, but it got shut down when I was eleven. It's why my birthgiver moved us here and I attended Fairy Tail Low."
"Oh yeah, I remember when we first saw you," Levy said. "You were sitting alone and glaring at everybody who went twenty feet within you."
"Hold on, we're getting off topic; I want to know how Erza knew Jellal," Lucy interrupted as Levy got to experience one of Erza's death glares again.
"Jellal was my first friend," Erza said pleasantly, breaking the glare immediately. "Before I went to the Tower, I wasn't allowed to go outside to meet others, so my first friends were from the school.
"The first time I met Jellal, he commented on my hair, talking about how red it was. When I told him my last name was Scarlet, he laughed and said it suited me. He joked that he probably would've given me that name, if he had the chance."
"How would he have that chance?" Lucy and Levy asked at the same time. However, a glare from Erza made them shut their mouths without further comment.
"My other friends were Simon, Wally, and Millianna," Erza continued with her usual poker face. "The five of us always stuck together, since the school wasn't as great as it sounded like."
Before Lucy could ask what she meant, a car suddenly pulled up next to the group.
"I'm sorry I'm late, Miss Lucy," the driver of the car said after he scrolled the window down. "The reporters surrounded almost the entire perimeter in the block across, and it took me a while to find an opening. Ah, hello, Miss Erza, Miss Levy, and Miss Juvia," Capri greeted Lucy's friends when he saw them. "Thank you for waiting with her. Please allow me to give you all a ride home."
"Thanks!" Erza, Levy, and Juvia quickly dove into the backseat of Capri's car.
"What are you waiting for?" Erza asked Lucy through the open window in the passenger seat. "Get in, we're not done talking."
"You three just waited with me to have a ride home, didn't you?" Lucy asked playfully as she finally got in. "This is just for today."
"We didn't come in here to schedule our ride appointments," Erza said. "I've said my share, now it's your turn. How are things with you and Natsu?"
Lucy gave her friends a look through the rear view mirror. "I'm going to make Capri stop this car right now and kick you three out."
"No you won't," Levy giggled. "Because deep inside, you do want to talk about him with us."
"Should Juvia give Lucy tips?" Juvia suggested. "Juvia is very close in obtaining her Gray-sama's heart. Juvia can help you obtain Natsu's heart."
"I am also sure Scor can give you some tips on how he and Aq--"
"Not you too, Capri!" Lucy groaned. "Don't listen to these three dumbasses," she said. "Just drive. At the maximum speed limit, if possible. The faster they get out of here, the better."
"Okay, Lucy," Levy said with an exaggerated sigh. "We won't make you talk about you and Natsu."
Lucy sighed in relief. There was nobody like Levy. "Thank you --"
"We'll just talk about you two, for you. So, Juvia, what is your opinion on the couple?"
"Wait, what?"
"Juvia thinks Lucy and Natsu will look very good, together," Juvia answered honestly, avoiding Lucy's glare. "They look like they will complement each other greatly."
"I concur," Erza said. "I can picture those two going off on a lot of adventures together. I suspect Lucy will usually be getting her ass saved by Natsu the majority of the time. . . ."
"Hey, I'm strong too!" Lucy defended herself. "I don't need a Dragneel to come and save me, or whatever. I bet I could even beat a demon."
"Miss Lucy, we have arrived at Miss Levy's home," Capri said before anybody could respond to Lucy's outburst.
"Thank you, Capri. Oh, I should've sat on the outside." Lucy watched as Levy struggled to cross over Juvia's legs.
"You know, you could've just asked Juvia to get out, and then get back in, right?" Lucy asked as soon as Levy freed herself from the tangled mess in the backseat.
Levy just blinked at Lucy for a few seconds before shaking her head and waking to her front door.
"Wonder why she's so eager to go home," Lucy said in a teasing tone as Levy waved at them before eyeing her home.
"Levy could be waiting for Gajeel to text her back," Juvia said as she stared at her own phone. "In fact, Juvia also texted her Gray-sama, but he must not have seen it yet."
"She only seemed pretty excited about what Ms. Vermillion was talking about in deten--" Erza stopped, looking at Capri with a wary expression.
"He's good, I told him the truth already," Lucy assured her friend, who nodded.
"--tion, the researching and stuff," Erza finished. "Maybe she's doing that."
"Well, Levy is the smartest out of us four," Lucy reminded them. "Doesn't she do your homework for you sometimes, Erza?"
"Just for Honors English," the senior told her. "And it's 'cause of Levy in junior year that got me to Honors."
"Levy is lucky to be so smart," Juvia sighed. "Juvia wishes she was good at something, too."
Lucy turned around to stare at her glum friend. "Aren't you captain of the Swim Team?"
Juvia sighed again. "Juvia joined the Swim Team because she thought Gray-sama would like seeing her in a swimsuit, but Juvia has never seen him near the pool. When Juvia was about to quit, the swimming coach made her team captain."
"You know," Erza said, "Jellal told me Gray was thinking about applying for RBU in twelfth grade. I'm pretty sure they give out swim scholarships."
Hearts could then be seen in Juvia's eyes, and Erza had to literally push her out of the car when Capri arrived at Juvia's house.
"I wonder if she'll ever give up on Gray," Lucy remarked as Capri headed for Erza's house.
"I doubt it," Erza said. "She already confessed to him."
"She did?" Lucy spun around to face Erza. "When? What happened?"
Erza frowned as she tried to remember. "I think it was a few weeks ago, right before the spring break. He turned her down, but Juvia only responded by saying she would work even harder to obtain his love, or something like that."
"Well, that's Juvia for you, I suppose." Lucy turned back to the front, leaving her head against the head rest.
"What, jealous that you can't work up the courage to confess to Natsu like Juvia did to Gray?"
"So, Capri, how had your day been?" Lucy asked the driver, trying not to look at her friend's reflection in the mirror. "Read or written any good poems, lately?"
"Unfortunately, I hadn't got the time to do so," Capri answered seriously. "We've been pretty busy, preparing for the new recruit."
"Another one?" Lucy asked, forgetting Erza completely for a moment. "Since when?"
"After the incident with the reporters this morning, your father thought it would be best for you to have a personal maid. She will probably be arriving tomorrow."
"Wow, it must suck to have a babysitter."
Lucy jumped back when she saw Erza's face sticking out between her and Capri's seats.
"Yeah, I'm still here, don't be too disappointed," Erza said flatly at Lucy's expression. "But back to what I was saying, how does it feel to have a babysitter?" she asked Lucy.
"I wouldn't know. I won't have a babysitter, I'll have a maid. She'll be more like a, um, companion, or something," Lucy said lamely.
Erza only smirked at her misery, causing Lucy to glare at her. However, Erza glared back, and Lucy was forced to retreat.
"Miss Erza, we're here."
"Thanks, Capri. See you Monday, Lucy." Erza hopped out of the car with a bright smile on her face, all traces of a glare gone.
"So, tell me more about this new recruit," Lucy told Capri as she waved to Erza. "You said she's coming tomorrow? She must be expensive is she's coming that quickly on such short notice."
"I believe Mr. Heartfilia said she was recommended by the old headmaster of our school, Celestial High. She also probably won't be older than 20."
"Probably," Lucy repeated. "But anyways, why are all of you coming from that school? First Cancer, then you, then Scor, and now this maid. I bet I'll have the headmaster coming to me, pretty soon."
"I'll have to take a detour here, Miss Lucy," Capri said. "The reporters are still waiting a block away from us."
Lucy looked up just as Capri turned left, and sure enough, a huge crowd was gathered.
"Ugh, the press better find something new to gossip about by tomorrow," Lucy groaned.
"Don't worry, we're almost there n-- I haven't seen that car before. . . ." Capri cut himself off as he parked next to an unfamiliar car. "Perhaps the new recruit has arrived already."
"I'm loving this maid already," Lucy said sarcastically as she got out of the car. "I can already imagine the wonderful conversations we'll have with each other."
Lucy walked into the house, where she saw her father talking to someone with short pink hair and a complete maid outfit.
"Oh, Lucy, you've finally arrived," her father said, looking up to face his daughter, "but we'll talk about that later. I assume Capri has told you about your new maid? She was scheduled to come tomorrow, but a fortunate turn of events allowed her to come in just a few hours."
"Yeah, sure." Lucy put on her fake smile and stood up straighter when her father "subtly" glared at her. "Let's see my new best friend."
"It is a pleasure to be able to work with you, princess," the maid said as she turned around, bowing.
Lucy couldn't help but feel her ego inflate by the tiniest amount. She liked the way the new maid referred to her as "Princess." For some reason, the tern didn't seem uncomfortable when the maid referred to her as so.
The maid lifted her head and made eye contact with Lucy. Her mouth moved, but Lucy didn't hear anything except for two sentences.
The first was very short and said by the same maid in front of her, but she was in a dirty street, and she had broken handcuffs on her wrists. "Punishment time, Princess?"
The second sentence was a little longer, and was said by her father in the house. "Meet Vera, your new maid, starting today."
For some reason, Lucy couldn't help but feel as if she had seen Vera from somewhere. She just couldn't remember. However, another glare from her father made Lucy remember to respond to her new maid.
"Um, I look forward to working with you, Virgo."
A/N:
This chapter was 95% a filler, and I ended up adding the last 5% because I couldn't stand Lucy not having Virgo around her any more. I sort of have writer's block, so bear with me please!
And thanks to @23lagunasn for voting and telling me to update because I have never been told that before.
